tips and strategies to keep youpodcasting with confidence.
Before we answer today'squestion, did you know that
every expert was once the personasking the basic questions?

(00:23):
The fastest way to learn isn'tpretending you know, it's being
curious enough to ask.
I hope that this encourages youto get curious and send in your
questions using the fan maillink in the show notes.

Just send us some fan mailanyway and let us know how
Podcasting Q&A has helped youwith your podcast.
Today's question is what arethe benefits of being a guest on

(00:47):
someone else's podcast?
Most podcasters think thatguest appearances are all about
getting more listeners for theirshow or promoting something
they're selling.
And while those things canhappen, they're not the main
reason why you should say yes toguesting on someone's show.
Let's talk about three benefitsyou may not realize come with
being a guest.

(01:08):
Every time you make a guestappearance on another podcast,
you have one more opportunity toperfect your craft.
Opportunities to be a guest onsomeone else's show create
comfort behind the mic and helpsyou become a better
communicator.
The more conversations youhave, the more comfortable
you'll become answeringquestions, telling stories, and

(01:28):
explaining your ideas withclarity.
You'll also discover whichstories resonate with listeners
and what questions peoplenaturally ask in response.
I want you to think of everyinterview as practice that makes
you a stronger podcast host, speaker, and communicator.
Learning how to communicateyour message in a way that feels
authentic is a skill that needsto be practiced.

(01:51):
The best way to hone in thatskill is to practice it in real
time with real peoplecontinually.
In addition to making yourmessage more authentic, when
you're explaining your messageover and over again, a byproduct
of that is the clarity you'llget around the intended purpose
of your message.
Another benefit of guesting onsomebody else's podcast is that

(02:13):
it gives you the opportunity toestablish trust with new
listeners.
Time helps build trust.
Unlike social media posts oradvertisements, a podcast
conversation allows people toget to know you over 30, 45, or
even 60 minutes.
People trust other peoplethey've spent time listening to.
A podcast interview gives yourlisteners the chance to hear

(02:36):
you, hear your personality, yourexpertise, and really how you
think.
This ends up being much moreeffective than a quick social
media post lasting 30 secondstelling about your podcast.
The kind of trust you buildwith new listeners builds
connection and credibility in away that very few other types of
content can.
Whether you're just there toserve as another opinion on the

(02:59):
subject or you're there as theexpert, your perspective is
better established when youspend time as a guest explaining
your thoughts.
And whether listenerseventually subscribe to your
podcast, your newsletter, orsimply remember your name, trust
is what opens those doors andit has to be established first.
The third benefit of being aguest on somebody else's podcast

(03:22):
is that you get to servesomeone else's audience.
Instead of asking, what can Iget from this interview?
Ask yourself, how can I servethis person's audience?
Authenticity equals engagement.
When you focus on serving theaudience instead of promoting
yourself, you'll naturallybecome a more engaging guest,
and hosts will be much morelikely to invite you back or

(03:44):
even recommend you as a guest inyour niche to other podcasts.
Your perspective can servedifferent parts of a podcaster's
audience.
Every podcast has listenerslooking for encouragement,
education, or even just a newperspective.
The experiences you're sharingmay be exactly what one
particular person needs to hearon that episode.

(04:04):
It's really a beautiful thingto have multiple perspectives,
and you as a guest on a podcastcan really help to open the door
of a new way of thinking.
Now, can guest appearances leadto more listeners for your own
podcast or even more sales of aproduct or service?
Absolutely.
Those can be wonderfulbyproducts, but if they're your

(04:25):
primary motivation, listenerscan usually tell.
I recommend leading withgenerosity and value first, and
those opportunities will oftenfollow naturally.
So being a guest on a podcastisn't just about exposure.
It's about becoming a bettercommunicator, building genuine
trust, and serving a newaudience with people who may

(04:45):
have never discovered youotherwise.
So the next time you're invitedto be a guest, don't think of
it as a marketing opportunity.
Think of it as an opportunityto serve.
This mindset will set you upfor success and hopefully more
opportunities in the future.
If after listening to thisepisode you are interested in
being a guest on a podcast, there are some strategic steps

(05:06):
that you can take in order tomake sure that you are landing
on the right podcast for you.
So stay tuned.
I have an episode coming onthat shortly.
