So just to pull back the curtain a little bit
here at the station, we're in a constant state of flux.
I feel like on this floor, our studios used to
be on one side of the building, and then if
you listen regularly, you know they blocked that off. They
moved us to the other side of the building. So
it's been kind of like the newsroom's moved a couple times.
We've moved around a few times, musical chairs.

Our most recent office is pretty small, and we've got
to remember the chair, the desk you used to have
in kindergarten or the primary grades, where you had like
a side desk, like you had your chair and then
there was like a little side like just like a
little side. It wasn't a desk in front of you.
It was just kind of to the side, like just

a little platform. Anyway, we have those. That's our desk
is those little platforms that are attached to the chair
in our office, and then there's a room for Matt
to have a desk there. But that's about it. And
we've got to kind of a box of stuff. That's
where we keep our fireball and our rum and other things. Anyway,

so they're doing some more changing around here, and Gary
uses a desk that's outside of our office because he
prepares the show, he pulls sound, he does all of
these things, and he needs a real desk, not the
kindergarten like half platform desk situation. Uses several screens on

things to pull sound from different resources.

And they said, you can't do that anymore, and.

We're gonna need that desk, so you're gonna have to

Well, the story that we told you yesterday was the
cyclost variasis, a nasty parasitic infection that causes not my words,
explosive wannery diarrhea. Has sickened a bunch of people in
Michigan other parts of the United States. US Centers for
Disease Control and Prevention said that it's actually hospitalized a
couple of dozen people so far.

Because the FDA has upgraded its recall of zaps which
are delicious to its highest possible risk classification, that these
chips are going to give you the runs, the zaps.

More than one hundred passengers on a twenty day cruise
to Alaska got sick. They believe it was neurovirus. CDC
says the Princess Cruise ship docked back in San Francisco
yesterday with one hundred passengers and twenty three crew members
stricken with the virus, about three percent of the passengers.

Well, the good news when you're on a cruise ship
and you're not quarantined to just your room or there
is a bathroom, so it's not that bad.

They there's bathrooms everywhere.

You know, there's enough bathrooms to accommodate salmonila on a
cruise ship usually this case.

And then finally, health officials have issued at ocean water
closure at Talia Beach in Laguna Beach where I believe. No,
that's not where Heather was when she delivered that message.
But two thousand gallons of sewage spilled in the water
due to a malfunction of a forced main sewer line.

Oh, that's right in time for the fourth of July.
That's not going to go over well in Laguna.

One quarter mile upcoast to one quarter mile down coast
of Anita Street at Talia Beach. There the affected area
will remain closed for the public for at least three
days until they do some water quality follow up tests
and that they meet acceptable health standards. You do not
want to get the poo in your face.

I'm confused why there's so much press about this missing
World Cup fan. Like, I got buddies that say I'm

until five am on Monday into Tuesday because that game
England Mexico kicks off at one in the morning. There

An England soccer fan who vanished while traveling to the
US for the World Cup has been found safe in Spain,
completely unaware of all of the ado about his disappearance.

He's sixty five. His name's Michael Hewitt.

He last spoke with his family in Barcelona June twenty first,
one day after he left the UK. He was in
Spain for a short layover before he was set to
fly out to Boston, That's where England played a draw
against Gona last Wednesday, but he lost his phone, which
contained all his travel tickets. He got stuck in Barcelona.

He lost his phone, didn't know any of the phone numbers.
His brother says he didn't think to go to the
embassy because he still had his passport and all of
his money and didn't think that they would. Really they go, well,
you still have your passport and your money. What a
weak care. So instead he just went about enjoying his
time in Barthelona before he then flew to Boston to

What did his family think thought of befell sixty five

Come on, you don't think he's a grown man market
for sixty five year old. That's why I don't understand

goes with saying that this has been such a successful
event thus far.

There has been no riots, no problems, no actual missing
people that we know about, right as opposed to a
grown man who just gets stuck in Barcelona having a
great time.

come as visitors for just behaving.

My story was that while I was I believe probably
a seventh grade, eighth grade something like that, we hosted
a young woman from Spain, an exchange student. She was
gonna be with us for four weeks or something like that.

Now, how did your family get into this?

I don't even remember how. You'd have to ask my parents, right,
but but what they're gone, so I don't know. My
sisters might know how it led to it. I just
remember she moved in Mireya was her name. She was nice,
She had an older sister that was coming on the
same program, staying with the different family. And there's a
group of I don't know, twenty twenty five students from

Spain that we're all going to the high school. And
the big deal was because we lived close to San Francisco,
they were going to spend a day in San Francisco.
So they get on a we take them to the school.
They got on a bus and it was a I
don't remember it was a weekend. I don't remember a
Saturday or Sunday. But the we go to pick them
up at seven forty five, eight o'clock at night whatever

it was, and they were supposed to be in the
city all day. They never got off the bus. There's
like three or four students. They never get off the bus.
And this is long before cel phone were ubiquitous. So
the leader of the group comes off the bus. It's like, hey,
I'm sorry, but they didn't make the bus. And we
told them where, we told him when to be there.
We don't know where they are. So we're like, well,

How old are they seventeen sixteen, seventeen eighteen, something like that,
And they go, well, they know where you are. I
mean they all have maps of Petaluma.

Least out front told them get on the bus.

They're smart people. We don't know what to do. We can't.
I mean, we've told the San Francisco Police Department be
on the lookout for four Spanish speaking teenagers who don't
know where they are. But we can't. I mean, we
had to. We had a responsibility to get the rest
of the group home. So the leader of the group,
and I think it was some of the other parents.

I don't think my parents went where they were told
basically go home because in case she comes home. So
they drove back into the city and spent all night
driving around the locations that they had gone earlier in
the day as part of their field trip. And it
comes out where late that night, early the next morning,

they have no idea. They're not getting in contact with anybody.
They're not calling the emergency numbers, we have no idea
where they are, what happened to them. So somebody calls
the parents of the kids. There's four of them, but
again two of them are sisters, and just to tell them,
your daughters are lost in a major city and we
have no idea where they are how to get a

hold of them. So they booked flights Mom and dad
because at your seventeen year old, yeah, in a major
city that you have So they booked flights from Barcelona
to San Francisco and came in later that night. Now,
if it was I believe it was Saturday night that
they were missing Sunday all day, they're missing Sunday night.

They end up calling one of the numbers that they're
supposed to contact, and somebody waiting by the phone says,
don't move, will come get you. They drive the forty
five minutes or an hour into the city, they pick
them up and they bring them back. Well. Meanwhile, mom
and dad from Spain are already on the airplane flying
to San Francisco and again whatever however long that flight is,

twelve fifteen hours, no idea, what's going on on the ground.
You can't you didn't get messages. So they land in
San Francisco still thinking that their daughters are completely missing.
So once they get on the ground, they called again
one of these phone numbers that somebody was sitting by
for twenty four hours a day, and they answer the phone.
They are like, good news, your daughters have been found.

They're safe. They're perfectly fine. Mom and Dad end up
staying with us and their one daughter. I think both
of them actually stayed with us for a couple of
nights because they were in trouble. It was in Spanish.

know where they were hate ash Fri. They were at
a club, okay, and we're just drinking the night away
because that's what you do in Barkalore.

We've moved around a few times, musical chairs.

a little platform. Anyway, we have those. That's our desk
is those little platforms that are attached to the chair
in our office, and then there's a room for Matt
to have a desk there. But that's about it. And
we've got to kind of a box of stuff. That's
where we keep our fireball and our rum and other things. Anyway,

so they're doing some more changing around here, and Gary
uses a desk that's outside of our office because he
prepares the show, he pulls sound, he does all of
these things, and he needs a real desk, not the
kindergarten like half platform desk situation. Uses several screens on

to Alaska got sick. They believe it was neurovirus. CDC

and you're not quarantined to just your room or there
is a bathroom, so it's not that bad.

But two thousand gallons of sewage spilled in the water
due to a malfunction of a forced main sewer line.

One quarter mile upcoast to one quarter mile down coast
of Anita Street at Talia Beach. There the affected area
will remain closed for the public for at least three

so on Monday night. Keir Starmer, the outgoing UK Prime Minister,
has laid down an emergency law bars can stay open
until five am on Monday into Tuesday because that game
England Mexico kicks off at one in the morning. There
wo so they're gonna they're gonna allow bars to stay.

An England soccer fan who vanished while traveling to the
US for the World Cup has been found safe in Spain,
completely unaware of all of the ado about his disappearance.

He's sixty five. His name's Michael Hewitt.
Speaker 1 (21:09):
He last spoke with his family in Barcelona June twenty first,
one day after he left the UK. He was in
Spain for a short layover before he was set to
fly out to Boston, That's where England played a draw
against Gona last Wednesday, but he lost his phone, which
contained all his travel tickets. He got stuck in Barcelona.
Speaker 4 (21:35):
He lost his phone, didn't know any of the phone numbers.
His brother says he didn't think to go to the
embassy because he still had his passport and all of
his money and didn't think that they would. Really they go, well,
you still have your passport and your money. What a
weak care. So instead he just went about enjoying his
time in Barthelona before he then flew to Boston to

watch England play against Ghana last week.
Speaker 1 (22:00):
What did his family think thought of befell sixty five
year old Michael Hewitt. They think you get trafficked or something.
Come on, you don't think he's a grown man market
for sixty five year old. That's why I don't understand
this story. It's so silly, I mean. And that's it
goes with saying that this has been such a successful
event thus far.
Speaker 3 (22:20):
It has been so great.
Speaker 1 (22:21):
There has been no riots, no problems, no actual missing
people that we know about, right as opposed to a
grown man who just gets stuck in Barcelona having a
great time.
Speaker 3 (22:34):
It really has gone off really well.
Speaker 1 (22:36):
And a round of applause to everybody who organized this
and to just people across America and the people who've
come as visitors for just behaving.
Speaker 3 (22:45):
And being cool and having a great time.

My story was that while I was I believe probably
a seventh grade, eighth grade something like that, we hosted
a young woman from Spain, an exchange student. She was
gonna be with us for four weeks or something like that.
Speaker 3 (23:04):
Now, how did your family get into this?
Speaker 4 (23:07):
I don't even remember how. You'd have to ask my parents, right,
but but what they're gone, so I don't know. My
sisters might know how it led to it. I just
remember she moved in Mireya was her name. She was nice,
She had an older sister that was coming on the
same program, staying with the different family. And there's a
group of I don't know, twenty twenty five students from
(23:29):
Spain that we're all going to the high school. And
the big deal was because we lived close to San Francisco,
they were going to spend a day in San Francisco.
So they get on a we take them to the school.
They got on a bus and it was a I
don't remember it was a weekend. I don't remember a
Saturday or Sunday. But the we go to pick them
up at seven forty five, eight o'clock at night whatever
(23:51):
it was, and they were supposed to be in the
city all day. They never got off the bus. There's
like three or four students. They never get off the bus.
And this is long before cel phone were ubiquitous. So
the leader of the group comes off the bus. It's like, hey,
I'm sorry, but they didn't make the bus. And we
told them where, we told him when to be there.
We don't know where they are. So we're like, well,
(24:12):
what do we do. I mean, they're not our people.
How old are they seventeen sixteen, seventeen eighteen, something like that,
And they go, well, they know where you are. I
mean they all have maps of Petaluma.
Speaker 3 (24:28):
Least out front told them get on the bus.
Speaker 4 (24:30):
They're smart people. We don't know what to do. We can't.
I mean, we've told the San Francisco Police Department be
on the lookout for four Spanish speaking teenagers who don't
know where they are. But we can't. I mean, we
had to. We had a responsibility to get the rest
of the group home. So the leader of the group,
and I think it was some of the other parents.
(24:51):
I don't think my parents went where they were told
basically go home because in case she comes home. So
they drove back into the city and spent all night
driving around the locations that they had gone earlier in
the day as part of their field trip. And it
comes out where late that night, early the next morning,
(25:13):
they have no idea. They're not getting in contact with anybody.
They're not calling the emergency numbers, we have no idea
where they are, what happened to them. So somebody calls
the parents of the kids. There's four of them, but
again two of them are sisters, and just to tell them,
your daughters are lost in a major city and we
have no idea where they are how to get a
(25:35):
hold of them. So they booked flights Mom and dad
because at your seventeen year old, yeah, in a major
city that you have So they booked flights from Barcelona
to San Francisco and came in later that night. Now,
if it was I believe it was Saturday night that
they were missing Sunday all day, they're missing Sunday night.
(25:56):
They end up calling one of the numbers that they're
supposed to contact, and somebody waiting by the phone says,
don't move, will come get you. They drive the forty
five minutes or an hour into the city, they pick
them up and they bring them back. Well. Meanwhile, mom
and dad from Spain are already on the airplane flying
to San Francisco and again whatever however long that flight is,
(26:16):
twelve fifteen hours, no idea, what's going on on the ground.
You can't you didn't get messages. So they land in
San Francisco still thinking that their daughters are completely missing.
So once they get on the ground, they called again
one of these phone numbers that somebody was sitting by
for twenty four hours a day, and they answer the phone.
They are like, good news, your daughters have been found.
(26:38):
They're safe. They're perfectly fine. Mom and Dad end up
staying with us and their one daughter. I think both
of them actually stayed with us for a couple of
nights because they were in trouble. It was in Spanish.
Speaker 1 (26:52):
I had no idea what they said, so we don't
know where they were hate ash Fri. They were at
a club, okay, and we're just drinking the night away
because that's what you do in Barkalore.
Speaker 4 (27:01):
What year was this.
Speaker 3 (27:04):
Trying do eighty.
Speaker 6 (27:06):
Five?
Speaker 3 (27:07):
Oh wow? Okay, so there exactly some cocaine involved.
Speaker 4 (27:10):
Probably, yeah, And I remember, I mean our family was it.
Speaker 3 (27:14):
Was it was Madonna. You didn't like a rare cocaine.
Speaker 1 (27:17):
It was like fresh Madonna cocaine, not this twenty twenty
six cocaine.
Speaker 4 (27:23):
Not the cocaine you do with an aed next to
you in case exact freaking narcan.
Speaker 9 (27:28):
Well, maybe a couple other things. One is, by the way,
happy birthday, Shannon. You're awesome. So you are just a beautiful,
wonderful human being that makes me laugh. So happy happy birthday.
And then also we got to stop with the June
gloom because it's July, so let's call it the July
gray sky.
Speaker 7 (27:46):
Yeah, there you go.

I have a great birthday, have a great day, and
