Speaker 2 (00:10):
Their finals weekend is here five past seven, kickoff tomorrow night.
Out of the Garden of Eden, Eden Park. Joining us
on the CSB this morning, our Super Rugby Final panel.
The Voice of the Blues, Voice of New Zealand Rugby
for gold Sport, Elliott Smith, Morning, Elliott, get ABK and
welcoming along. Out of the tron out of the white
cut door. The voice of the Chiefs, Graham, Mintymad Morning, Mintee.

Speaker 3 (00:32):
Year Morning, Morning BK. This is the winning region just
living you know, well.

Speaker 2 (00:36):
It's saying that on the text at the moment, but
only by a couple of votes. But we'll get to
that shortly. So Elliott, first up, before round one, we
got all of the Gold Sport commentators on the show
and asked what a successful season looked like for their teams,
and we asked you what a successful season would look
like for the Blues and this was your answer.

Speaker 1 (00:56):
I think the success for the Blues has to be
giving to the final and tinos will happened up to
eighty minutes there. But after a couple of seasons where
they had strong groups and strong coaches together, they simply
didn't lift the silwhere.

Speaker 2 (01:12):
All right, So there we go pretty much bang on Elliott,
They've got to the final. What will the Blues need
to do to make sure they're lifting some silverware come
Saturday night.

Speaker 4 (01:20):
Well, they're going to find that winning mentality to dig
deep and deliver in those final moments. And I think
this is where both teams have come unstruck. The Chiefs
last year in the final and Mint he can talk
to that in a moment. But the Blues in twenty
twenty two against the Crusaders simply didn't have another leave
it to pull, another level to go to in that
decided against the Crusaders that were well beaten at Eden

(01:43):
Park and didn't realize what Grand Final rugby was all about.
Now appeared last year like they might have fixed that,
but they went down to christ Church and were again
toweled by the Crusaders. Now the big bad wolf for
the Crusaders not there this year, obviously, But have they
learned those leads about what you need to do in
finals footy? Different coach this year and Vancott a lot

(02:04):
more Ford focused than the Blues have probably ever been.
If they keep using their Ford strength and using that
as a weapon, that lays a bit of a platform
for the likes of Caleb Clark Mark Kalia to run
off and use. But it's very much been a Ford's
oriented Blues so far this year, and I don't expect
that to change in the final tomorrow night.

Speaker 2 (02:24):
Alrighty Elliott, So Minty your answer way back in February
on what a successful season looked like for the Chiefs,
and here it.

Speaker 3 (02:32):
Is, BK. I think we had to lose one to
win one, and the Chiefs are still smarting from the
Crusaders dipping up here last year and beating us by
five and basically got the same nucleus of players. I
know we've lost Brady Retellic, we lost bread Weber, Sam Kane.
I think that's going to be our biggest biggest problem
with someone to replace Sam Kine. Here is just imments

(02:52):
on defense.

Speaker 2 (02:54):
So there we are are experts showing why they're experts.
So Minty, what are the Chiefs need to do to
make sure that they're lifting that trophy?

Speaker 3 (03:03):
To be honest? A month ago, BK. I wasn't sure
they could. In the last two games, and especially the
Hurricanes last week, the front five stood up and they
actually battled and that gave us good pill to play speedball.
I think what's going to happen is Auckland are going
to try and take on the Cannoby rage of slowing
thing down, and the Chiefs are want to go fast,

(03:23):
so I think it's going to be a blinder. I
think they're playing. I think they're playing porks and swords
with Patrick Tilpolluti with a cook mee just to try
and thrown's trying to throw and make Clayton McMillan off
the path. But Clayton's cleverer than that. There's ducks and
drakes and finals. But for me, I think McKenzie Ratima
is the key. They've got Stevenson back. Things are starting

(03:46):
to fire and crack a little bit. But yeah, for me,
Simmer Penny Fee now I least forward Luke Jacobson and
Wallace Atiti. I'm still at the ouda oft New Zealand
doesn't have a real seven and we haven't placed them
cane anywhere, so that might be our Achilles heel Y.

Speaker 2 (04:00):
Certainly Clayton mcmillans, a whilely old fox, so Elliott who
would be the key players for the Blues of this
plays well and it goes a long way towards winning
the game for them.

Speaker 4 (04:10):
Well, I think the key player has meant he mentioned
there is Patrick Toypiloto, assuming he plays now. He's been
named in vern Coottessy used today that he's you know,
as good a chance of being ruled out as any
of the other twenty two players. You know, could be
you know, rollin ankle or whatever it might be. But
Vncotta's adamant he's playing, and if he is, I think
he's a key player for them. He's been there's been

(04:31):
a challenge laid down. I think the locks the season
with the all Blacks that have departed in retallic and
white lock. Since he came back from a draw injury
earlier in the year, he has been superb for the Blues,
both at line at time in the tights. His carries
have been immense right through the season and he's an extremely,
extremely good leader. That's why he's got the captaincy back
from Dalton Papa Lett who held it for a couple

(04:52):
of years while to Plota was injured and also away
on sabbatical. So I think if Patrick Taupolotu has a
good game for the Blues, they'll come out Trump's. Obviously
they've got a lot of other quality players across the park.
But the way that Patrick Typlot has played this year
when he's on, the Blues tend to be on.

Speaker 2 (05:10):
And MINTI for the Chiefs. You know, Damien McKenzie is
having probably his best season so far. Is he the
one to watch?

Speaker 3 (05:17):
Yeah? Look, they run a lot of pivot plays off
him and he sits deep in the park and he
opens up space. I think so. But the thing I
think to watch is the work that Ratha Ratham is
now doing with Wallace Atiti. I'm worried that if Ben
that make with the blue sunglasses on up there does
get Patrick to a pollute you on the field because

(05:40):
he changes the dynamics of the whole Auckland forward pack.
But yeah, I'm looking nineteen they're going to where they are.
Just hope he doesn't get hit. McKenzie doesn't get hit
too late too often, you know, they seem to target
his ribs for no reason. Then the seven penny female
has probably got the best rib shaking tackle in New
Zealand right now, So look out Blues.

Speaker 2 (06:00):
All right, okay, I appreciate you comment.

Speaker 4 (06:01):
Boys.

Speaker 2 (06:02):
Just before I let you go first, all black squad
gets named in the Razor Robinson era on Monday afternoon.
So Elliott, who are you picking for a smoky Smoky Well?

Speaker 4 (06:12):
I think Sam Dowry for the Blues looks like a
real player that's come on this year. And we thought
at the start of the week there might be two
locking spots of potential debutantes. Now it seems with Patrick
Patrick to Pilotti being fit, there's only one. I'd give
it to Sam Dowry. I think he's been excellent this season,
excellent the type as Patrick Toy Pilotto. It seemed to
have really learned under Patrick Toy Pilot his wings.

Speaker 2 (06:35):
So he's my smoky nice one and Minty you're smoky Well.

Speaker 3 (06:40):
We do with a competition at the moment. Now he's
hire at different ends of the game. I'm looking for
a Teny ninus A turty. I think in Many Noada
the two wings will get Mack and Noada has been
there before and slipped out of the World Cup. But
I'm picking one of those two because they are electric.

Speaker 2 (06:57):
All right, we're talking about electric. It's going to be
an elect game. Tomorrow night we'll have a commentary on
gold Sport. Boys. Thanks for joining us, mate, Joy.

Speaker 3 (07:04):
Yeah, take your blue shunglasses off, Elliott, they're gone.

Speaker 4 (07:06):
Cheers team.

Speaker 2 (07:09):
Go. Elliott Smith and Mindy Me joining us here on
gold Sport and the Country Sport Breakfast. There used to
be the eyepatch from the Crusaders, but they're not there.
