Hi, this is Carol Miller. Welcome to our Get the
Letout calendar. On March thirtieth, nineteen seventy, Led Zeppelin interrupted
their own show at Pittsburgh Civic Arena. They sensed trouble
between the crowd and police, so they forced an intermission.
Jimmy Page said, quote, we couldn't play with that sort
of friction, so we just stopped playing. When we went

back on stage after five or ten minutes, there was
no trouble. What we were finding so often on this
tour of the States is that it ends up with
us having to cool things down. And that's Jimmy Page unquote.

Somebody, and we could sobody else's way, all right. On
March thirty first, nineteen sixty nine, a musical variety show
in Sweden incorporated the studio appearance of Le Zeppelin, filmed

two and a half weeks earlier. The only way Led
Zeppelin could promote themselves in Sweden was if they played
along to the album recording of a song, and Robert
Plants case he mined the vocals. Jimmy Page recalls.

Speaker 2 (01:13):
The only time that we ever mined, and this piece
of footage from Sweden appeared. We went to the studio
to actually do a live recording, and they sort of
condas because by the time they got there with all
the equipment, they said, we haven't got a sound engineer,
so we didn't want to lease the opportunity of promoting
communication breakdown. So there we are sort of mining communication
and we're basically as assaying and taking the piss, and

it's quite interesting what's going on there.

Speaker 1 (01:39):
Fifty five years ago, on April first, nineteen seventy one,
Led Zeppelin performed an hour long show recorded for the
British Broadcasting Corporation the BBC at the tail end of
their back to the club's gigs in England. They played
in London at the Paris Cinema Theater. Jimmy Page was
initially disappointed that the BBC's recording used only two tracks

and not eight, so he returned to London and remixed
the audio more to his liking the sound. On April second,

nineteen seventy three, Led Zeppelin completed their month long tour
of Europe with a second show in the suburbs of Paris.
They played only one acoustic song, and that was Bronnie
or Stomp. John Bonham modeled the stomping and also showed
off his vocal chops, harmonizing with Robert Plant. Zeppelin's next

two US tours skipped acoustic songs altogether. This was their
last Broni or stamp for two years, but they revived
it both for the Earl's Court shows in seventy five
and the final US tour in seventy seven. On April third,
nineteen seventy seven, Led Zeppelin played the second show of
their US tour at the Myriad in Oklahoma City. They'd

gone two years without playing live. They staged zero warm
up gigs ahead of their American tour, despite needing it.
Robert Plant's recent bat with laryngitis made them postpone by
four weeks. All their musical equipment spent those four weeks
in America ahead of led Zeppelin's arrival. A lack of
rehearsal showed when the PA system acted up, which Robert

called teething troubles.
