Wellington is a step closer to getting more cycleways.
City councillors have agreed to start consultation on a plan to build 147 kilometres new cycleways over the next decade.
Councillor Iona Pannett says getting to this stage is exciting.
Pannett says it's the first time they've made a real commitment to increasing cycleways.
But Councillor Simon Woolf was one of just two who voted against it.
He told Nick Mills it was not an easy decision to make and there needs to be a balance between car parks and cycleways.
But Woolf says if the public are against the plan they should act.
Councillor Tamatha Paul, who is for the plan, did not respond to Wellington Morning's interview request.
