Speaker 1 (00:01):
The game is done.
Speaker 2 (00:02):
Wrap this one up.
Speaker 1 (00:04):
Now the reaction begins. This is Clippers locker room, your
post game look at the LA Clippers on the LA
Clippers Audio Network. Now you're pre and postgame host Adam
oslan Well.
Speaker 3 (00:18):
Kawhi not the hero in this one. As a jumper
to win, it falls short and the Clippers lose one
twenty to one nineteen to the Miami Heat. Here and
into its home. Welcome into your postgame show. I'm Adam
Oslind coming up. We got your post game box score.
We'll get through all the numbers, all the statistics and analysis.
(00:39):
But first let's get back over to Carlo Jimenez. Carlo
is a game where the Clippers were far too sloppy
with the basketball against a team like the Miami Heat
who are going to make you pay, especially because they
lead the league in pace right now and we know
the Clippers they're dead last in that area.
Speaker 4 (00:56):
Yeah, the Clippers at them in a track meet and
they they don't like playing track meets. And you know
it's understandable for numerous reasons.
Speaker 3 (01:05):
Right.
Speaker 4 (01:05):
You always see the fast teams get to the playoffs
and when the GAMEX slows down to the extremes. It
can be hard to continue to play that pace, but
we saw teams like Indiana and okay See continue to
play fast and have success this postseason. I maybe the Clippers, though,
they just got tired, and I think that Kawhi shot
encapsulates how they're feeling. I mean, he's short from the
(01:26):
right corner three, had his feet underneath him and just
left it a little short. Great performance by the claw.
I thought he had a great game. Him and James
Harden were excellent in this one. The two of them
combined at him to score fifty six points in this game.
Chris Dunn was terrific off the bench. John Collins at
twelve points on five for eleven, he was great. The
Clippers just threw the ball away way too many times
(01:51):
to give themselves an opportunity to win the game. And
you look at the Miami numbers at him, and it's
twelve steals to the twenty one Clipper turnovers, so and
nine unforced turnovers. There's probably more in there, but that's
just what we can see from the box score. And
a wake up call, nonetheless, because you got a team
coming in tomorrow who literally lives off creating turnovers.
Speaker 3 (02:13):
Yeah, and you mentioned it, but those nine turnovers in
the third quarter, so many unforced turnovers and miss cues
there where it just looked like the Clippers were sleepwalking
out of halftime, and they slept walking into the start
of this game. They were down twelve two, So there's
starting to be a trend there. We're only six games in,
(02:34):
but we've seen this in the past with this team.
I thought they were much better in first quarters last season,
but quite frankly, they didn't have the requisite energy and
focus to start both halves in this ballgame, and it
came back to really bite the Clippers because as good
as James Harden and Kawhi Leonard were with some tough
shots that they were able to make in the fourth quarter,
(02:56):
it wasn't exactly like they were running great offense. It
was here and the game ended with a hero ball
type of miss for this Clippers team. You can only
rely on that stuff so much. You have to be
able to work through your offense, and the Clippers couldn't
do that without turning it over.
Speaker 4 (03:12):
Yeah, the Clippers struggled in that one at him. I mean,
just had a hard time being able to go stretches
where they weren't giving the ball away, where they weren't
handing free points and running into transition to Miami heat
and credit Miami. I mean, they shot the lights out
today Adam fifty four forty eight percent from the three
point line, but the Clippers just struggled to stop them,
and especially in the painted area, I mean eight. This
(03:33):
is the second straight game a team has shot over
twenty four or more free throws against them, and Miami
gets fifty eight points in the paint. It'll be something
to watch as the season goes on, but the interior
defense of the Clippers hasn't been as stout. They were
a top five team in points in the paint defended
last season.
Speaker 3 (03:49):
Well, and the one guy who shined tonight was somebody
who started the majority of last season.
Speaker 2 (03:53):
And that was Chris Dunn.
Speaker 3 (03:55):
And I know coach lou rightfully so wants that ten
to fifteen game samples, but people have been calling for
John Collins into the starting lineup. There may be somebody
else that has to get back into the starting lineup
to show this Clippers team how they need to play
from the outset, because Chris Dunn always sets that example
for them and really did to turn this game back
(04:15):
in their favor. That fourth quarter performance and what he
was able to do out there and late third quarter
as well, it turned the tide back in the Clippers favor,
but unfortunately too little, too late, and the offense never
really clicked in in a free flowing way where you
were seeing hot potato basketball out there. I know the
Clippers ended up with twenty five assists, but when the
(04:37):
going got tough late, they settled for some tough shots
and unfortunately one of those wasn't able to drop light.
Speaker 4 (04:45):
And they have some of the best tough shot makers
in the league. So oftentimes for a lot of teams,
tough shots can be bad shots. With the Clippers, it's
good shots, but great shots are assistant, and the Clippers
got to pass up good shots for great shots in
this game, and it's they fall by one to Miami
in a close, close game that at one point they
led by thirteen, came out flat, came back, Miami made
(05:07):
a run, and the Clippers got it back tied. If
you look at the box sCOD though, it just the
Clippers they beat themselves. Before that final shot from Kawhi Leonard,
they had a chance to salvage what would have been
an ugly win. But at the end of the day,
you just can't turn it over that much and you
can't dig yourself that hole and have an opportunity to win.
I mean, the Clippers still had a chance to win.
(05:28):
That's the impressive part. Nonetheless, though, Adam, I think what
we can take away from this is that the Clippers
are still a team growing into their final four. They're
still figuring out what pieces fit together. They're still trying
to understand who works with who. Tyler has been very
open about it, and so for this team, where does
that When does that adjustment come?
Speaker 3 (05:48):
How does it come?
Speaker 4 (05:48):
Ty talks about ten to twelve games. Was we're three
and three now, so this was game six, Game seven
is tomorrow. We'll see how long it truly takes. But
it feels like, and you've pointed it out, there are
still adjustments to be made.
Speaker 3 (06:03):
Now, there are still guys to get healthy.
Speaker 4 (06:05):
Brad's got to get healthy, but there still is adjustments
to being made, and Tie shown he'll make those. I mean,
starting Kawhin the entire first quarter has proven to work. Yeah,
so what's the next move that will prove to work?
I'm sure Ty is already thinking about it.
Speaker 3 (06:18):
Not a finished product whatsoever. But the Clippers dropped to
three and three after losing one twenty to one nineteen
hear it into a dome to the Miami Heat. As
Carlo mentioned, the rest for the weary, they gotta get
after it against the defending champs in New Oklahoma City
thunder in the late night hour eight o'clock tip tomorrow,
the late o'clock tip, I will call it seven o'clock
(06:42):

This is going to be happening on Tuesday night games
now here on the West Coast Clippers ok see tipping
off at eight.
Speaker 5 (06:54):
So hey, a.
Speaker 3 (06:55):
Little bit more rest for the Clippers, I suppose on
this back to back, but they gotta get this one tomorrow. Carl,
great call, as always, We'll do it again and twenty hours.
Speaker 4 (07:03):
See you in twenty hours at them.
Speaker 3 (07:05):
Let's go coming up next final box score and let's
get to your station ideas. We paused ten seconds for
station identification on the Los Angeles Clippers audio network.

Speaker 3 (08:00):
Hey, you lived by the game winner. He died by
the game winner. Unfortunately, Kawhi couldn't get it to go
this time. Clippers lose one twenty to one nineteen to
the Miami Heat on the front end of a home
back to back Here at Into It Dome. Welcome back in,
I'm at a Maslins. This is Clippers Talk and your Clippers'
locker room show. This Clippers team shot fifty percent from
(08:22):
the field, We're seventeen to forty one from the outside.
Scored one hundred and nineteen points, but some of the
offense was nasty out there in the second half. And
it's the turnovers. Well, they got up five more shots
than Miami, which is surprising. Miami got up five more
free throws, and the Clippers had twenty one turnovers, leading
(08:44):
to thirty seven points for Miami, and had two critical
turnovers late James Harden looking for Kawhi then looking for
beats the Zoobos on the block. You can't lose the
possession battle there when you're already in an uphill battle
heading into that four quarter. But the turnovers nine of them,
nine of the twenty one in the third quarter, leading
(09:06):
to seventeen points for Miami Clippers made it far too
tough on themselves. They got out scored in the paint
fifty eight to forty eight. They did out rebound Miami
thanks to eleven offensive rebounds by the Clippers. Really, but
some of those are just on gimmes on misses like
it eats Zuba's missing his own shot tipping it in.
(09:28):
He only had nine points on four of nine shooting.
In a game like this, where the offense was a
struggle at times, I would have liked to see them
get Zoo involved a little bit more, but a frustrating
one Cliper nations. They followed three and three now and
Kauhi is twenty seven and they lose. He needed that
thirty spot. I would have got on the win on
(09:49):
that long jumper at the end. They fall by one
to Miami one, twenty to one nineteen. Quick time out.
We'll come back and get through the rest of this
post game and take your call on a five seventy
LA Sports eight sixty six nine eight seven two five

Speaker 3 (10:26):
Clippers dropped to five hundred at three and three as
they lose one twenty to one nineteen at home to
the Miami Heat. This one burns Kawhi Leonard at twenty
seven ten of twenty one shooting, but missed another potential
game winner tough fallaway that was short as it looked
like he was getting tired. This Clippers team. Look, if
(10:51):
there's a positive here, it's that your conditioning is gonna
get up after.
Speaker 2 (10:55):
You play the Miami Heat because they make you run.
Speaker 3 (10:57):
They're first in phase, the Clippers last, and the Clippers somehow,
they had an eleven point lead with about a minute
to go at the end of the second quarter, and
you know who burned them from the Miami Heat, Noran
Powell a six to zero run. That was a big
swing right there. You could go up eleven heading into
(11:20):
the half, or be up just five. Noran Powell gets
his revenge twenty one points on just ten shots, seven
of seven from the charity stripe, and the Clippers fall
by one. Final box score numbers Kawhi Leonard with twenty
seven on ten of twenty one, shooting two of eight
from the outside, two turnovers, Dereck Jones Junior five of six,
(11:44):
one of two from three to twelve points. When they
really had it going in the first half after being
down twelve to two early, Derreck Jones Junior helped get
them back into it. If Viza Zuba's four of nine,
that nine number, that's gonna bother me. Eighteen boards but
just nine points. He only got nine shots. Bradley Beal
(12:06):
five of eight twelve points did get the double figures.
My player to watch said he'd get there. This was
I think his best game. He looked the most comfortable
out there, still playing just twenty minutes. James Harden with
twenty nine eight of fifteen, six of ten, but seven
turnovers to eight assists. That's not the ratio you're looking
(12:27):
for and a couple of key turnovers late CP three
three points. Did hit a big three pointer after a
Chris Dunn offensive rebound. Who was spectacular and probably the
best player for the Clippers tonight with his energy. Yes,
he's just four of six with ten points, but two
of two from the outside, and he had multiple offensive
(12:49):
rebounds three steals for assists. His energy, I think they
might need it back on the starting lineup. John Collins
five of eleven, twelve points, two of five from the outside.
Brook Lopez just two of seven with five points. Nico
Batoum went scoreless. Clippers lose one twenty to one nineteen.
They fall here at home, first home loss of the
(13:10):
season at into a dome. The Dome is home. We'll
be back here tomorrow taking on the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Tip Off is at eight o'clock, pregame show starting at
seven Outside of Los Angeles, we are leaving you until
then in LA do not go anywhere. We got Clippers
Talk next.
Speaker 1 (13:32):
Welcome in the Clippers Talk, the official postgame show of
the Clippers on the LA Clippers Audio Network. Clad up
the phones and make your feelings. No now your host
for Clippers Talk, It's Adam Auslang.
Speaker 3 (13:52):
Slippers lose one twenty to one, nineteen hear it into
a dome, their first loss of the season here and
they're three and three. The Miami Heat take them down
and Norman Powell get some revenge with his twenty one points.
Kawhi had twenty seven, but had a long jumper to
win it. Not to be this time. Clippers lose a
(14:14):
heartbreaker in a game where they didn't play very well offensively,
having twenty one turnovers, nine of them unforced, at least
because the Miami Heat had twelve steals. I'm out of Moslin.
If you'd like to get on tonight, We're on AM
(14:34):
five seventy LA Sports. As the Dodgers season concluded, back
to back world champion Dodgers now so love to them.
His big brother, Jake Warner, I know, is still on
a high after what happens Saturday night in Game seven,
but We'll be on a five to seventy the rest
(14:56):
of the way till spring training eight six, six nine
than two five seventy. This Clippers team had chances to
dig one out of the dirt, despite how poorly they
played at times, and it started early. They got down
quickly once again. And I don't know if coach, who's
gonna wait for ten games to make a move because
(15:19):
this trend defensively, especially in the first quarter, ain't going anywhere.
Miami had a ten to zero run to make it
twelve to two early and the Clippers just looked like
they were stuck in first gear. And there is a
guy on this team that completely changed the complexion of
(15:41):
this game with his energy when he came in in
the third quarter after the Clippers started that half slow
as well. And that's Chris Dunn. And I'm just wondering
while everybody else is talking about John Collins needs to
being the starting lineup, and hey, I'm fine with that,
never been against it. But tired is get Collins into
(16:05):
the starting lineup. That's old news, wired, is get Chris
Donne back in the starting lineup to me, because as
good as DJ has been, and he's been great so far.
There is an intangible with the spirit that Chris Donne
plays with that reminds everybody else how hard they have
to play out there. Set it all the time with
(16:28):
Patrick Beverley in a different building, Chris Donne energized them
the offensive rebounds, the steals, the scrap, the fight. I
think they need a reminder. He came in for Beale
(16:52):
in the third quarter and just got to work a
three pointer their first field goal in three minutes, to
make it a ten point game. Then had a crazy
bank shot where I think he was looking for a
Visa Zubas but got it to go. But it's really
(17:14):
about what he's able to do with those little things,
those tipouts leading to a CP three three pointer, the intangibles,
the heart, the hustle. As Brian Seaman would say, I'll
take heart over height any day. He said that a
lot for Patrick Beverly. I'm sure he's been saying it
(17:35):
for Chris Dunne. His defense was so good, but that
tip out he had to get it to CP three
to tie the game at one to oh five and
get the Clippers on an eight to zero run early in.
Speaker 2 (17:51):
The fourth quarter was special.
Speaker 3 (17:54):
It was a hard miss on a three to a
Chris Done tip out to CP three to finish off
an eighto run by the Clippers and tie the ball
game up at one oh five, and then he and
brook Lopez come together to create a turnover. Those two
have been working pretty good defensively. Anybody with CP three will,
(18:17):
but brook Lopez a very good defender in his own right.
The Done steal on Bam leading to the Collins dunk
to make it one oh seven to one oh five.
These are winning plays that spark the team. He's a
catalyst for that, and maybe they need it to start games,
(18:38):
to start halves, and they can't wait to get down
ten because it's been happening far too often in first quarters.
And now you've got Okay Se coming in tomorrow, and
if you have twenty one turnovers against them, you're not
winning the ball game either. This was a matchup of
contrasting styles. The Clipper there's slowest pace in the NBA,
(19:02):
the Thunder fastest pace. Excuse me, the heat fastest pace.
Thunder play at a fast pace too, but the heat
of turn things around with their offense and the way
they're doing things. They're playing at the fastest pace in
the NBA that's typically not Eric Spolster's style. They're adapting
and they don't have Tyler Hero, so they need more
(19:23):
ball movement. They need to get more easy buckets out there,
get them in transition. But this Clippers team, despite the
twenty one turnovers, still could have won this ball game
because they're that talented. The Kawhi fall away on a
complete bailout broken play the three point thirty seven mark
(19:46):
to tie the game at one thirteen on the right
base line was incredible. What a shot. James Harden hitting
a three pointer to tie it at one sixteen from
way out huge shot, had a couple of those that's
(20:07):
individual greatness, but not necessarily great offense. Harden also had
a bad pass to a cutting Kauhi that was turnover
twenty At the two thirty eight mark.
Speaker 2 (20:17):
Of the fourth.
Speaker 3 (20:20):
Kawhi fell to the floor. Wiggins got a three as
Kawhi was tying his shoe. May have rolled his ankle.
We're gonna have to check on that post game. But
it wasn't just the final shot that I didn't love.
After the Clippers were down one twenty to one sixteen,
because Bam went to the line and the Clippers didn't
(20:42):
get a great whistle, but Bam got fouled by Zubats
going left hit both Clippers down four, Kawhi took a
deep three on the right wing. It was short, it
was well defended by Wiggins. Bam misses one, Harden hits
another three Clippers within one nineteen point five seconds left
(21:02):
and they pull it off. They get Done back in
the ball game to have him DJ Kawhi out. There
was Zubots and Harden and Zoo and Done corraled Norman
Powell to cause a jump ball between Zubots and Powell,
a mismatch. They win it. Kawhi has Norm on him,
(21:28):
help comes tries. I don't know if it ended up
being a three pointer, but in a game you're down
by one with that much time left, it wasn't a
great shot.
Speaker 2 (21:40):
It was a three pointer.
Speaker 3 (21:44):
Type of shot you take when you're tired, you don't
feel like getting to the basket. Maybe and it was
just individual hero ball. Now he was the hero Friday night,
But remember that all happened because the Pelicans were scrambling.
DJ almost lost the basketball. It was chaotic. He flipped
(22:05):
it to Kawhi. There was no time he had to
take it. Nothing to think about money. This was you
have sixteen point five seconds left. The Clippers had a timeout,
they didn't use it. They win the jump, they slowly
walked the ball into the front court. I understand they
(22:26):
didn't have a time out Friday night and Coach Low
didn't use it, and their offense executed and they got
it done. Tonight, I might have taken that time out.
It's Miami, and the way the Clippers were quote unquote
generating offense was mostly just your turn, my turn. James
Harden and Kawhi it just wasn't great. Yes, they are
(22:48):
two of the better ISO players out there, but Kawhi
settled for a tough, long three pointer down one. You
get a better shot than that. They could have ran
a play out of a timeout. Is it the reason
(23:11):
they lost the game? No, it's one possession, But they
could have salvaged the game had they executed better. There
a game where they had twenty one turnovers leading to
thirty seven points. They could have found a way even
when they weren't their best. That's what's frustrating tonight, because
you're gonna have to win a lot of games where
(23:32):
you don't play great. Friday night was an example. They
didn't play great, they still won it the heat on
a back to back. Now, the Clippers were on the
front end of a back to back and after playing
the fastest team in the league that got them into
a track meet, which the Clippers won that battle. At times,
I don't know what the residual effect is going to be.
(23:52):
I don't know if we already saw it tonight with
tired legs, just to start the third quarter, after everything
they had to do to take the lead at the half,
to get up by five after being down by ten early.
I don't know what that's gonna do to them. You'd
think they're gonna be gas tomorrow. Is Kawhi gonna play
We don't know. He said he was good for back
to backs. He's fully healthy, But coach lu said they're
(24:15):
gonna have to see after the game as they should.
I mean, I said last year I don't think Kawai
should ever play it back to back again. Now, I'm
not a doctor, and that was still with him. That
was before he returned. Whatever they think is best, do so.
(24:36):
But at the time I'm like, could you blame him?
I guess if he never played another back to back.
Given all the injuries that have happened, No, there have
been so many. Unfortunately, if anybody deserve some load management,
it would be Kawhi. He's had real injuries, but this
(24:58):
summer he didn't have surgery for one healthy at he's
been in a summer in five years. So we'll see
quick time out. I'll bring your postgame audio and comments
from coach lou and the players after they lose one,
twenty to one nineteen here At into a Dome, first
home loss for the Clippers. They dropped to three and three.
(25:19):
They lose to the Miami Heat. I'm out of Maslin
and you're listening to Clippers talk here on I seventy
LA Sports.
Speaker 1 (25:31):
This is LA Clippers Basketball LA clips heard exclusively on
the LA Clippers Audio Network.
Speaker 3 (25:40):
Clippers lose one twenty to one to nineteen was your final?
Here At into a Dome. Clippers drop one to the
Miami Heat. They shoot fifty percent from the field, seventeen
to forty one from the outside, So what's the problem.
Twenty one turnovers leading to thirty seven points Miami and
(26:01):
in that third quarter again, the Clippers only had six
turnovers in the first half. They had six turnovers in
the first three minutes of the third quarter. It ended
up being nine. It led to seventeen points off of
those nine turnovers in the third Clippers lost that quarter
by thirteen. You're up by five and a half. It
(26:22):
should have been more. They gave up an a one
and a three to Northern pal to end the second
quarter when they were up by eleven, and then you
start the third quarter stuck in mud. Just bring the
chains out. Do something. I don't know what needs to
(26:42):
be done for this team to start halves quicker, but
it's likely going to be something to the starting lineup.
And while everybody's talking about John Collins, and I'm fine
with that, I'm talking about Chris Dunn now too, because
I've seen this in multiple games where he has flipped
things around for them. It happened against Phoenix two for
(27:03):
their first win. Chris Dunn's energy is infectious. It is
about the little things in the hustle plays with him.
He reminds them why they were a top three defense
last season. So I don't think this is just about
(27:25):
John Collins and he cures everything. And remember we heard
from La Murray that They're still trying to get him
up to speed, according to the coaching staff, and his
minuce will increase when they cut down to a nine
man rotation. Coach Lou said that pregame, it's natural that
will happen. He still played twenty five tonight, had twelve points,
(27:46):
five to eleven shooting. I wouldn't say he had a
great game on the defensive end either, but you have
two energy guys with him and Chris Dunn, and that's
something you can rely on, that motor from both of them.
They only know one way to play. For a team
this old, that looks like they're just dragging themselves up
(28:07):
the floor at times. Now give them credit. It may
have been to their detriment, but they did play fast
in the first half and they retook the lead, regained
the lead, and turned things around after being down by
ten early. A lot of that was Kawhi with that
first quarter where he had fifteen and he was uber
(28:28):
aggressive and I love seeing that and remained aggressive, took
twenty one shots. I just didn't love that last shot
or the last two shots from him on the right wing,
but they weren't generating many good looks, so it's gonna
be a hero ball with him and James Harden. They
can do it, but it's harder later in the game
(28:52):
when fatigue is setting in. Zubas wasn't getting involved much
and with Beal not playing heavy minutes yet, he's missed
Layton ball games that threat. Beal had some plays in
this game that were very encouraging to me. He's coming around.
(29:15):
It's still taking time. He played some good defense at times.
He made some scrappy plays. Now he did have a
turnover right away where he left his feet looking for
each to Zoobost and said my bad, but then had
a jumper to make it twenty to fifteen. In the
first I think they were still down. I mean they
had a sixteen to three run. That first quarter was incredible.
(29:38):
You want to talk about a game of runs. So
it was a twelve to Miami run to start, then
a sixteen three Clippers run, then a seventeen to seven
Miami run after that. But anyways, Beal in the second quarter,
he took a coast to coast at the eight to
thirty mark for a layup like seeing that. Then he
(30:01):
had a steal in a bucket that made it fifty
four and fifty four to fifty two. Did miss two
free throws at the four minute mark of the second quarter.
Speaker 2 (30:11):
That wasn't great to see.
Speaker 3 (30:12):
Third quarter, he had a couple of threes from the
far side corner where he was setting up shop. One
made his seventy nine seventy seven. Clippers, they need a
I don't know how long he's on the minister restriction.
We'll see what we got from Coach lou coming up
quick time out here. We'll get your phone calls eight
(30:33):
six six ninety eight seven two five seventy eight sixty
six ninety seven two five to seventy. But the Clippers
are staring at being three and four if they lose
this game tomorrow against Oklahoma City, who hasn't lost yet
this season and are far from healthy and playing their
best basketball as well. They haven't been hitting threes, so
I'm sure they'll be due for a game shooting wise
(30:53):
from the outside against the Clippers tomorrow. This is a
huge game. After the Clippers dropped one tonight one twenty
to one nineteen. I'm outa maslin and you're listening to
Clippers talk here on the M five seventy LA Sports.
Speaker 1 (31:10):
This is LA Clippers basketball the LA Clips Hurt exclusively
on the LA Clippers Audio Network.
Speaker 3 (31:18):
Clippers lose once twenty to one to nineteen. Here it
into a dome to the Miami Heat. Welcome back in.
I'm out of Maslin. This is Clippers. Talk with you
till eleven o'clock tonight. You're on the M five seventy
LA Sports. We're back on the ten thousand and watt
flamethrower or whatever it's called. And we got long reach
like giannis Is Dennakoopo, who did hit a game winner
(31:40):
tonight with Milwaukee Bucks. Unfortunately, Kawhi couldn't be the hero tonight.
Coach Lou said postgame he didn't get the shot he wanted.
And Coach Lu said postgame the reason he didn't call
a time out is because he didn't want Eric Spolser
to be able to set up their defense, which is fair.
Eric Spoltro might be the best coach in the league,
so he Coach Lou, Steve Kerr, the Olympic guys, I
(32:07):
could see why you wouldn't want to do that. That's logical,
that's rational. I know some of you guys aren't gonna
like it, but you can't tell me there isn't thought
to that move like that is not just coaching malpractice
or whatever you guys want to say. It is understandable
(32:27):
not to want to give Eric Spolsira a timeout to
set up his defense. So look, in that case, could
Kawai get a better shot? You're down one, you don't
need to take a three. But he's probably feeling it.
(32:48):
He's got twenty seven. You just hit the game winner
on Friday night? Can you blame him? He had a
good fourth quarter overall. He hit a ridiculous fade away
on the bright baseline on a broken play the Clippers
had no business scoring on. He and James Harden were
about to win this game on just individual isolation brilliance.
(33:11):
And that's a tough thing to do, especially against the
Miami defense that came into this game ranked third. But
it's also not a long term sustainable thing. Or would
say much about how this Clippers offense is really humming
right now. If you just have to rely on your
two superstars all the time, how well or how much
(33:31):
of a well oiled machine do you really have? Guys,
you can blame coach Lou all you want. I'm gonna
encourage you to actually watch the tape from the third
quarter and all those nine turnovers. Do you think coach
Lou asked for that? Those turnovers are inexcusable, at least
(33:53):
seven or eight of them. This wasn't about Miami. This
was the Clippers coming out looking lifeless. Don't know if
they were tired, mental fatigue and set in lead to
turnovers like that, But coach Lou is not on the
floor turning the ball over left and right. The offensive
fouls they had at least two of them in the
(34:14):
third quarter. The Clippers absolutely took their foot off the
gas after leading by five and a half and really
ended that second quarter. I didn't like how they played
at the very end of it. I thought that could
come back to haunt them. You're up by eleven, it's
(34:38):
seventy one to sixty with a minute oh four left,
Norman Powell gets an a one, James Harden takes a
three pointer. I don't think it was a great shot,
and Norman Powell then gets fouled on a three pointer.
I'd say that was the only mistake Chris Done made tonight.
(35:00):
Norm Powell in that three pointer. So it's a six
to l normOn Powell run to in the second quarter
instead of being up eleven year five. It's the little
thing sometimes, and everybody in the chat saying I won't
call out coach Lou. I already said when the show
started I would have called a time out there, But
(35:23):
is it not fair to combat that with saying, well,
you're also giving Eric Spulsure a time out. Maybe you
don't want that. I think that's that's that's logical, that's rational,
that's a reasonable position to have I call out Coach
Lou and I think is warranted. You guys could call
(35:47):
in and debate me on that. I'm fine with it.
Alan leaving the game, leaving the swell, Alan, you're on
clipper Stock without a miles and what's up Allan?
Speaker 6 (36:01):
Hi Adam. One thing you haven't brought up is is
that really all we're going to get from Brook Lopez
offensively is sometimes a clearer three point shot, sometimes a
contested three point shot. I mean, it's beautiful when it works,
but isn't there more to this offense from him?
Speaker 3 (36:20):
I mean, well, they want him out there to space
the floor and he's been a thirty, right, but.
Speaker 6 (36:28):
If he misses those shots, then you don't have that
big guy rebounding.
Speaker 3 (36:34):
It's fair. He was hot. He has been struggling in
the last few games. He was two of seven and
one of six from the outside for just five points tonight.
I get it, but he also has to make better
decisions out there. I thought he rushed some shots when
(36:54):
the Clippers offense was a one pass offense. Some of
those were just three pointers that were exactly in rhythm
from brook Lopez. I don't think he had a great
game anything.
Speaker 6 (37:06):
I mean, listen, I'm not familiar. I didn't watch him
a lot. But if he's not getting the shout, what
does he doesn't he have a game where he doesn't
take the shot, he takes a couple of dribbles and
gets closer.
Speaker 5 (37:18):
I don't know.
Speaker 6 (37:19):
I mean, it's maybe.
Speaker 3 (37:19):
I don't think brook Lopez is gonna dribble it from
the three point lines of the basket very often. I
don't think you asked that from Biggs very often. There's
a few bigs that do that in the NBA. I
don't think brook Lopez is one of them. What else
does he do well? He's one of the better room
protectors in the league and one of the better defenders.
Speaker 2 (37:34):
That's what that's what else he does.
Speaker 3 (37:37):
And easily their best backup center since as a Hardenstein,
I appreciate the phone call. Alan, Uh, let's go to
Mike in l A Mike Aaron Clipper. Stop with that,
a mauzzle?
Speaker 5 (37:46):
What's up?
Speaker 3 (37:48):
Mike?
Speaker 2 (37:49):
No, he's here. Hello.
Speaker 5 (37:50):
Can you hear me?
Speaker 2 (37:52):
Hear me?
Speaker 3 (37:52):
Mike drop?
Speaker 2 (37:53):
I got you, Mike, Okay?
Speaker 5 (37:55):
Yeah. The uh the turn o version or an issue
last year and they've been an issue, you know, really,
I mean forever. I just I don't know what they
do to fix it.
Speaker 3 (38:08):
I mean, well, the turnovers have to be fair. Once
Kawai came back last season, the turnovers were down to
like thirteen or less a game. They became one of
the better teams taking care of the basketball, which I
expected to happen because so much was asked of James
Harden earlier in the season. He had to force some things.
When Kawhi came back, they figured that out. What's the
(38:31):
excuse right now? Maybe there isn't one. Maybe it's early
in the season and they have four new players that
they're trying to integrate and that's part of it. I
don't know.
Speaker 5 (38:41):
I mean with this tonight. I mean, you don't want
to call a game, you know, game six of the
of the season a must win, but I mean it
felt like almost as much of a must win given
you know, OKAC tomorrow night, which I mean, you know, I.
Speaker 3 (38:57):
Understand, Mike really tough. They are a machine. I appreciate
the phone call. So there was more of an importance
on this game tonight for the Clippers to win this one. Okay, see,
he's gonna be favored tomorrow. Clippers got to find a
way to get it. More on that coming up quick
time out here on Clippers talk about a Maslim. They
lose one twenty to one nineteen with an interesting shots
(39:21):
selection down the stretch and turnovers galore.
Speaker 6 (39:27):
They have.
Speaker 3 (39:30):
To put more of a priority on taking care of
the basketball. I don't know what's gonna take right now
about a Maslin. You're listening to AM five seventy LA Sports.
Speaker 1 (39:46):
This is LA Clippers Basketball, the LA Clippers Heart exclusively
on the LA Clippers Audio Network.
Speaker 3 (39:56):
Clippers lose one twenty to one nineteen to the Miami Heat.
He already into its home. They dropped a three and
three first home loss of the season. Welcome back I'm
Adam Mosland. This is Clippers tck here on a five
seventy LA Sports eight sixty six ninety seven two five
seventies the phone number. Kawy Leonard did admit to turning
(40:17):
his ankle late in the ballgame. He'll see how he
feels in the morning, and I'm guessing he the training staff,
the doctors, and the coaching staff will get together and
make that decision on whether or not he plays the
back to back. But the Clippers dropped the front end
of this back to back home back to back. Tomorrow
(40:38):
they have THEKC Thunder at late o'clock, an eight o'clock
tip off, seven o'clock pregame show. Interesting timing, but it's
the Tuesday night games now on NBC that start late
on the West Coast. Clippers in another one of those
after just a sloppy care turnover fest, more turnovers than
(41:02):
a Porto's Bakery on a Sunday twenty one leading to
thirty seven points. You're not gonna win basketball games like that.
The Miami Heat had sixteen lean to twenty five for
the Clippers. That's a good number for them, but five
more turnovers and they all came in the second half
of the most part, sixteen of them third quarter, specifically
nine of them, leading to seventeen of those thirty seven
(41:26):
points off turnovers just can't happen. They got beat up
in the paint as well Miami. He'd had fifty eight
points the Clippers forty eight. Part of that is because
beats Zoubots wasn't exactly included four of nine got up
nine shots. I don't know if that's enough. Gotta be honest,
(41:47):
I think Zoo is their third most important player when
they're healthy. I think part of the defensive loos sometimes
are because you don't feed your big man on the
offensive end. Not to say Zoo wasn't good on the
defensive end, and yet they only credited him with one block.
I saw he had two blocks on Norman Powell alone.
(42:10):
Maybe one was redirect But Slippers perimeter defense hasn't been
as good. Chris Dunn may have to start at some point.
That's becoming a thought for me. At least, it's not
just about John Collins. Chris Dunn has single handedly turned
games around back in their favor. They weren't able to
(42:31):
win this one, but he gave them a chance. He
helped turn around the game. I want to say against
Phoenix here, just electricity running through him onto the court,
per meeting throughout his teammates. When he's out there, you
see a guy play that hard, you gotta play harder.
Quiet a couple of brilliant defensive plays as well. He
(42:51):
had four steels coming off a six steal game. But
Chris done the offensive rebounds. When you see you a
little guy like that, get up for tip outs or
pull down offensive rebounds and grab a few more possessions
in a game where the Clippers actually got up five
(43:11):
more shots because they had eleven offensive rebounds to just
six for Miami. Even with having five more turnovers than Miami,
Clippers somewhat made up for it. They tried to at
least with offensive rebounds, and I give Chris Dunn a
lot of credit there. Beat Zubos as well, had five.
Some were off of his own miss though his own missus.
(43:35):
Clippers lose this when I'm looking for more postgame audio,
but I think we got another phone call before we break.
Ray and Torrance Ray, you're on Clippers stock with that,
am Auzen Hi Ray.
Speaker 7 (43:45):
Hey, Hey Adam, this was a tough game. I was
real excited Megsican Herry tonight, I'm a betan American and
brought one of my twin boys. They've been watching the
Clippers that they were toddlers, and they have been why
try Lou fired for a few years and I defend
them every night, But tonight I agree with them that
(44:06):
there was a coach email practice. You I saw coach
so sp twice tonight jump off the half court the
call time act when he saw stuff that was going
down wrong. And when that on day you got.
Speaker 3 (44:19):
Coach Loo didn't call time out early in the game
when he saw something going wrong because I saw.
Speaker 7 (44:23):
That, not like I know, well when there was something,
I didnt think jump in the middle of the court.
Liked twice.
Speaker 3 (44:31):
About actual game plan, schematic things that coach Lou did
wrong tonight. Why is he responsible for twenty one turnovers?
Speaker 7 (44:39):
He should well that was what was that? But he
responded to the end of the game where they could
have won that game.
Speaker 3 (44:43):
The only responsible that game.
Speaker 7 (44:47):
He did not call the time out. He did not
jump in the middle of the court to stop that game.
Speaker 3 (44:51):
Like so you understand postgame he said, the reason I
didn't call it is because I didn't want Eric Spolser
to get a time out as well to set up
his defense. You don't think that's logical. You're crediting Eric
Spulsuer apparently for being so great. Coach Lou didn't want
to give him more time to plan.
Speaker 7 (45:09):
Oh he gave him too much credit, because I think
he could have done more when any of that game.
Speaker 6 (45:13):
I really do.
Speaker 7 (45:14):
He he coaches his coach throw on the US team,
so I don't know what he's worried about. And I think,
look what happened there. He shot a three point game,
a three point shot that was horrible, and that it.
Speaker 3 (45:24):
Was So we're not putting any blame on Kawhi and
taking that shot.
Speaker 2 (45:28):
It's all about coach Li.
Speaker 7 (45:29):
I a giving but like your coach is supposed to
stop that stuff.
Speaker 3 (45:34):
So I think, with all due respect, I think you
have to put some blame on players.
Speaker 7 (45:40):
I do, and I I do. I do blame Kawhi,
but I blame the coach more on this on this circumstance,
because he wasn't. I thought he was feeling too good
about himself. It was gonna go make that shot, a
three point shot that was horrible, all right, So I
thought tonight. Coach was not was not up to his game.
Speaker 3 (45:55):
I thought they I think it was far from perfect tonight.
I also think the player are the ones who turned
it over twenty one times, and I don't think that's
a coaching plan for them to do. They didn't going
to go into the ball game and say, guys, this
is what we're gonna do. This is why we're gonna
turn the ball over. This is I just thought there
were so many sloppy turnovers, and you gotta blame players
for stuff like that. If you want to say they
(46:17):
should call time out, that's cool. I'm just gonna say
it's not crazy to not call time out when Eric
Spolsuer's on the other side, and therefore he gets to
set up his defense quick time out. I'll call one,
we'll come back, we'll close things out. Clippers lose one
twenty to one nineteen to the Miami Heat here and
into it Dome. Clippers dropped to three and three. I'm
(46:38):
at a Moslin and you're listening to a five seventy.
Speaker 2 (46:41):
This is Clipper stock, this.
Speaker 1 (46:50):
Is LA Clippers basketball. LA Clippers Hurt exclusively on the
LA Clippers Audio Network.
Speaker 3 (46:57):
Clippers lose one twenty to one nineteen when they fall
by one as Kawhi Leonard misses a long three pointer
on the right wing. Couldn't be the heroes to night
like he was on Friday Night. Clippers dropped three and
three on the season. They lose to the Miami Heat.
Tomorrow they welcome in the Oklahoma City Thunder, who uh
checks notes are undefeated so far while missing players, while
(47:22):
missing everything from the outside to start the season, it
doesn't matter because the Thunder have the most reliable thing
in sports that saves them, and it's spectacular defense.
Speaker 2 (47:34):
Always.
Speaker 3 (47:35):
They always bring it defensively every single game. And when
you're that good defensively, you can win a lot of
ball games. Clippers last season win the third best defense,
and that's probably the biggest reason why they won fifty games.
They haven't looked like that so far. The guy who
started the majority of those games last season was Chris Dunn.
(47:59):
I'm wondering if they need to bring him back into
the into the starting lineup to regain that defensive identity
because he plays harder than just about anybody you'll see,
and the Clippers need a reminder of how to play defensively.
They gave him one twenty to night one hundred and
(48:21):
twenty four. I think Friday night they have not been stout.
And then you compound that by turning the basketball over,
letting Miami get in the transition. Hey, you're probably gonna
lose a ball game, but twenty one turnovers leading.
Speaker 2 (48:38):
To thirty seven points they did one.
Speaker 3 (48:40):
Twenty one nineteen was your final Clippers fall to the heat.
Tomorrow night tip off is at eight. Hear It into
