Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening to Bill Handle on demand from kf I
am six forty and now Handle on the news.
Speaker 2 (00:16):
Ladies and gentlemen, here's Bill Handle. It is a Thursday,
July the ninth, and today is July the ninth. I
don't know what day it is. Is it National Hamburger Day?
Speaker 3 (00:39):
Is it.
Speaker 2 (00:41):
National STD Day? I have no idea National Video Game Day?
Is it?
Speaker 4 (00:47):
It was yesterday?
Speaker 2 (00:48):
Okay? I love national days, just love them. You know,
real national days are an act of Congress. I don't
know if you knew that there Congress defined someone comes
up and goes, you know, National Yellow Paint Day, and
you have a congress person that introduces that into Congress,
(01:10):
and it goes on the consent calendar, which means at
a certain point that they do this once in a while,
they just someone reads off the introduction of these days
and by a voice, a voice vote yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
and it goes. And I was I was doing a
commercial for some legal firm years and years ago, and
(01:35):
they did wills and trusts, et cetera, and it was
National Make a Will Day. And I questioned it, and
I said, National Make a Will Day? Really? Is that
an official holiday?
Speaker 4 (01:51):
Now?
Speaker 2 (01:51):
We made it up. Okay, so we're going to have
what National Film Alter your House Day is today? No,
today's dimples, Today's National Dimples Day. And sugar cookies National
Sugar Cookie Day seriously yep? Okay, and then dimples correct,
(02:15):
but not pimples no oh. National pimple Day would be
great on your cheeks or National Circumcision Day would be
fantastic and uh well, okay. National Circumcision Day would also
include uh tips for how to do it? Okay, thank
(02:41):
you very much, ladies and gentlemen. Oh okay, and good morning,
Ann good morning there you are, and Neil hello, hello? Okay,
Will is over there, good morning, good morning, and Cono
good morning.
Speaker 4 (02:59):
It's also National Farriers Week.
Speaker 2 (03:02):
Wow Ferriers Week? Now? Hang on is it?
Speaker 1 (03:05):
Ye oh? Oh?
Speaker 2 (03:07):
I thought it was okay for not furriers and not
a holiday that is celebrated okay, and not and not
celebrated in West Hollywood. Uh is it? It's all very confusing.
It can be, it can be, Okay, I'm telling you,
(03:28):
it's wonderful how many days there are. There's only three
hundred and sixty five days, and there are thousands, if
not tens of thousands of well It's National Hamburger Day.
Neil always comes up with the food right national Uh,
what Listeria Day? We can go through a lot of diseases.
Speaker 4 (03:47):
July is National hot dog month. Huh huh, whole month
for the wiener. Okay, National Chipotle Burrito Day. In your
order with or without? Well, let's go. They had an
e Cooi situation going on for a while and it was.
Speaker 2 (04:10):
Well they did. That was news. It was news. Okay,
let me see what else is going on? No, not much,
not much. At dinner with my daughter last night at
Stonefire Grill, of course you did, do you bet? I did? Yeah?
Speaker 3 (04:33):
I know.
Speaker 2 (04:34):
I got a couple of gift certificates, and tonight I'm
having dinner with my other daughter and we're going to
make it a little bit different Stonefire Grill again. Yeah,
that's a neat gift, A gift certificate for Stonefire Grill.
Speaker 4 (04:51):
Thanks for way to to kill the stereotypes there, buddy.
Speaker 2 (04:56):
Yeah, yeah, all right, guys, are you ready to do it?
On this Thursday morning? It is time? Amy? Did I
say good morning to you?
Speaker 3 (05:04):
No?
Speaker 2 (05:05):
Oh god, Because it goes to show how high on
the food chain you are.
Speaker 3 (05:10):
I realized my place.
Speaker 2 (05:14):
Yeah, yes, yes you do. Okay. Rich was running around
down there and he goes, oh, okay, today I'm in
studio and he said, oh, it's nice to see you
this morning. I said, yes, it is nice to see
me and just walks down the hall. Gracious, I am
very Okay, let's do it, guys. Time for handle on
(05:35):
the news, Amy Neil and me lead story. I mean, well,
the ceasefire between the US in Iran has reached a
new level of ceaselessness in that the attacks are going
back and forth and the US intensifying strikes against Iran,
(05:57):
and the President is getting really pissed off. But here
is the problem is that the administration, particularly Donald Trump,
doesn't really get the way Iran works. Iran plays the
long game, Iran pretends to negotiate, really giving nothing up.
(06:18):
And if you look at Iran the Strait of Horror moves,
they're still saying that they control the Strait of Hormuz,
and they keep in mind the Straight of Horror Moves
was an open international waterway prior to the war. And
as far as the nuclear program is concerned, they're enriched
Irun and radio program. Nothing has been agreed to. Zero
(06:41):
has been agreed to, except the sanctions against Iran were
lifted for a period of time and they could sell oil,
which they wouldn't be able to do before. Tell me
who's winning this one.
Speaker 3 (06:56):
Okay, the campaign in Maine falls mainly on the plane.
Oh wait, that's a different one. Graham Platner, Democrats were
hoping he could flip a critical US Senate seat in Maine,
ended his campaign. He announced it on x after a
woman he had dated off and on accused him of
(07:19):
raping her like five years ago. He said on his
ex speech, we believe that for the moment or the
movement to continue, it can't be me, and for that reason,
we're suspending campaign operations. Democratic Party leaders now have until
July twenty seventh to decide on who will be the
new candidate.
Speaker 2 (07:39):
Yeah, I'm going to do this at seven o'clock. And
one of one of the points that I'm going to
make is that the Platner campaign had asked for the
women that he had raped to endorse him, and they
just couldn't. He just couldn't get it. By the way,
that's just an accusation. Before I get sued by a
Plantner no proof At this point, other than an accusation.
Speaker 4 (08:01):
I alleged you're the least of his problems. Right now,
it's probably true. We have to be pretty careful. There's yeah,
people get sued, and you're right. I mean it used
to be where I just didn't care. I would say
stuff that in terms of defaming people, not that I'm
defaming him. And if you think I'm defaming you, mister Plattner,
(08:24):
I am not. I'm merely parroting another allegation that someone
said that you raped them several women. And how's that
for being a complete woosp panty waste handle handle dodging
the law.
Speaker 2 (08:39):
Yeah, yeah, that's it all right. I think we have
time for one more before we take our break.
Speaker 4 (08:43):
Sure Mexico is reacting with outrage about the Wednesday or
they reacted yesterday about the killing of Lorenzo Selgado Rahu.
That's what I'm going with. He had immigration authorities. We
talked about this yesterday in Texas earlier this week that
(09:06):
said the car was being used as a weapon and
they shot him and of course killed them. The President,
Claudia Scheinbaum, vowed to respond to the killing with legal measures.
Don't know what they are. No one said what those
legal measures would be.
Speaker 2 (09:28):
Yeah, well she's yeah. I mean this is basically political speak,
is what it is. I mean, nothing's gonna happen. We
demand that this stop, and then do you have ambassadors
being recalled? And not a lot happens to this. So
this will disappear very quickly. Now, it may not disappear
(09:48):
here as the investigation as to why Ice killed this
Mexican national, because Ice has a habit. So far of
the two people that were already killed, and they said
this was weaponized, the gentleman who had a forgot his name,
had a weapon, he pulled the weapon, and there's the
(10:09):
video which shows absolutely not the case. So investigation is
going to happen and we'll see. I wouldn't be surprised
if Ice was lying through this too at all.
Speaker 3 (10:21):
So apparently what's old is new. President Trump flew home
from the NATO summit in Turkey on his old Air
Force one, not the shiny new Katari gifted retrofitted red,
white and blue jet. He said he would fly the
legacy aircraft for old times.
Speaker 2 (10:40):
Sake, but.
Speaker 4 (10:43):
It's not really why he did that.
Speaker 3 (10:46):
So during the flight, Trump denied to reporters that security
concerns involving Iran were a factor in flying the old
Air Force one. But then we talked to John Decker,
ABC's White House correspondent, who is in Turkey. He told
wake Up Call that the Secret Service basically said the
President could not fly the new jet because it doesn't
(11:06):
have the same defense capabilities as the old Air Force one.
So he flew the old Air Force one to the
UK and then got on the new one for the
trip home to Washington.
Speaker 2 (11:19):
Now, of course he's not going to ever say that
the new plane does not have the same security because
it's his plane. Basically, the whole thing was predicated on
a gift to him to the United States via him
from Qatar, and we had a huge controversy, so officially
it's not the Secret Service. A couple of reasons. He
(11:41):
gave number one for old time's sake. That's kind of important, Okay,
thirty year old plane that he bitched and moaned about,
and what it is, thirty years old, so it's time.
And then they were very excited. We're talking about the
RAF base where it was landing, and he did it
(12:04):
for them because they were excited to see it. So
that's why he did it? Just fantastic? I love it.
Why doesn't he just say, you know what, we had
security retard the concerns here and we have to fix those.
Speaker 3 (12:20):
No chance, No, it would be a sign of weakness.
Speaker 2 (12:24):
I guess, absolutely no chance. And it is if that's
true that it was security concerns. Someone blew it. Someone
absolutely blew it as the security people. Because you don't
have a new plane that has more or as good
security as the old plane. So just you double down,
(12:46):
you doubled down? Okay, moving on, all right? ABC fighting
back and forth with the FCC. They're putting their heels
in the sand. ABC is continuing to fight back and
pretty forcifully really in this has to.
Speaker 4 (13:00):
Deal with the view and whether they're subject to the
equal time rules. So the network is accusing the Trump
administration of trying to squelch free speech, and this escalating
dispute now is going back and forth with the Federal
(13:24):
Communications Commission, some saying hey, listen, this was all decided
more than two decades ago that it was already within
its limits. And you know what, if you watch the view,
oh it is anti Trump, yeah, but aswer Trump.
Speaker 2 (13:41):
Well, because the argument is there's still an equal time
rule on the books that no one enforces, and what
the administration said, we are going to enforce it. And
to be fair to the administration, they're also saying the
same thing on Fox's Laura Ingles Show, which is rapidly
pro Oh no they haven't. I'm sorry. I made a
(14:02):
mistake here. All the pro TV shows are left alone
completely Listen.
Speaker 4 (14:10):
There is way more anti Trump stuff on television. But
you know, the right wing has radio. You know, try
and go throughout the country and not find, you know,
conservatives on the radio.
Speaker 2 (14:24):
I'm surprised they don't get Well, they can't go after
MSNBC because that is legitimately news. It's Fox that is
not news. It is I mean, Fox is rabbit pro
pro Trump, and the view is rabbing anti Trump.
Speaker 4 (14:42):
What I think the you think MSNBC or whatever it is,
ms now or whatever you think that in CNS CNN
is real news.
Speaker 2 (14:53):
CNN, yes, even though it is by it No, CNN
is real news. It's bias. Really, yeah, they're all They
all called their bias. That's fine. There is bias. News
has bias, yes, but it's light news light bias. For example,
CNN does give news. Fox Uh, gives news except their
(15:17):
shows at Laura Ingle.
Speaker 4 (15:19):
And you've got talking heads like radio.
Speaker 2 (15:23):
Yeah, but they but they don't go after. What I'm
saying is the talking heads that are anti Trump are
being attacked where the pro Trump talking heads are. As
a matter of fact, they're being put on pedestals by Trump.
Speaker 4 (15:39):
He loves Fox and he says it, so he calls
him every morning he does. That's exactly what he does.
Speaker 2 (15:47):
So you know, it's just another attack. Makes absolutely no sense. Uh.
You know, let's if there's a perceived enemy, God bless you,
you're you're on the radar screen. Uh. And if you're
an ally you what you do is you get pardoned
for any crime that you could commit.
Speaker 3 (16:03):
Okay, sounds a bit like police want to rob Peter
to pay Paul. On this one, the LAPD is considering
whether to shut down the Police Academy for part of
twenty twenty eight so they can put hundreds of officers
back on the streets for the Olympics and Paralympics.
Speaker 2 (16:22):
That makes sense.
Speaker 3 (16:23):
Well, the proposal was apparently floated at a senior staff meeting,
but some say they're worried that pausing the Police Academy
would set back the department's efforts to hire more police
officers and also, you know, replenish its dwindling right now.
Speaker 2 (16:39):
If that makes sense rehiring police officers, I don't know.
I mean they can rehire them. It's going through the academy,
that's the problem. And they need the police officers.
Speaker 3 (16:48):
Well, they're saying, we've got a story of news that
they're saying it's going to be like twenty four thousand
police officers short. They need to find some more.
Speaker 2 (16:58):
Well eventually, I mean not now.
Speaker 3 (17:00):
No for the Olympics.
Speaker 2 (17:01):
Oh I see the security people. Yeah, yeah, because they're
not there's there's never enough security now for a games
like this. They're just aren't. Oh talking about the Olympics.
And this one is the a soccer story Neil or Amy, No,
we still have a story. Oh yeah we do. I've
got that. Yeah, I'm making this up. Okay, let's just
(17:24):
do it, Amy this comic or Neil, let's see the
next story. Oh it's good.
Speaker 4 (17:29):
Yeah, why don't you just sit there and look pretty? Bill,
we got this, buddy, Yeah, go ahead, all right, So
President VERUK assault, I want my name up there, daddy,
and I want it now. Federal Appeals Court for a
second time, said it would not quickly intervene to reverse
a judge's order that removed Trump's name from the Kennedy Center.
Speaker 2 (17:52):
Excuse me, it's not the Kennedy Center. It's Donald J.
Trump Kennedy Center. And they, I think, and they did
remove it, but that tarp that covers it up is
still there, and I'm willing to bet it's going to
be there until the end of the presidency.
Speaker 4 (18:14):
Wait, so is it is the name under that tart still?
Speaker 2 (18:18):
Yeah? No, they're saying no. They're saying it's unremoved, and
there's pictures of it being removed, but publicly it's not
shown that it's removed. I mean, you don't take Trump's
name off of anything, and there's no backlash, so it's
covered up. Still, it's covered up, the removal.
Speaker 4 (18:38):
The only thing he's ever won in his name off
of is lawsuits.
Speaker 2 (18:43):
That's probably true or not even because any publicity is
good publicity. We said you've heard that before. Okay, now
we have the soccer store.
Speaker 3 (18:57):
Soccer fans have pitched a fit ooh or World Cup tickets.
Two World Cup customers who are from California are suing
stub Hub, which is based in New York, for allegedly
false and misleading advertising that left them without tickets or
a refund to World Cup matches that they paid to attend.
(19:19):
Some say they had purchased tickets to World Cup games
as early as last November. They booked their flights and
their hotels, they arranged their travel plans, and then like
days or weeks before the match, StubHub contacted them and said, oh,
you're getting a refund.
Speaker 2 (19:34):
You don't have tickets. Yeah, that's a little problematic in
the sense of how many thousands of dollars do you
put out? What are hotel rooms during the World Cup
and what are flights? Oh yeah, yeah, they're going to
get nailed. And StubHub has done a horrible job. I
think even FIFA has done a horrible job with its
(19:55):
tickets and everything they can do to maximize the money
coming in. And I can't even imagine how much money
is actually coming into FIFA because the official prices on
these games can go five thousand, four thousand dollars and
they're in forty eight different stadiums, all of them sold out.
And then you have the television rights that have been sold,
(20:17):
and you have the sponsorships. Man, it's good to be FIFA.
Speaker 4 (20:23):
That's for sure. Well more FIFA news. You have the
World Cup as we know, winding down, and they have
the big halftime show that's coming up on July nineteenth
at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. And guess who's
joining the music team. You've got Justin Bieber along with Madonna,
(20:47):
Shakira and BTS.
Speaker 2 (20:49):
Now yeah, okay, Madonna. Yeah. They also have Gustavo Dudamel,
the conduct.
Speaker 4 (20:58):
What the La Times to write story on him?
Speaker 2 (21:00):
Oh, he's incredible.
Speaker 4 (21:02):
Just I'm kidding. That's all they do is write stories on.
Speaker 2 (21:05):
Still, he's incredible. He is the music director of the
La phil Harmonic and has been for seventeen years. He's
taking over New York phil Harmonic and he is He
is seriously one of the world's top conductors.
Speaker 3 (21:19):
Time for Trump to pay up. A Judge Lewis A.
Kaplan has issued an order saying that Trump can be
paid or Egene Carroll can be paid the five point
eight million dollars set aside to her, along with interest
that has grown since the verdict. Carol's lawyers had requested
(21:40):
the disbursement after the US Supreme Court declined to hear
an appeal of the twenty twenty three civil verdict.
Speaker 2 (21:47):
Yeah, what's five million dollars to Trump? I mean, the
guy made in his first year of his second term
two billion dollars. So five point eight a million is
with interest, is absolutely nothing.
Speaker 4 (22:04):
It's good to be the king.
Speaker 2 (22:05):
Yeah it is. And it's more of a question of
Trump being on the wrong end losing this process. But
so so be it. So she'll get paid she should.
Oh great story. Oh I love this one.
Speaker 4 (22:21):
Oh no, this is Oh, this is fantastic. So I'm
going through the news last night and this pops up,
and I'm like, what in the hell you have a
flight instructor. Instructor who jumped to his death from a
ce cessna. Yeah, a little small with a student with him,
(22:44):
a twenty two year old student. They think it's he suicided.
Speaker 2 (22:49):
I guess.
Speaker 3 (22:51):
That.
Speaker 4 (22:53):
Apparently he at one point looks over at her. The
student takes off his head set, arranged his belongings, including
like you know, mobile, mobile phone, took off his seat belt,
opened the door, which, as you can imagine, is very
difficult when you're in flight like that on a small
plane and he jumped out, but before he did, he
(23:16):
turned to his student and told her, you know what
to do, keep moving forward. Then jumped and apparently she
did brilliantly, and everybody raised her under the circumstance.
Speaker 2 (23:28):
You know, and you do saw a solo flight when
you get your license. I remember I was usually that way. No,
that is a boy. That's really a way to say, Okay,
it's time for you to solo. So he took a
flyer out the door, very very very strong.
Speaker 3 (23:46):
Here's another really sad story. CTE strikes again. Former Dallas
Cowboys defensive end Marshaan Neeland died November twenty twenty five
of a self inflicted gunshot wound. He's been diagnosed now
because they can't do these tests until after the person
is dead, with stage one chronic traumatic encephalopathy or CTE.
(24:11):
Neiland's family released a statement with the diagnosis. They said
it doesn't change the tragedy of his passing, but it
does provide important context about some of the struggles that
he may have been facing.
Speaker 2 (24:23):
Yeah, and the only way they can determine CTE is
to basically look at the brain, and that's after they're dead.
And so a lot of these NFL players are donating
their brains for science, medical science to figure out what
CTE is. Remember the movie with Will Smith about that
Nigerian doctor who actually insisted and discovered what CTE is.
(24:48):
And it's just an amazing film.
Speaker 4 (24:50):
And so you know what's funny about this, and people
don't understand that science is observed by humans and there
is politics and everything else in it. They they torched
that poor doctor for years because the power of the
NFL and everything else, and everybody kind of called him
a quack. Well you know, the rest of everybody else,
(25:14):
all the other doctors says, is it okay, good for him?
Speaker 2 (25:17):
But his credentials are beyond insane. I mean, if they
still didn't listen to it, you're absolutely right, you're right.
Let's do one more story and then will bail.
Speaker 4 (25:27):
So man, the Crime of the Century continues. Three more
people have been criminally charged with destruction of property at
the Lincoln Memorial reflecting Pool by removing pieces of the
blue paint from the reflecting pool. And this is on
camera and witnesses, including body cams from security out there.
Speaker 2 (25:47):
Which we haven't seen.
Speaker 4 (25:50):
Oh, which conspiracy theorists.
Speaker 2 (25:54):
Well, and let me put it this way. You have
what is it Janine Piro, who is the US attorney
for Washing se with the fellow who was arrested, and
he says that he simply pulled a piece that was
floating around. It was just coming out of him.
Speaker 4 (26:12):
If you're looking to guess, none of these were Republicans,
and they were probably people who don't like Trump.
Speaker 2 (26:19):
You would think so. And the way she when she
had her press conference is he violently put his hands
into the reflecting pool and pulled off the liner. Uh,
and was belligerent to the park rangers who were coming.
I didn't know being belligerent to park rangers is a crime.
(26:39):
And you bet your wait, and of course he's going
to be acquitted. Of course he's going to be acquitted.
And so some of these people admitted to it, by
the way, had it not admitted to not admitted to
cutting the liner?
Speaker 4 (26:51):
No, but they they pulled it up and put it
in their purse.
Speaker 2 (26:55):
They pulled up that was already it had already separated.
And the issue is is that is that what do
you call destruction of a federal property?
Speaker 4 (27:06):
You don't think people are just yutzing Trump and going,
what a bad job and putting it online and just
leave it alone.
Speaker 2 (27:15):
But we don't see it. It's not online. We don't
see any of it. Yeah, we don't see him violently
reaching his hands down and pulling this thing. All we've
heard so far is that someone cut three hundred and
fifty feet of this liner, and then the other thing
is paint. From what I understand, it's sprayed on and
(27:41):
taking a box cutter and cutting does that. I don't
know what that does. We're going to find out. And
we're also out of time, all right. Coming up the
Graham Plattner story out of Maine. Oh man, it's a
good one, and we'll talk about that coming up right
here on KFI. This is KFI A six forty. You've
been listening to the Bill Handle Show. Catch my show
(28:02):
Monday through Friday, six am to nine am, and anytime
on demand on the iHeartRadio app.
