Speaker 1 (00:00):
Well, we have a special guest calling in this morning
on I tell you what, Chris Carter. Oh man, it's official.
It's Chris Carter calling in. I'm so serious.

Speaker 2 (00:11):
I feel like I need to be a little bit
fancy going.

Speaker 1 (00:13):
To say you like that in the huddle. Hey, Chris
Carter here, throw it to me. The hell. Don't throw
it to Moss. Throw it to me. Come on, don't
throw it to the mob. Hey, can I ask? Uh?
Where are you? By the way, not that I'm not
getting weird or anything. I'm not gonnak you. I'm not
going to ask you what you're wearing. I mean, maybe

(00:33):
I will, but he's not like a stalker or no, Well,
a little where are you?

Speaker 3 (00:36):
I'm in South Florida, both in Florida.

Speaker 1 (00:39):
Nice.

Speaker 3 (00:40):
I got on Lululemon and j my normal outfit.

Speaker 1 (00:43):
That's my uniforms Jays which ones?

Speaker 3 (00:46):
Uh the three? Okay?

Speaker 1 (00:52):
Hello threes?

Speaker 2 (00:53):
Very fancy.

Speaker 1 (00:54):
I'm eleven bread guy. So Chris, you're gonna be uh,
you're doing a deal with Salvation Army to a bunch
of people already know this about you, but a whole
bunch of people don't. What is your motivation for this
you're getting going to be here for the Salvation Army
here in Minnesota. What can you just kind of give
us a little fill of what you're doing.

Speaker 3 (01:09):
Well. The number one thing the people in the Twin
Cities that they need to understand is when I came
to the Twin Cities, my life was a mess. And
the people in the Twin Cities and the services of
the Twin Cities, especially when you're dealing with alcoholism and
substance abuse, the services and how they've done it there
for a long long time. They've helped out a lot

(01:30):
of people. And then as a youth in Ohio, my
mom and my family, my mom had seven kids before
the age of twenty five, so I was a Salvation
Army kid. We got groceries from there, we got other services,
counseling from the local affiliate there. So they were there
for my family before I was a Hall of Famer.

(01:52):
So now when I had the opportunity to be able
to part with them in the Twin Cities areas and
now with the food drive, knowing that what a stortage
of food that we have. So I've helped out with homelessness,
I've helped out with inequities there. And then now we're
helping with the food drive because one in five people
in Minnesota they're going to have problems as far as

(02:14):
providing food for their family, and people are shocked by that.
Any given night, ten to fifteen thousand people in Minneapolis
will be homeless. So those are the things that I
still try to fight twenty years after my retirement, giving
back to the great state that gave to me and
really gave me an opportunity to really do something different

(02:34):
with my life.

Speaker 1 (02:35):
Has it been twenty years? Has it been that long?

Speaker 3 (02:37):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (02:38):
Really? Oh my gosh, dude, I thought it's like seven
Has it been twenty years? Holy crap, man, time is fleeting.
It just seems like I saw you yesterday pointing to
God in the end zone, going hey man, thanks for
this text. You know that's so crazy. Twenty years I

(03:00):
feel so freaking Oh.

Speaker 3 (03:03):
My prayer for my touchdown was very very short. I
used to be like, thank you God, and then I'll
get up to the defensive back fool, you can't cover me.

Speaker 1 (03:11):
Then he asked for forgiveness letter. Sorry about that guy, but
I just had it in me. I'm with you one
hundred percent. You're wear the Cross on your sleeve, brother,
and I think that is really really cool. That's that's
one reason. That's probably the biggest reason why I like you.
Outside of your playing and everything, it's just, you know,
Salvationnari is tied into Christ and that's I wish everybody
kind of follow that path a little bit more, but

(03:32):
we're working on it. Right.

Speaker 3 (03:34):
When you've been blessed, you should be able to give back.
And I'm just so fortunate not only to play for
an organization like the Vikings, but the community there in
the Twin Cities is very, very different, and they really
embraced me in a great way, embraced everything that I
was going through. And all I remember was them just
cheering for me on the field and off the field

(03:54):
to be at my absolute best. So I'm just trying
to help people. I'm trying to help other Chris Carters,
trying to help other mothers that were like my mom,
and trying to give them a sympse of hope.

Speaker 2 (04:03):
It's got to be really rewarding to be able to
do that. I mean, what is that like to be
able to come up here and know that you're making
a difference in the community that was so that loves
you so much.

Speaker 3 (04:15):
I'm blown away just by my whole life, by the
way it's evolved. I'm so flattered that companies still want
to partner with me long after I played the game.
And I do believe it's always the right time to
do the right thing. So when Salvation Army partnered partnered
with me, when the Vikings have approached me about doing

(04:36):
different things, I've always been yes, let's go ahead and
do that. Let's do it at a level of excellence
that people would be proud of. So I'm very, very
fortunate that people still believe in me and in my brand.

Speaker 1 (04:49):
So before Sam gets us back on track here for
a second, I want to sidetrack. What what corner do
you miss the most in the league?

Speaker 3 (04:58):
The Packers and Bears and Lions, it didn't matter. I
wouldn't have a Hall of Fame career without them.

Speaker 1 (05:07):
That's awesome. So not not Dion Sanders, not Deon Sanders.

Speaker 3 (05:11):
But no, no, you're not getting in the Hall of
Fame off of Dion. Yeah, but no, don't bring that up.

Speaker 1 (05:19):
But Doug Evans and Mike McKenzie and those guys, right,
those guys, they're the they're the ones that get you
in the Hall of Fame.

Speaker 3 (05:25):
Oh that's the guy that Green Bay drafted after we
after we.

Speaker 1 (05:29):
Got drafted most Yeah, yeah, how that works out.

Speaker 3 (05:32):
If the day I'm snatching by his hair and drag.

Speaker 2 (05:35):
Him somewhere right, Oh my gosh, Chris, what not to
totally digress from that, Uh, what are the ways that
people can get involved? If they're hearing you talk about
this right now and they want to help the Salvation
Army too, how do they get involved in this?

Speaker 1 (05:51):
Yeah? Not dragging people by the hair, Salvation Yeah, sorry,
just to be clear.

Speaker 3 (05:57):
Well, Salvation Army is collecting non personable food for Word
twenty eighth to March to twenty six culminating with a
final drop off collection at Cara Leven TV on the
afternoon of March to twenty sixth. So yes, there's fifty
spots around the metro locations including Sumberland, Blaze, Credit Unions,
Warner Selling stores and all Salvation Army family stores. So

(06:19):
if you want to help us out nonperishable items, anybody
can make a contribution. So go out, buy something, look
in your coboard, grab something, put it in the bag.
Come down to one of the locations that I mentioned,
and you can help out people in the twin cities
that need your help.

Speaker 2 (06:35):
Chris. So, the last day of the drive is Wednesday,
because you mentioned it's March twenty sixth, and I understand
or I heard that you've got something special planned for
that final day.

Speaker 3 (06:44):
I'm going to be in town, so I'll be doing
our messages around I'll be on CARO eleven, but I'll
be in town for the event. Also, I just think
at this stage of my life to be able to
make a contribution bill help people out. So anything I
can do from a notoriety standpoint, and besides me being there,
you can help out. Twenty five dollars will feed a

(07:06):
hungry family of three for a week. Fifty dollars will
nearly provide one hundred and fifty pounds of food for
the Salvation Army for our foods shelves. One hundred dollars
donation will provide a meal for one hundred and eighty
hungry family. So there's a lot of ways that you
can make a contribution. But if you believe in Chris Carter,
you believe in doing well, it's always the right time

(07:27):
to do the right thing. Please help us out.

Speaker 1 (07:29):
So before we let you go, dude, it we never
met face to face. I'm about two feet shorter, but
my name, my name is Chris Carr. And when I
started at Capital two, you were just kind of heading
into your prime. And it was so depressing because everywhere
I went, people heard meet they heard meet Chris Carr, right,
or they'd listen. I'd say, hey, come meet me, and
they hear Chris Carter. I would show up, they'd expect you,

(07:52):
and it was so depressed. It's like, no, it's I'm
Chris Carr. I just started here. It's not Carter. That's
my real name. That's who I am. I can't change it.
They always thought meet Chris Carter. That's what they heard. Hey,
Chris Carter's gonna be at Cub Foods, Chris Carter's gonna
be at Rainbow Foods. No, it's Chris Carr. It's me.
And I had to explained to everybody's like, no, no,
you're not meant a football player. They just turned around

(08:12):
to your heart. Whatever.

Speaker 3 (08:16):
Well, I used to have a colleague at ESPN. His
name was Chris Cotter, and he was doing a radio
show one afternoon I'm driving down ninety five in South Florida,
and he tells the story like that to the audience,
and he was very upset. I can't believe it's all
these people are calling and thinking I'm Chris Carter when
the getting a lot of this mail and everything. Like,

(08:38):
he was really really upset. I called in. It's like, hey,
how you doing. I got a question for Chris Carter.
From Chris Carter. He's like, what's going on? I was like, listen,
your mama could have named you Hannibal Lecter, Jeffrey Dahmer,

(08:59):
hey man, slander in my name.

Speaker 1 (09:05):
That's awesome, dude, it's great. It's great. Uh, it's great
hearing your voice. And it's great to know that you're
going to be back here. And thanks for doing what
you're doing and using your gifts in the right way
and and representing for salvation Ari. Chris, it's a pleasure
talking to you. Thank you. We'll see you here in
the next few days.

Speaker 3 (09:21):
No, thank you, guys, God bless you go vite.

Speaker 1 (09:24):
