Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's Marcus in the morning, 5.58. Producer Taylor is here.
It's Thursday, isn't it?

Speaker 2 (00:04):
Good morning.

Speaker 1 (00:05):
Good morning.

Speaker 2 (00:05):
It is Thursday. It doesn't feel like a Thursday for.

Speaker 1 (00:07):
Me, honestly. I'm so proud of myself right now. Why?
And I have to share this story early because it's
not appropriate.

Speaker 2 (00:13):
Okay.

Speaker 1 (00:15):
So, we started a fantasy football league here at work.
The iHeart Radio San Francisco Fantasy Football. And you have
to get your team and name your team.

Speaker 2 (00:26):
Okay.

Speaker 1 (00:26):
Well, I have another... fantasy football that's way more personal
with my guys from high school but i'm really bored
of my team name it's just the aztecs whatever why
with i don't know it's a it's a 20 year
old team i don't know okay with fantasy football you're
supposed to get creative so i got creative last night
and i came up with a team name that i
was gonna put on the the company one but it's

(00:49):
not appropriate it would give me hr'd.

Speaker 2 (00:51):
Oh okay can you say it yes but.

Speaker 1 (00:55):
Only early You know how the 49ers have a guy
on their team by the name of Nick Bosa. Have
you heard of Nick Bosa?

Speaker 2 (01:01):
I know nothing about the footballs.

Speaker 1 (01:03):
He's like all pro, all world, although injured, defensive lineman.
He's super good.

Speaker 2 (01:10):
Can we get to the good part of this story?

Speaker 1 (01:12):
So his name is Nick Bosa.

Speaker 2 (01:13):
Okay.

Speaker 1 (01:14):
So my team name is Bosa Deez Nuts. Really? Yes.

Speaker 2 (01:18):
Oh, I love that. I love that actually so much.

Speaker 1 (01:23):
And I almost did it with the office one. And
then I was like, no, somebody's going to complain.

Speaker 3 (01:27):
I know.

Speaker 2 (01:28):
Someone will get upset. But that was great, actually. I approve.

Speaker 1 (01:32):
So I put it on my personal one that I
had with my high school friends. And then I put
out a press release that the team had been sold
and relocated and rebranded. Please make a note of it.
Both of these nuts. Nice. And then I have a
logo and everything.

Speaker 2 (01:47):
Okay.

Speaker 1 (01:48):
It's two footballs coming out of a pair of pants.

Speaker 2 (01:51):
Did Chet make that for you?

Speaker 3 (01:52):
Yes. I knew it.

Speaker 1 (01:55):
All right. But is it appropriate? Is it going to
get today?

Speaker 3 (01:58):
Amaze.

Speaker 1 (01:58):
Anyway, we have a member of our listening audience that
needs our help.

Speaker 2 (02:02):
Okay.

Speaker 1 (02:02):
And this means everybody. I confirm she is listening right now.
Hazel is in San Jose, and she sent us a DM.
Good morning, Marcus. Good morning, Taylor. Love your show. Listen
every morning. I have an issue I need your help
with at work. It has to do with dating someone
at work.

Speaker 2 (02:18):
Oh, been there.

Speaker 1 (02:19):
Mm-hmm. She said, I work really closely with one of
my coworkers, and over the last couple of years, he's
become my go-to person, the person I depend on the most.
We help each other constantly. We eat lunch together. We've
now become good friends outside the office. Lately, I'm starting
to think he may be developing feelings for me, mostly
from little comments he's making and how much more attention
he's been giving me. He hasn't actually crossed the line

(02:40):
or said anything directly, so telling him I'm not interested
feels very presumptive. Could make things awkward all by itself.
At the same time, I really need to nip this
in the bud because I don't want him thinking that
this is going somewhere. I don't know if I would
keep working where we're working if he and I couldn't
be friends. How do I make it clear I only
see him as a friend without ruining the friendship I'm

(03:01):
trying to save? This is multifaceted, multilayered.

Speaker 2 (03:05):
I've been in this exact position before.

Speaker 3 (03:08):
I remember a couple years ago, I was working at
this restaurant and there was a guy that was working
there and we.

Speaker 2 (03:14):
Became very close.

Speaker 3 (03:16):
And he, he actually confided in me that he had
feelings for me. And I told him, I was like,
I don't feel the same way. And we cannot be friends.

Speaker 1 (03:27):
And you had to cut it off immediately.

Speaker 3 (03:28):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (03:28):
We could not be friends anymore.

Speaker 1 (03:30):
Cause I had this happen one time and she, I,
I tried to kiss her and she ducked and said, sorry,
a for effort. Can't do it. And I thought we
could come back from it. Cause in my mind, I'm like,
all right, she's not interested. I still want to hang out. No.

Speaker 2 (03:42):
See, because then in my situation, this guy became my stalker.
Like literally stalked me. Wasn't vibes. Okay. And I told
this guy, cause okay.

Speaker 1 (03:53):
What level of stalker?

Speaker 3 (03:54):
No, let me set the scene for you. We, I
told him we can't be friends because you know, you
like me and out of respect, I think you need
to move on and go away. And so we didn't
talk for like two years. And then he hit me up.
He's like, I have a girlfriend and I moved and
I'm over it. And life is great.

Speaker 1 (04:13):
I'm emotionally fine. Yeah. Let's reconnect.

Speaker 4 (04:15):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (04:15):
And I was totally down with that. I was like, awesome. Okay,
let's reconnect.

Speaker 3 (04:19):
No, he was still very much in love with me. He, okay,
this is crazy. He wrote three, 300 plus like page
novels about me.

Speaker 2 (04:29):
And I'm not joking.

Speaker 1 (04:30):
Did he gift them to you?

Speaker 2 (04:31):
Yes, he gifted them to me and he annotated them.

Speaker 3 (04:34):
And he told me, he's like, so this is when
we did this and this is what this story is about.

Speaker 2 (04:39):
And I got freaked out. I was like, absolutely not.

Speaker 3 (04:42):
And then he went to, you know, my boyfriend at
the time's work and threatened him, told him if he
treats me bad, he's going to mess him up and
all this and.

Speaker 2 (04:52):
That and whatever.

Speaker 1 (04:53):
This escalated quickly.

Speaker 3 (04:54):
So in my eyes, I think once someone tells you
they like you, you can't do it.

Speaker 1 (04:59):
It's over.

Speaker 3 (05:00):
Well, not just that, but then you get like a
couple crazies, the ones that will like take you out
because like take you out, you know?

Speaker 1 (05:08):
That sounds violent.

Speaker 2 (05:10):
You've never had that? No, no, I'm not even joking.
Like women go through this experience. I'm sure.

Speaker 3 (05:16):
Women once in their life have rejected a dude and
the guy's like been like.

Speaker 2 (05:19):
Well, you're ugly or, you know, that type of vibe.

Speaker 1 (05:22):
Okay.

Speaker 2 (05:23):
So that's where we're at.

Speaker 1 (05:24):
Well, what do we tell Hazel? So just to recap
real quick, she's got a guy at work to hang
out all the time. She doesn't even want to work
there anymore if they can't be friends, but she's feeling
like he's got feelings. He hasn't said a word yet.

Speaker 2 (05:34):
I think you got to ask him. You just got
to ask him straight up.

Speaker 1 (05:38):
How do you ask him?

Speaker 3 (05:39):
I would say, hey, you know, I've been thinking about
it and I'm kind of getting the vibe that you
might like me.

Speaker 2 (05:45):
Is there truth to that? And then just see what
he says. And then if it's yes, I think you
can't be friends with him anymore.

Speaker 1 (05:51):
And she's got to quit too.

Speaker 2 (05:53):
Yeah, sorry, girl.

Speaker 1 (05:54):
This took a turn. All right. If anybody has any counsel,
if you've been through this, that would be great. The
talkback is open. It's a little red microphone. If you're
streaming Star 101.3 right now, hit us up with a
little message. I love this. The types of parents spotted
on college move-in day. Which one are you? Which one
are your parents? I'm going to run through these, Producer Taylor,

(06:14):
and you're going to tell me where your folks land
on the spectrum, okay?

Speaker 3 (06:17):
Okay.

Speaker 1 (06:17):
And you could be a combo, too. It is Star 101.3.
It is Marcus in the Morning. Number one, the stressed
out moms and dads. They're already frazzled and they're sure
to scream at you if you don't understand the flow
of traffic, for example, in the dorm parking lot. They're
like on tilt.

Speaker 2 (06:32):
Okay.

Speaker 1 (06:34):
The ones who packed everything. They loaded a couple of U-Hauls.
They're determined that all the stuff will fit in the
dorm room. What about the overly emotional parents? Everybody sheds
a few tears, but these moms and dads can't seem
to stop no matter how much it embarrasses their kid.
The been there, done there types. They look like they
know what they're doing. Maybe you're in their third kid.

(06:54):
I don't know. The bougie parents. They've hired a cleaning
service to scrub the dorm room before move-in day.

Speaker 4 (07:02):
Okay.

Speaker 1 (07:03):
They get professional movers. This happens? People do this?

Speaker 2 (07:06):
I guess.

Speaker 4 (07:08):
Oh.

Speaker 2 (07:08):
I've never seen it.

Speaker 1 (07:09):
That is a level I've never encountered. The drop-and-run parents.
They've helped you get in. Now we'll see you at Thanksgiving.
The parents that just won't leave. They're the ones that
are there all weekend.

Speaker 4 (07:21):
Right.

Speaker 2 (07:21):
OK.

Speaker 1 (07:23):
The documenters posing their kid in front of every box,
every college sign, every first moment with the roommates, every
single moment they want to capture on socials. The over buyers.
They've scooped up everything they can think of on Amazon
to deal with their emotions. The confused family. They're in
line to register. They have no idea what's going on.
Nobody did any research. And then, of course, the working parents.

(07:44):
They meant to take the day off and they forgot.

Speaker 2 (07:46):
OK.

Speaker 1 (07:47):
Where do you folks fall on the spectrum?

Speaker 3 (07:49):
I think my parents, they're both kind of different. My
mom was pretty emotional and she was like the documenter.
She had to take pictures of everything, me everywhere.

Speaker 1 (07:57):
Was that embarrassing for you? No. Okay.

Speaker 2 (08:01):
No, because it's my mom. Like, she's proud of me,
you know, and I'm proud of me.

Speaker 1 (08:05):
This was UCSB?

Speaker 2 (08:07):
No, this was SBCC.

Speaker 1 (08:09):
Oh, okay. Santa Barbara Community College.

Speaker 2 (08:11):
Yes. This was like pre-COVID.

Speaker 4 (08:13):
Okay.

Speaker 2 (08:14):
But yeah, when they moved me down. How was dad?

Speaker 3 (08:19):
Dad was so chill. Like dad was like, let me
just put everything together.

Speaker 2 (08:23):
Tell me what to do. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (08:24):
You know, of course the captain. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (08:26):
He, he was the one doing all the heavy lifting
and unloading and whatnot.

Speaker 1 (08:30):
I think my wife would be the one who packed everything,
but she would also expect my daughter to pack. Cause
my daughter forgets things like in a volleyball tournament or whatever.
My wife looks at her shrugs and goes, well for
next time, I guess.

Speaker 3 (08:40):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (08:41):
Don't forget your knee pads. I think we would be,
I would be overly emotional. No shocker there. And then
I would be a little bit level of a documenter.
And then on some level, I wouldn't want to leave.
But then I'd have to leave. But then I'd probably
lose it in the car. It'd be waterworks in the car.

Speaker 2 (08:57):
Yeah, that was my parents too.

Speaker 3 (08:59):
God.

Speaker 1 (09:00):
So where do you fall on the spectrum? College move-in day.
What type of parent were you? Or maybe you want
to out your folks. I don't know. I'm sure it's cute.
Let us know. Three, here we go.

Speaker 3 (09:10):
Now here's what's trending in the Bay Area and beyond.

Speaker 1 (09:15):
Lots of music news to catch up on. Olivia Rodrigo
says if there's ever a movie about her life, she
already has somebody in mind to play her.

Speaker 2 (09:22):
Okay.

Speaker 1 (09:25):
Monica Barbaro, who stars in A Complete Unknown. Do you
know who this is?

Speaker 2 (09:28):
I have no idea who that is.

Speaker 1 (09:29):
Can we look her up?

Speaker 2 (09:30):
Monica Barbaro.

Speaker 1 (09:31):
Yes.

Speaker 3 (09:32):
Okay.

Speaker 1 (09:33):
She says they look so much alike. She says.

Speaker 2 (09:36):
Oh, yeah, they do. They actually look so much alike.

Speaker 1 (09:39):
You know who would want to play Olivia Rodrigo? Young
Olivia Rodrigo is my daughter.

Speaker 4 (09:42):
Oh, yeah.

Speaker 2 (09:43):
And she would be great.

Speaker 1 (09:44):
Right?

Speaker 2 (09:45):
Actually, they look so much alike as well.

Speaker 1 (09:46):
Yeah. BTS helped Jungkook celebrate his 29th birthday during opening
night of their tour at SoFi down in Southern California.
Thousands of fans singing happy birthday. He got a birthday crown.
And then he did something really cool. He took the
crown and the shirt off his back and gave it

(10:08):
to a fan in a wheelchair.

Speaker 2 (10:09):
Oh, that's awesome. It's very neat.

Speaker 1 (10:11):
Amy Winehouse's Back to Black is getting the deluxe treatment
for a 20th anniversary. New additions including unreleased demos, tracks,
never before seen photos. Even a limited flower-filled vinyl. Everything
drops October 23rd. Amy Winehouse is your number one karaoke
go-to at Cameron's, yes?

Speaker 2 (10:28):
Oh, absolutely.

Speaker 1 (10:29):
Are you getting this album?

Speaker 2 (10:32):
I mean, it's on sale right before my birthday.

Speaker 1 (10:36):
I see what's happening here in real time.

Speaker 2 (10:38):
You know, hint, hint, nudge, nudge.

Speaker 1 (10:41):
Do you have a record player?

Speaker 2 (10:42):
I do.

Speaker 1 (10:43):
Okay, good info. I'll be sure to pass that along.
Selena's family appears to be feuding over her estate. Her
brother says there's a legal process involving her sister that's
been underway for months. And that his sister says that
their mom, that they haven't received any legal documents and
call the insinuations false. So the family is feuding over

(11:06):
the estate. I'll keep you posted on that. We already
reported that Miley Cyrus is dropping the Cyrus. I find
it fascinating and hilarious that Billy Ray had to check
in on this.

Speaker 3 (11:15):
I know.

Speaker 1 (11:17):
Billy Ray, how do you feel about her dropping your name?
He's like, she's my daughter, dude. Like, relax.

Speaker 3 (11:22):
Right?

Speaker 2 (11:23):
Like, he knows what her last name is.

Speaker 1 (11:25):
He knows where his bread's buttered at this point. Although
he's worth bajillions. Let's see. And then this is cool.
Sunnyvale has launched its own on-demand ride share service called
Sunnyvale Beam. Riders across the city. Costs $ 3. 50. Your first
three rides are free. And it includes trips to the

(11:45):
high school, Homestead. And Kaiser in Santa Clara, Sunnyvale Beam.
If you're down there in the area and you want
to investigate, there you go. Let's finish strong with Producer
Taylor's Daily Poll. What do you have?

Speaker 3 (11:55):
It is National Cabernet Day today. So we're asking, what
is the best cab pairing? Is it cab and steak,
cab and pasta, cab and a cheese board, or cab
and chocolate?

Speaker 1 (12:06):
My head just exploded. I don't know. I got to
figure something out.

Speaker 2 (12:09):
Yeah, you got to pick one.

Speaker 1 (12:10):
Okay. We'll get into that. Well, you know what? Give
us what you think. The poll is up right now.
It's in the Star 101.3 FM Instagram. It's Marcus in
the morning. Yes, we're back with Second Date Update. Let's
just bring our guy on. Alex needs our help. Alex,
are you there?

Speaker 3 (12:23):
Hey, man.

Speaker 5 (12:24):
Yeah, I'm here.

Speaker 1 (12:25):
Let's talk about Rebecca. This was out in Livermore. Super
cute downtown, by the way. You're lucky to be out there.
But I understand she's ghosted. So let's get into it.
What was the first date like?

Speaker 5 (12:36):
I thought it went great.

Speaker 1 (12:37):
We had a good time.

Speaker 5 (12:38):
We went to dinner. I remember like.
You know, I ordered some, I don't know, I ordered
some food, and I mean, I don't know, we just
had a good time.

Speaker 1 (12:49):
Okay. Did you do anything dumb? I mean, I can't, no,
it just seemed like a normal date.

Speaker 5 (12:56):
Like, just, I don't know, we ate, we talked, we
drank a little bit.

Speaker 3 (12:59):
Okay.

Speaker 1 (13:00):
Seemed like it went great. Here's how I know you
like her. You don't sound like a guy that gets
up this early on a regular basis.

Speaker 4 (13:07):
So.

Speaker 1 (13:07):
Yeah. I know this is a struggle. Let's try to
get some answers. I'd love to get you a second date.
That's always the dream. Let's figure out why she ghosted.
We'll ask her about your date. Go ahead and mute
your phone so you can listen in. Here we go.

Speaker 3 (13:21):
Hello?

Speaker 1 (13:27):
Hi, is this Rebecca?

Speaker 4 (13:30):
Yes. Who is this?

Speaker 1 (13:33):
Rebecca, this is Marcus calling from Star 1013.

Speaker 4 (13:35):
Hi. Um, hi.

Speaker 1 (13:39):
I don't know if you've ever heard of the radio station,
but I do the morning show. Oh. Yes.

Speaker 4 (13:44):
No, I don't listen, but.

Speaker 1 (13:46):
Okay. Do you have a second to chat?

Speaker 3 (13:49):
I do.

Speaker 4 (13:50):
Is this on the radio?

Speaker 1 (13:52):
Is that okay?

Speaker 4 (13:53):
Yeah, I'm excited. I've never been on the radio. Awesome.

Speaker 1 (13:56):
Well, welcome.

Speaker 4 (13:56):
That's cool.

Speaker 1 (13:57):
It's magic every time. We do a segment on the show.
It's called Second Date Update. And basically like you go
on a first date and then somebody is feeling like
maybe they got ghosted. So I call their date and
try to figure out if something went wrong or what
the deal is. So I would love it if you
had a minute to talk about a date you've been
on recently. The guy's name is Alex and he really

(14:21):
digs you. Interesting.

Speaker 4 (14:24):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (14:25):
Have you ghosted? I don't want to accuse you of anything,
but like.

Speaker 2 (14:29):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (14:30):
You did.

Speaker 4 (14:30):
Yeah. I have not reached.

Speaker 1 (14:33):
Out.

Speaker 4 (14:33):
I have not responded.

Speaker 1 (14:34):
Got it. Okay. Did, um, did he do something wrong
or did it get weird? Are you busy or what? Um,
I'm just trying to give him some insight, you know,
like teachable stuff. I mean, how was it? How was
it for you?

Speaker 4 (14:50):
I thought the date was going well. Um, I was
having an amazing time. Um, we like had dinner, we
had great conversation. I, I had a great time. And then,
The end got weird for me. At the end of
the date, the server asked us if we wanted to
see the dessert menu, and he said no. But then

(15:11):
he said, can I see the dinner menu again? And
then he ordered another entree, which I was like, okay,
it's a little bit weird, but also weird. fine if
you're still hungry. But then he was like, oh, yeah,
this isn't for me. He ordered like a salmon and
mashed potato and vegetable dish to go. And it was
for his roommate, I guess. So that was a little

(15:33):
bit weird. But then he ordered another entree after that.
He ordered pasta to go. And I was like, OK, well,
who's that for? And he said, well, this is for
tomorrow's lunch. And so I just I started realizing that
he was like using our date to meal prep.

Speaker 1 (15:46):
It's like seriously multitasking right now.

Speaker 4 (15:49):
Multitasking. Yeah. On a first date.

Speaker 1 (15:52):
Okay. Well, real quick, Alex is actually listening right now.
And I'd love to bring him on to discuss if
that's okay.

Speaker 3 (16:02):
Alex?

Speaker 5 (16:03):
Hey, Rebecca.

Speaker 1 (16:05):
Dude, what are you doing? Hi. Hey. I feel like
we can talk about this as adults because you guys
obviously like each other on some level. I thought we did. Dude,
what's going on here? Like, what are you doing? Well, look, I.

Speaker 5 (16:20):
Mean, I'm at a nice restaurant. I just kind of figured, like,
why not take advantage of it? Like, I mean, it's
not a big deal. I didn't, you know, why not?

Speaker 4 (16:28):
Well, because, I mean, because we're on a date. But
I didn't make you wait or anything.

Speaker 5 (16:34):
Like, you know what I mean?

Speaker 1 (16:35):
Like, they brought it with the check.

Speaker 5 (16:37):
We didn't, like, get stuck there.

Speaker 4 (16:39):
I guess like for me, the part that was the
weirdest was that I guess that would have been fine.
It was just, it was weird to me that you
used a gift card to pay for everything. And it
was like the gift card from your parents. So it
was just like, to me, it was like, you're using
your parents' gift card to pay for your dinner and
your roommate's dinner and your lunch tomorrow. Yeah. Which I

(16:59):
guess is fine. It seems like a little bit juvenile
or something, but then the part that rubbed me the
wrong way was just in that, like the next day
you Venmo requested me for my half.

Speaker 5 (17:08):
I'm confused. The gift card is still money, so I
spent it. Remember, we agreed we were splitting it.

Speaker 4 (17:16):
I think if we had split the check and just
put our cards down, that would have been fine, but
it's weird to me that on a first date, you
had more generosity for your roommate than you did for
someone you're trying to impress on a first date.

Speaker 5 (17:30):
Wait, why are you being weird?

Speaker 4 (17:33):
Why am I being weird?

Speaker 5 (17:34):
I think most.

Speaker 4 (17:37):
Women would feel it exactly the way I felt about this.
Like you're like whipping out gift cards from your parents,
paying for your roommate, not paying for me. Like that
whole thing is, that is weird. I'm not being weird. Alex,
I think you're the one being weird.

Speaker 5 (17:53):
Uh, Rebecca, now your vibes are like really off. I
don't know what is going on, but you're, you're being
something else.

Speaker 1 (18:02):
Okay. You guys hang on. You guys hang on. Rebecca. Rebecca.

Speaker 2 (18:07):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (18:07):
That got strange.

Speaker 4 (18:10):
It was really weird.

Speaker 1 (18:12):
Okay. I'm going to call it. I'll go ahead and
I'll take care of it, okay? Thank you for being amazing.
If you want to check out the show.

Speaker 4 (18:20):
Thank you, too.

Speaker 1 (18:22):
It's 6 to 10 weekday mornings. 1013. You're the best.

Speaker 4 (18:25):
Okay.

Speaker 1 (18:26):
Thank you. You got it.

Speaker 4 (18:27):
Bye.

Speaker 5 (18:28):
Bye.

Speaker 1 (18:29):
All right. Second date update. I was almost taken yesterday
by a girl on TikTok, Producer Taylor.

Speaker 2 (18:35):
What?

Speaker 1 (18:36):
She almost got me. She was so convincing in what
she was delivering that I was like, oh, wow, that's fascinating.
And it turned out to be complete BS. It's star
one on three. It's Marcus in the morning. It's Thursday.
Good morning. It was in regards to an idiomatic expression.
Do you know what that is? It's like a saying
that we have in English that has an origin. And

(18:57):
it doesn't make sense when you say it until, you know,
kind of we all use them. Let me give you
that was terrible. Well, let me give you a good example.
When you say bite the bullet, do you know what
that means? to endure something painful or unpleasant just to
get it over with.

Speaker 3 (19:09):
Okay.

Speaker 1 (19:09):
There's a backstory there. Spill the beans, letting the cat
out of the bag, accidentally revealing a secret. You know
where that one came from. Dishonest merchants used to sell
suckling pigs in bags. Occasionally, they would substitute a less
valuable cat. And then the ruse was unveiled when the
bag was opened.

Speaker 4 (19:29):
Oh.

Speaker 1 (19:29):
Now, let me get to what I saw online because
This girl went online and was like, I was today
years old when I found out. Do you know why
actors say break a leg? Because if you break your leg,
that means you'll end up in the cast.

Speaker 2 (19:48):
Oh, it's a disaster. be a joke no.

Speaker 1 (19:51):
She meant it like that's real my theater people are
rolling their eyes right now i get it look i'm
also a theater kid and so i was like whoa
that's fascinating but then in the comments people were like
no that's complete bs And then Billy Baldwin of the
Baldwin brothers, Haley Bieber's dad, checked in in the comments
with what he said was the actual story. And he

(20:12):
delivered it with so much enthusiasm. I believed him. According
to Billy Baldwin, the phrase break a leg comes from
Elizabethan Shakespearean times when audience supposedly showed appreciation by stomping
their feet or banging the legs of their chairs when
they liked the performance rather than applauding. a really successful

(20:33):
performance would mean you would break the leg of a chair.

Speaker 2 (20:36):
And that's not what it is.

Speaker 1 (20:37):
And I thought, Billy Baldwin said so. He's an actor
of some regard. Third Baldwin brother. And he's got a
blue checkmark. It must be true. That's also complete BS.

Speaker 2 (20:48):
Okay, so what's the actual reason?

Speaker 1 (20:50):
Nobody actually knows. Makes this a little anticlimactic. I apologize.
The popular theory, and I'm going to stick with this one,
is actors say break a leg Because you don't want
to say good luck. You might jinx the performance so
you wish something terrible instead. Break a leg.

Speaker 5 (21:07):
Oh.

Speaker 2 (21:08):
None of that makes sense to me, honestly. I'm not
getting it.

Speaker 1 (21:11):
I love the one about being in the cast.

Speaker 2 (21:14):
I thought that was a joke. That'd be a good
dad joke.

Speaker 1 (21:16):
She meant it.

Speaker 2 (21:17):
Potential dad joke.

Speaker 1 (21:19):
Anyway, there you go. What's your favorite idiomatic expression? You
know who loved these was my father. He has a
PhD from linguistics from Stanford. And English was his second language.
So he found idioms. idiomatic expressions in English to be fascinating.
Give me your favorite. You can use the talkback in
this moment. It's the little red microphone. If you're streaming
Star 101.3 right now, leave us a quick 30-second message.

Here's another step in the direction of the analog revolution.
I'm here for it. Global Letter Writing, this project that
connects more than 15,000 strangers worldwide, and it's growing. More

(22:07):
than 15,000 people around the world are putting down their
phones and picking up their pens every week. It's a
growing effort to receive handwritten letters. Remember those? It's called
the Sunday Letter Project, and it encourages people to write
one letter every Sunday to a friend, a loved one,
a stranger, or even to themselves. So this started in

(22:29):
England last year. This was a stationary shop owner. Her
name's Rebecca. She said she repeatedly heard customers saying they
miss receiving letters. So she started this again. It's called
the Sunday Letter Project. It has since expanded into a
worldwide network of like bookstores, stationary shops, cafes. And it

(22:49):
says strangers can safely exchange letters without sharing home addresses
or other personal information. So you can mail it or
you can just do a handoff. obviously gives us a
break from screens while creating meaningful connections i'm here for
it i'm gonna give you the name one more time
the sunday letter project check it out it's marcus in
