The Bill Handles show on demand on the iHeartRadio Appy
Bill Handle here on a Taco Tuesday, January thirteenth, and oh,
we have some breaking news regarding Iran in the United States.
Speaker 1 (00:15):
Amy, you've been following this.
Speaker 3 (00:17):
Yeah, we just got a flash from the Associated Press
that President Trump says he's canceled meetings with Iranian officials.
You know, he's been talking about the Iran had called
and said we need to talk and has told protesters
help is on the way. Didn't give any details. Now,
Trump has threatened to take action against Iran if the
(00:40):
protests turned deadly, and now he even sources inside Iran,
within the Iranian government or news organization has said that
more than two thousand protesters have been killed. And when
we talked to Jordana Miller, ABC's Jordonna Miller this morning,
she's saying those numbers could be as high as ten thousand.
Speaker 1 (00:58):
Oh my god.
Speaker 2 (00:59):
Well, the the regime is teetering, tottering, and it's so overwhelming.
The demonstration is that they're looking at losing complete control
of the country and they're they're vicious, horrible.
Speaker 1 (01:14):
People who run the country.
Speaker 2 (01:15):
It's a theocracy run by the Bulas, actually run by
the Iola Kamani, who's they had honcho. And you're going
to see the president and he's going to probably issue
a press conference today to the people of Iran.
Speaker 1 (01:32):
Come next Friday.
Speaker 2 (01:35):
If you look up at the southern sky, make sure
you have your sunglasses on.
Speaker 3 (01:43):
Well, how are they going to do it?
Speaker 2 (01:44):
It's going to be very bright. Let me let me
explain that again. Kno h, it's a nuclear attack. Well,
I don't think it is very very bright, of course not,
but it sounds good. If anybody would say, if anybody
would say that, it would be it would be a
President Trump. And I gotta tell you it's the Iranians
(02:05):
have to be sweating because he is going to go
in now. It's if we go to war, if in
fact it does happen, where there is going to be
a confrontation. Iran is not Venezuela. Iran has a sophisticated military.
It's well trained, it has a lot of equipment, and
(02:30):
it will go balls to the wall. In Venezuela, Dires
I was reading a quick fact about Venezuela. Venezuela received
very high end modern defensive equipment from Russia, these anti
missile launchers, weapons system, radar systems, and you know, they
(02:53):
didn't use them because none of them worked, because they
were all falling apart, because they never got the training,
because they're never maintained them, because they didn't have their
people to train. A lot of this was just in
warehouses that were blown up, and of course the Venezuelan regime,
(03:14):
if it were what they did was they blew up
the United States. These warehouses that blew up really had supplies.
You'll enjoy this kidney dialysis supplies. A warehouse full of
them that the United States blew up. I'm serious, that's
what they said. Well, and then there were pieces of
equipment that were flying around and here's the video and
here are the photos of the equipment.
Speaker 1 (03:37):
So it's you're it's going to be tough.
Speaker 2 (03:42):
We're going to see what happens if Iran does in
fact do anything, and it will launch.
Speaker 1 (03:47):
It's not going to go to war with the United States.
It's not going to launch.
Speaker 2 (03:49):
What it will do is launch missiles against Israel, who
has nothing to do with this. Israel is not attacking Iran.
Israel is just sitting back and watching it happen. However,
if there is an American attack of any kind on Iran,
Israel will be the immediate target of the missiles and
(04:10):
the drones coming in from Iran, and they have thousands
of them, and then Israel starts Iran is They're in
a precarious position, to say the least. And I wouldn't
be surprised at all that ten thousand people have been
killed and tens and many more tens of thousands have
(04:30):
been arrested. And it's all about the revolutionary Guard that
is backing up the regime. If the revolutionary Guard goes
anywhere else, that country has gone. And why are people protesting?
Well because the sanctions inflation is at one thousand percent
(04:53):
or more some years and it's now you have the president,
and to his credit, by the way, is shutting down
any sales of oil from Iran and sanctioning any country
that does business with Iran. The president is serious. That's
(05:13):
one thing you got to give this man credit for.
This is no bluster. This is what he says and
what he does, and whether you agree with him or not,
this is the kind of president he is. Some of
the stuff I agree with, and I'm okay, with and
then there's some stuff where I think the administration is
completely nuts, unconstitutional, even criminal. But again it depends on
(05:37):
how you look at it. Okay, let me tell you
a story. We just we talked about this in the
last segments and Neil brought this up, and that is
looking at any political activity or actually any activity at all,
any controversial occurrence, for example, the shooting of the lady
(06:03):
in Minneapolis, two different stories. You have, of course, the
administration saying that she had weaponized her SUV and tried
to run over and kill an ICE agent.
Speaker 1 (06:18):
And on the other side you have the group all
of them were there.
Speaker 2 (06:24):
Witnesses by the way that we're there, saying that she
tried to back away, she tried to steer away from
the agent when she was shot.
Speaker 1 (06:32):
Okay.
Speaker 2 (06:32):
The point is is that when you look at those people,
and when I say those people, those that are absolutely
entrenched on the right read pro Trump, absolutely entrenched on
the left read anti Trump or anti conservative or liberals,
you get two views of society. And what ended up
(06:55):
happening is the MAGA supporters who were able to put
over the top in winning the election this past election.
We're able to convince Americans that this is the way
we want to go. So come newter the midterms, you
are going to hear the word shellacking and where did
(07:19):
that come from?
Speaker 1 (07:20):
Comes from?
Speaker 2 (07:21):
That was the way President Obama described the first midterms
after he was elected, when Republicans swept through the legislature,
Congress specifically and stopped him cold in many of his endeavors. Well,
(07:42):
right now you have a Republican administration. You have a
Republican Congress, Republican Congress House of Representatives, and a Republican Senate.
So the president has a lot of sway. As a
matter of fact, the president knew whatever the hell he
wants and he's going to have Congress and the Senate
(08:04):
go his way. Is that going to stop? Yeah, Because
I'll tell you what's going to happen. Because when the
election that just occurred last year, Trump won because he
got independence on his side, and independence went that way.
Speaker 1 (08:24):
But let me tell you what's happening with independence.
Speaker 2 (08:27):
First of all, it's a record high of forty five
percent of US adults now identify as independence, and that
surpasses forty three percent measured in two fourteen, twenty fourteen,
twenty twenty three, twenty twenty four. Now two percent may
mean very little, except when you look at presidential elections.
What did Trump win by? It was less than a
(08:51):
point or a point and a half. Gallup has been
conducting a poll talking about people's political beliefs. How do
you feel, how right wing are you, how left wing
are you? How independent are you? And the independent move
is getting larger and larger. And so what you do
(09:15):
is you have the candidates, you have these political movements
going for that middle ground. The independent they already have
their side Trump and the Conservatives will always have MAGA.
The liberals the left wing in addition to being radical
wacko left wing, just as the administration will always go
(09:36):
far left. You'll see Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, mom Dommy.
I mean, that's a given. So it's that middle ground
that in fact controls the election. And this does not
bode well for the Republicans for a couple of reasons.
Number one, Trump has gone way beyond what the middle
(09:59):
ground has anticipated. Maga loves them, The liberals hate him,
but they are already set in stone, that's baked in.
And now you have more and more independence looking at
what's going on. With the administration looking at what's going on,
for example, with immigration. Now, even people who are anti immigration,
(10:22):
anti unfettered immigration coming in the country, they are looking
at what's going on with ICE and there is a
lack of humanity going on. It is brutal what ICE
is doing to these folks. I mean, there is a
video yesterday breaking into houses. The mayor of Minneapolis said,
(10:43):
as he's fighting this in file lawsuits against the government
to keep the National Guard out and to keep the
military out. He said, if you look at the video,
you will see fifty ICE agents arresting one person. I mean,
when you look at the number of individuals from ICE, they.
Speaker 4 (11:03):
Overwhelm any any basically, they overwhelm any purported illegal alien,
any activity.
Speaker 1 (11:14):
They just it's not even close.
Speaker 2 (11:16):
And the way the mayor said is it's wildly disproportionate. Well,
the independence are going, yeah, that doesn't bode well, that
looks like crap. And then you have the power of
the presidency where a lot of people who are pro
President Trump looking at do we really want a president
that powerful, who can.
Speaker 1 (11:36):
Arbitrarily raise tariffs.
Speaker 2 (11:39):
Who can arbitrarily wake up in the morning and say
we're going after Venezuela who can arbitrarily say we.
Speaker 1 (11:46):
Want greenland, and we may.
Speaker 2 (11:48):
Be prepared either we buy it or we're going in
and taking it militarily. Do we want that? Do the
independence want that? I don't think so. I mean we're
going to find out, obviously the midterms, and we may
come back and use the word shellacking because it may
be a wild swing.
Speaker 1 (12:11):
We'll find out.
Speaker 2 (12:11):
I have no idea, but I do know that the
MAGA supporters of Donald Trump I have not grabbed the independence.
The left wing has grabbed some independence, and we'll see
which way it goes. If I had to guess, I
think shellacking is absolutely the way it's going to be
(12:36):
described come the midterms. And the midterms are in November,
and you're going to see the politicking starting very, very
hard in the next couple of months.
Speaker 1 (12:47):
Okay. Now, a story that.
Speaker 2 (12:50):
Has hit the Jewish community big time. There is a synagogue,
Beth Israel Synagogue in Jackson, Mississippi, is the biggest synagogue
in the state, also the oldest.
Speaker 1 (13:05):
It was created in eighteen sixty.
Speaker 2 (13:08):
And has been around and it's obviously a significant part
of the Jewish community community and what a history it
has in terms of violence. In nineteen sixty seven, it
was bombed by members of the q kluks Klan because
of the synagogues and the members of synagogues being involved
in the civil rights movement. Well, it just was torched,
(13:32):
I mean gone. Unfortunately. The suspect, who I'm going to
say did it, identified as Steven Spencer Pittman, nineteen years old,
admitted to setting Beth Israel on fire, calling it a
couple of things. He said, we're not going to say
he's nuts, but let's start with he's nuts. He confessed
(13:55):
to starting the blaze because of the synagogue's Jewish ties.
Speaker 1 (14:00):
You think.
Speaker 2 (14:03):
That's the one that got me into him, like y ow, Yeah,
because of his Jewish ties.
Speaker 1 (14:09):
They seem to be tied to that whole Jewish thing.
It does, doesn't it.
Speaker 2 (14:13):
And he also called it the Synagogue of Satan, which
I'm sure there are one or two members of the
synagogue who believe that way, but they're not very vocal
about it. The guy is obviously an avowed anti Semite
and completely crazy to say the least, but certainly not
crazy enough to get off on an insanity plea plea
(14:36):
he was charged went to his first court appearance via
video conference because he was in the hospital or is
in the hospital, because both of his.
Speaker 1 (14:45):
Hands are bandaged.
Speaker 2 (14:47):
His face, he's got some burns on his face because
as he was pouring gasoline on virtually every corner of
the inside of the synagogue, he took this accelerant and
literally was pouring it at every point. He lit it
on fire and got himself burnt, and then he went
(15:07):
to his father, and his father actually called the authorities
because he left a photo of the rear side of
the synagogue where he came in messages to his dad
like there's a furnace in the back. Btw, my plate
off hoodie is on.
Speaker 1 (15:29):
He was wearing a hoodie at the time.
Speaker 2 (15:31):
They have the best cameras referring to the I guess
the security and the father saw the burns on his
son's ankles actually and called the authorities. It looks like
Pittman acted alone. And they're going both state charges and
federal charges going against Pittman. And this is a sort
(15:56):
of symbolic of the kind of anti Semitism that is
exploded throughout the world, and primarily because of what's going
on in Israel. Israel has always been the underdog. Israel
was created as a country in nineteen forty eight as
the underdog. Here was a country of five hundred thousand
people fighting sixty million Arabs, and out of that a
(16:20):
country was created. And Israel, being pretty smart. Oh them Jews, No,
them Jews are not stupid, created one of the world's
greatest fighting forces. And you don't screw with the Israeli military,
you just don't. I mean, they have the most sophisticated
(16:42):
weaponry in the world, along with the United States, and
they share a lot of intelligence with the United States.
The US buys arms from Israel, as Israel bays arms
the United States and the Arab countries don't come close.
Saudi Arabia buys from the United States some very sophistical gear.
But Saudi Arabia is not about to get into a
(17:03):
war with Israel, just not interested. It wants as Kuwait
is not interested, as the Emirates are not interested. They
want to modernize their countries. The fight in between Israel
and the Palestinians, a lot of lip service is being
given to the fight in favor or lip service talking
(17:28):
about how the Palestinians are in fact oppressed and occupied,
so they don't stand much of a chance.
Speaker 1 (17:35):
Look what's happened over there.
Speaker 2 (17:37):
What seventy thousand Palestinians have been killed and this is
all as a result of twelve hundred Israelis that were
killed in that at first October terrorist attack at the kibbutz,
where Israel went right back and said, man, you talk
out Donald Trump being Donald Trump, you hit us, We
(18:00):
hit you harder? Man, did they hit Gaza harder? Israel
has decimated Gaza, basically obliterated it. And so because of that,
because you have so many Palestinians starving, literally, because you
have Palestinians having no place to live. I mean they're
intense and it's winter there and the rains come, Israel
(18:23):
is looked at as an oppressive regime that has no heart.
Everybody hates the Jews. You know, when the Jews help
people out, everybody hates them. Why were was this synagogue
bombed in nineteen sixty seven? You know, the major non
black group that was part of the Civil rights movement
were the Jews. You know, they're out there marching, you know,
(18:45):
they're out there handing out matsa and you've got African
America going Masa, what's this? Does it taste as bad
for you as it does for us?
Speaker 1 (18:57):
Yes, this is where the black community.
Speaker 2 (19:00):
By the way, they got the expression oi oi what's
going on? You hear a lot of that from the
African American community. Neil, you're shaking your head. Kno, you're
shaking your head. Oh, I got the limbungo bugo. Okay,
(19:22):
we're done, guys, So much for that. Now Neil is
joining us, joining me. And this has to do with
a pop up restaurant. Now, Neil first explained what a
pop up restaurant is, and then we'll jump into this story.
Speaker 1 (19:40):
A pop up Brett restaurant is like a residency. It's
not it's not permanent. They either take a space up
that is an empty restaurant, or they take the space
of a current restaurant for a small amount of time,
whether it's a partnership with a chef or whatever. But
they're not it's not hermanent. Okay.
Speaker 2 (20:01):
So with that, there's a pop up restaurant coming that
is more than interesting. It's a called Noma and the
chef is Rene red Zeppi, and he has a restaurant
in Copenhagen known all over the world and he's coming
to Los Angeles March eleventh through June twenty six, and
reservations will be released January twenty six to sign up
(20:25):
to go, and it will of course be sold out instantly,
even though it costs fifteen hundred dollars per seat for food.
Speaker 1 (20:37):
Yay, okay, but this is it and you really have
to break it down. It's about the experience and the like.
And you know, Cono was asking me off the air
the most expensive meal I have, and I don't usually
chase expensive meals. I just chase good meals. This isn't
the most expensive. By the way, There's a place in
(20:58):
West Hollywood, Somni that I think has a fifteen hundred
and ninety five dollars before tax and tip. This other
one is fifteen hundred dollars with tax and tip. But
here's the thing. They can't lose money on this endeavor,
but they're not really making money. And I'll tell you why.
(21:18):
In this particular case, the the chef is excited about
bringing this here to La Loves La. It's going to
be in the Silver Lake area the Papa, but we
don't have an address yet or specifics because they're keeping
it on the down low. But he is bringing families
(21:39):
with him that partner with him at his own restaurant,
so Sioux chefs and other people that are he's bringing employee.
He's bringing employee, seeing them here, housing them, paying for
it all, house, paying for their children to have schooling here.
So it's not a money making thing, even though that's
what people are going to focus on here. It is
(22:02):
really about bringing an exciting experience to people who may
not get to Copenhagen. And then he's going to do
some partnering with other chefs at their restaurants as well.
So there's this going to be this one. I think
it's in March, but on the twenty sixth of this
month they'll start opening up those reservations. But yes, like
(22:22):
you said, it'll go very quick.
Speaker 2 (22:24):
Oh they'll sell lot immediately. But you know, it's not
a question of him making money. I mean, he can
do whatever he wants. It's a question on my mind
of paying that kind of money fifteen hundred dollars per person. Now,
I wouldn't spend fifteen hundred dollars for emergency surgery for
one of my daughters, much less fifteen hundred dollars for
a meal. I have paid three hundred and fifty dollars
(22:48):
at the French Laundry up in northern California.
Speaker 1 (22:51):
Thomas Kellyate. No, that was lunch.
Speaker 2 (22:55):
That was lunch, three hundred and fifty dollars, and lunch
and dinner menu are exactly the same. That was just
you and pam Yeah, well I was seven hundred dollars
for that's what I'm saying.
Speaker 1 (23:07):
Person.
Speaker 2 (23:07):
Yeah, it was per person three hundred and fifty bucks,
which relative to this is cheap. And I thought at
three hundred and fifty dollars for lunch, that was insane.
But it was a bucket list thing for Pamela, who
is a you know, she's a foodie extraordinaire, and so
we went. I did not like it. It was so
she she that I'm going, this is just too much.
(23:28):
I'm assuming that this is going to be pretty She
she stuff that's not your normal potatoes and meat kind
of thing.
Speaker 1 (23:35):
You're not gonna see short ribs. Well, although I'm familiar
with the restaurant and the chef you're talking about, this
restaurant has been named number one four times in the world.
This isn't you know, just like, hey, it's good for
this area. I don't know the food well, I mean.
Speaker 2 (23:59):
Really a fifteen hundred hours ahead. I would be interested
to find out when you go to that restaurant in
Copenhagen where it is, how much the food is.
Speaker 1 (24:05):
And by the way, it's less.
Speaker 2 (24:07):
It's yeah, I would think so less and incidantly, there
is nothing like a pan pizza from Domino's.
Speaker 1 (24:13):
That's the top of the heap ball. It's actually my favorite.
It's my favorite too. Okay, guys, we're done. Coming up.
It's Rich Demurrow, our tech reporter. A lot going on there.
Speaker 2 (24:23):
