Speaker 1 (00:00):
Seventy minutes past seven o'clock on the Country Sport previously
Talk Darts there with the New Zealand Darts Masters on
in the weekend, joining us they how to discuss it
and tell us what happened? Has been Rob, good morning, Ben?
Speaker 2 (00:11):
Well, how are we very well?
Speaker 1 (00:14):
I saw the event. I didn't follow it a lot,
but I saw the final on the news last night.
It looked like again another wonderful weekend. When it comes
to being spectators watching.
Speaker 2 (00:23):
Yeah, and I think New Zealand does it self proud
by the turnout and and the bringliness of the crowded.
The crowd was behind both players and it was that
he was a pretty good final two.
Speaker 1 (00:34):
Yeah, tell us about the final.
Speaker 2 (00:36):
Yeah, so it was damn the hitter from news half
of Australia. But you know he's a multi blood line
and he played low countries, the world number one in
the current World champions Day. Yeah. We had a lot
on on on the title here and I'm lucky it's
for them when he lost to Luke who just put
my way at this classic. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (00:54):
And when it comes to our space form and the players,
you know, when it comes to upsets during round robin
play What what happened? Who got knocked out? That we
thought might have gone a bit longer.
Speaker 2 (01:03):
I think everybody, you know, everybody loves a loose little movement.
He was up six two over Luke Humphrey's in the
semis and Humphreys Pauls together and I didn't give him
a shot of the double the third leg. So that
was probably the biggest upset. The Kiwis not so much.
We were in most of our matches. I hope I
(01:25):
who have been the closest. We went to a last
weete decider, but Rob Rob Cross pepped them at the end. There.
Speaker 1 (01:30):
Tell us about the experience there, I mean you can
see it obviously, you know it started back and over
the UK and it became a you know, it's become
an I suppose entertainment package. But what's the next you'd
like being there alive?
Speaker 2 (01:43):
Yeah, something different, just a atmosphere and then for a
que for the Kiwi boys, maybe a home crowd. It's
totally different to overseas well. You know, you just think
get the crowd support over there, but on this side
and like we get three to four thousand people watching
again with Dash is crazy and everyone's right behind it
and a few chances there and when you know, people
(02:07):
were screaming for you. They had a bit nerve wrecking,
but so enjoyable, so fun and so much fun. And yeah,
I think everybody had a good time the world to go.
Speaker 1 (02:16):
Yeah, absolutely one thing. It is it like a comp
here there whining people up or helping people get going,
or is it actually just the crowd take take over
the off their own sort of organic nature.
Speaker 2 (02:29):
Yeah, that's yeah. I think it's more on the crowd.
Just feel your you know, the iconic one Ady gets
get the crowd going up and that they have a
martial ceremonies on McDonald who comes out pretty rout and
comes out and just you know, entertains the crowd and
tells them that, you know, four hundred million people are watching.
So if you get on TV, get it all out
(02:50):
and stuff. That's kind of that's that's cool. It's like
the sevens, but on a lower scale in the crowd
and being in a fight arena makes three thousand people
sell like ten thousand.
Speaker 1 (03:03):
It looks great from the TV. And what about the
standing I suppose for this event from around the world
and the way the players are you know, achieving what
they think. It's like, how does it stand now on
the world stage?
Speaker 2 (03:16):
What do you mean by that great?
Speaker 1 (03:17):
What I mean like, well, you know we're when it
comes to I suppose you know, getting the top Dark
players here, you know, when they come to the New
Zealand Masters. Is it up up there now when it
comes to recognition of being a really good event to come.
Speaker 2 (03:27):
To, Yeah, definitely. I think this is the first year
it wasn't sold out on both dams typically, so I
think the second that was stolen out. And we also
like have a reputation of being the most competitive on
the qualifying side, that the locals versus the professionals. So
(03:48):
both days are entertaining and yeah, i'd say I'd say
a new bloody three percenter of the room. As Dark
fans in the country are, they're quite loyal and they
follow everything. So I think we did ourselves proud by
the turnout and we were very lucky at PDC. I
brought over there very big, so everyone was well entertay.
Speaker 1 (04:08):
Yeah, we need these sort of events them from a
country point of view, being that we need to be
showing they were and entertainment people got to get on
a plane and travel a long way, so we need
to make sure we do it well.
Speaker 2 (04:18):
Yeah, and I think that's why they keep coming back.
Not only do we have a good crowd of big crowd,
but a respectful crowd that respects both players on the
stage and some places I like that they're whistle and
carrying on, but over here that the crowd just loves
to watch good nuts and lets the feedback from the
players backstage anyway that they love coming down here and
they they enjoy playing in front of this crowd.
Speaker 1 (04:40):
Excellent. It's been a big weekend. You appreciate you coming
up nice and early this morning. Ben, You have a
great day.
Speaker 2 (04:45):
You two great chance.
Speaker 1 (04:47):
Yeah, there we go. Yep, it's a big weekend. But
look Humphreys got up and won the finals.
