Fifty years ago. On June twenty second, nineteen seventy six,
Sir Paul McCartney and Wings performed on the second of
three nights at the LA Forum. These final shows of
the four were captured for their live three LP set
Wings Over America. John Bonham had seen Wings the previous night.
Other luminaries in the audience included Ringo, Jack Nicholson, Dustin Hoffman,

Cher Elton, John Diana Ross, Robbie Robertson, Dennis Wilson of
the Beach Boys, and Harry Nilson. Exactly one year later,
Wings keyboard technician Ed Kolakowski was back at the LA Forum.
John Paul Jones had hired Ed to tune his Steinway
Grand Piano at every led Zeppelin gig in nineteen seventy seven.

Sixty years ago, on June twenty third, nineteen sixty six,
Jimmy Page played his second gig with the Yardbirds at
Mecca and Ashton Underline England. He'd picked up the bass
quickly to replace the yardbirds former bassist. First at the
Marquee Club in London. The Yardbird's rhythm guitarist, was also
learning bass, so that when he'd be ready to take over,

Jimmy could switch to playing a second lead guitar alongside
Jeff Beck. Jimmy soon said his wage with the Yardbirds
was quote about a third of what I have been
earning as a session manute. However, the Yardbirds soon afforded
Jimmy more creative outlets for playing guitar and prepared him
for led Zeppelin. On June twenty fourth, nineteen sixty nine,

Led Zeppelin recorded in London for the coming weekend's episode
of the BBC radio show Top Gear. Engineer Tony Wilson
at the studio made a veil permitted Led Zeppelin to
overdub parts for their new song What Is and What
Should Never Be? Zeppelin played the song together. At first,
Jimmy played rhythm guitar, leaving himself space to record the

guitar solo. Afterward, Robert Plant also laid down a secondary vocal,
allowing him to sing in unison with himself in some
places and to sing harmony in others. Unlike on Led
Zeppelin two, Robert sang through part of Jimmy's guitar solo

on June twenty fifth, nineteen seventy two, Led Zeppelin played
at the LA Forum in Inglewood, California. Two dates in
California were the end of a month long US tour
there and in Long Beach. Jimmy Page credits himself with
having the idea of recording those two West Coast shows.
Eddie Kramer captured the audio and Jimmy forgot about the

tapes for thirty years. Once he rediscovered them, Jimmy enlisted
mixer Kevin Shirley to help prepare them for Led Zeppelin's
second live album, but it was John Paul Jones who
coined the album title. It was my suggestion to do
this recording on the West Coast because we had plat
forums and of editing Dico.

On June twenty sixth, nineteen eighty one, Jimmy Page revisited
a recording from his twenty sixth birthday. It was We're
Gonna Groove, the opening song from Led Zeppelin show at
Royal Albert Hall in London. Jimmy was working on the
first posthumous led Zeppelin album and he planned to include
the live tape with some minor alterations, so he trieked

it at the Saul Studio in Cookham, Berkshire, England. Before
the final mix, Jimmy added a lot of new electric
guitar overdubs to replace the one guitar part he had
played live eleven years earlier.
