This is another edition of The Golf Show. The Golf
Show brought to you by MK Golf Tech, Joe Caruso's

Golf Academy and by Alamo City Golf Trail. Now on
the first t Andy Everett.

Speaker 2 (00:31):
Well, good morning. This is David Muno filling in for
Andy Everett. Andy is recovering from a procedure that he
had done I think yesterday other day before. He'll be
back next Saturday morning in this chair. If you have
a golf question, golf comment, Our number of course two
one zero seven three six nine seven sixty running our
board as usual. Is there our wonderful producer, Shane Carter. Shane,

(00:51):
as we get started with the show, before we start
talking about golf, tell the listeners about your show that
airs on Sundays.

Speaker 3 (00:57):
Our show airs on Sundays is from ten am to noon.
It's called Fanatics, hosted by Dylan Emery, co hosted and
producer by myself, and we talk everything from local stuff
about the Spurs to national stuff about the NBA Draft,
the Dallas Cowboys, whatever it is that's hopping throughout the week.

Speaker 2 (01:10):
Very good there it is right there in a quick nutshell.
And before I start talking about golf, my wife Betty
and I will be married twenty five years. It's coming Tuesday.
Haven't made it yet, still got three days ago. But
to a happy twenty fifth anniversary to my beautiful wife
Betty Boop. All right. This week it is a Rocket
Classic happening in Detroit. There's a three way time for
the lead after two rounds. They are Chris Kirk, Andrew Putnam,

(01:33):
and Philip Knowles, all at fourteen under par on the
LPGA Tour. Minji Lee won the Ladies PGA Championship last
week with a three shot win at four under par.
This week, the Ladies are playing the Dow Championship, which
is a team event, with the team of Leona McGuire
and Jennifer Kopcho in at thirteen under par, good for
a one shot lead. On the champions Tour, it is
a US Senior Open being playing this weekend at the

(01:56):
Broadmoor in Colorado. There's a three way time for the
lead at the halfway point. Stewart Sinh Patrick Herrington and
Mark Hensby are in at six under par, three shots
ahead of Thomas Bjorn. Last week Miguel and Healthy Meneth
won the Colleague Championship at Firestone Country Club in Akron, Ohio.
He finished at ten under par good shot for a
good for one shot ahead of Steven Alker. Now last

(02:19):
weekend at the Travelers Championship that took place up in
the great state of Connecticut, your winner, Keegan Bradley. I
watched most of the action on the weekend. I started
out Saturday watching Scottie Scheffler teeing off very last group
because he was tied for the lead, and he tripled
Bogiet the first hole. That's something that US weekend hackers do,

(02:42):
which is very frustrating, But I cannot imagine how frustrating
it is for a professional golfer, especially the top rank golfer,
to make a triple bogey on the opening hole. He
fell out of the time for the lead, but as
usual as Scotty comes back and he finishes in the
top five. But nonetheless he did not win. But Tommy
Fleetwood Tinah on Sunday with the lead, but heading into

(03:03):
the eighteenth hole. Last Sunday, afternoon, Fleetwood had a one
shot lead over Kegan Bradley. Tommy Fleetwood hit first for
the fairway. He had a nine iron in his hand,
which was the right club to go with, but he
figured he'd be able to knock a wedge even closer.
As a result, he ended up very short on the
front edge of the green, or just short of the green.
So Keegan Bradley had a nine iron in his hand

(03:25):
and he kept that club and hit his shot to
within six feet of the hole. Now it turns out
that Tommy Fleetwood took three shots to get up and
down to finish with a bogie, while Keegan Bradley calmly
sank his six foot birdie putt to win by one
shot over Fleetwood. It's been said many, many times that
it is so hard to win on the PGA Tour,
and last Sunday was a very very good example. This

(03:47):
was Tommy Fleetwood's one hundred and fifty ninth PGA Tour
event and he still has not waned the tour. He
does have seven wins worldwide, but no wins on the
PGA Tour. Well, I was a little sad for Fleetwood.
It was good to see Keegan Bradley win. In case
you're not aware of it, Bradley is this year's US
Ryder Captain, and there's a chance that he will be

(04:08):
a plane captain. If that happens, it'll be the first
of that capacity since Arnold Palmer did that way back
at nineteen sixty three. How about that. Now, let's talk
about a few of the golfers who have not won
on the PGA Tour. At the top of that list,
as I just mentioned, Tommy Fleetwood. Now he has seven
worldwide Tour wins, several Ryder Cup appearances, and even won

(04:31):
an Olympic silver medal last summer in Paris. Now Cameron
Young and Ben On our next on that list. Ben On,
who has won more than twenty one million dollars since
he came on tour fourteen years ago. Not a bad
living even without a win on the tour. I take that.
I think Shane would take that. I take winning two

(04:54):
one hundred dollars in one weekend over anything else. But
these guys still go They go out to a week
after week. Now the best player, the best active players
on the PGA Tour who have not won a major,
just a few of them that includes Victor Hobland, Patrick Cantley,
Tony Feenow, Ricky Fowler, and Matt Coocher. Now, Shane, I'm

(05:15):
gonna ask you. I don't know how much you actually
follow golf, but of these names that I just mentioned,
Victor Hoveland, Patrick Catley, Tony feen Now, Ricky Fowler, and
Matt Coocher, which one of those would you like to
see win a major before they walk away?

Speaker 3 (05:29):
Probably Tony fen Now, just because he feels like he's
always close but never there.

Speaker 2 (05:32):
I'm kind of with you on that, but I'd like
to see Matt Coocher first, followed by Ricky Fowler. You know,
Matt Coocher's got that it seems like an omnipresent smile
on his face. He's always walking around, He's got that
little bit of a slide grin. He seems to be
very happy, but unfortunately he doesn't have a major. And
of course Ricky Fowler usually dress in his Oklahoma state
gear on Sunday, his colors. Anyway, very very nice guy.

(05:55):
Tony fen Now, yes, I'm with you on that one
as well. Victor Hoveland I've grown to like in recent years,
very very very fine golfer. Of course, he wouldn't be
on the tour if you wasn't. But I'd like to
see Matt Kuchu win, so I'm hoping that he'll be
able to get one sooner or later. Now we want
to share some of what are considered to be the

(06:16):
most notable sayings and quotes for you with the golfer
and golf. The most important distance is the five inches
between the ears. Don't think about the distance between your
golf ball and the hole, because sometimes you think too much.
I tell people that every time I think I'll weaken
the nation. I think Shane's learned that enough about me
working with me on this golf show. Every time I

(06:37):
think something goes wrong, so I try not to think.
But when you're on the golf course, it is seemingly
true that when you start thinking too much, you're going
to put more pressure on yourself, making you possibly make
a bad shot. All right, The secret to golf and
business is to turn three shots into two. I've never
learned anything from a match I won. These are some

(06:57):
of the most notable sayings, and it's true, you win,
you win, but you don't know what it's like if
you have not won until you actually lose. Then you
learn even more. So, Okay, you swing your best when
you have the fewest things to think about. That's another thing.
And I just got there saying that about not thinking
too much. I see some guys that are just weekend hackers. Yes,

(07:18):
a couple of buddies of mine who get mad over
the simplest things. But they don't take the time to
practice their game. They don't take the time to go
to the driving range and practice anything but hitting a driver.
And we've talked about this many many times in this show.
The short game is so important. Most of the shots
you take on a golf courtse are from one hundred
and fifty yards on end to the green, and a

(07:39):
lot of guys on the range practicing driver after driver
after driver. Oh well, the object of golf is to
beat someone. Make sure that someone is not yourself. Quit
thinking about yourself so much, and just play the game
the way that you know. Go up to the shot,
make your stance, find your target, make your swing just
like any other shot that you're going to be doing.

(08:00):
The difference between a bunker and a water hazard is
the difference between a car crash and an airplane crash,
you have a chance of recovering from a car crash.
Too much ambition is a bad thing to have in
a bunker. It is nothing new or original to say
that golf has played one stroke at a time, but
it took me many years to realize It's another great
saying there as well. My best scores have always been

(08:23):
when I had to run into a streak during a round,
late enough to permit me to return to the clubhouse
before I entirely regain consciousness. And perhaps the most famous
quote of all golf is the closest game to the
game we call life. You get bad breaks from good shots,
you get good breaks from bad shots, but you have
to play the ball as it lies. And I think

(08:43):
our RUDS official Mike Wanagan, who's probably tuning in, would
probably agree with that saying, because you got to play
the ball as it lies. Yes, a lot of people, Yes,
including myself. I'm going to be going to confess your
right here. I've adjusted my lie. Most of us who
are listening to the show have adjusted their lie. Though
you're supposed to play it as it lies in tournaments. No,

(09:04):
you cannot adjust it, you cannot improve it. You go
by the rules there. But on the weekend, you know,
it really doesn't matter that much. Now, if you're in
a divot on the PGA Tour, you got to hit
your ball from the divot. While the weekend hackers, the
weekday golfers that might break away from work to play
mind holes or whatever, they hit the ball into a divot,
very likely they're going to go ahead and improve the
line taken out of the divot itself and put it

(09:25):
on a nice piece of fairway grass. That's just how
I see it from this end. I do abide by
the rules, but yes, occasionally, especially if you are in
a fairway, but you've got some hard pan, maybe you've
got a piece of that just is now dirt because
of maybe some drought conditions. Yes, I've gone ahead and

(09:46):
moved it to some grassy areas, but I've all seen
it from the hard pain have done it both ways,
most of us have. But this game of golf, it
is a game of honesty. You have guys on the
PGA Tour who are standing over a ball that no
one else can see the ball moving even just a millimeter,
But they are honest and they call a penalty stroke
on themselves. It happened last week of the Travelers once again.

(10:09):
But this is a game of integrity, a game of honesty.
Go out and play the game. Play it honestly. You're
playing to have fun, you're playing to win some money
with your partners, and so forth and so on. But
follow the rules and play the ball as it lies.
Coming up next, we're hoping to have a gentleman who
made his first appearance at the US Open a couple
of weeks ago. I won't mention his name, yettil we

(10:29):
get him on the phone, but I think you're going
to like this guy a whole lot. Had a brief
conversation with him yesterday. He is currently in the top
one hundred on the Official Golf World Rankings as well
the Official World Golf Rankings. I should say it's going
to be great to have them on, hopefully in just
a couple of minutes.
