In a strange twist for their show, Moyra and Big Trev had some actual intelligent conversation around the proposed Flying Taxis that the Mayor wants to bring to the Gold Coast by 2032.

When you were growing up, did you think that there
would be flying cars by the year of twenty twenty? Yeah,
I know, I did.

I thought they were going to be flying cars at
least around two well, twenty fifteen, they told us Back
to the Future, so I mean that's what we were
all and we believed that liars.

And then what was that fantastic movie with Fifth Element
Bruce Willis And he was a taxi driver. He's a
flying taxi driver, and I thought, yeah, that's cool. Yeah,
so much fun here we are still with cars on
the ground. Yeah, boring, which might be a good thing.
Mayor Tom Taate, our mayor, has just come out and

said that air taxis might be flying by twenty thirty
two now because there's plenty of hurdles like charging stations
and up in the air safety regulations, aircraft certification, all
that kind of stuff. But there's a test at the
moment in New York about lying taxis flying air taxis.

So he signed a big deal for a congestion buster
that there would be air taxis. What's a congestion buster
getting rid of the other So instead of going with
them going up and over over.

Speaker 2 (01:16):
The okay, I don't think, because you'd be so worried
about looking up to see what's falling down. I just
feel like it's like, yeah, it doesn't seem realistic. No,
But then I don't know do they have pilots or
are they autonomous?

But do they where are the road rules?

Where are the where is the line to follow? Are
there traffic lights in the sky?

Well, in like movies, you've got these hovering like.

We actually believe the movies when it comes well, remembering
back to the future, there was like that.

Speaker 2 (01:47):
Yeah, they were. There were lights like where you could
go in like flying Cooper Troopers. Yes, like Marri sit
in a little cloud and say that way guy's name is,
isn't it What do you think his name was Dennis
or something. We'll have names, but at the moment we're going,

we don't know.

Speaker 1 (02:08):
Would you go in an air taxi?

Speaker 2 (02:09):
I would would, But like Ben was saying, will they
have taxi drivers or will they be autonomous? Yeah? Yeah,
hold on, thank you.

Speaker 1 (02:19):
I think I'd be more scared if they were autonomous.
I think I feel better if it was a human
in there. Don't find me because I just keep on
thinking about driverless cars. And how I don't know if
that's necessarily going to fully take off air taxis.

Speaker 2 (02:37):
Would you go in an air taxi here on the
Gold Coast in twenty thirty two, six years from now,

I believe the thing, the test that's been sort of
raising all of this is from Joe Byhavior, right.

Speaker 2 (03:01):
Yeah.

My work consists of we sort of manufacture and produce
all the callers for those joby aviation aircraft, and so
it's pretty cool. The amount of work and regulations and
everything that just goes into constructing, say one of the
callers for them is absolutely astounding. And I think air

travel it's one of the most regulated things as far
as safety goes that we have the modern days. So
one hundred per I would go on them. There's a
whole heap of different air taxi designs getting around, but
I think primarily they were going to be used by FedEx.

Speaker 2 (03:42):
Ah, I'll just delivery systems and stuff, okay.

Speaker 3 (03:46):
Yeah, And I believe they were going to be autonomous
without any driver.

Speaker 2 (03:51):

The beginning of the conversation where you said callers that
you make things for cool. What does that mean? Because
for us that means people calling into the radio station

Yeah it is. It is pretty cool. There's yeah, all
sorts of sort of cool stuff. Part of the pun.

Yeah, no, I just enjoying the puns.

I would definitely go one of the air taxis God
help us if they are piloted by people, because we
know there's enough idiots out on the road as it
is alone in the sky, yeah, we.

Speaker 2 (04:45):
Don't need in the sky. Definitely wants me do a
loop as I go near the Hilton.

Speaker 1 (04:51):
Like how far away do you see this happening? Because
since you are kind of in that industry.

Speaker 3 (04:56):
Well, they're already they're already in operation. The problem, the
main problem they're having is the actual infrastructure for them.
So there was a lot of things getting around. I
believe it was like a corporate version of Kickstarter that
was actually going around trying to fund these sky ports,
and they were going to try and put one in
at Brisbane Airport probably, I assure Gold Coast Airport too,

(05:20):
but they'll need like the whole kind of infrastructure development
around them because they're electric. Two. I think they only
have had a five or six hundred kilometer range at
the moment. But there's yeah, there's plenty of competition. So
there's the job Aviation ones which are testing in New
York at the moment. There's another one which is and

(05:42):
it's got like six blades, kind of like a quad copter,
but it's got six of them. That's another core one.
There's yeah, there's a very few people in the market
sort of manufacturing them, so it's no place to watch.
And if nothing but something to invest in, I guess
if you've got the spare cash, yeah I'll do that.
