Speaker 1 (00:00):
Well, great news on the nipball front. Tima Para and Bailey,
the legend of the Silver Ferns is coming back to
New Zealand and giving us some good news on the
netball front.

Speaker 2 (00:07):
We're joined by Tima Parra. Now, good morning, how are you?

Speaker 3 (00:10):
Good morning? I'm good. Thank you? How are you?

Speaker 1 (00:13):
I'm good and I'm even better to know that you're
coming back home. It's a tough time I think in
some ways for netble New Zealand and I suppose our landscape.
So it's great news to have you coming back to
this side of the shores and coaching. So congratulations on
the appointment, but thanks for coming back.

Speaker 3 (00:28):
Oh, thank you so much. I'm really excited, especially kind
of going back to where I grew up in chart Baukland,
So I'm really excited about the challenge.

Speaker 1 (00:40):
Yeah, it is a challenge and we'll get into that.
But first of all, you know how things have been
going over there in Australia and you've been coaching over there.

Speaker 2 (00:46):
Have you enjoyed it and what have you learned?

Speaker 3 (00:49):
Yeah, it's been awesome. The Gold Coast Titans have been
really supportive in the program that we've put in place,
and creative pathways for the netballers, the boys and girls
in the area. We had both our teams go to
finals this year, which was really exciting for not only
the players but also our community and our club. It's

(01:12):
been it's been really good.

Speaker 2 (01:14):
Big learning care for you too. I know you.

Speaker 1 (01:16):
I think you played as assistant coach and player coach
in your last part in your career. What's it been
like in the transition, especially in Australia into the coaching front.

Speaker 3 (01:26):
Yeah, it's been its it's two challenges. Obviously, different style
again here in Australia, but the ability for the girls
to kind of accept a new style as well and
play both has been really good. I've learned a lot
just dealing with different people, players, structures, all those kinds

(01:49):
of things. But it's been it's been good for my
growth as a coach and a person.

Speaker 2 (01:54):
I think absolutely.

Speaker 1 (01:56):
I mean, obviously you talk about the styles we've got,
you know, I suppose our New Zealand style in the
Australian style.

Speaker 2 (02:01):
You're coming back to.

Speaker 1 (02:02):
New Zealand, will you look to implement stuff that you've
been doing over there or do you need to realign
and get back to Probably.

Speaker 2 (02:08):
What we do here.

Speaker 3 (02:10):
Yeah, I think a bit of both. I think the
plan is to kind of offer something new to the
players if they'll accepted, and I sort of work for
the team that we have. So yeah, a bit of both.
I think. I think it's going to be exciting to
see what we can do.

Speaker 1 (02:29):
Well, that's right if you've got an open minded group
when it comes to I suppose the challenge with the
stars have been a tough time. Have you been part
of because now we're in that recruitment time, it looks
like there's some players movement, So have you had time
to be part of that with this or with the franchise?

Speaker 2 (02:46):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (02:46):
No, I think it was a little bit too late.
I think they had to start contracting when they did,
and I obviously hadn't been appointed. So the players that
they're looking at, they look like great players and would
combine as a good team. But I suppose that's partly
a coach's job, isn't it to coach the girls and

(03:06):
mold them and put them in yet so they can
work together. So haven't been involved, but the players that
have got have been pretty good.

Speaker 1 (03:16):
What about the challenges in a power where it's tough
at the moment in New Zealand.

Speaker 2 (03:19):
Obviously your side where you are in Australia.

Speaker 1 (03:21):
At the moment, we've had said Grace and a wiki
looking to go over, which can be a positive when
she gets to.

Speaker 2 (03:25):
Get experienced different network.

Speaker 1 (03:27):
But you know, what are the challenges we've got a
netball especially here in New Zealand.

Speaker 2 (03:30):
At the moment.

Speaker 3 (03:33):
Yeah, I don't know. I don't know if they are challenges.
I think it's really cool that players can actually across
the ditch and experience a different style and that'll just
enhance their individual game, but we always know they'll play
for New Zealand in the end. Yeah, it's probably one

(03:54):
of the biggest challenges that these other sports are the
women's sports that are doing really really well. Like you
look at the being and you've got basketball, so there's
a lot more opportunity for young women depending on what
sport they love. So I think that's probably one of
the challenges.

Speaker 1 (04:10):
It's a good challenge though, and it's a good thing
that we've got that absolutely. You know, I coach a
woman's cricket side and the Otago Spark, so you know
we've got players now playing full time and the White
ferns getting remunerated to the level that they should. So
it's a great thing, but it is you know, it's
important now that you've got an attractive product. We look
after the players and they get to enjoy themselves do
there because they've got so many good options, which is

(04:31):
a great thing.

Speaker 3 (04:32):
Which is awesome, Which is awesome. And they think they've
always talked about the male and female and that supporting space,
but now I think that's becoming non existent, which is great,
which is great for the future of our female pliss.

Speaker 1 (04:47):
You've talked about your learning, I mean coaching learning every day.
You know, has it been what you thought it was
going to be, but you have stepped into.

Speaker 3 (04:53):
Coaching, it's been a whole lot more. Well, I think
not only just for the coaching, and I think of
the court stuff too and working with the people at
the Titans office as well, and understanding that side of
the game of an organization, I should say. So that's
been really positive and I've losed a lot and in

(05:16):
that way as well.

Speaker 2 (05:18):
Excellent.

Speaker 1 (05:19):
Well, first of all, thank you very much for being
available to come on the show, and we are so
excited to know that you're coming back because seeing you
around Nippel. It gets us, specially get some of those
older folks a bit more excited knowing that you're going
to have an impact on the game here. Congratulations on
the role and thanks for joining.

Speaker 2 (05:33):
Us this morning.

Speaker 3 (05:34):
Oh, thank you so much. I'm really looking forward to it.

Speaker 2 (05:37):
Yeah, thank you very much. Tim Para, great to have
a coming back.

Speaker 1 (05:40):
Really is a legend of the game and so influential
when she was playing. But I could just imagine from
a coaching point of view that the influence he's going
to have on the game here. And as I said,
we lost you know, greston wiki. This's talk about, you know, their.

Speaker 2 (05:52):
Competitions and the relevance.

Speaker 1 (05:54):
But great to have I suppose someone like Tim and
Para coming back and joining a game and creating that
leadership
