Hi, this is Carol Miller. Welcome to our Get the
leadout count. On June twenty ninth, nineteen sixty nine, a
national radio broadcast in England played four newly recorded songs
of led Zeppelins. That installment of top gear included the
radio premiere of Whole Lot of Love. For that song,
Jimmy Page put his sonic wave machine, also known as

his Thereman, into action and Robert Plant recalled some lyrics
from Mystery Trains. As the afternoon broadcast ended, the Royal

Albert Hall in London was getting ready to open its
doors for the first evening in a week long concert
series called the Pop Proms. The first headliner was led
Zeppelin on June thirtieth, nineteen eighty. Led Zeppelin's audience in Frankfurt,
West Germany was too noisy for Jimmy Page's liking. He
had the stage draw to himself for several minutes, playing
his solo guitar instrumental White Summer, but he couldn't concentrate.

Many in the crowd were not paying attention. Some were
holding conversations, others were cheering or shouting out requests. Jimmy
stopped playing altogether walked to the nearest microphone and asked
for some quiet.

it's very loud out there. I believe you. I can't
him myself play for the noise down here, It's true.

Only then did Jimmy proceed into Black Mountainside, and the
rest of led Zeppelin backed him for Kashmir. On July one,
nineteen seventy nine, Led Zeppelin rehearsed at Bray Studios near Windsor, England.
They hadn't played together since just before Christmas, when they
had finished recording a new album in Through the Outdoor
was still being prepared for release, but some limited shows

were now in the calendar, a pair of warm updates
in Denmark and the Nebworth Festival in in England. Led

night in Mannheim, West Germany. Manheim was the only stop
on that year's tour over Europe where led Zepplin played
