Hi, this is Carol Miller. Welcome to our get the
Letout calendar. Fifty years ago. On April sixth, nineteen seventy six,
Led Zeppelin's album Presence had just been released over that
past week, but no Zeppelin tour was in the works.
Manager Peter Grant had sent Bad Company to US arenas
supporting their third album run with the pack. Opening acts

had been ted. Nugent and Kansas Bad Company were hitting
Pittsburgh with Rush promoting twenty one twelve on tour with Zeppelin.
A year later, Robert Plant and Jimmy Page reminisced in
La about their unexpected presence at a Bad Company show.

Fifty five years ago. On April seventh, nineteen seventy one,
BBC Radio One presented for the second time a full
live session with led Zeppelin. This was Sounds of the Seventies,
hosted by John Peel. John Hutt also hosted the original
broadcast BBC in Concert with led Zeppelin. It was taped
within the week in front of an exclusive London crowd

of four hundred. Led Zeppelin got along with John Peel
as he interacted with them throughout the show.

On April eighth, nineteen seventy led Zeppelin played in Raleigh
on the second of two nights in North Carolina. They
had played in Charlotte the night before, but as far
as we know, nobody taped the show. A fan named
Susan taped Zeppelin and Raleigh. It's lucky that in twenty
twelve Susan backed up her tape from Without it, tape
collectors would not have heard anything from either North Carolina

show and we'd all miss out on a great version
of Jimmy Page's guitar instrumental White Summer. On April ninth,

nineteen seventy seven, Led Zeppelin went on stage as planned
at Chicago Stadium, even though Jimmy Page was not on
the best of shape, suffering from food poisoning. His guitar
playing on six songs ranged from brilliant to erratic. Chicago

fans were used to three hour stadium shows from Led Zeppelin,
just like on the past two shows, but after those
six songs, or about one hour's worth of music, Jimmy
passed out. Zeppelin show ended early sixty years ago. On
April tenth, nineteen sixty six, Robert Plant's band Listen was
mentioned in his area's Sunday Mercury newspaper. Before Robert joined

as the singer, guitarist John Crutchley and drummer Jeff Thompson
had called their band the Tennessee Teens. They adopted a
shorter name, Listen, because, as John told it, quote, we
were coming home from a date one night when we
gave a beatnik a lift in the car. He said,
we should have a one word name, and I hope
everyone will soon be listening to us. Unquote, you're trying
