Speaker 1 (00:00):
You're listening to KFI AM six forty on demand.
Speaker 2 (00:06):
On demand anytime, the iHeartRadio app. All right, we'll get
the latest on the National Guard shooting in DC in
just a moment. However, one thing here before we get
too deep into this. Mark you did you hear Mark
Thompson talk about He's like he's got a busy day
on Thanksgiving and and I was I gotta.
Speaker 3 (00:26):
Be extreme with that. I was so jealous, were you really?
Speaker 4 (00:28):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (00:29):
It was because he's like, Oh, I'm gonna go hang
out with all these network celebrities.
Speaker 5 (00:32):
They're so they're so cool. Well that sounds onerous, it
sounds rough, they sound, but he listed like the cool
network celebrities. It's not like he's hanging out with the
ones that you're like, oh God, like you know the
secret lives of Mormon wives. No, keep me away from that.
I'm not going out for that. But he's hanging out
with dateline people. Okay, I make you a deal. I'll
make you a deal. Okay, all right, you can come
(00:53):
in with me to work tomorrow night. Oh oh, would
you enjoy that?
Speaker 3 (00:58):
Yeah, we'll get back to here.
Speaker 2 (01:01):
Okay, I'm just thinking I'd like to go out to dinner.
Even just like Discovery Channel starts, give me the Swamp
People or the Curse of Oak Island guys.
Speaker 3 (01:09):
I'd love to hang out with those guys.
Speaker 5 (01:11):
I want to have dinner with that guy on the
Alien Show with the big hair. Oh yeah, Suklos is
that his name?
Speaker 3 (01:18):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (01:18):
And I think he lives I think I heard this
when I was in San Diego. I think he lives
in Rancho Santa Fe. Okay, I believe, so, well, use
your connections, get him, get him here.
Speaker 3 (01:29):
I have none.
Speaker 2 (01:29):
Oh that's again, we have to have we have to
ask Mark. He's the one with the connections. Okay, all right?
Speaker 3 (01:34):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (01:35):
Could it be aliens are the reason that we have
the technology we do. I gotta hang out with that guy.
Oh yeah, he actually, and I've seen him doing on
other other interviews. And he seems so nutty on that
Alien show, But in other interview he seems like a
really smart, actually kind of kind of like geeky cool guy.
Speaker 3 (01:55):
Don't you dare to tell me that's a stick? Don't
you dare?
Speaker 2 (01:58):
No, it's I think I think he just kind of
ups his personality a little bit. I think he sort
of leans into the quirkiness, or maybe the editors lean
into the quirkiness.
Speaker 5 (02:07):
Everybody has a persona.
Speaker 3 (02:10):
I don't think he's faking it.
Speaker 2 (02:12):
I just think that it's kind of like he gets
excited about that, and then the editors love when he
talks about the aliens.
Speaker 5 (02:17):
I said, well, you should know I'm this cranky in
real life. This is not shtick. Same okay, yeah, same good.
This is why I like you.
Speaker 3 (02:25):
I knew he had something in common. Yeah yeah.
Speaker 2 (02:28):
Let me see. I'm trying to see if we've got
any of the updated stuff. Let's see televis address tonight.
The president said the suspect came to the United States
during the Biden administration. This is the shooting of two
National guardsmen in DC. Trump said he directed his administration
to review all Afghans who entered the country while President
Joe Biden was in office. So now I guess we're
(02:50):
gonna target everybody from Afghanistan. We must take all necessary
measures to ensure the removal of any alien from any
country who does not belong here or add a benefit
to our country. If they can't love our country, we
don't want them. So the national, this Afghan national, they said,
this is from the Wall Street Journal. Ambush National guardsmen
near the White House this afternoon. According to law enforcement officials,
(03:12):
guardsmen remain in critical condition the act of evil. Police
believe the shooter was responsible for the attack. Guardsmen were
on patrol when the shooter allegedly came from around the
corner and opened fire.
Speaker 3 (03:26):
The mayor said it was a targeted shooting.
Speaker 2 (03:30):
Don't know much else do I'm not seeing anything else
being reported right now.
Speaker 5 (03:34):
Well, I think we're going to need a fact check
throughout the evening about when the shooter entered the country,
because that's not the information I'm seeing and I'm trying
to track it down right now.
Speaker 2 (03:42):
Okay, all right, I'm just telling you what the President said.
So okay, you know, I have no idea, but that's
that's good.
Speaker 3 (03:48):
That thank you.
Speaker 2 (03:49):
And this is what I was talking with Mark about too,
is I think this is we're in this again. It's
this weird situation where we have a tragic event that happens,
everybody scrambling for information, and even the officials don't know
exactly what's going on. Remember earlier today we were told
the guardsmen died and then they went well, not quite
dead yet, they're in critical condition, and now all of
(04:10):
a sudden, we went from okay, so who's dead and
who's not. Evidently nobody has died thus far. That I'm
not trying to take any of the horrific nature of
this crime. I'm not trying to diminish it in any way,
shape or form. I'm only trying to point out that
the information continues to trickle out and then the truth
usually takes somewhere between.
Speaker 3 (04:29):
I'm going to say, twenty four and.
Speaker 2 (04:34):
Seventy two hours before we get a clear picture of
what the situation was.
Speaker 3 (04:39):
And it doesn't matter.
Speaker 2 (04:40):
If it's this, if it's a school shooting, if it's
if it's floods in Texas. It seems to take a
while before we actually get, you know, sort of boiled
down all of the I herds. And he says, and
she says, so we'll wait and find out what happens
there in the meantime. It is true the President said
we need to send more troops to DC. This was
a CNN talk talking about that development.
Speaker 6 (05:02):
So this is the scene now just blocks from the
White House in downtown Washington, d C. After two members
of the National Guard were shot and critically wounded. This afternoon,
The guardsmen were near a bus shop outside of Commuter
train station when, according to police, a gunman came around
the corner and intentionally targeted them. The suspect was captured
by other guard members who were nearby. Sources say the
(05:24):
motive is unclear at this hour. Also, this just into
us here at see.
Speaker 2 (05:28):
Yeah, and Mick Caspertel was saying that the shooter was
not being cooperative. I'm always surprised when shooters are cooperative.
Doesn't that seem Doesn't that seem strange? You know, Yeah,
that seems like a big variable. And I have some
clarification on that other point. The shooter, whose name is
la Canwall lak At the last WAO, believed to be
(05:49):
from Afghanistan, came to the United States in twenty twenty one.
Came to the States in twenty twenty one under the
Biden administration. Okay, he applied for asylum in twenty four
and was granted asylum this April twenty five under the
Trump administration. So well, really, a little bit from column,
a little bit from Colum b Oh.
Speaker 3 (06:06):
That's interesting, that's fascinating.
Speaker 2 (06:09):
You know what this is gonna sound terrible because first
of all, I want to rewind wishing out of this happened,
but I'm I'm almost if it has to happen, if
it can go where both administrations are pointing fingers, then
it kind of takes the political nonsense out of it.
Speaker 3 (06:27):
You want to think, well, I think, And.
Speaker 2 (06:29):
Of course when it comes to immigration and then crime
committed by immigrants, that's always going to be one that
that President Trump can use to rally his base around,
and then they'll point out this was Biden's fault, he
let him in the first place.
Speaker 3 (06:42):
And I understand they're going to do that, but.
Speaker 2 (06:45):
It kind of takes that edge off when you go, Okay,
maybe this isn't so black and white is what everybody
wants to always make these things out to be.
Speaker 3 (06:52):
All right, continue on here seeing it.
Speaker 6 (06:54):
DNN, the Trump administration has just found an emergency motion
to keep the National Guard in Washington, DC. CNN Senior
Justice correspondent Evan Paris is joining us now, So Evan,
what is this? What does this mean?
Speaker 7 (07:06):
Well, what the the Trump administration is doing is appealing
this order that came from a judge just a few
days ago ruling siding with the DC Attorney General's office,
which had sued the administration over the deployment of those
National Guard here in Washington, d C. Now, what the
city Attorney general had had filed was arguing that the
(07:28):
administration that the President had exceeded his authority to use
and to deploy National Guard on the street of d
C to essentially do crime fighting, not for other purposes
including perhaps putting down an insurrection, right which is the
purpose of the National.
Speaker 3 (07:44):
Guard, or like the January sixth thing in the city.
Speaker 8 (07:47):
And so a judge had agreed with the DC Attorney
General's office, but had stayed the ruling for a few
days to give the administration time to appeal, and that
is what now has happened. The administration is saying that
essentially this rule really does interfere with the president's authority
to deploy the National Guard, and it is his sole
(08:08):
authority to be able to decide how to do that dereka.
Speaker 2 (08:11):
So that's interesting because remember after January sixth, we heard, well,
the president can't deploy the National Guard.
Speaker 3 (08:17):
That would have been up to Nancy Pelosi.
Speaker 2 (08:19):
But now the administration is arguing that he has the
sole authority to deploy the National Guard. So again, we're
playing politics with a lot of this. It'll be interesting
to see whether or not current events and the contemporary
sort of emotion that's around what's happening in DC today
weighs into any other decisions that a judge or appellate
(08:39):
court might have. The courts try to take a longer
look at things rather than whatever the zeitgeist is of
the day.
Speaker 3 (08:46):
I don't know how this is going to play out
them and we shall see.
Speaker 2 (08:52):
As the President says, stay tuned, We're going to keep
an eye on this for any breaking news on the
story as it develops and undoubtedly continue to develop throughout
the night. All right, imagine you've been working outside all day.
You've accomplished so much. You just want a nice big
glass of ice water. You add some cubes to your glass,
you fill it from the tap, and you start to chug. Well,
(09:14):
that's odd, tastes funny. Now you're feeling funny, and sure
you could be a fire breather in your saliba. Now
makes for a universal solvent, but that's probably not the
kind of refreshment you were into. Now, who in California
is drinking the dragon spit? It could be you. You'll
find out next Chris Merril I AM six forty live
everywhere on the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 1 (09:33):
You're listening to KFI AM six forty on.
Speaker 2 (09:36):
Demand Pleasure spending time with yous. Thanksgiving Eve, we'll talk
more about Drunksgiving. Today is Drunksgiving, so that's happening, no
avoiding it. That's coming up a little bit later out
of the program, and we will tell you also about
how you can do Thanksgiving right that is, that's right
(09:59):
after Mark's seven thirty news. Did want to hit on
this though. If you are in Ventura, you better check
because your water might be gross. Not just oh this
water is contaminated, or this water has toxins enitor, this
water is smelly.
Speaker 3 (10:16):
Nope, this water could start a lawnmower.
Speaker 1 (10:20):
Well.
Speaker 9 (10:21):
By now most of us have our Thanksgiving plans said,
but for this Ventura County neighborhood, they're now having to
rethink all of those plans to cancel them in some cases.
And that is because the water is not safe. If
you take a look here behind me.
Speaker 3 (10:33):
This is just one I can't It's radio.
Speaker 9 (10:35):
A station that is open around the clock for residents
who need to clean water as this whole ordeal is
going on right now. Hundreds of people in the Pierpont
neighborhood of Ventura are without clean water right now. The
city says that gasoline was detected in the water supply,
with the impact area estimated to be from San Pedro
to Peninsula Street.
Speaker 3 (10:56):
Wow.
Speaker 9 (10:57):
That means tap water cannot be used for drinking, cooking, showering, irrigation,
or even for just washing your hands.
Speaker 2 (11:05):
Yeah, you can't even boil it, right, I mean, if
you've got bacteria in the water, they give you a
boil water water you you can't boil the gasoline out.
And I know what you're thinking, because I thought it too.
You're trying to light it on fire. Doesn't work because
the concentration isn't high enough. It's not lake Erie. But
good thinking.
Speaker 10 (11:26):
Everything's canceled. We had two couples coming for three days
and they invited us down to their place, but no,
we need to stay here and see what's going on.
So that's our Thanksgiving.
Speaker 9 (11:41):
Oooh, well, there you go. Some people are going to
have to cancel their Thanksgiving all together. The city says. Boiling, freezing, filtering,
or trying to treat the water yourself simply is not safe.
Speaker 3 (11:53):
Ooh see, I'm smart, I'm like the officials.
Speaker 9 (11:56):
I knew that free drinking water is available. One option
is at the city maintenance yard on San John Road
that's open at twenty four hours. You can also head
to Marina Park off Pierpont Boulevard, but note that location
is only open from eight am to five pm.
Speaker 2 (12:12):
Wait a minute, it was eight am to five pm.
Five and seven is after fun. Oh it's closed, so.
Speaker 9 (12:19):
As they come back out here live. This is a
location at the City Maine in yard. And again you
can see there's plenty of water available for us.
Speaker 3 (12:26):
Again, I can't radio anybody who needs it.
Speaker 9 (12:28):
You can swing by anytime, come pick it up. The
employee who's here is very friendly. And again the city
is doing what they can't help. They say they are
trying to treat the water and put it through testing
to see when it is clear. But right now there
is no timeline on what exactly that may happen. So
for now, drinking the water in this area again not safe.
Speaker 3 (12:47):
Not safe.
Speaker 9 (12:47):
Leven Venture Accounting moon't got on that.
Speaker 6 (12:49):
ABC seven Eyewitness News, thank.
Speaker 3 (12:51):
You, we appreciate the report. Well done. How happy? How friendly.
Speaker 2 (12:55):
Do you think the guy's going to be by the
end of the night with a lot of people coming by,
all mad because they have to get water to ruin
their Thanksgiving?
Speaker 3 (13:02):
Oh God bless them.
Speaker 2 (13:04):
You think that's there's one of two people that they
stick in a situation like that. It's either near upper management,
not the top dog. Top dog never has to do
that kind of stuff. But they'll say, well, we need
somebody here with authority that's a figurehead so that the
publicans sy that we're serious. Or it's an intern. It's
one or the other. It's either the intern is like, look,
(13:25):
this is just work. You're just gonna have to stand
here and just help people get water, or it's like, look,
I'm the deputy director of water sewer Contamination process Filtering,
and I'm here because I need you guys to know
we are on this.
Speaker 3 (13:39):
It's one or the other. One or the other is
there as for you, Hopefully.
Speaker 2 (13:44):
Your Thanksgiving plans are well under way or whatever your
plans are, you have, you know, you got good stuff
in front of you. Even if it is like me
just spending time alone, not exactly alone. I just talked
to my son today, said he doesn't think he's gonna
go do a friends giving. So this is my son
and I tomorrow, so that'll be nice. He's not gonna
spend a lot of time with me because I'm gona
(14:05):
watch football and he does not like the sports.
Speaker 3 (14:07):
So that's happening.
Speaker 2 (14:09):
But beyond Thanksgiving, you've got Black Friday, You've got small
Business Saturday, You've got Sunday, then you've got Cyber Monday,
and then you've got Giving Tuesday, and I'm Giving Tuesday.
You can join us at the Anaheim White House. We're
gonna be broadcasting all day long. By we, I mean
the A teams are going to be there from five
am until eight pm, and then I'll take over here
(14:30):
back back at the home base for the fifteenth Annuel
KFI Pastathon, Chef Bruno's charity, Katerina's Club, providing more than
twenty five thousand meals every week to kids in needing
southern California, and it's because of your generosity that we
can make that happen, and we just want to thank
the dickens.
Speaker 3 (14:45):
Out of you.
Speaker 2 (14:47):
You can donate anytime I go into KFI AM six
to forty dot com Slash Pastathon one hund Doho. Percent
of your donation is gonna go to Katerina's Club, and
remember when you're there. You can also bid on auction items.
Auctions are opened through ten pm on Giving Tuesday, and
I happen to see you can do a private backyard
barbecue with Bill and Lindsay Handle and Neil Savadra is
(15:08):
going to be there too, which is good because Neil
can cook.
Speaker 3 (15:13):
Bill.
Speaker 2 (15:14):
Probably not, probably not, but you can find out if
Bill is in fact as much a curmudgeon in real
life as he plays on the radio. So that's happening.
I would bid on that. That's a good one. Bill's
a lot of fun to be around. If I'm being honest,
He's a heck of a lot of fun. Or how
about this Dodgers game with Gary and Shannon. Oh, that
(15:35):
sounds fun too. I ever tell you the first time
I met Gary marked it everything's you did not, so
I'm doing that. I think it was. In fact, I've
got I still have the lanyard from it. It was
hacked to the future. It was when they did that,
you know, on a Bill had been with the station
for twenty twenty five years, whatever it was, and so
they did this live event and Gary and Bill were
(15:58):
kind of you know, seeing acting all this stuff. It
was a really great event that they did. And I
genuinely have the Landyards sitting right next to my right
next to my microphone here.
Speaker 3 (16:07):
I love it.
Speaker 2 (16:08):
And afterward, the program director at the time, Robin, she
invited me to come back and kind of meet some
of the people that were, you know, the staff, and
I'd been doing a little bit of fillin work here
and there, and Gary could now have been more gracious.
And I thought, this is one of the most genuine
kind people in radio. And he hadn't had his own
show at that point, he was still doing news, and
I just thought, this is one of those guys that
(16:30):
you're just like, I want to be his friend. So
this is your chance. You can give money to be
Gary's friend at a Dodgers game.
Speaker 3 (16:39):
I would. I think it's worth.
Speaker 2 (16:41):
It, all of it, all right still to come. You
already know dinner is a trap. You know that someone
at the table is about to say that one thing
that ruins your knight. You think you're ready, but the
problem is sitting right next to you, staring in her
face and criticizing the way you look. Your holiday survival Guide. Next,
I'm Chris maryl KFI AM six fours live everywhere on
the iHeart Radio app.
Speaker 1 (17:02):
You're listening to KFI AM six forty on demand.
Speaker 2 (17:07):
Or Stimulating Talk Listen anytime on demand and the iHeartRadio app.
We were talking about the people there Ventura County, dealing
with gasoline in their water, and I told you, guys,
you send me talkbacks. They don't all make it under
the air, but I do read every single one of them,
or I'd listened to every single one of them, including Steve.
Speaker 11 (17:24):
Fox eleven News is reporting that it was a false
positive test on the water in Ventura County and the
water restriction has been lifted. There's no problem with the
water with gasoline. Oh, Ventura County. Oh, I was on
Fox eleven News.
Speaker 3 (17:40):
All right, well, let me see, let's see if I
can find what Fox eleven News has here. Let me see, false.
Speaker 4 (17:45):
Alarm is what they're saying. It was a false reading
is how they're explaining it. Would keep in mind, right,
this came out yesterday and since then lots of businesses
were closed.
Speaker 3 (17:54):
Now that, for.
Speaker 4 (17:55):
Example, on my left here, they were able to reopen
the Starbucks here. They never were able to reopen. Many
other businesses were not.
Speaker 2 (18:02):
Yeah, because I don't. I don't think that they serve
like a mid grade latte, do they. I don't think
that they have a ninety one octane lat That's not
the thing.
Speaker 4 (18:13):
And then there were the people who had to change
their Thanksgiving plans. Let's take you through what this was
has been like.
Speaker 3 (18:21):
For Okay, no, no, I already know it was. It was.
Speaker 2 (18:23):
It was hell because of a false reading, I guess. Okay, Well,
thank you very much. I appreciate the update obviously that
that came through after I had already added that to
the show for tonight.
Speaker 3 (18:32):
So I do appreciate you correcting me. Thank you, thank you,
thank you.
Speaker 2 (18:35):
I want to make sure the info is accurate, all right,
So you're getting ready for your Thanksgiving dinner, right. The
problem is, and I don't know, my wife has the
same issue. And I love my wife to death, but
she's nuts and she has this thing, this thing where
everything has to be some sort of a Norman rock
Well holiday.
Speaker 3 (18:52):
Everything's got to be Norman Rockwell holiday.
Speaker 2 (18:55):
The truth is there's no such thing, right, Because family's
family is there are a group of very different people
who are sort of beholden to be together. Some families
are closer, some families aren't. Some families are too much alike,
and it's just miserable looking in the mirror.
Speaker 3 (19:12):
Believe me, I know it. So there was a survey
that was talking.
Speaker 2 (19:16):
About what people don't want to talk about when they're
at the when they're at the Thanksgiving dinner, and so
here it is, what is the one question that you
don't want to be asked this holiday season? What mark
do you do? You do family stuff on the holidays?
Are you just it's been quite.
Speaker 5 (19:35):
Some time, my family is long gone, and oh I'm sorry,
Oh no, no, no, it's just life, you know. Yeah, but
I recall I recall there being some calm years and
some strife years.
Speaker 2 (19:47):
What was it? Because my grandmother always, my grandmother was
very blunt, and so my grandmother would go, oh you're
getting fat, Like thanks, grandma, I appreciate.
Speaker 3 (20:00):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (20:00):
Yeah, I I grew up with my grandparents and they
were similarly blunt.
Speaker 3 (20:05):
Okay, yeah, so this you grow to like that though.
The one thing.
Speaker 2 (20:10):
Well, I I gotta tell you, I miss my grandma,
But I don't miss that.
Speaker 3 (20:15):
I don't I don't miss her.
Speaker 2 (20:17):
She was, And honestly, there's a little bit of as
I'm getting older and I'm recognizing more of my father
in myself, I'm seeing more of his mother in him.
Does that make sense? Like I see like my dad
is some of this, like why why are you tapping
your fingernails on the counter?
Speaker 3 (20:33):
Don't do that? What's the matter with you? Making me homesick? Yeah?
Speaker 2 (20:37):
Well, and I'm like, oh that most that one hundred
percent came from his mother when he was little. He
must have been doing something that annoyed her and she
was like, not that off, and then you know, that's
just what he does.
Speaker 3 (20:47):
So questions people do want here, do you have a girlfriend?
I did? I go back from college, and it's like, so,
what's going on with the girlfriend? And stop? Stop?
Speaker 2 (20:56):
You know I want to deal with it or boyfriend. Obviously,
the second most most hated thing is so when are
you going to lose those holiday pounds?
Speaker 11 (21:08):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (21:08):
And that's nicer than my grandmother. She would just go, well,
you're getting fat.
Speaker 3 (21:13):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (21:13):
Anything related to your personal appearance is always fun.
Speaker 2 (21:17):
What did you do to your hair? Who did you
vote for? Why won't why won't you go to church
with us? I love that, how's.
Speaker 3 (21:25):
Your diet going? When are you gonna get married and
have kids? Why did you get those tattoos? You know
that that's not actually on.
Speaker 2 (21:32):
The list, No kidding, Well, yeah, but you look like
a Carnie, so I will.
Speaker 3 (21:42):
This is this is odd.
Speaker 2 (21:45):
I'm reading this from the New York Post and it says,
what's what's the one question you do want to be
asked this holiday season? And here are the answers that
people said. The most awkward answers on this there's how
are you doing financially? The other things that I talked about,
how come you can't do you don't come to visit?
Why don't you join an online dating site?
Speaker 3 (22:00):
But then how about this one? How's your transition going? Oh?
Is that?
Speaker 2 (22:06):
I mean one hundred percent? That would be awkward at
the Thanksgiving Day table? But is that so prevalent that
it's coming up often enough to make a national list
of awkward questions?
Speaker 4 (22:15):
It's kind of nice.
Speaker 3 (22:16):
It's inclusive to ask that I'd mentioned, Well.
Speaker 5 (22:19):
You want to confirmed that that's the case, though before
you ask me. It's kind of like asking a lady
when when you do yeah, okay, and then they say
they're not and then where do you go.
Speaker 2 (22:29):
Okay, I got to I'm going to take a quick
aside here and then we got to get the break
and we'll do we'll do a little bit more of
the Shenanigans. So in my office, two women are pregnant,
and one of them I was. I have good relationship
with both of them. One of them was just we
were shooting the breeze one day and she said how
she wasn't feeling very well. This was in the summer,
(22:49):
and I go, oh, yeah, maybe you're pregnant. And she's like,
I'm not pregnant.
Speaker 3 (22:54):
You know.
Speaker 2 (22:54):
She came to me about a month ago, and she goes, okay,
I have to tell you that she closed the door.
She says, remember when we were joking around, No, i'd
mess with you enough. I don't really recall. She says, well,
I wasn't feeling wene, and you said maybe I was pregnant,
and I was like, no, I'm not. And then I
got to thinking about it and I thought, oh no,
and I went and took a test and I am.
And I was like, wow, well, congratulations, that's wonderful, right.
I really like her and and the baby daddy.
Speaker 3 (23:17):
I guess.
Speaker 2 (23:17):
So I'm super excited for them. One of the bosses
is pregnant, and I had been noticing some changes, but
as you mentioned Mark, Nope, nope. So i'd noticed some
changes and one of the other women who works on
her team, she said something about, well, you know Aaron's
(23:38):
Aaron's pregnant, and I went.
Speaker 3 (23:39):
Oh, she is.
Speaker 2 (23:40):
She says, yeah, you didn't know, and I go, I go,
I mean, I you know. She goes, well, do you
think she was just getting fat? And I then and
I go, I don't make that mistake. That's when you
go full sergeant Schultz.
Speaker 3 (23:55):
You know nothing?
Speaker 2 (23:56):
You know, I see nothing I did. I don't make
that mistake. She just come on, you didn't know. I
don't make that mistake. That is not a mistake. Dude's
better for me to just play dumb than to make
that mistake because there's no coming back from it. So Nope,
I'm so happy for her. I'm delighted, but I'm not
(24:19):
making the mistake of assuming one.
Speaker 3 (24:21):
Way or the other ain't happening.
Speaker 9 (24:23):
No.
Speaker 5 (24:23):
In fact, instead of nope, to shut nine.
Speaker 3 (24:27):
I see nothing, I hear nothing. All right.
Speaker 2 (24:30):
The deal that you're unting for in black Friday is
probably more hype than it is saving the real winners.
Is Black Friday are ranked? Your story is on the
losing side. I'll tell you where you should or should
not be shopping. That is next Chris merrilf I am

You're listening to KFI AM six forty on demand.
Speaker 2 (24:52):
I'm Chris Merrill. I hope you're a holiday festivities are
off to a fantastic start. Well, we're gonna talk in
just a moment about how the whole world is getting
dumber and scientists aren't exactly sure why, but they have
some theories, and I know you probably have your own theories.
They'll find out if you're thinking the same way that
they are. In the meantime, for some of you, you
(25:16):
think back, it's been a while, I think since we
had to do doorbusters where we actually got up and
went out and parked at two o'clock in the morning
and then sat in front of a closed store until
they opened at four am. Been a while since we've
done that. But that doesn't mean we have stopped shopping
on Black Friday. But are you shopping smart? From Good
Morning America.
Speaker 12 (25:37):
Brands recruiting familiar characters this season, hoping nostalgia will sell
from Walmarts, Walton Goggins, Grinchmiss to the return of targets.
Speaker 3 (25:45):
Hot Santa. I just had to put something on the
nauty list on.
Speaker 2 (25:47):
That Have you seen the Hot Santa commercial? It is
so I think it's hilarious. So Santa's on a date
and then Santa gets cold or something of the sort,
and he's got his list in front of me. He goes, oh,
I've got to put someone on the naughty list. And
the girl is flirting heavy and she goes, how do
(26:08):
you get put on that list?
Speaker 3 (26:09):
And he's like, what, Why would you want to be
on that list? She says, no, I don't. I don't.
I don't want to be on that list. I thought
it was really funny. It's all those familiar favorites.
Speaker 12 (26:18):
One new topic has dominated this year's Black Friday conversation.
Speaker 9 (26:22):
Where are we going to be with tariffs in the
next week or in the next two weeks?
Speaker 3 (26:28):
A little late for that.
Speaker 2 (26:29):
If you're shopping today, we're not worried about the tariffs
in the next week or two weeks.
Speaker 6 (26:33):
That's really going to determine how we see prices of
products out on the store shelves.
Speaker 12 (26:38):
No, I'm already seeing them for anybody hoping to snag
a deal in the face of those higher prices. You
don't have to wait until Friday.
Speaker 2 (26:46):
Yeah, I know, I've been looking at like Amazon's been
doing stuff for forever.
Speaker 3 (26:51):
What it was it?
Speaker 2 (26:52):
The is that twelve days of Christmas on Amazon or
twelve days of Thanksgiving?
Speaker 3 (26:58):
My name is something like that.
Speaker 2 (26:59):
Somebody got the twelve day I don't know what it is.
I did see who's got the best deals, and so Mike,
I do a lot of shopping on Amazon. I also
love Timu. I know, I know you're support the Chinese
Communist Party. Whatever, it's cheap. So if you are shopping
(27:19):
on Black Friday, wallet Hub did a survey and fund
of Amazon sales are not that great. The average discount
from Amazon is just shy of thirty percent, about the
same as Target. Walmart is slightly below that twenty nine percent.
Best Buy is right in there at twenty nine percent
as well. So if you're looking for electronics, you know
(27:40):
then they may not be as good a deal as
you want. Walmart electronics are specifically a little bit better
than the twenty nine percent average that they have for
all of their different products. But the place that has
got the best discount by retailer, although I think this
is a bit of a direct, is J C Penny
(28:03):
because remember J C Penny always does the one we're
having ninety percent off sales and when you come.
Speaker 3 (28:08):
In, you're gonna get you're gonna get ninety percent off.
Speaker 2 (28:10):
And and then you remember when when JAC Penny was
running into some some troubles, and so they changed their
entire model and they said, Okay, we're not gonna do
this whole come in and you get seventy percent off.
You come in now and you're gonna get sixty percent
off refill on these products or whatever. And they said,
you know what, We're just gonna give you the lowest
price every day, basically the Walmart model, right, And.
Speaker 3 (28:32):
So jac Penny said that's what we're gonna do. And
everybody went, what you're taking our deals away. You can't
do this to us. Then there was a coup and
people got very upset at j C.
Speaker 2 (28:42):
Penny and they said, you've taken away my feeling that
I'm getting a deal. Now if you actually wighed how
much am I paying might have been the exact same amount,
but it doesn't matter because psychologically we feel like we're
getting a deal. So when I see at hub doing
an average discount by retailer, and jac Penny is far
(29:04):
and away ahead of everyone else again this year, in fact,
I think they've been the number one discounted retailer. Let
me see, I'm stretching back based on wallet hub surveys
back to twenty twenty one. Macy's was slightly cheaper in
twenty twenty one. I had a slightly better deals nine,
But it's it's jac Penny and it's all because they
have those seventy percent off discounts or whatever.
Speaker 3 (29:26):
But that's just kind of their model.
Speaker 2 (29:27):
So I think it's a bit of a misdirect Coles
and Macy's do sort of this, you know, similar things,
but they also they're in it, just shy of fifty
percent of the.
Speaker 3 (29:36):
Average discount on their goods here for the holiday.
Speaker 2 (29:40):
Truth is, you're you're gonna get You're gonna get roughly
the same amount of discount this year as you did
last year, as you did the year before. Now, who
is actually at the bottom of the list according to
wallet hub Costco. Well, that's because Costco has already got
low prices. How could they possibly discount them anymore?
Speaker 3 (29:57):
You can't. What are you gonna do? Tell me, I
have to buy.
Speaker 2 (30:00):
More batteries in bulk, more mattresses in bulk.
Speaker 3 (30:06):
Go to Costco.
Speaker 2 (30:07):
You get yourself a mattress, but you have to buy
six the real pain. All right, You've got a smartphone
in your pocket, You've got endless WiFi, but your IQ
is taking a nosedive and the drop is happening while
you're still scrolling. Weirdly, science says, it's not necessarily the
tech that's making us dumb.
Speaker 3 (30:24):
You'll find out what is making us stupid or next.
