Speaker 1 (00:00):
The cricket field to the cow shed.

Speaker 2 (00:02):
It's the country Sport Breakfast with Brian Kelly on gold Sport.
I mean looking forward to going stateside and chatting with
our US correspondent Amy Taylor out of Washington, DC, the
political capital of the US survey. And I guess the

(00:24):
dust still hasn't settled on that train wreck of a
debate the other day.

Speaker 1 (00:31):
Good morning, I was wonderful you were going to want
to talk about today.

Speaker 2 (00:34):
Yeah, Producer Mark said, We've just got to talk about
the debate. I mean it was I felt embarrassing for
your country. The whole thing, both candidates embarrassing.

Speaker 1 (00:44):
It was. It was embarrassing for two separate reasons, right,
I mean, let's start with President Biden. I think the
fact that anybody who's leading a country to show up
and perform arm as poorly as President Biden did is
just shocking, really right. He was tired, he was confused,

(01:06):
he had a hard time stringing thoughts together. It's just
not what you want for the leader of the free world.
It was. It was embarrassing and distressing, and it was painful,
just painful to watch. And this is a man who's
given you know, decades of service to the country and

(01:27):
maybe you know, too many years of service at this point.
Maybe it's it's you know, so too much.

Speaker 2 (01:33):
I mean, what are your friends in the neighborhood and
friends that you associate with, What if they see it
after it?

Speaker 1 (01:39):
Oh, you know, my Facebook feed has has had a
whole variety of things, you know, people, There's been some
debate about is it really early stage dementia. Was he
just having an off night? You know, he needs to
step down. I mean, generally speaking, there is there is
concern that he, you know, he's not gonna win. A

(02:02):
lot of people were saying, oh, we were watching our
you know, RFK Junior and you know, he's really the guy. Uh,
you know, he's really the guy, and we want to
vote for him. But voting for him is really problematic
because a third party candidate just you know, dilutes the
pool and is just causes all sorts of problems. But
there is actually among the Democratic Party. Jamie Raskin, who's

(02:28):
a leader, a Democratic leader from Maryland. Actually, remarkably, I've
known him since he was you know, eight or ten
or something. He was good, He's good friends with my brother.
He came out over the weekend, was saying that the
party is having very serious conversations about at every level
of the of the party about what's going to happen

(02:50):
and what should be done. Biden will be the keynote
at the Democratic Party, but they I think they're talking about,
you know, what's going to happen now By would have
to be the one to step down. I don't think
that they can force him to step down. He has
to make that decision. He was at Camp David over
the weekend with the family and as it's reported, the

(03:13):
family is encouraging him to stay in his son, who
he listens to whether or not he's sure or not,
but he listens to his son, his wife, Jill, doctor Jill.
But they're you know, as far as who could take
over the Rumorville has Vice President Harris of course is
I think legally probably the next in line or the easiest,

(03:37):
but she's kind of been kept in the closet for
I don't know why, but she's not done very well.
Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer very popular with a lot of Dems.
California Governor Gavin Newsom, you know, really has a great
reputation with the Democrats, and there's been some others. Hakeem
Jeffries has been bandied about as well, but I think

(03:58):
they want to keep him where he is because he's
very effective. So I don't know. I mean, it's really
going to start with Biden. But he was at this rally.
I think you saw the rally in North Carolina.

Speaker 2 (04:09):
Yeah, Diapter something, Yeah, yeah.

Speaker 1 (04:11):
It was four days so the debate was on Tuesday,
the rally was on Friday. I didn't see it live.
I watched it. I watched it later. I mean, he
was the Biden of old versus old Biden. He was dynamic,
he was charming, he was funny. He was all the
things that you would want and that you really wanted

(04:32):
to show up on Tuesday at the debate.

Speaker 2 (04:34):
And then on then on the other side of the argument,
you had his opponent forty five, you know, Donald Trump.
He didn't win too many friends or influence people, did
he in that debate?

Speaker 1 (04:45):
Well? Yeah, I mean he was classic Trump, right, he was.
He he was false claims. We can't say liar, liar
pants on fire technically because that's not what you say
in these circles, but they ca false claims. Various outlets
counted the number and did fact checks. Later, CNN said

(05:07):
they weren't going to fact check on air that you know,
the moderators, that was not their role. The moderators did
push them hard when he didn't answer a question. There
were a couple that they came back to. But CNN
counted I think at least thirty false claims by Trump,
and Biden did have nine that you know, he wasn't

(05:28):
wasn't accurate about. But you know, it really wasn't a debate.
BK was two men standing up there, you know, winging
about the other. You know, Biden really fell short of
being able to come back to, you know, shoot back
at at Trump with facts and figures, which is what
you're supposed to. It wasn't in debate club, I got
to tell you. But my understanding is, to you know,

(05:50):
effectively debate, you have to counter with facts and figures
and statements. Right he just said, oh he's lying. Yeah,
well that's not very effective.

Speaker 2 (05:59):
What's going to be an interesting countdown to the elections
in November, and I guess we're going to have to
watch the space. I know you could talk and we
could talk for ages about it. But I just wanted
to get the state of the nation from you, Amy,
So it's been great to catch up and we'll do
it next week.

Speaker 1 (06:15):
Thanks Meky, have a good one.

Speaker 2 (06:16):
