Speaker 1 (00:00):
Have you ever been an accidental winner? My mum used
to call Bingo every Friday night. But every Friday night
when I just turned nineteen, the Bingo Hall, which was
the VLU Band Hall, would be on the way for
me as I was walking into town to go out
or catch up to her mate's house. So every Friday
night around eight or nine o'clock, I'd walk up, go

(00:22):
see mom, go sit down and have a chat to
her while she's calling out Bingo, and then just say
hello to some of the old ladies. Then her mom
gets to have a go every now and again, so
she gives her pays her money. So she's got like
two lines of six cards and she's got her little
dot text he that she has dapper and she sits
here and plays Now. Sitting next to her was always

(00:44):
some different ladies. There was a lady good Missus Jeffries,
who she called old Bag. Oh they used to call
old bag to each other. And when I sat down
there to have a chat to old bag, old bag
and old bag.

Speaker 2 (00:58):
Were you allowed to call her old Yeah?

Speaker 1 (01:02):
Get al bag. She had to get up and go
to the bathroom, Missus Jeffreys, and she goes You can
sit here and play that whatever you and you win,
oh wow. And but it was groceries. Okay, so this
is sometimes when you get bingo, it's like cash bingo.
But back in the day it was gracery bingos. So
you just get like different gracees. There might be milk

(01:23):
and orange yese and cereal and stuff like that.

Speaker 2 (01:24):
Like a few pence worth or what were you talking about?

Speaker 1 (01:27):
A few pence A slate right down? I won you
one you one got at bingo, I won a line
and then walked up there and I had to wait
for her to come back, because they always when you're
calling out bingo, they go, okay, diagonal or parallel and

(01:52):
now full card and then your full card you get
different things. I won a line and then miss Jeffries
came back. I said you won, and she goes, no,
no you. I said, whatever you win, you get right awesome.
Went up there and like it was a pack of
yoyos with biscuits and some tomato sauce.

Speaker 2 (02:09):
Oh wow.

Speaker 1 (02:10):
Which I sat there and ate waiting together. Yeah, because
my mates would come up to the hall as well,
so I just sit there and just ate them.

Speaker 2 (02:20):
Wow.

Speaker 1 (02:22):
But that was my accidental win. Sitting there playing bingo
with momm and old mates, and then I won a
pack of Yoyo biscuits and some tomato sauce. Old bag,
old back. But we want to know when were you
an accidental winner? When were you just at the right time,
the right place, at the right time, or you know,

(02:42):
you bought something and then you won something like a
like a scratchy or something it was just accidental.

Speaker 3 (02:47):
Well, very fair. Be going on your bingo theme there, mate,
My sister back in the early eighties, just the work
of the Bond Bistro and the Arsol Club and Barron
and he she used the boy of scratch. He was
a boss there and agency us alternately do it every week.
And she's doing bingo with my mum on the Wednesday there,

(03:08):
and she was scrolling through a purse looking for a
text of something to do with the bingo with. Then
she found a scratch she had scratched off. Yeah, so
she said, well, so you got five cents off from you, Yes,
scratched up and she scretsed off three cards and one
of twenty five.

Speaker 1 (03:28):
W wow, is that the one that she went house
with the boss or no.

Speaker 3 (03:34):
As you did with that? She wasn't too short with
hers or not, so she said she couldn't. She couldn't
say oh yeah, your age, and she said no, I
can't different aide on. So they went over to mull
and Bimi Motors and ended in the thing and they
sold it back from him for twenty thousand and fifteen grands.

Speaker 1 (03:53):
Oh my god, Oh wow, that's fantastic. Then the story,
that's brilliant, so good. What's that's great?

Speaker 2 (04:00):
Norm?

Speaker 3 (04:00):
Thank you? Thanks mate Shamut from Kumera.

Speaker 2 (04:03):
What did you win? Hey? So technically I want one
hundred dollars. One day, Yes, I was walking through pac
Fans and this dude approached me and he wanted to
buy some Pokemon cards and you were only allowed to
buy one per person. Yeah, I nicely said all right,
I'll go in, and he when I came back out

(04:24):
with the Pokemon card, so he slapped me one hundred bucks.
No way, that is so cool. Yeah, it's actually pretty
good loophole for him, but a good win for me.

Speaker 1 (04:33):
That's great. Did you get back in again? Say I'll
go buy some more.

Speaker 2 (04:37):
Honestly, I was out in front of BB Games almost
every day that week, just trying to get more money
off it

Speaker 3 (04:50):
