Speaker 1 (00:00):
Now we are going to switch gears a little bit
and talk about one of my favorite topics with one
of the coolest people I know. Apple just wrapped up
its annual Worldwide Developers conference, and Meta is changing how
it personalizes your feed and AI tools. Joining us now
is rich Jamiro from rich on Tech.
Speaker 2 (00:17):
Good morning, Rich, Good morning Heather.
Speaker 1 (00:21):
Are you and Coopertine?
Speaker 2 (00:22):
You had a kind bar?
Speaker 1 (00:23):
Oh, you had a kind bar?
Speaker 2 (00:24):
Going back? I am back. Yeah. Flew in last night
forty eight hours whirlwind up in Coopertino and we did
get to see the new Siri AI that's been promised
to us. I got to play with it and it's
actually pretty good. So you will now be able to
once iOS twenty seven comes out and or the beta
(00:46):
of Siri, which they still haven't given us an exact date,
you'll be able to use Siri now to kind of
search through all of this stuff on your phone, whether
someone texted you a book recommendation, someone emailed you their address,
or your just asking questions about the world at large.
You can now do all of that stuff similar to
what you can do on CHATCHYBT in Gemini, but it's
(01:07):
all done in a very private way.
Speaker 1 (01:09):
Apple promises, you know what I want Siri to do
when I'm driving in my car. Sometimes I come up
with questions a lot, and I will say I want
to be able to ask Siri to answer questions for
me or explain something to me, like while I'm driving
in my car, and it won't do it.
Speaker 2 (01:26):
You'll be able to do that now, will you'll be
able to do that? Yes, because the same Ai SII
is now available across the watch, which is huge because
right now, if you ask Siri anything on your watch,
it's like, let me search the web for that. You're like, no,
I actually just wanted an answer, and so that will happen.
The car play will happen. It's basically a version of
(01:49):
CHATCHYBT that kind of integrates all of your information plus
information about the world. Like Apple went out and like
scoured the world information kind of like what Google does,
except built their own index because they want to keep
everything private, and so no matter what you're doing, whether
you're asking for the best place to go in Hawaii
for kids or asking what your friend's addresses, it will
(02:10):
give you all that information instantly.
Speaker 1 (02:13):
That is so cool. Yeah, because right now, whenever I
ask Syria question if it doesn't know, it'll say can
I check chatchibt for that or something like that, and
I'm always like, yeah, I guess I'll allow it, all right.
So would you say that that's like the one iOS
feature iOS twenty seven feature that everybody is going to
(02:35):
notice and appreciate the most, or is there other features
we should be on the lookout for.
Speaker 2 (02:40):
I think that's definitely the biggest feature. Liquid glass. You know,
there's a lot of controversy whether people loved it or
hated it. So you're getting a full on slider now
where you can basically make the glass completely transparent some
people like that or completely opaque. I hate that word
because nobody ever uses it, but I don't know how
to non see through. I guess you can say phones
are going to feel faster. They really kind of went
(03:03):
back to the drawing board to make phones iPhones feel
as fast as possible. So apps are going to launch faster,
photos are going to load quicker, airdrop transfers up to
eighty percent faster, better dictation, better screen time controls for
your kids. There's two new settings where you can literally
tap pause and pause your kids entire device, or you
(03:24):
can tap, like if you get on the airplane, you
want to give them unlimited time for the day, there's
a new tap for that. Let's see what else. Oh
and this is all going to work all the way
back to the iPhone eleven. So basically that's pretty incredible
to have a phone that's that old and still getting
the most modern software.
Speaker 1 (03:41):
Yeah, that's amazing. All right, So let's talk about Meta.
How they're expanding how they use information from businesses to personalized,
personalized fees and AI tools. What exactly is changing and
should we be concerned about privacy?
Speaker 2 (03:56):
One hundred percent this is the creepiest thing I've ever
seen in my life. Doing the research on this story
this morning, I cannot believe the amount of information that
is being passed to meta technologies from what I do
on the internet. So Rich on tech dot TV, you
got to take a look at this blog post I
just put up because Peacock, you know, like the TV
(04:17):
streaming service. They sent eighty one interactions about what we
do in our house with Peacock to Meta. Why so
that they can serve you up ads on meta but
not just ads. This is the big change. They've always
been doing that right, If you look at a pair
of sneakers online, all of a sudden, you start seeing
those sneakers advertise on your Facebook feed. What they're doing
(04:38):
now is taking all the information that businesses are sending them,
and every website is sending them information about what you
do basically, and using that for your feed. Now. So
let's say you check out a hotel in Wyoming that
looks really cool. You may see that hotel pop up
on your Instagram feed as a suggested post, and all
of a sudden, Oh, I really I want to stay there.
(05:00):
It's not an ad, it's just suggested content. Now, so
this is a whole other level of personalization that is
kind of creepy if you think about it.
Speaker 1 (05:09):
I already have started seeing that happening just in recent weeks,
because I've been researching like summer vacation spots and specific
resorts and specific locations are now popping up in my feed,
and I thought, that's really strange. But then I also
know that our phones are kind of collecting all this
data about us. Are they? This is gonna sound crazy,
(05:30):
but like I always wonder how much of this data?
How are they able to get? It is it truly
just based off of what we're searching on Google? Is
it based off of what we're watching on tv? Is
everything so integrated that nothing is safe now?
Speaker 2 (05:47):
All the above, Like I bought a pair of sneakers
off Nike dot com the other day and that sure
enough showed up in my recent activity. You can go
on to the website, or you can go on to
the Facebook or Instagram and Facebook app and look up
your activity, which is where I did this morning. I
open it, my jaw literally dropped. Every single website that
I visited is just listed there and it says, here's
how many interactions they've sent. And so again it's I
(06:10):
mean redfinn I looked at seven houses, it tells me,
so I mean that on June fifth, not moving, by
the way, way too expensive to move in this city.
So yeah, this is scary stuff. I think it's very creepy.
Some people may like it because you may say, oh, well,
my feed is now more personalized to the stuff that's
of interest to me. But the good news is you
(06:31):
have the option to turn this off if you want.
So I put all those directions on my website. Rich
on tech dot tv, I mean, you know, it's just
you know that this stuff is happening. It's just to
see it all in a list. You're like, Oh, it's
really happening. But yes, to answer your question, sorry, I
meant to answer that. There's what's called a meta pixel
on every website that's a tiny tracker in the background
(06:54):
that when you visit, there goes oh Rich is visiting.
Let's send an information to meta Wow.
Speaker 1 (06:59):
Okay, really quickly before I have to let you go,
let's talk about the AI powered travel tool for hotel
suites and lower rates, especially because it's vacation time. Tell
me where I can get some deals.
Speaker 2 (07:10):
Yeah. I know about you, but we love getting like
a suite when we travel because it's a nice, big
room for all the family to stay in one instead
of booking two rooms or being on top of each
other in a tiny room. And there's not really a
good way of doing that. And a guy on my
radio show talked about this website called gondola dot ai
and not only do they search hotels, you can search
(07:31):
every suite in America. That's really cool. They also track prices,
so if you book a hotel room and the price drops,
they can help you get a refund same thing. They
can help you maximize your points. They can track your
airfare so Gondola dot AI. I always am on the
lookout for like cool, useful new websites. Heather, you may
use this for your summer travel.
Speaker 1 (07:51):
I just pulled it up. I'm going to be looking
at it right now. Rich, Thank you so much. You
always have such wonderful, helpful information. Everybody. Check out Rich
on Tech every Saturday from eleven to two here on KFI.

Speaker 2 (08:11):
All right, thanks Heather, have a great day you too,
