Hi, this is Carol Miller. Welcome to our Get the
Leadout calendar. On June first, nineteen sixty nine, led Zeppelin
did mixing sessions at Juggie Sound in New York. They
prepared a rough mix of the song ramble On for
their second album. Plant had started writing led Zeppelin lyrics
and Rambalon mentions location Mortar and the evil character Gollum.

Both are references to the Lord of the Rings trilogy
and other fantasy works by the author J. R. R. Tolkien.
Robert explains his obsession with the hobbit called Frodo Baggins.

My little lyrical inserts were kind of Koy accessories because
at that time it was a whole generation of Americana
was into that, the whole idea of good triumphing over
evil in such a way by using naivety and using
central character like Frodo. Frodo Lives.

On June second, nineteen seventy three, led Zeppelin played a
daytime show at San Francisco's Golden Gate Park Kezar Stadium.
Kazar had welcomed nineteen thousand the week before for The
Grateful Dead. Led Zepp's total was fifty thousand. Lee Michaels
had previously opened for Led Zeppelin a few times. In
nineteen sixty nine, Promoter Bill Graham brought Lee back among

the supporting acts for Zeppelin at this memorable gig. What
there was a gig at Kizar Stadium in San Francisco,
which was amazing that the whole stadium was packed. There
was a zillion people. That was an amazing gig. In
the moment, Robert Plant told the audience that they had
been fantastic.

On June third, nineteen seventy seven, Bled Zeppelin attempted to
play an outdoor show at Tampa Stadium. After two songs,
Robert Plant promised less talking and more music, and the
crowd was very cheerful and his whole music about it right.

But the mood quickly changed within minutes as rain dumped everywhere.
A thunderstorm stopped the show, and soaking web fans vented
their frustrations, tearing the stadium apart. The bootleg title Billy
Clubs and Riot Gear alludes to the police response. Tampa
officials nixed the plans to restart led Zeppelin on a

sunnier day sixty years ago. On June fourth, nineteen sixty six,
the Yardbirds completed five days of recording sessions at Advision
Sound Studios in London. Their next album was originally titled
either simply The Yardbirds or Over Under, Sideways Down. Now
it's called Roger the Engineer, based off of the cover

was the sole lead guitarist on the album. Previous Yardbird
albums combined Jeff's work with Eric Clapton's from earlier. However,

bassist and co producer Paul Samuel Smith had left, replaced
by Jimmy Page. On June fifth, nineteen seventy, led Zeppelin
mix their first blues song, intended to have original lyrics.
In a session at London's Olympic Sound Studios, they decided
on the song title since I've Been Loving You. The
rough mix included lyrics Robert Plant had sung five months

When Zeppelin re recorded the song in Memphis, Robert left
out those recycled lyrics which were in his to begin with.
Blues singer Bobby Bland's second album, released in nineteen sixty two,
