one of my buddies for a long time. Love this guy.
It's Andrew Ferriss, who is known as the multi instrumentalist
for keyboards, guitars, backing vocals, and most of the songwriting
main composer for the rock band In Excess.

Yeah, I'm above ground. It's all good. But I was
I was just in. We were just in Dayton, Mo, Lena,
and I was running to how the hell you?

Oh come on a week ago? I can't believe I
missed you.
Speaker 2 (00:38):
Man, Yeah, about a week ago. Oh yeah, I know.
We were staying with family and yeah, we were helping
with some family stuff that need his help and uh
and we want to see him anyway. But yeah, and
we were kicking around there and we went to Saint
Patrick's Day, we did all kinds of things. Yeah, but

you know, look, I'm sorry we missed you, and yeah,
it was still a good day and we had a
good time there. And it just seems like yesterday that
because it literally was. We were just doing all left.
Speaker 1 (01:09):
Yeah, buddy, It's always great to see you. And now
we are talking about some special stuff with in Excess right.
Speaker 2 (01:16):
In Excesses the album Kick, which was the sixth studio
album that we released, and we've done this special edition,
a Kick Caught Fire release, and it's released on my
first which is really soon.
Speaker 1 (01:28):
I am so excited about that. That is uh, that
is fantastic news. And of course the Rock and Roll
Hall of Fame too. I follow all of your stuff,
so I'm constantly getting like clips of you know, you
guys doing New Sensation in front of a gabillion people
or whatever, and just reminded constantly of how amazing you
guys have always been one of my favorite bands. I
(01:49):
know so many people feel the same way. And uh,
and I was so excited to see that Kick is
coming out. So so tell me about the Hi Fi
Anniversary Edition.
Speaker 2 (01:56):
It's a sorry Rhino dot com. Rhino is the label.
It's Whino exclusive and it's only available in North America.
It's a Kick Rhino High Fidelity and it was cut
from the original master tapes by Kevin Gray and pressed
on one hundred and eighty grand black vinyl at optimal
in Germany. So the whole thing is like Ritchie Ditch,

top of the line, you know. And it still had
like a whole new gatefold packaging and special liners and
also five thousand individually numbered copies and available exclusively at
Lino dot com. I'm not here to sell shoes. I'm
here to sell Kick, and I.

Well I say that, you know, it's good to.
Speaker 1 (02:44):
Talk to you. Oh, Andrew's so good to talk to
you too. And and you know when you look at
when you look at Kick, it was because you guys,
it felt like every album back then just kept getting bigger.
I mean I had Shabou Shabah, so I was you know,
I was a fan then, and then we had listened
like Thieves, and then it was Kick. And by by

the time Kick came around, I mean, you couldn't get
a ticket to your shows and you have It was
like your greatest hits album Need You Tonight, Devil inside
New Sensations Never tear Us Apart, of course I always
like Need You Tonight Media eight as well. It was
a phenomenal album. You guys were on top of everything
at that point.
Speaker 2 (03:23):
Yeah, it was pretty crazy.
Speaker 1 (03:24):
It was.
Speaker 2 (03:25):
I mean, when I think about it when we first
performed in the United States and nineteen eighty three we
played a show called Rock and Roll Tonight in Los Angeles.
The other artists on that note where Eric Clapton Simple Minds,
the Scottish band, and I was a huge fan of
both those artists. Loved Simple Minds, love clapped and you know,
(03:47):
we performed as well, and I thought we played really well.
And you know, I went and mixed the concert from
the Commons truck that goes out, you know, to television
and radio later on as a radio show, and so
I knew we played well. And I walked back into
the dressing room and I'm standing there and right in
front of me was ray Man's rack from the Doors
(04:09):
and I'm like, in the back of my mind, Yef,
I'm going, oh my god, that's actually Raymance rack from
the Doors. And I didn't say it, but and He's like, hey,
I was sitting at home, you know, and I watched
this show every week and when You're a band in
Excess came on. I was sitting on the couch and
(04:29):
I said, up right and start turning it up. Listen
to it. And he said, oh man, I got to
meet these guys, and that's he drove over and that's
why he was standing there in the dressing room and
he said, can't come in, And I'm thinking, you know,
there's a bed in the woods you you know what
I mean, like, please come in, you know, And he
walked over and he said to Michael, you know, he said,
(04:52):
you're You're the when I saw you on television. There's
something magnetic about you. I felt I had to come
and talk to you. And it was really strange. I
think that was when I heard him and we thought
he've been That was the first time we performed in
the US, and I thought, I don't know where this
is going. But it kept going that happening to us
(05:13):
all the time, everywhere we went. That I began to
realize that, you know, we were also MTV had come out.
We were making videos, you know, in Australia because of
the tyranny of distance from Australia physically to the United
States quite a long way away. Yeah, and so we
were already had made all these videos, yeah, when we're
giving them to MTV, and so it wasn't like we
(05:34):
were you know, we were The timing was within biblical
proportions for us as an act, and it went on
and on and on. We were very very fortunate people,
I think.
Speaker 1 (05:45):
Well and super talented as well, Andrew and you and
your brothers and Michael, I mean, and Gary. It just
was just when you mentioned. Obviously Michael, a lot of
people talk about his energy and his presence on stage.
But the other thing that I thought too, in watching
especially seeing you guys still in the videos and watching
the live performances, the whole band is electric. It really is.
(06:08):
And certainly Michael was out front, but your whole band
was just so electric. I mean, there was an energy,
and you guys looked like you were having fun, and
you were playing great music, and you just kept releasing
even better music, which is why you're nominated for the
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as well. I know
we're gonna run out of time here fast because I
could talk to you for hours, but congratulations on that
(06:30):
part of it as well.
Speaker 2 (06:31):
Thank you so much. Yeah, we're very on it as
a band. To being nominated for the Rock and Roll
Hall of Fame, I can say that on behalf of
all the guys in the excess, and it means a
real lot to US, and we've seen a tremendous outpouring
of well, I guess votes and affection and from our
fans around the world, especially in America obviously, but you know,
(06:53):
there's so many people have reached out to a sustain
kind of overwhelming, but she had. It's great to talk
to you. I am determined on the next you know,
sir Patrick's day the City at the Seven Pub.

Well, we need to pull you up on stage, my friend,
because that would be a dream come true. You're in
Australia now, will you be back in the States sometime soon?

I am on should say, you know, and my beautiful wife,
we're gonna make that way back over there and we'll
