KTLA's tech reporter Rich Didmurow.

We got some new phones coming Samsung and Google.

So what are they? Are they worth it? And how
do they stack up to Apple products?

Yeah, well we are just learning. So this is the
slide into the holidays. I know it's early, but yes,
this is what's happening.
Speaker 3 (00:27):
That's even early for me.
Speaker 2 (00:29):
I know, I know, but this is the thing in
the tech world. You know, this is when people buy
their new phones. They're probably all going to be more
expensive this year, just so you know. So it's going
to be very interesting to see how the tech companies
position their new phones because I'm guessing they're all going
to be more expensive. And I'm also guessing ninety nine
percent of people listening are saying the phone in my
pocket is just fine. Give me a reason upgrade. I
(00:50):
can't even think of one. So that's what they're up against.
But we've got Samsung officially announcing their next event July
twenty second in London. This is when they're focusing on
their foldables, So we're looking at the you know, just
the foldable phones they come out with, along with new
watches and possibly a preview of their new smart glasses
with Gemini AI. Then we've got that's July twenty second.
(01:15):
Then August twelfth in New York City, Google will unveil
its latest pixels. We're up to the Pixel eleven. There.
They also have a foldable new Pixel watch. Obviously they'll
have some fun new AI features, I'm sure. And so
those are the two events that set us up for
the summer. Then, of course the big event is in September.
We do not know the date of that just yet,

but that is when Apple is expected to unveil the
iPhone eighteen as well as potentially they're foldable for the
very first time.
Speaker 1 (01:45):
So it'll be interesting to see if if Apple has
cracked the foldable code.
Speaker 2 (01:52):
Yeah. Bottom line is you probably don't want to buy
any foldable phone until, which is tough. For see, this
is the tough part. Sam Sung in Google want to
wow you, to say like, oh my gosh, let me
get that. But then you've got this Apple thing lingering
the background. That's a rumor. We don't even know if
it's going to happen. But if you bought the Samsung
or the or the Pixel and you're like, oh no,
I kind of want the Apple one. So my advice
(02:14):
would be if you're getting if you're thinking about getting
a foldable, which I know that's like one percent of
people in this world, wait until September when Apple potentially
announces THEIRS.
Speaker 1 (02:23):
Okay, yeah, I was gonna say, I don't think I
know anybody who actually has a foldable phone, and you don't.
Speaker 2 (02:31):
See I would say I I I definitely have been
seeing more, especially around the world, and you know, it's
just I'm definitely seeing more of them. I don't think
it's a very popular thing just yet, but I am
definitely seeing more for sure, people that are out and
about on the road all day, traveling airports, I definitely
see more.
Speaker 1 (02:50):
Really, because I was just in a bunch of airports
and I didn't even see one. Of course I wasn't
looking for it wasn't on my radar.
Speaker 2 (02:55):
Probably, Oh I am. I could I could give you
like a book report on every phone I see in
any given day. I'm like, oh, okay, that person has
that phone. An interesting I look for these things.

Of course you do that's why you're the tech guy.

Okay, let's talk about Meta and it's new AI image
and video generation tool.
Speaker 2 (03:15):
Okay, this is so wild amy, you are not going
to believe it. And it's there's actually a lesson here
for all of us. So I've been playing with this
all morning. It's called muse it's really powerful. It basically
they cooked this up themselves, so they came up with
their own brand new image generation program, Muse AI. It's
going to be available inside Instagram Stories. If you have

the standalone Meta AI app like I do. It's inside
there right now. And here is the wild feature. You
can tag someone and now you can make a picture
with them in it. So I just sent a picture
to my sister of her riding a horse. I sent
a picture to my other sister, she's a big gym
person in the gym, and they're like, wait, that's really cool.
(03:58):
But also hold on wait what you could use my
picture to make these? So if your account is public, yes,
anyone can now use your images to make a wild
AI image of you. If you don't like this, you
can turn it off in your settings. The setting, of
course is buried. I'm going to put that on my
Instagram as soon as I can record this video to
explain where to find that. But basically, you go into
(04:19):
your settings and look for the sharing and reuse option
and you can turn that off.
Speaker 3 (04:24):
Okay, so but they can.
Speaker 1 (04:25):
I mean, because I've seen so many videos like I
and on Instagram, I think everything is fake now, like
ninety percent of it. Yeah, but you know, like seeing
some of the political ones, which it looks like those
people are sure, you know, I mean, they don't have
permission to use their images, but they still do.
Speaker 2 (04:45):
This is yes, this could all be done before, but
now Instagram is putting this in the hands of every
consumer that has Instagram or Facebook instantly. And by the way,
you don't have to pop in a reference image. You
just tag them and it goes to their account, looks
at their images, and you know, creates a new one.
So yes, I get it. We are so desensitized to
(05:08):
this stuff because we're like, okay, sure, another image creation,
but this one is like, okay, You're just letting us
do this even easier than before in any public account.
So if you have a famous actor or someone that
you like, you can just tag them and you know,
make a any picture of them somehow, And yes, these
are things you could do before, but now it's much easier.

Okay, And I you know, I do love my uh
my wireless earbuds. And there's there's some new ones out
that have a cool feature.
Speaker 2 (05:37):
Yeah. This is from a company called Nothing. I really
like what they do. They may make cool phones and
things and wireless successories, all at a good price, and
their earbuds are usually very good. So they have a
new set called the Ear three A. These are wireless
earbuds that cost ninety nine dollars. They've got all the
main features like good battery life and noise cancelation. But
they have this new feature called audio Snapshot, and to me,
(05:59):
it's kind of like a tvo or maybe like a
dash cam for your ears. So the earbuds are basically
constantly recording, like an audio buffer. So anything that you
hear that you think is worth saving, you just pinch
the earbuds and it captures what that person just said
and then another thirty seconds of what you heard. So

it actually almost like goes back in time a little bit.
And so if someone says, like, hey, this is a
great restaurant, you're listening to a podcast, the radio, whatever.
You can automatically record that stuff. I already do this
with my watch. It's not always recording, but I kind
of do the same thing. But having this in your
earbuds if you're always wearing them is kind of a
neat feature.
