Cara Pacetti (00:00):
Welcome to
Podcasting Q&A, brought to you
by the people at Buzz Sprout.
I'm your host, Cara Pacetti, and I'm bringing you the best
tips and strategies to keep youpodcasting with confidence.
Your questions make the bestepisodes.
I've loved seeing yourquestions come in.
(00:21):
Please keep them coming.
If you're new here and you havea question that you'd like to
see featured on a futurePodcasting Q&A episode, you can
click the Send Us Fan mail linkin the show notes and send us a
quick text or a voicemailletting us know what your
question is.
And we can highlight that on afuture episode.
It's that time of year again, the weather is getting warmer,
(00:43):
which means summer is upon us.
Hopefully, summertime for youmeans you are planning some
getaways, or maybe your kids arehome from school with you.
And while that is all veryexciting, this also might mean
that your time for deep focusedwork becomes challenging or
maybe even non-existent.
(01:03):
If this is you, you'lldefinitely relate to our
listeners' question today.
It says, My podcast has reallybeen gaining traction and I
don't want to slow downproduction, but my summer
calendar is packed.
What are some things I can doso I don't lose listeners, but
that will allow me to disconnectfor summer?
Yes, I hear you.
Summertime for me personallymeans my calendar is busy, busy,
(01:26):
busy.
But the good news here is thatthere are definitely ways to
prepare for summer so that yourpodcast continues on as normal
while you have some flexibilityto disconnect and enjoy your
summer plans.
I've mentioned this in otherPodcasting Q&A episodes, but one
of the easiest ways to stepaway from your podcast for an
extended time is to front loadsome of that work.
(01:50):
This includes scheduling arecording day or two leading up
to your break to sneak in therecordings that you want
released over summer.
If you can go ahead and getthem recorded, edited, and
uploaded with some writtencontent before you go on break,
that will make life much easierand help you to streamline that
(02:10):
workflow when you don't have asmuch time to devote to your
podcast.
When you've uploaded yourepisodes and you have a
transcript generated, Irecommend using AI to help you
with some of that writtencontent for your episode
descriptions and also for socialmedia posts.
If you copy and paste yourtranscript into AI, you can
prompt AI to help you createsome episode descriptions,
(02:33):
titles, and maybe even somesocial media posts.
And you can even prompt AI tocustomize these results for
specific social media platforms.
That's just a way to get aheadof this so you have that content
when you are ready to publishthose episodes.
Now, if you're hosted here withus on BuzzSprout, we have a
feature called co-host AI thatyou can enable inside of your
(02:53):
account, which willautomatically listen to your
audio and provide social mediaposts, episode description
options, title options for yourepisodes.
And so if you haven't giventhat a try and you are heading
into a busy summer season, goahead and enable that inside of
your account.
You can give that a try forfree on your next upload and see
how you like it.
(03:14):
Once you've added thoseepisodes to your hosting
account, if your host allows it,I recommend scheduling these
episodes for a future releasedate.
You can adjust the schedulingoption.
I know BuzzBrow allows for thisfeature.
I assume that others do aswell, but you can go ahead and
set that release date and thenwe will actually publish that
episode for you.
(03:34):
So this is a great way to makesure that your episodes are
released on time for yourlisteners.
I know that I give the adviceof publishing your episodes
early in the morning so thatthey'll be available for your
listeners' commute to work.
And so instead of you having towake up early to publish that
episode on your summer break, goahead and schedule it and let
us publish that for you.
(03:55):
So once you've front-loaded allof that work and you have it
all ready and your episodes areuploaded, the descriptions are
added, and you have them allscheduled for their release
dates and times, you can juststep away for the summer and not
look back.
Okay, who am I kidding?
Who can really step away andnot check on things?
And if this is you, I hope thisrelates.
I know it can be hard to fullystep away from something you're
(04:17):
passionate about.
So we have an app that willhelp you with that.
If you're hosted here onBuzzSprout, we make it easy to
quickly check on things withoutinterrupting your break.
You can use the Buzz Sprout appto check on your episodes to
make sure that they went livewhen you scheduled them.
You can also check for anytypos or small changes that you
think need to be made to yourtitles or descriptions once the
(04:38):
episodes are live.
Another great benefit of usingthe app is that you do have the
ability to check on the stats tosee how your episode is
performing, all while keepingyour laptop closed.
If you're not using an app toschedule out your social media
posts while you're away, you canquickly share your episode to
your Instagram stories using theBuzzsprout app.
(04:59):
The main goal here is to keep apulse on the podcast, but to
not let it overtake your entiresummer break because I assume
you're not stepping away forgood, but that you want to help
streamline your efforts and yourtime committed to your podcast
during this busy season.
Another really helpful way ofusing the BuzzSprout app that
(05:21):
I've found is that I actuallyhave enabled push notifications
to come directly from my app.
So I'm notified when my episodeis done processing.
If I've created a visual soundbite, it will let me know when
it's ready.
I'll even get pushnotifications if I receive fan
mail and I can actually open upmy app and respond to those
messages directly from my phone.
(05:41):
So this is really great just tolet your listeners know that
you're still here, you're stillengaged, even though they may
not know that your workflow is alittle more remote than it
normally is.
Maybe it's a little morehands-off, but that's not
changing for your listeners.
They know that you're stillthere because you are responding
and acknowledging theirmessages.
I'm gonna go ahead and includea YouTube short in the
(06:04):
description below.
If you haven't used our BusRoute app, Alvin goes through a
couple of quick ways to best usethe app and how it can help you
with your podcast.
So I know my firstrecommendation included
recording episodes with theintention of releasing them
while you are not plugged induring the summer season.
But if that feels like that'sjust adding a little bit too
(06:25):
much work in addition to thecurrent episodes that you are
releasing, another option is togo ahead and pick a couple of
episodes from your back catalogand re-release them as new
episodes.
So I recommend combing throughyour existing episodes, maybe
find an episode that was reallypopular, but it was maybe a year
or two in the past.
(06:46):
You can also identify some ofthose episodes that you spent a
lot of time on and you werereally proud of.
And for whatever reason, theyjust didn't get the attention
and traction that you werehoping for.
This is a perfect opportunityto release these episodes to
your listeners as brand newepisodes.
So we do get this question onhow do I go about doing this?
(07:06):
Because it is a really helpfultime-saving method to make use
of content that you've alreadyworked hard to create.
We want the episodes to bereleased as new episodes so that
your listeners don't miss them.
If you simply just change thepublished date on the original
episode, it won't notify yourlisteners.
So I recommend taking thatoriginal audio, either saved
(07:29):
from your computer or you candownload it from your hosting
account and throwing it intoyour editing software where you
can record and add a quickintroduction to this re-released
episode.
Some of the things I wouldinclude, let your listeners know
that you are introducing anexisting episode.
Let them know why you're proudof this episode and why you
think it needs to be heardagain, and a little bit about
(07:52):
what the episode is about.
So this keeps it consistentwith your current podcast.
So say the hosting has changed, just make sure that your
listeners are hearing your voiceso they know that this is a
part of the podcast that theylove and nothing has changed.
You're just trying tostreamline your process a little
bit and you are highlightingsome of this great content that
(08:14):
you think they need to hear.
Once that episode has beenpublished and it is live on your
directories, you can actuallygo back into your hosting
account and unpublish theexisting original episode.
And that will allow you to keepthose stats inside of your
account, but it's not going toshow twice on your current
(08:34):
listing feed.
So that's an option for makingthat episode live on forever as
a re-released episode.
I hope you can take away a fewthings from this episode to help
you navigate a busy and funseason while keeping you
podcasting.
If your position looks a littledifferent than this and you're
not actually planning a break, but you are in need of a break
(08:57):
and you're wondering, how do Ido that?
I don't have the time to frontload this work.
I just need a break, then tunein next week because I am
releasing a Podcasting Q&Aepisode that's going to cover
how to take a full break fromyour podcast without it
affecting your current progressor your current listeners.
(09:18):
Make sure you check that outnext week.
