Speaker 1 (00:02):
All right, eight fifty, it's the golf show on the ticket.
Couple of tips to get to and a couple of
other thoughts before we wrap things up. Roy McElroy has
really struggled since the Masters, and he admitted in the
pre around press conference the other day that he doesn't
really know what his next goal is. That is, the
last eleven twelve years have been win the Grand Slam

(00:24):
and win the Masters, and Tiger always had another goal
in mind. I'm going to win another tournament. I'm going
to win ten more tournaments. I got to get to
eighty two to beat Sam Stead, and I just don't
know if you can play at the level that you
need to play if you don't have something to play for.
Roy's a multi multi millionaire, probably close to a billionaire.

(00:48):
He's building a home in England. I think the reason
why is they want their daughter to go to school
in England and city United States. I'm guessing the education
may be a little bit more formal and better in
some ways. And he's you know, he had the divorce
issue last year that was reconciled and they didn't get divorced.
He had the exhale after the Masters. But you can

(01:11):
see his frustration. Yesterday he ended up making the cut
and he's really not out of the tournament, especially if
those guys under Park come back. But it just doesn't
seem like Rory's very happy right now.

Speaker 2 (01:22):
I think he's I still think that when you see
the kind of frustration in a player like that, it's
it's more of what's going on with his family life,
you know, is it truly reconciled. Is he truly happy
at home? Is he truly is the marriage still strong?

(01:44):
Because players, even when they struggle, if their home life
is really good, it's okay. They're not breaking tea markers
and throwing clubs down the middle of the fairway. And
the especially him, who seems to be pretty and a
nice guy most of the time, I mean nine of
the time, you know there's something going on outside. He

(02:06):
hasn't played well since the Masters, right, shoot over par
in every one of these tournaments in uh, you know
he needs to other taking a long break, or he
just needs to take a long break.

Speaker 3 (02:21):
Well.

Speaker 1 (02:22):
I think the long break will come as soon as
the as soon as the.

Speaker 2 (02:26):
Ryder Cup's over.

Speaker 1 (02:27):
I think when the Ryder Cup's over in October, you
won't see him until February, and that'll be five months,
and that's probably enough because he's got to play next
week at Hartford. He's gonna play the Scotty Shinbritti schopenh
He'll play the FedEx Cup, and then he'll play the
Ryder Cup and that takes us to mid September and
then other than maybe the Dunhill Cup if he wants
to play with a relative or something, I don't think

(02:48):
you'll see him play again until January December or January February.
But the one thing I would be critical of Rory
about Rory is the one that went to the players
and said, guy, it's we're a television show. When TV
says we want to do the walk and talk interview,
you got to do it. When TV wants you after
the round, you got to do it. We have got
to be more open to our fans and to our

(03:11):
social media accounts. We are competing against other sports and
we've got to do it. And for the last three tournaments,
after the round, he's chosen not to talk. I don't
care if you skip one media session, but you can't
skip them all. If you're going to preach that to
all the other players. You've got to be willing to
do it when you're either number one or number two
in the world.

Speaker 2 (03:29):
There's something going on and there's no doubt about it. Now.
Why we're watching him hit balls here on screen and
there just watched him hit the last two and there's
an issue and he's squeezing his left hand across the
grip roight before he takes it back. There's milking the grip. Yeah,
that left hand is moving a lot right before he

(03:50):
takes it back. He might have another long day, but
it's interesting. Home life is very important. Yeah, I hope.

Speaker 1 (03:59):
I think he will probably play his best golf if
he still has game left. And from a mental standpoint,
when he goes home next month and plays at Port Rush.
He wanted to win that tournament so badly in twenty
nineteen and he was glad that Shane Lowry did.

Speaker 2 (04:15):
But I think if.

Speaker 1 (04:16):
Roy's going to have a good tournament, it's going to
be that tournament coming up.

Speaker 2 (04:21):
Yeah, well that could be. I mean, I'm not sure.
You know. Again, if his home life's not good, I
don't care where he's played, he's going to struggle.

Speaker 1 (04:30):
One last tip that I want to ask you about
I saw Patrick Reid warming up the other day and
he took his golf towel and he put it under
both the armpits. What's the method of the madness there
when he was warming up?

Speaker 2 (04:41):
I think all that started with Ledbetter with the blue
straps back in the day and Leedberter. I'll never forget
Ledberry goes. You know, Joe, it's one of the best
teaching devices ever, and it's one of the worst ever
because everybody thought that I was supposed to be a
full swing apparatus and it's not. It's pitch shot. It's
well part of a pitch, but it's also taking the

(05:03):
club back to where your left arm is parallel to
the ground and through with your right arm parallel to
the ground, and where you're trying to get your arms
and hands to match up with the body's rotation. It's
a great drill. I highly recommend it, but remember it's
not the full swing drill, that's for sure.

Speaker 1 (05:20):
Yeah, you don't want to take a full swing with
it being jammed. Yeah, VJ. We will like put the
head cover under one of his arms.

Speaker 2 (05:26):
Yeah, the same thing you know that Tiger puts a
glove underneath his right arm. You know that's now that's
a little different. You can make it. It's more of
the full swing because the right elbow should between be
between five to seven inches off your rib cage, depending
on how much girth you have there.

Speaker 1 (05:45):
All right, I filled out my application for Master's tickets
this week, so we'll see if Yeah, it is June twentieth,
June twenty of the Masters dot com.

Speaker 2 (05:55):
If you want to, I'm gonna do that here in
a minute, so you might get your ticket request in.

Speaker 1 (06:01):
We'll see if I get my rejection letter or my
acceptance letter in about a month.

Speaker 2 (06:05):
A lot of.

Speaker 1 (06:05):
Rejections have more rejections and acceptances. But I applied for
all seven days, so we'll see you. I've known people
that have won. Yeah, I have two. I have not
been annoyed yet, so we'll see. All right, see you
next month, Shoe, thanks so much for being here. All right,
that'll wrap things up for today's show and show your
golf wherever it is.
