Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is Gary and Shannon and you're listening to kf
I AM six forty, the Gary and Shannon Show on
demand on the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 2 (00:09):
Hey, welcome to our weekend fix. This is the section
of The Gary and Shannon Show we probably shouldn't and
couldn't put on the on the air for FCC regulations
and for corporate processes. You know what that means.
Speaker 3 (00:25):
Let's be real.
Speaker 2 (00:26):
Let's be real.
Speaker 1 (00:27):
Nobody's listening to this anymore. Nobody listens to our show
Monday through Friday anymore. I just want to we don't
get in trouble anymore. No one's getting suspended. No one's
gotten suspended forever. I bet we couldn't get suspended if
you know why.
Speaker 2 (00:40):
That's a good point. It's been a very long time.
Speaker 3 (00:42):
It's been years.
Speaker 1 (00:44):
Hey, I'm ready to get suspended up in here. When
you traveled, get a little buzz going on.
Speaker 2 (00:48):
What's the longest you've stayed in a single place. I'm
thinking more hotel room, an Airbnb kind of thing. What's
the longest you've stayed in a hotel?
Speaker 1 (00:58):
If I'm gonna go on a vacation and it's going
to be ten days, which is pretty much the long
vacation I would take or I do take. I don't
stay in a single place longer than three days. Yeah,
and that's that's that's a lot.
Speaker 3 (01:11):
Two days. Usually it's kind of the deal two to three.
Speaker 2 (01:14):
We have a vacation scheduled in a couple of weeks,
and we're going to do that same thing. It's gonna
be about nine days, but it will be in three
different places. And that's simply a matter of we're going
to be up and down the coast here and there's
plenty all kinds of stuff to see and family and
all that sort of.
Speaker 1 (01:29):
But you don't need to stay anywhere along the California
coast for longer than tonight.
Speaker 2 (01:34):
Especially if we've been here. Yeah, I mean, this isn't
going to be new territory for us. Most of it's
not so. But there was a there was a story
that came out regarding the it's a continuation of the
theme of the dirtiness of hotel rooms that we stay in.
I did in the beginning of this year when I
was in Arizona for baseball camp for a week. I
(01:56):
didn't have the room cleaned except the bathroom, and I
actually asked them at the front desk, Hey, you guys
don't have to change his sheet, like, especially because now
that's a big hotel thing, like if you don't need
your sheets washed, it'll save, it'll be green or whatever.
I just said, Hey, listen, leave my room, come clean
(02:18):
the bathroom, leave the rest of the room alone. I
don't care. It's just me.
Speaker 3 (02:21):
You can just place.
Speaker 1 (02:22):
Also, what we do is that do not disturb sign
on the door for the length of your time, and
they won't clean it.
Speaker 2 (02:27):
Yeah, and they were. They were great about that because.
Speaker 3 (02:29):
I'm not because you didn't want to tip them.
Speaker 2 (02:33):
Ken. We didn't talk about that until after my trip,
so I didn't think about that. Next year. It's going
to be all over my head though, and I'm gonna can't.
I can't won't be able to figure it out. But
there was a story regarding I'm not a germophobe. I
don't feel it takes a lot for me to get
squeamish about stuff inspired food. Last night, my wife had
(02:54):
cut some berries, some like raspberries and strawberries. When my
my like, I just picked the one that didn't have
the mold on it's it's anyway, there is a story
that suggests that one of the worst things you can
do in a hotel room is put your suitcase on
the bed while you're unpacking it. Yeah, now, the bed alone,
(03:16):
I am. I do not like that whatever camping style
tarp they usually put over that bed, that the bed
cover itself can be very industrial.
Speaker 3 (03:26):
You've got to stay in the better places.
Speaker 2 (03:28):
That thing has seen something.
Speaker 1 (03:30):
You still staying in places with the camping tarp. You
got to upgrade your hotel stay. Maybe here's the first
thing that I know, because I travel half the year
right for football. The first thing I do because I've
read all these stories and I'm not a germophobe ei either,
but I'd like to know the dirtiest parts of the
place where people have probably died before, right, like things
have gone down in every hotel room. Right.
Speaker 3 (03:53):
There's that I do right away. I take the throw
pillows and I throw them off of the bed. Because
the throw.
Speaker 1 (04:02):
Pillows, they are not cleaned. They just go from person
to person and nobody cleans them, no one steams them.
You don't know what's gone on with those throw pillows.
Get them off the bed right away. The second thing
I do is you get out the luggage rack. Don't
put your luggage on the floor. Don't put your luggage
(04:23):
on the bed. Put the luggage on the luggage rack.
There's less surface there. It's just the folding thing.
Speaker 3 (04:30):
You pull it out, throw it there, because if you
put your luck.
Speaker 1 (04:33):
If I put my luggage on my floor, that means
all the stuff in my luggage is gonna end up
on the floor too, Like I'll just it'll all become
like one space there. And I don't want my clothes
on the hotel floor when I think about it, right,
But sometimes when you're in the moment and you're just
rifling through.
Speaker 3 (04:48):
Stuff, you're late.
Speaker 1 (04:50):
But exactly if you put it on the luggage rack,
on the thing that folds out, chances are you're not
gonna be throwing stuff from the luggage onto the floor.
Speaker 3 (04:59):
That's not go happen.
Speaker 1 (05:00):
So there's a greater chance you don't bring home with
you or put on your person the bodily fluids from
the people that stayed before you that are now on
your clothes. The third thing that I make sure to
do is don't look too close, not at the walls,
not at the floors. Don't go look in for things
you don't want to find.
Speaker 2 (05:21):
Low lighting is your friend? Low lighting? Yeah, don't turn
on every light.
Speaker 3 (05:24):
Do not.
Speaker 1 (05:26):
Yeah, lamps are great overhead lights off, lamps on.
Speaker 3 (05:29):
That's a great way to go.
Speaker 2 (05:31):
Yeah, that's one of the things I know.
Speaker 3 (05:33):
Don't think about it.
Speaker 2 (05:34):
There was a place that we stayed in Cancun, which
this was a couple of years ago. It was a
beautiful place, but there what's different about a place like that.
I assume it's simply because it's tropical and carpet wouldn't work.
It was a tile floor that made me so much
more comfortable, a tile floor because you could see what
(05:56):
was going on there. If there was a stain on
the floor, pretty easily identif that area.
Speaker 1 (06:01):
I do love that about places and resorts Mexico specifically,
or Hawaii where it is like a tile floor. There's
a place in pass so we used to say nice tile,
old Spanish tile for that very reason. Because carpet hides
all sorts of sins, ball hair, all of it.
Speaker 2 (06:21):
I stayed in a place the most recent time.
Speaker 1 (06:25):
I like that he didn't skip a beat when I
said ballhairs. Reminds me I have a girlfriend who I've
seen I've gone on girls trips, maybe with like two times.
She's a friend of a friend, and every time we
have a text exchange she brings up, Oh.
Speaker 3 (06:38):
My god, girl, I never forget about the ball hair.
Speaker 1 (06:40):
Because it was one time we were at a hotel
and we were in the hotel pool and I was like,
I don't know about shared pools, definitely not hot tubs.
I think about all the strange ball hair that goes on.
And she's like, I've never been able to forget that.
You're so right. I've never gotten into a hotel hot
tub since then.
Speaker 3 (06:59):
Because it's true.
Speaker 2 (07:00):
It's a young person's game. It is he the hotel
hot tub, is it? And I mean that because huge
it's kids. Yeah, it's kids.
Speaker 1 (07:08):
Yeah, kids aren't thinking about that stuff. You're twenty five,
you've had sixteen, like you know, four locos or whatever.
You're not thinking about other guy's ball hair. But when
you're like forty and you start to think about it,
you're like, oh, what am I doing in here?
Speaker 2 (07:23):
I do think the hotel hotel window reopens after the
age of about sixteen.
Speaker 1 (07:27):
Ye oh yeah, but I'm in the period. I'm in
the period. We're all, yeah, absolutely not, You're talking about
care securities.
Speaker 3 (07:34):
I still care.
Speaker 2 (07:36):
There was a place we stayed in Fulsome, which is
just outside the Sacramento, that had a It was a
tiny little place. We're only there for one or two nights,
I think, my wife and I, and it was it
was a the cheap Listen. I'm not a good traveler.
I'm not I make the reservations. I don't choose correctly
(07:56):
this there's there was a cleanliness issue, shall we say,
with the bathroom. And again, the room itself is fine.
It's a rele it's a new hotel, and I mean
it's within it opened maybe eight or nine months ago.
But I'm as I'm realizing there's some cleanliness issues with
the bathroom. I'm starting to do the math of Okay,
nine months, so that's you know, two hundred and seventy
(08:19):
five days worth of people staying in this room. You know,
one or two every night. We're talking literally hundreds of
people have been in this bathroom. And when you start
thinking about it.
Speaker 1 (08:32):
Thinking about it, you can't think about it gets I
started getting a little bit creeped out about it. You
get super germophobe, super OCD. You started thinking about what
went on in every part of that hotel room, on
every surface, on every couch, on every chair.
Speaker 3 (08:46):
Oh, it's not good.
Speaker 2 (08:47):
The other thing we stayed at a place in Santa
Barbara one time where it was on the recommendation of
a friend. This is beautiful right on the water. It
was a great room if you just like I said,
keep the lights down and sat on the patio and
looked out at the ocean. It was great. Everything else
about this was a little bit weird, like somebody shooting
(09:08):
amateur porn in this place. Yeah, because there was a
there was a an oversized chair in the corner in
a room that should not have had an oversized chair
in the corner, Like there was not enough a square
footage for this room to have a chair like that.
And there there was lighting on the ceiling that basically
(09:30):
were spotlights onto that chair and controlled with one switch.
So one switch you've got your lamps that come on,
and then the other switch you've got sex chair lighting
on the sex chairs go. And it was it was
a weird sex.
Speaker 3 (09:45):
Lamp, sex sex lighting, sex chairs.
Speaker 1 (09:48):
Yeah, but what are the odds that, Like everybody thinks.
Speaker 2 (09:52):
So we had to turn the light off when we
had sex on it just because we didn't want to see.
Speaker 3 (09:55):
Whatever, Right, what are the odds? Thank you for that visual?
Speaker 2 (10:01):
It's dark, you can't see anything, there's no visual, there's
no visual.
Speaker 1 (10:06):
One are the odds that everybody feels the same way,
so nobody does anything gross in a hotel room.
Speaker 2 (10:12):
The chair is actually pristine.
Speaker 3 (10:14):
Yeah slim, Yeah, very slim. I thought i'd throw it
out there, but you're right, no, I think it's very slim.
Speaker 1 (10:20):
I think of like worst case scenario sometimes when I'm
in a hotel room, murder murder, Like homeless dude lived
in there for seven days, murdering six people. P Diddy
is there visiting for a few hours with like six girlfriends.
Speaker 2 (10:36):
And they don't find it for three weeks.
Speaker 1 (10:38):
Like I'm like that show bad thoughts in a hotel room.
Speaker 3 (10:42):
Like my mind goes worst case scenario.
Speaker 2 (10:46):
The bathrooms have never been have never been a problem
for me. Most of like I said, most of them
are hard surfaces, so I don't have a I don't
have an issue with bathrooms in hotel rooms.
Speaker 1 (10:55):
It is funny the older I get, the more it's like,
oh I like this place.
Speaker 3 (10:59):
It's so yeah, Like that was not something that occurred
to me twenty years ago.
Speaker 2 (11:04):
Twenty years ago, like where's the view?
Speaker 3 (11:05):
Oh? Cool view? You know.
Speaker 2 (11:07):
Twenty years ago it was like is the ball hair?
Speaker 3 (11:09):
Who cares?
Speaker 2 (11:10):
Is it going to cost me anything to open the refrigerator?
Speaker 3 (11:12):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (11:12):
Yeah, don't even look at the refrigerator. It's going to
cost me five dollars to look at the refrigerator.
Speaker 2 (11:19):
And what's amazing? Now?
Speaker 1 (11:20):
Now I'm like, why was I so worried about the
mini bar? Like it's like, okay, it's ten dollars, it's.
Speaker 2 (11:26):
Not but it's not anymore.
Speaker 1 (11:28):
I feel like my parents put the fear of God
into me with the mini bar, Like we would be
bankrupt as a family if I had a bag of
eminems like that would be the financial ruin of the
entire family.
Speaker 2 (11:38):
Well, and the difference between you and me is I
never stayed in a place that had a minibar. I
didn't know what that was until I was about thirty
years old. Clearly, honestly, no idea that there was a
place that I assumed that if you were staying in
a motel, because that's what we stayed in. If you
were staying in a motel, you and you wanted food,
you had to go across the street to the seven eleven.
(12:00):
That's the kind of neighborhoods that we would vacation in.
Not that there would be any sort of source of food,
like you wouldn't.
Speaker 1 (12:06):
We wouldn't have a thing to do if you want
snacks is go to the seven alone.
Speaker 2 (12:09):
Yeah, But we never we never stayed in a place
that had like a hotel, bar, or restaurant or anything
like that. So that was absolutely foreign to me. And
then when I realized the technology of it the very
first time was I was working at a radio station
in Seattle and we came to cover the two thousand
I guess it was Rose Bowl, just at the beginning
(12:31):
of the year two thousand. Washington Husky's playing the Purdue
boiler Makers at the Rose Bowl and they sent us
down to do pregame show stuff the day before, I
think it was the day before, and then the day
of the game, and we stayed at Beverly Hilton of
all places, and I was, uhstounded. I thought, for sure,
(12:51):
for one thing, they were going to kick me out
because obviously I didn't belong there. But second, the amazing
amount of amenities that were available, like a television with
multiple channels, and that there was stuff in the room
that you could have. I mean, granted I was terrified
because I didn't want the company to have to pay
for it, but I was just stunned at how nice
(13:12):
a place that was.
Speaker 3 (13:13):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (13:14):
Again I look at it now, I'm like, yeah, it's
a hotel. Right, it's fine, it's a hotel. Well.
Speaker 3 (13:21):
I think the takeaway from this is, uh, you know.
Speaker 2 (13:26):
Luggage rack, luggage rack, keep the lights down, lights down,
stay off of the extra furniture.
Speaker 1 (13:33):
And now everyone's going to identify the sex chair when
they when they go into their next hotel room.
Speaker 2 (13:38):
Yeah, please make sure that if you see a sex chair,
you take a picture of it and send it to
us at Gary and Channon.
Speaker 3 (13:43):
Sometimes I go into a hotel room and I go,
what do you do with this chair?
Speaker 1 (13:47):
Like? Who's going to have sex on this chair or
this couch? This looks uncomfortable. Well, shouldn't they all be
designed to be sexual for that?
Speaker 2 (13:57):
How would you design that? What do you think should
be like low arms? Some hotels really happen gradual, gradual incline, Yeah,
were declined.
Speaker 3 (14:07):
Surface area is the same.
Speaker 2 (14:09):
We had a couch like that in our office one time.
I mean it wasn't.
Speaker 1 (14:14):
Talk about a sex couch. You guys, you were not here.
But we had a we had a couch in our
office ten years ago where we know of at least
two people that had sex on that couch. Four oh yeah, yeah,
four poor people. But we don't know the sexual partner. Well,
we know one of the times.
Speaker 2 (14:32):
We know what so we know of three. We assume
there was a four.
Speaker 1 (14:35):
And then so we knew this about this couch in
our office. And then Rich Murrauta, he worked who worked
on the morning show, came in one time. He was
like the liberal foil to Handle back when Handle was conservative,
and he had this storied career as a boxer and
as a boxing announcer and just like a like six
or four bald headed like dudes, dude, right, And he
(14:57):
came in one day and he sits down on the
sex couch.
Speaker 3 (15:00):
He has no idea it's the sex couch.
Speaker 2 (15:01):
And he's bleeding like he is some wound on his arm.
Speaker 1 (15:07):
And he's just like there's blood and and he's such
a dude student he doesn't even know he's bleeding. And
he's like bleeding all over the sex couch and We're like, Rich,
what happened?
Speaker 3 (15:17):
He's like, what do you mean. We're like, you're bleeding
all over our couch.
Speaker 1 (15:20):
He's like, oh, like the couch is already disgusting us,
Like it was already like you know, but but then yeah.
Speaker 2 (15:27):
So then we got a message from Quantico Virginia and
the FBI took that couch away so that they could
run tests on it. That's that they teach their forensics
and analysts by going over.
Speaker 3 (15:37):
That is an awful story. We should never share that
again too late.
Speaker 2 (15:40):
Our weekend fix is, of course, the stuff you can't
hear on the rest of the show. Make sure you
follow us wherever you follow your your what do you
call it your podcast?
Speaker 3 (15:49):
It wasn't even a big couch.
Speaker 2 (15:50):
It was a tiny couch, but it was full of
you've been listening to the Gary and Shannon Show.
Speaker 1 (15:58):
You can always hear us live on kof IAM six
