Speaker 1 (00:04):
Good morning, I'm never ready Manu and this is your
morning news books for Tuesday, twenty second of October. In
this update, twelve young people have spent the night on
the roof of an Auckland Youth justice facility. One other
young person has been brought down. Police were called to
the kudaway Manaki facility in Witty about six forty five
last night. A witness at the scene says the group

(00:25):
were tearing off roofing, removing insulation, kicking the building and
playing cards and we're demanding five large big mac combos
and cigarettes or dung a. Tumidi Key says it's been
working with police to resolve the matter and there are
no concerns for public safety. The Crown has sunk five
hundred thousand dollars into efforts to find a solution for
Ehumato and are now being told a decision cannot be made.

(00:50):
Documents reveal the money has gone toward a contract with
the Office of the King E Tonga and a steering
group task was settling a plan for the Auckland Land
political reporter to Malsa Jacks and has more.

Speaker 2 (01:00):
A memo from a meeting with the Maori Development Minister
in May shows one Monifenera representative as warning the group
has reached a stalemate. Minister Tama Portucker has suggested the
group be dissolved in response, and was advised by officials
to consider raising the point again at the next meeting
and a statement. Portucker now says he has confidence in
the group and says there have been no discussions on

(01:22):
whether it is fit for purpose.

Speaker 1 (01:24):
Opening statements from the Crown and defense have been heard
in the High Court in christ Church, with evidence set
to start in the Jan Fai bal murder trial. The
forty four year old real estate agent was stamped to
death in July last year, her body missing until this year.
Chinese national fifty three year old Tin Jun Chao is accused.
The Crown said miss Bao was helping him find a

(01:45):
house when he assaulted her at a property she'd recommend it.
It maintains there was a suggestion of a sexual motive. However,
Charles lawyer Josh MacLeod told the court the evidence is
muddy and will erode the Crown's case. The government says
it's red red use the risk of low level offenders
being caught up in the three strikes rules. It's lowering
the threshold for a first strike warning from twenty four

(02:07):
months imprisonment to twelve months. It's also activating strike warnings
for people who commit any of forty two qualifying offenses.
Associate Justice Minister Nicole McKee says the new regime allows
judges to decide if imposing a strike would be manifestly unjust.

Speaker 2 (02:23):
We expect that the lowest level offender will still not
be captured by the three strikes regime, but those serious
offenders will be.

Speaker 1 (02:31):
Christ Church is struggling to keep up with a growing
demand for CBD commercial real estate space. The retail precincts
vacancy rates have hit a historic low, sitting at just
five point seven percent compared with twenty three point two
back in twenty eighteen. Casual streets in highest demand, followed
by high and columbo streets and in sport disbelieve followed

(02:51):
by relief for Petahiku in the Kiwis camp for league
specific championships. He was threatened with a ban of up
to five weeks for checking on a player's wealth during
the Super League Final. Former White Ferns cricket captain Emily
Drum claims a practice series against Australia, hinted that a
made in New Zealand women's T twenty World Cup triumph
could occur. South African Caheso Robada has become the thirty

(03:15):
ninth bowler to take three hundred Test wickets, and finally,
Arena Sublenka is the new women's number one tennis player.
I'm never Retty Manu and that your latest news fix.
We'll be back with the next update at midday from
