Speaker 1 (00:00):
Star 101.3, it's Marcus in the morning. Producer Taylor is here.
It's Thursday.
Speaker 2 (00:03):
Good morning.
Speaker 1 (00:04):
Happening right before 6 o'clock. Yesterday was wild.
Speaker 2 (00:08):
It was.
Speaker 1 (00:08):
The heat wave.
Speaker 2 (00:10):
Oh, my gosh. My apartment was so hot.
Speaker 3 (00:12):
I had every window open, fans going, everything, and I
could not find relief.
Speaker 4 (00:18):
I did the dumbest thing ever. I, for some reason,
had to cook a French-style slow-roasted chicken.
Speaker 2 (00:25):
What's wrong with you? Why can't you go out to
dinner like a normal person?
Speaker 3 (00:29):
Well.
Speaker 1 (00:30):
It wasn't going to be done fast enough.
Speaker 4 (00:31):
So I just bought the girls poke and they hid
in the master bedroom because it was 10 degrees cooler
in our master than it is anywhere else in the house.
Speaker 1 (00:39):
Meanwhile, dad was dinner for one roast to get chicken
for two hours.
Speaker 2 (00:44):
Why are you insane?
Speaker 4 (00:48):
My ADHD was off the charts and I had this
chicken in the fridge. And the only way that my
brain was going to be okay is if I executed
this recipe.
Speaker 1 (00:57):
It was delicious.
Speaker 3 (00:58):
But you could have waited till today. Like yesterday was
90 degrees. Who thinks, you know, it's a day for
slow roasted chicken.
Speaker 1 (01:04):
My brain needed it to be done. I can't explain it.
Speaker 2 (01:07):
Well, did you bring some in for us?
Speaker 1 (01:08):
No, I did not.
Speaker 2 (01:09):
See, this is where I have a problem.
Speaker 1 (01:12):
It didn't come out the way I wanted it to.
Speaker 2 (01:14):
Oh, you weren't proud of the presentation.
Speaker 1 (01:16):
Yes. So I'll be turning. Well, the good news is
I'll be turning it into chicken soup.
Speaker 2 (01:21):
Oh, so I still I do.
Speaker 1 (01:22):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:23):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:24):
OK, but just not today. I can't serve chicken soup
during a heat wave.
Speaker 2 (01:27):
That's true.
Speaker 1 (01:28):
That's insane.
Speaker 5 (01:29):
That.
Speaker 2 (01:29):
Yeah, that's over the top.
Speaker 4 (01:32):
Anyway, dude, three fire emergencies on the coast side yesterday
within six minutes.
Speaker 2 (01:37):
That sounds overwhelming.
Speaker 4 (01:38):
And the missus was involved in three of them. None
of them were like crazy, you know, tragic or anything.
They were just kind of funny. So she got home
and told me the story. That was Star 1013. It's
Marcus in the morning. Taylor's here as well.
Speaker 6 (01:54):
Good morning.
Speaker 1 (01:54):
It's Thursday.
Speaker 4 (01:57):
So she's at somebody's house picking up a couch, like secondhand,
off of a Facebook marketplace or something.
Speaker 5 (02:03):
Okay.
Speaker 4 (02:04):
And the CAL FIRE gets dispatched to the school because
the fire alarm went off.
Speaker 1 (02:12):
I'm guessing because it was so hot.
Speaker 4 (02:14):
Because fire alarms, you know this because your dad is
a former fire captain.
Speaker 1 (02:20):
The heat itself will set off a fire alarm. It
doesn't have to be smoke. So fire alarm gets pulled
at the school. That's A.
Speaker 4 (02:27):
So the fire truck is coming down Highway 1. The
person whose house she's picking up the couch at is
right on Highway 1. So she goes out front. As
the fire truck is going by, you know, everybody's pulling over. Well,
somebody pulled over behind somebody else too quickly. And nailed him.
Speaker 5 (02:48):
Oh.
Speaker 1 (02:49):
Like, what's that called when you hit something?
Speaker 2 (02:51):
Rear-ending?
Speaker 5 (02:51):
Yes. Rear-ended.
Speaker 1 (02:54):
Now another fire truck has to be called because now
we have an accident on Highway 1. That's 2.
Speaker 4 (02:58):
And then she gets another alert for another fire truck
on another part of town. Smoke at somebody's house. Friend
of hers. Husband's out making ribs in the backyard. And
the smoker's going too hot.
Speaker 5 (03:13):
Oh, okay.
Speaker 1 (03:15):
Three calls in six minutes.
Speaker 2 (03:17):
That sounds like a lot. The co-star had a day yesterday.
Speaker 1 (03:21):
Had a day.
Speaker 4 (03:22):
And then the guy, her, so her, her friend's husband
who happened to be smoking the ribs is also a
fire captain, low key in the South Bay.
Speaker 3 (03:31):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (03:32):
So, you know, the truck rolls up and you know
the rules. Once Cal Fire gets there, they have to inspect.
But he was like, you guys go home.
Speaker 1 (03:39):
Everything's fine. I'm making ribs in the backyard.
Speaker 2 (03:42):
Nothing to see here.
Speaker 1 (03:43):
Everybody piss off.
Speaker 3 (03:44):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (03:44):
So, and then another fire alarm went off at a
different school.
Speaker 2 (03:50):
Okay, now I'm overwhelmed just hearing this story.
Speaker 1 (03:53):
Dude, I felt so badly for Cal Fire yesterday. It
was so hot.
Speaker 3 (03:57):
No, I swear to God, like any day that is
super hot like that, I feel like the firemen just
get the worst.
Speaker 2 (04:04):
And then not only that, but they're wearing all this
heavy gear and it's so hot.
Speaker 1 (04:08):
How do they do that?
Speaker 2 (04:09):
Oh, you want to talk about SWAS?
Speaker 1 (04:10):
Yes.
Speaker 2 (04:12):
My dad was telling me about that this weekend.
Speaker 4 (04:15):
So taylor's dad is a former fire captain uh station
16 east side san jose story and king retired and
you guys were just talking about swass randomly well we.
Speaker 3 (04:27):
Were talking about we're talking about swass and then he's
like you want to talk about swass try.
Speaker 2 (04:31):
Wearing all this gear And then you're at a fire for.
Speaker 1 (04:34):
How do you train for that? Is the captain listening
right now?
Speaker 2 (04:37):
I hope he is. I'm sure he is.
Speaker 1 (04:38):
I wonder, I mean, do they do relays in full gear?
They must.
Speaker 2 (04:42):
They have to. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (04:43):
But that's young people stuff like that. They don't do
that when you're older. They do that when you're young
and ready to go.
Speaker 1 (04:49):
If you're the captain, you just parade around in your
dress blues, right?
Speaker 5 (04:52):
Exactly.
Speaker 2 (04:52):
That's why you're a captain. So you don't have to
do any of that stuff.
Speaker 1 (04:55):
Pointed stuff. I can't imagine being a firefighter yesterday. I
just can't.
Speaker 4 (05:00):
And all of these, and you're in heat all the
time anyway, because you're literally battling fires.
Speaker 1 (05:05):
I guess they're built for it.
Speaker 2 (05:07):
Swassville. I'm telling you.
Speaker 1 (05:11):
This took a turn.
Speaker 4 (05:14):
Anybody else have a fire alarm randomly go off just
because it was so hot yesterday?
Speaker 1 (05:19):
Give us an update on how your day went with
the heat wave and everything.
Speaker 4 (05:23):
It is still in effect. It's going to be less
hot today, but still very warm. Hives in the 90s inland.
The Talkback is open. If you're streaming Star 101.3 on
the iHeartRadio app, you can leave us a quick message.
Speaker 1 (05:36):
Can I go off for a second?
Speaker 3 (05:37):
Please.
Speaker 1 (05:39):
Okay. You know the terminology when you say, let him cook. Yes.
Speaker 2 (05:45):
Very familiar.
Speaker 4 (05:46):
So let him cook literally means let him do his
thing or her.
Speaker 1 (05:51):
Let them do their thing. They're getting better. They're leveling up.
Speaker 2 (05:54):
Yeah. It's a good thing.
Speaker 1 (05:56):
It's a good thing.
Speaker 2 (05:56):
Let them cook.
Speaker 1 (05:58):
But then to refer to somebody as cooked means they're over. Yeah,
it's bad. Or they're screwed.
Speaker 4 (06:05):
So like, why are you letting me cook to get cooked?
It doesn't make sense.
Speaker 2 (06:11):
Okay. But when you have cooked.
Speaker 6 (06:14):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (06:14):
Like essentially you're cooked. Like you have cooked. You are
done because it's cooked. So you're cooked.
Speaker 2 (06:20):
So it's over. But if you're cooking, that means you're
in the process.
Speaker 3 (06:25):
So you're like.
Speaker 1 (06:26):
But why are you going to let me cook if
I don't want to get cooked?
Speaker 2 (06:30):
Well, because.
Speaker 1 (06:31):
Like, you're not a good friend.
Speaker 3 (06:32):
Like, letting you cook, I would be a good friend. Now,
if I didn't let you cook, then I would be
a bad friend.
Speaker 1 (06:40):
But I don't want to cook because I don't want
to get cooked.
Speaker 3 (06:42):
No, well, just because you're cooking doesn't mean that you
get cooked. Like, they don't... That doesn't... One doesn't mean
the other, you know?
Speaker 1 (06:51):
But that's the endgame of getting cooked is... is then
you're cooked.
Speaker 3 (06:57):
Well, yes, but when you're cooking, it's different because you're cooking.
Speaker 1 (07:05):
At what point should I stop cooking?
Speaker 2 (07:07):
When you're cooked.
Speaker 1 (07:12):
This is hurting my brain this morning.
Speaker 2 (07:14):
I love this conversation.
Speaker 1 (07:15):
These are things that I think about on the way
to work. Like this makes zero sense. Nobody thought this through.
Speaker 3 (07:21):
Okay, but I would say that it's not like one
person decided this. Like it is that you are cooking
and I'm going.
Speaker 2 (07:30):
To let you cook.
Speaker 1 (07:31):
Why are you going to let me cook? That's not
a good friend. No.
Speaker 2 (07:34):
If I let you get cooked, then I would be.
Speaker 1 (07:37):
A bad friend. That's literally the definition of cooking.
Speaker 3 (07:40):
No.
Speaker 1 (07:41):
You know what?
Speaker 2 (07:42):
I actually don't know if you know the definition of cooking.
I haven't seen you do it in a while.
Speaker 1 (07:46):
Okay. All right, we got to let this go.
Speaker 2 (07:50):
I know, please.
Speaker 3 (07:51):
Now, here's what's trending in the Bay Area and beyond.
Speaker 4 (07:57):
Jennifer Lawrence has apparently joined Instagram.
Speaker 3 (08:02):
What?
Speaker 1 (08:02):
I like her as an actress. Jennifer Lawrence has joined Instagram. Oh.
Speaker 4 (08:05):
And I'm watching her account in real time. And it's
being famous is wild because she has no posts. There
is merely a picture of her getting her hair foiled.
And drinking a latte that some paparazzi took. That's her
profile pic. But I'm watching her get followers in real time.
In the last 25 seconds, she's gotten 20,000 followers.
Speaker 2 (08:29):
Is she verified?
Speaker 3 (08:30):
Oh, yeah.
Speaker 1 (08:32):
That's crazy.
Speaker 3 (08:33):
Is there like a meeting that they have about this?
Speaker 2 (08:35):
Where they're like, oh, I'm going on Instagram.
Speaker 1 (08:38):
Okay, so I have a neighbor.
Speaker 4 (08:40):
That's her job. Her job is to vet out fake followers.
famous people accounts. So like, you know, a Beyonce account
pops up.
Speaker 2 (08:47):
So I couldn't just be Beyonce.
Speaker 1 (08:49):
Correct. Dang it.
Speaker 4 (08:50):
That's her job is to give out the blue check
marks and to also then maintain the verified accounts and
make sure that there's nothing nefarious going on. But I just,
I just think being famous as well. Yeah, no, she
keeps ticking up. Being famous is crazy. She could just
fart out an Instagram account and then just 852,000 followers later, Geez. Meanwhile,
(09:11):
we're trying to make videos every single day and I
get one.
Speaker 2 (09:14):
Yeah, maybe one or two here and there.
Speaker 1 (09:18):
Let's see what else.
Speaker 4 (09:19):
So there have been some new bugs named after Swifties.
Taylor Swift has inspired a newly identified group of Australian
plant eating insects. They are now called Swiftie Phyllis after Swifties.
Speaker 2 (09:34):
This is so silly.
Speaker 4 (09:36):
With individual species referencing Taylor Swift. Lover, Fearless and the
Tortured Poets Department. This sentence makes no sense to me,
but maybe you can decipher. The bugs are even pale
yellow with red accents, which researchers say reminded them of
Taylor's style.
Speaker 3 (09:53):
No.
Speaker 1 (09:54):
What? Okay.
Speaker 2 (09:56):
Yeah I don't that doesn't make.
Speaker 4 (09:58):
Sense Lady Gaga is not secretly married despite the rumors
she and her man Mike have not secretly gotten married
they're still engaged still living in Malibu despite the other
rumor that they moved to Marin County.
Speaker 1 (10:12):
That would be wild.
Speaker 2 (10:13):
That would be crazy. Gaga and Marin.
Speaker 1 (10:15):
Just shows up in Kent Field randomly one day.
Speaker 2 (10:18):
She couldn't go outside.
Speaker 1 (10:19):
No, not at all. Let's see. Girl Scouts have announced
cookies for you and your dog.
Speaker 2 (10:26):
Cute.
Speaker 1 (10:27):
So two online-only treats for 2027.
Speaker 4 (10:30):
The new Sparkables vegan, gluten-free, oatmeal chocolate chip cookies. And
Patch Pals, which are blueberry muffin-flavored dog treats.
Speaker 2 (10:40):
That's awesome. I love that.
Speaker 1 (10:42):
First ever for pets.
Speaker 4 (10:42):
Both launching January 12th. That was disgusting.
Speaker 2 (10:47):
That was gross.
Speaker 6 (10:48):
Woo!
Speaker 4 (10:49):
Old man stuff going on over here. Apple unveiled its
first foldable phone, the iPhone Duo. 7.6-inch display. It's their
largest model ever. And split-screen multitasking. Retail starts at $ 199. 99.
That is a lot of nines. So two grand for
a phone.
Speaker 2 (11:09):
I mean, it's essentially like a foldable iPad.
Speaker 4 (11:12):
Sure.
Speaker 2 (11:12):
I guess I get it.
Speaker 4 (11:12):
Sounds great. Niner game tonight. Kickoff at 535. Let's go.
Speaker 1 (11:18):
And then we finish strong with Producer Taylor's Daily Poll.
What do you have?
Speaker 3 (11:20):
It is National Teddy Bear Day today. So we're asking,
do you still have a stuffed animal?
Speaker 2 (11:25):
Is it too many to count? Of course you do.
Probably somewhere in storage or no way.
Speaker 1 (11:31):
Can you count the number of stuffed animals you own
on two hands?
Speaker 3 (11:35):
No.
Speaker 5 (11:35):
No.
Speaker 2 (11:36):
And I don't even think four hands.
Speaker 1 (11:38):
I knew it.
Speaker 2 (11:39):
I have way too many.
Speaker 4 (11:40):
That pulls up right now. Star 101.3 FM up on Instagram.
Check the stories. It is Marcus in the morning. We
are back with second date update. Might as well just
get started. Bring Evan on the phone.
Speaker 1 (11:49):
Evan, are you there?
Speaker 3 (11:50):
Here. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (11:51):
I want to talk about your date with Molly because
according to your DM, she did go.
Speaker 1 (11:56):
So let's run through it. What'd you guys do?
Speaker 6 (11:57):
Well, We went to a restaurant in Burlingame, and the
date genuinely was great. I thought we had really good chemistry,
but I haven't really heard back from her. Don't know
what happened.
Speaker 1 (12:09):
Evan, let's just call her and try to figure out
why she ghosted, okay?
Speaker 6 (12:13):
Absolutely.
Speaker 1 (12:13):
All right, go ahead and mute out. Here we go, bud.
Speaker 3 (12:15):
Hello?
Speaker 1 (12:22):
Hi, is this Molly?
Speaker 5 (12:24):
This is she.
Speaker 1 (12:26):
Molly, it's Marcus calling from Star 101.3. How are you?
Speaker 5 (12:29):
Good.
Speaker 1 (12:31):
Good morning. Do you listen to our morning show?
Speaker 5 (12:36):
No, not really.
Speaker 1 (12:37):
Okay. I wonder if you might have a second to
be on the air.
Speaker 4 (12:41):
I only ask because we do a thing on the
show called Second Date Update. And basically, you go on
a first date. If somebody ghosts, then we have the
other person call me. And then we try to figure
out basically what they did wrong. Or like why it
went sideways.
Speaker 5 (12:56):
Oh, sure. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (12:58):
I'm wondering if you could discuss your date with Evan.
Speaker 5 (13:01):
Yeah, it was, um, good.
Speaker 1 (13:04):
Okay.
Speaker 5 (13:04):
But there was, you know, it got weird.
Speaker 1 (13:07):
Okay. Tell me everything.
Speaker 5 (13:10):
Well, we were out at a restaurant and the hostess
knew his name, like, Evan, back again.
Speaker 4 (13:17):
Okay.
Speaker 5 (13:19):
And then, um, I was like, oh, maybe he's, it's
just like, he's a local.
Speaker 1 (13:23):
Like, this is a place that comes here.
Speaker 5 (13:25):
Like, I, but... But then the server knew his drink order.
Speaker 6 (13:29):
And I'm like, that's weird.
Speaker 5 (13:30):
Because if you're a local, you should go to the bar.
Speaker 3 (13:33):
Right.
Speaker 5 (13:34):
And so I tried to, like, find out from him.
I don't know. He was just like, I like consistency.
I was like, all right, whatever. But when he went
to the bathroom, then I said something to the server
about Evan being a regular. And what the server told
me is that Evan's been there six times in the
last two weeks with a different woman.
Speaker 1 (13:56):
Oh, dear God. So he's been busy.
Speaker 5 (13:59):
Yeah, so that's different. That's just sociopathic, like the same
table at the same restaurant.
Speaker 1 (14:07):
Got it.
Speaker 5 (14:07):
It was just, that was too much.
Speaker 1 (14:10):
All right, fair. So the other part of this, Molly,
is that I've got Evan listening. He's muted. I'd like
to use this as a teachable moment, if I may,
if I can bring him on the phone. Evan, are
you there?
Speaker 5 (14:21):
Hey, yeah.
Speaker 1 (14:22):
Hey, Evan, Molly, Molly, Evan.
Speaker 4 (14:25):
Hey, Molly.
Speaker 1 (14:25):
So Evan, you're busy, right?
Speaker 6 (14:27):
Yeah, I mean, I'm single. I'm actively dating.
Speaker 1 (14:29):
Sure, but, like, the same restaurant with every single.
Speaker 6 (14:33):
I mean, yeah, like, the only variable is really the women. It's, like,
market tested. Like, I want to give a good date.
I know this restaurant has good food, good service.
Speaker 5 (14:42):
It's great. Okay, wait. And the variable?
Speaker 6 (14:45):
Like, changing restaurants can affect the date. You know what
I mean? Like, if I'm putting together a date, the
woman's the only thing that's different. And I'm trying to, like.
Learn if I get along or not so I can
take care of the other variables. Like it's good food,
pleasant evening, everything, you know?
Speaker 3 (15:02):
Okay.
Speaker 5 (15:03):
Like, so this is a controlled experiment. Like you're in
science class.
Speaker 6 (15:08):
Well, it's not science class. It's life, you know, and
it is a date. You're getting to know someone and
I'm not getting to know the restaurant. I'm getting to
know you, you know, basically.
Speaker 1 (15:17):
Yeah. Evan, how many dates was it again?
Speaker 6 (15:19):
It was six.
Speaker 5 (15:21):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (15:21):
In about two weeks, you know, six. Yeah, well, two
of them were on Saturday, so, you know.
Speaker 1 (15:28):
Okay.
Speaker 5 (15:28):
Oh, okay, so only five days.
Speaker 2 (15:31):
That's better.
Speaker 6 (15:31):
I mean, one was brunch. It's a completely different time slot.
I gotta eat. Time slot?
Speaker 5 (15:37):
Jesus Christ.
Speaker 1 (15:39):
So, Evan, like, where does Molly rank on your cheat sheet?
Speaker 6 (15:43):
She was, like, number one on there, you know? Like,
she's the best one.
Speaker 5 (15:47):
Wait, number one on a how many again?
Speaker 6 (15:49):
Out of six in the week, not overall total.
Speaker 5 (15:52):
Oh, and how many more did you have lined up?
Speaker 6 (15:55):
Girl, have you only had one match on a dating app?
Speaker 5 (15:57):
Okay, but how many more do you have, like.
Speaker 6 (15:59):
Second dates with? This is how you get to know people.
You go out with multiple people. You don't just go
out with one person.
Speaker 5 (16:05):
Not with numbers on a spreadsheet. You just go based
on what you're... I.
Speaker 6 (16:10):
Mean, I don't have the brain or memory that allows
me to know I've gone out with six women. And
I mean, the apps kind of keep track of our matches.
Speaker 1 (16:19):
What if we call this a quirky thing? Would there
be a chance at a second date at all, Molly?
Speaker 5 (16:28):
No offense, but I think I need to go out
with someone that's neurotypical.
Speaker 1 (16:31):
Okay. I'm going to go look that word up.
Speaker 6 (16:34):
Yeah, me too.
Speaker 1 (16:35):
You guys hang on the line. That devolved quickly. Okay.
So second date update.
Speaker 4 (16:40):
We need your help with a studio tech upgrade.
Speaker 1 (16:43):
So I hope you have the iHeartRadio I've.
Speaker 4 (16:46):
Downloaded and you can access the talkback because this is
going to be a poll. Here's what's happening is I'm
always lamenting the fact that we don't have any windows
in here.
Speaker 3 (16:54):
No, but we have like five giant TVs surrounding us.
Speaker 4 (16:58):
Five, one, two, three, four, five ginormous TV screens, no windows,
which bums me out because back in the day, They
built radio studios with windows so you could look over
the city that you're broadcasting in.
Speaker 2 (17:12):
Yeah, I didn't know that.
Speaker 4 (17:13):
It was such a joy to look out over San
Francisco while talking to the Bay Area.
Speaker 6 (17:19):
Right.
Speaker 4 (17:20):
So what I've suggested to our engineering department, and here's
where we need your help, is can we get a
camera feed? Because we have cameras on the roof and
different other places. that feed into our traffic department so
they can keep an eye on things. But we need
your help choosing which camera feed we're going to put
in the studio and pretend it's a window. I know
(17:42):
this is ridiculous, but I also know that if you
listen to the show, you've got an.
Speaker 1 (17:46):
Opinion and you'd like to help out, and we appreciate that.
So here are our choices. Please choose one.
Speaker 4 (17:53):
There is a view of the Bay Bridge from the
340 Townsend radio station rooftop. There is a view of
880 overlooking the Oakland Arena.
Speaker 1 (18:06):
And then randomly, there's a view of 680 and Walnut Creek.
Speaker 3 (18:11):
The Nut?
Speaker 1 (18:12):
The Nut. So we could keep an eye on the Nut.
Speaker 2 (18:16):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (18:16):
We could keep an.
Speaker 4 (18:18):
Eye on 880 at the Arena, or we could keep
an eye on the Bay Bridge Arena.
Speaker 1 (18:23):
But here's the problem with the Bay Bridge vantage point.
It's not great.
Speaker 3 (18:26):
Yeah, honestly, I saw it and it's not like the
vibes of Bay Bridge beauty that you're imagining. You know,
we should take a picture of each of these and
put it on the stories and then we put.
Speaker 2 (18:36):
Like a poll.
Speaker 1 (18:37):
Yeah. There's a building blocking the Bay Bridge. Like, it's terrible.
Speaker 2 (18:40):
Yeah, it's actually not a great view.
Speaker 4 (18:42):
You can't even keep an eye on traffic with this view.
Speaker 2 (18:44):
I'm low key either with the nut or.
Speaker 4 (18:49):
The reason I would choose The Nut is because I
know we have a lot of our listening family that
lives out there.
Speaker 2 (18:53):
Can you see the sunrise from any of them?
Speaker 1 (18:57):
Probably the Walnut Creek Vantage. The Nut.
Speaker 2 (19:02):
I know, it's just fun to say.
Speaker 1 (19:04):
So, real quick check-in on the poll.
Speaker 4 (19:08):
Hit the talkback button on the iHeartRadio app if you
are streaming Star 101.3 right now.
Speaker 1 (19:13):
Should the view be the Bay Bridge, the Oakland Arena.
Speaker 4 (19:17):
880 or Walnut Creek, a.k.a.
Speaker 1 (19:21):
The WC, a.k.a. the Creek, a.k.a.
Speaker 2 (19:24):
The Nut.
Speaker 1 (19:25):
The Nut.
Speaker 2 (19:26):
Well, we'll post this on the stories here in the
next couple minutes.
Speaker 1 (19:29):
Okay.
Speaker 2 (19:29):
And then you can participate there as well.
Speaker 1 (19:31):
Let's get it. All right. That's what we're doing today
for work.
Speaker 3 (19:36):
I know.
Speaker 5 (19:36):
We go.
Speaker 4 (19:36):
It's time for good news, Bay Area. I love it
when people use their talents to help others. It's the
story of a team of... teenage engineers who are developing
a device to help visually impaired people navigate without a
cane or a dog. So this is in Indiana. They're
(19:58):
in college, and they've developed a wearable device, again, to
help people who are blind, visually impaired, navigate obstacles more independently.
So this technology, it uses sensors. And what it does
is it detects objects that are nearby, and then it
alerts the wearer with vibration, other different types of feedback.
(20:20):
It started as a pair of glasses, but they got
feedback from blind testers, and they asked them to redesign
it as a baseball cap. So now it's been redesigned
as a baseball cap. The best part about this, and
you can't say this about a lot of technology, is
it's self-contained. It works anywhere, doesn't need Wi-Fi, doesn't need
software updates whatsoever. Battery lasts about 12 hours. And so
(20:44):
they're still beta testing it, but the plan is to
eventually bring it to market.
Speaker 1 (20:50):
And I just think that would be so helpful. So
there you go. That's my good news.
Speaker 4 (20:54):
Time to play the Bay's favorite trivia games called What
You Know About That. Brought to you by Cameras Pub
in Half Moon Bay.
Speaker 1 (20:59):
What's my move? The wangs.
Speaker 2 (21:01):
The wangs.
Speaker 1 (21:02):
Such good pub food. Come out to the coast side.
Let's hang out. We'll do some karaoke this weekend. Say
good morning to our contestants. We go to San Jose
and say good morning to Krithika. Good morning. Good morning.
What do you have going on this morning?
Speaker 6 (21:14):
Dropping my twins off to school.
Speaker 3 (21:17):
Excellent.
Speaker 1 (21:17):
What are their names? Say hi.
Speaker 6 (21:18):
Yes, and Vihon is shaking his head no.
Speaker 5 (21:22):
Right.
Speaker 1 (21:22):
He wants nothing to do with any of this. All right.
Welcome to the show, you guys. Thank you for tuning
in every single morning. Let's go to the mission district
in San Francisco and say hi to Layla. Good morning, Layla.
Speaker 3 (21:32):
Good morning, Marcus and Taylor.
Speaker 1 (21:33):
Now, I need to know, like, what part of mission
are we talking about? Are you more like a 24th
in mission lady or a 16th in mission lady?
Speaker 6 (21:39):
24th in mission.
Speaker 1 (21:40):
Okay. How many times a week do you go to
La Taqueria? Or is El Farolito the move?
Speaker 5 (21:45):
I think El Farolito's better. See?
Speaker 1 (21:48):
The locals know.
Speaker 4 (21:50):
Okay, let's move on. I could do burrito talk all morning.
Game is super simple. It's five trivia questions, 50 seconds
to answer them all. Each person is going to be
asked separately with their opponent on hold. Yell out pass
if you don't know an answer. We'll come back to
it if there's time and just get as many right
as you can.
Speaker 1 (22:05):
Here we go. So Layla goes on hold in the mission.
And we start with Krithika in San Jose. Ready. Question
number one. What shape is a stop sign?
Speaker 5 (22:17):
Octagon.
Speaker 1 (22:18):
What color?
Speaker 3 (22:18):
Wait.
Speaker 1 (22:19):
Go ahead.
Speaker 6 (22:20):
Oh, can I change that? Sure. Octagon?
Speaker 5 (22:24):
Yes.
Speaker 3 (22:25):
Oh, God. Go ahead.
Speaker 1 (22:28):
Okay, what's your answer?
Speaker 5 (22:29):
I'm going to go with octagon.
Speaker 3 (22:30):
No, wait.
Speaker 1 (22:31):
No, no, no. Octagon.
Speaker 5 (22:32):
Damn it.
Speaker 6 (22:33):
Okay, octagon.
Speaker 1 (22:34):
Keep going. All right, we're going octagon. What color is
a traditional softball?
Speaker 6 (22:42):
Like ivory-ish.
Speaker 4 (22:45):
How many legs does an insect have? Taste the rainbow
is a slogan for what brand?
Speaker 6 (22:55):
Get off.
Speaker 1 (22:55):
And what is it called when you spin on one
foot and actually we're out of time? Krithika, hang on
the line for me.
Speaker 4 (23:00):
All right.
Speaker 1 (23:01):
Krithika goes on hold in San Jose and we pick
up Layla in the mission. Layla, you good to go? Yes.
Here we go.
Speaker 2 (23:08):
Question number one. What shape is a stop sign? Hexagon.
What color is a traditional softball? Yellow. How many legs
does an insect have?
Speaker 3 (23:24):
Eight.
Speaker 2 (23:25):
Taste the rainbow is the slogan for what brand?
Speaker 3 (23:27):
Skittle.
Speaker 2 (23:29):
And what is it called when you spin on one
foot in ballet?
Speaker 3 (23:36):
Pirouette.
Speaker 1 (23:37):
Okay, nice job.
Speaker 4 (23:38):
All right, Krithika comes back in San Jose. We'll see
how she did against Layla in the Mission District here
in San Francisco.
Speaker 1 (23:44):
Question number one, what shape is a stop sign?
Speaker 3 (23:46):
Krithika said octagon. Layla said hexagon. The correct answer is octagon.
Speaker 6 (23:51):
She got it.
Speaker 1 (23:52):
Krithika's on the board. Next question. What color is a
traditional softball?
Speaker 3 (23:55):
Krithika said ivory. Layla said yellow. The correct answer is yellow.
Speaker 1 (24:00):
All right. Ties it up. How many legs does an
insect have?
Speaker 3 (24:04):
Krithika said six. Layla said eight. The correct answer was six.
Speaker 6 (24:08):
All right.
Speaker 1 (24:08):
Krithika pulls ahead. Next question. Taste the rainbow is the
slogan for what brand?
Speaker 2 (24:12):
Both of you knew that that was Skittles.
Speaker 1 (24:15):
And finally, what is it called when you spin on
one foot in ballet?
Speaker 3 (24:18):
Layla said pirouette, and that was correct, bringing our final
score 3-3.
Speaker 2 (24:22):
We have a tie. Oh, boy. We're going to the tiebreaker, y'all.
Speaker 1 (24:27):
Everybody's still alive. Take a deep breath.
Speaker 5 (24:29):
No!
Speaker 3 (24:29):
No!
Speaker 4 (24:32):
Here's how the tiebreaker works. I'm going to ask you
both the same question at the same time. You're going
to shout out your name if you know the answer
to buzz in. Do not shout out the answer. First
person to buzz in with their name gets a chance
to answer. If you answer correctly, you win instantly. Otherwise,
your opponent can steal for the win.
Speaker 1 (24:48):
Okay.
Speaker 4 (24:48):
Shout out your name to Buzz In if you know
the answer to the following tiebreaker question.
Speaker 3 (24:52):
Which body part do you use to see?
Speaker 1 (24:54):
Layla. Layla for the win.
Speaker 5 (24:59):
Aye.
Speaker 2 (24:59):
You did it, girl.
Speaker 4 (25:00):
You're going to see Miss Lauryn Hill and Wyclef Nolte
November 4th at the Greek Theater, Berkeley. Courtesy of Another
Planet Entertainment, tickets are available now at Ticketmaster.
Speaker 1 (25:10):
Congratulations.
Speaker 5 (25:11):
Thank you.
Speaker 6 (25:12):
What are you talking about?
Speaker 3 (25:13):
Play with us again weekday mornings at 8.05 a.m.
Speaker 4 (25:16):
