Hi, this is Carol Miller. Welcome to our Get the
Letout calendar. On April twenty seventh, nineteen sixty nine, Led
Zeppelin completed a run of four shows in San Francisco
for promoter Bill Graham. Many consider these two sets from
the Filmore Auditorium a must listen. An Encore captures their
second straight night covering the blues song You Need Love.

On April twenty eighth, nineteen seventy seven, Led Zeppelin played
a second night at Richfield Coliseum in Ohio, located halfway
between Akron and Cleveland. This was Zeppelin's third show altogether
at the twenty thousand seat venue, including once on the
seventy five tour. On the first leg of the seventy
seven tour, Robert Plant made coded references at each of

the last two gigs about led Zeppelin having energy despite

Square Garden with his new band, The Firm. Bassist Tony
Franklin's first time playing the Garden included a five minute
solo at center stage. The next day, Tony learned his

Fretless bass hero Jacko Pastorius was playing at the Lone
Star Cafe, so Tony brought along two of his bandmates
from the Firm. Empty tables quickly filled up and it
was standing room only as Jimmy jammed with Jocko. On

April thirtieth, nineteen seventy seven, led Zeppelin played to their
largest ever stadium audience, seventy six two hundred and twenty
nine at the Silver Dome in Pontiac, Michigan. This was
a world record audience for any indoor show without opening acts.

and the crowd recognized it immediately. They cheered so loudly
it drowned out the rest. Next the tour had a
two and a half week pause built in. Led Zeppelin
expected to play to an even larger ninety thousand at

JFK Stadium in Philadelphia and the summer, but that show
never happened. On May first, nineteen sixty nine, Led Zeplin
played in Orange County, California, at Crawford Hall on the
campus of UC Irvine. This was the first of three
times Leigh Michaels opened for them in sixty nine. Lee
remembers a really memorable gig was in Orange County with

outdoor gigs. It was a great gig. Lee sang and
played keyboards, and his band had no guitarist.

I never assumed I was on those gigs because they
liked my music.

I assumed I was on those gigs because I had
no guitar in my band. I thought with Jimmy Page
likes that opening knack asmo guitarist since he was in
a couple of But that probably had nothing to do
with it.

Maybe they liked my music, but I couldn't imagine.
