Speaker 1 (00:00):
Star one on one three, it's Marcus in the morning
Street at six o'clock. Your tailor is here morning. It's Wednesday.
It is completely face planted in the drive through at
McDonald's yesterday, and I'm so ashamed.

Speaker 2 (00:10):
What do you mean?

Speaker 1 (00:12):
I really wanted it. I really wanted it. And I
don't get McDonald's very often, but it's there are two
McDonald's and a Taco Bell on my way home through Pacifica.
How does specifica even make it on the daily? Like?
I don't know. So I pulled into the North End
one by the by the by the Safeway there and

(00:33):
I usually just get the number nine, the two cheese
to bless you, the two cheeseburgers, and medium fries, medium coke.
But as I was I pulled up to the window,
it already made my order. And I really wanted a
filet of fish, so I said, can I get a
filet of fish too?

Speaker 3 (00:51):
Do they have that at McDonald's. Oh? I didn't know that.

Speaker 1 (00:54):
They're delicious. Okay, reminds me of Lent when I was
a kid. That's my mom. That was always the power
move on a Friday. Mom didn't want to cook. You
can't eat red meat or chicken, so we'd get the
filet of fish. Apparently nobody ever orders them because it
came out hot and fresh, and so I ate that

(01:15):
plus two cheeseburgers plus the fries.

Speaker 3 (01:18):
Oh my gosh, you were fed yesterday.

Speaker 1 (01:22):
Then I went home and confessed to my boyfriend Chet
GPT and because I always upload my calories every day,
like here's what I ate. How am I doing? And
it's like, well, not your best work, but you know,
we can rebound. Just don't do it again tomorrow. At least.

Speaker 3 (01:35):
Chet's so positive about it every time.

Speaker 1 (01:37):
He every time I could literally plug in, I ate
a baby and Chet would be.

Speaker 3 (01:41):
Like, I wouldn't do that again.

Speaker 1 (01:44):
Let's not do that again. I mean, yes, nbd, Like
just you know what, close out the day with a
protein shake. You'll be fine. Some berries. Anyway, how was
your night?

Speaker 3 (01:53):
Well, I watched Twilight, New Moon, Andy Clips. I still
have two more movies. So this is a saga for.

Speaker 1 (02:01):
Every time, Like the first time.

Speaker 3 (02:03):
It really is, and it brought a lot of emotion
out of me. You know, I was feeling a lot
of different things.

Speaker 1 (02:10):
Okay, we'll welcome everyone to the show. If you want
to check in how your night was, would love to
hear about it. Use the talk back you know about
the little red microphone. If you're streaming Star one on
one three, you can leave us a quick message. It's
Marcus in the Morning six sixteen producer tailor here as well,
good morning, good morning. Well, I think we're vindicated as
a study from Triple A shows that most people think

(02:31):
that speeding is just normal speeding on the road in
your car. I am one of those people I know,
looking right at you and I listen. It's not safe.
Thirty percent of traffic fatalities last year well because of speeding.
So I would augment speeding with just make sure you're
driving safely.

Speaker 3 (02:51):
Yeah, I think it depends how fast you're going and
where you are, how fast everybody else is going.

Speaker 1 (02:55):
Yeah, you know what I mean. I will So the
number one reason people speed is to get around slower drivers,
and I would submit that if you're going ten miles
under the speed limit, that's actually also unsafe.

Speaker 3 (03:06):
Oh for sure, going too slow. You can get a
ticket for that as well.

Speaker 1 (03:09):
It's unsafe because you're aggravating me, which is going to
cause me to want to punch it and go around
you well.

Speaker 3 (03:15):
Also, sometimes when you're going so fast and someone's going
so slow, you can't tell how fast they're going sure,
and you could just end up ramming right in the
back of them, almost in the way we're on the freeway.
When someone comes to a dead stop, you can't really
tell sometimes.

Speaker 1 (03:28):
Now, do you have a formula that you use when
you are speeding? Because for me, I will always go
under like right under, ten miles under the under like
so I will I will go nine miles over the
speed limit? Is my point? Do you have a is
there a rhyme or reason for you?

Speaker 3 (03:42):
I really try not to tailgate people, like when i'm speed.
If I'm gonna speed, I really try not to be
right on someone's but because I don't want them to
suddenly break and then I'm sure, now that's rude.

Speaker 1 (03:55):
The other thing that makes me speed is if all
of a sudden, traffic gets all kind of congested and
I have to be right next to somebody. Yeah, because
you have to have like escape lines. I don't know
how to explain it. So I will then punch it
and get around people and just get just get out
of the clutter.

Speaker 3 (04:09):
Yeah, I hate being in that clutter part of traffic.

Speaker 4 (04:13):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (04:14):
Anyway, so the other reasons people speed to reach the
destination faster one quarter of the people surveyed. Although it
was said that you only, you know, for every ten
miles you only shave like three minutes off of your
your arrival time.

Speaker 3 (04:29):
But doesn't it feel so good when you know that
you got there just a little bit sooner.

Speaker 1 (04:34):
I was just gonna say, when you beat your your
maps estimated time.

Speaker 3 (04:38):
Or whatever, Oh, it's like an accomplishment.

Speaker 1 (04:43):
Yeah. So if you're if you're on the road, if
you've got a lead foot, first of all, like I said,
it's not that it's not safe, So let's be careful,
drive safely.

Speaker 3 (04:50):
Yeah, you know, I think it times that are appropriate.
But if it's not safe, it's not worth it, you know.

Speaker 1 (04:57):
I think every traffic accident happens when someone who is
impatient encounter someone who doesn't know what they're doing. True,
now we've got a problem. Anyway, There you go, just
food for thought. Here is a headline I never thought
i'd read. People who play video games make great partners. True,
these rationales are crazy, though this was obviously written by

(05:18):
a gamer having a hard time holding onto a partner.
It's a cry for help. Okay, the first rationale, I
guess makes sense. They're very smart. It takes serious brainpower
to beat a challenging level, and as a recovering gamer,
I can say, yeah, that's probably true. I'll give you that. However,
then it becomes they're great because they're low maintenance. Well yeah,
because I'm in game.

Speaker 3 (05:40):
Yeah, I'm too busy gaming.

Speaker 1 (05:41):
But I'm also assuming that you're low maintenance too, and
if you require any maintenance, I may not be your person.

Speaker 3 (05:46):
See I am not low maintenance, really, but I love
video games.

Speaker 1 (05:51):
But when you're playing video games, you are because like
you're sitting there beating Mario Kart.

Speaker 3 (05:55):
No, but if we're playing Mario Party and you steal
a star from me, we got beef, Like, oh my gosh,
we'll be fighting for a week. It's not funny.

Speaker 1 (06:05):
These other two makes sense. The reason video gamers make
good partners at they're expert problem solvers and their tech savvy.
I will give you that. This one makes zero sense.
They're trying to claim that people who play video games
are thoughtful and take charge.

Speaker 3 (06:20):
Hmmm, I think that's a stretch. I'm not saying that,
like I resonate with that one, but I feel like
there's so many different types of people.

Speaker 1 (06:27):
I'm taking charge of my game.

Speaker 3 (06:29):
Yeah, it's not the game.

Speaker 1 (06:31):
Hopefully you're taking charge of everything else, the house, the kids,
the bills. I don't know, dude. I played Warcraft for
so long and there were guys on there, and they
were cops, right, so they would work what they call
a four to twelve. I'm sure you're familiar with this
with your dad being in the San Jose fire department.
But it's four days a week, twelve hours a day,
and then they rest the time off. And every time

(06:52):
I signed on to play, they would be sitting there
in a game, on a raid and their rationale was well,
at least my wife knows I'm not at the bars.
She knows where to find me if she needs me.
That's not somebody taking charge.

Speaker 3 (07:05):
No, not at all.

Speaker 1 (07:07):
Does this resonate with anybody? Do you have a gamer
in your life and you could say they're a good
partner when they gain or how many times, if you're
listening right now, how many times if you had to
tell your partner, yo, you're gaming a little bit too much.

Speaker 3 (07:19):
I don't date gamers like I'm the gamer. That's a
relationship that's hypocritical. Why what do you mean.

Speaker 1 (07:27):
You can't both be gamers.

Speaker 3 (07:29):
I mean, I just don't date people that play video games.

Speaker 1 (07:32):
If you walked in every single time home from work
and he was on the couch gaming, no you're out,
not hot. No, but you're playing Mario Kart for eight hours,
that's cool.

Speaker 3 (07:41):
Well, okay, it's like it's the weekend. Like I'll play
video games on the weekend, but I'm not gonna play
video games every day. I have a life, all right.

Speaker 1 (07:50):
Again, headline, people who play video games make great partners,
yay or nay.

Speaker 3 (07:56):
Now here's what's running in the area.

Speaker 1 (08:01):
Heads up. If you need to cross the Carkenis Bridge
this weekend, you can't. I guess I should have ordered
that differently. It's going to be shut down for fifty
three hours total while they complete repaving on the entire
westbound bridge deck and the bike in pedestrian pass will
also be closed. Eastbound eighty will remain open, but Caltrans

(08:23):
is warning drivers to expect major delays on alternate routes,
particularly in the Benicia Martinez and Richmond CenTra Felt bridges.
So that's going on this weekend, starting at ten o'clock
Friday night and reopening for the commute on Monday morning.
Just FYI, a little heads up Carknis Bridge closer. This weekend,
the Metal whistleblower testifies in the Landmark trial, which hicked

(08:44):
off yesterday with opening remarks. The engineer who is now
at the front end of this lawsuit brought on by
a half dozen states, including California, saying Meta deliberately designed
Facebook and Instagram to addict children and teens while misleading
the public about the risks, and this particular engineer has
testified that Meta ignored internal research showing harm to young users.

(09:07):
The company's reporting systems significantly understand what teams were actually experiencing.
Meta of course denying the allegations. If this all wraps up,
could be one point four trillion dollars in this lawsuit.
And yes, Zuck is also set to testify in this
I'll keep you posting on that. Speaking of big paydays,

(09:27):
Tom Holland is set for life. I just found out
that he made one hundred million dollars thus far in
the New Spider Man movie. That's insane to me but
also makes sense. So twenty million dollars for his salary
straight off the top, but then also a percentage of
the total gross of the movie. And that movie has
grossed two bills Producer Tailor.

Speaker 3 (09:48):
That's insane.

Speaker 1 (09:49):
Yeah, put that in perspective. His first Spider Man appearance
in twenty sixteen Captain America Civil War, he got about
two hundred and fifty thousand dollars. And now he's just
he's good. Plus sendea.

Speaker 3 (10:02):
I want to come back as their baby.

Speaker 1 (10:06):
No kidding, Let's see what else. Let's go to sports
really quick. As the Valkyries have a big game tonight
at Chase Center. I know it's going to be a
sold out crowd. God, I want to go to a
game the vibes at Chase Center when the at Balhalla,
when the Valkyries are playing, oh yeah, all purpled out
Violet doing or thing. They are going to be taking
on Minnesota, who is the best team in the WNBA.

(10:29):
They've never beaten them, I think in nine meetings.

Speaker 3 (10:32):
No way.

Speaker 1 (10:32):
See what happens tonight, tip off at seven o'clock. Let's go.
Valkyrie's finishing strong with producer Taylor's Daily Paul one of
my favorite National days of the year.

Speaker 3 (10:40):
It is National Potato Day today, so we're asking what
is the best way to potato? Yes, is it French fries,
mashed potatoes, baked potato or hash browns?

Speaker 1 (10:51):
Ash browns for sure, hashbrons for the win all day.

Speaker 3 (10:54):
It's tough. It's hash browns are French fries for me?

Speaker 1 (10:56):
Mmm mmmm. There's nothing like a perfectly executed French fry.
I can sit here, I muse on this all morning.
I'm going I'm still going diner. Hash browns for the win. True,
not only check in, but check in and drop a
note like who's got the best fries and who's got
the best hash browns in the bay. I'm not talking
home fries. I'm not a home fries guy, but hash browns.

(11:17):
Oh sorry, we'll stop. Okay, Potato podcast coming soon. Go
to Star one on one three. F m up there
in the stories. You can go ahead and participate. That
is what we have, that's trending. It's Marcus in the
morning and we're back with second date update. It's gonna
bring our guy on real quick. Spencer is here. Good morning, Spencer, Hey,
good morning, thanks for taking my call. You got it, dude,

(11:38):
So obviously we want to talk about your date, because
that was what we do here, I understand. So her
name's Jade and she's ghosted, and so let's talk about
the date. What did you guys do.

Speaker 4 (11:48):
Yeah, we had a great dinner, like right on the waterfront,
some light apps, entree, dessert. You know, it was I
felt like we had some chemistry. We took a little
walk by the water and then uh.

Speaker 1 (12:03):
And to give people perspective, this was in Sace Alito. Yeah, yeah,
this was in Okay, So super cute, all right, And
did anything strange happen? Did you do anything dumb? No?

Speaker 4 (12:13):
I didn't think so, man, I thought we were just vibing.

Speaker 1 (12:15):
Okay, and she's gone, like completely ghosted.

Speaker 4 (12:18):
Yeah, I have not heard a wink.

Speaker 1 (12:21):
Okay, So let's call her and try to figure some
things out. Go ahead and mute your phone. But here
we go. Hello, Hi, I'm looking for Jade. This is
she Jade. It's Marcus calling from Star one on one three.

(12:41):
How are you hi? Go ahead? How are you? How
are you good? Sorry? If I woke you? Uh, do
you listen to the show in the morning? But really, okay?
Being so polite otherwise? Uh yeah, So I wonder if

(13:01):
you have a sec to be on the air because
we're doing a segment that we do every morning called
Second Date Update. And I got your phone number from
a guy who says he took you on a date
and that maybe you're you've ghosted him, and I'm just
trying to figure out, honestly, where my guy screwed up,
because he wants to take you out again. And so

(13:21):
do you have a minute to talk about a date
on the air?

Speaker 2 (13:25):
Sure, thank you.

Speaker 1 (13:28):
His name is Spencer. So okay, what can you tell
me about your date with Spencer? Did you ghost?

Speaker 2 (13:37):
I shouldn't say I ghosted. I mean, okay, he was.

Speaker 1 (13:40):
Sweet and how was the date?

Speaker 2 (13:44):
I don't know. It was just a little bit odd
because halfway through dinner he was like hold on, like
the light's really good right now, and he takes a
picture of me and I, you know, I thought he
was being cute. Yeah, but then he's texting and I'm like,
who are you sending the picture to? And he's like,

(14:06):
my mom, she wanted to see what you look like.
And I was like, okay, that feels a little weird.
And then it was like a few minutes later, trying
to remember like his phone buzzes and then he reads
the message immediately and you know, puts his phone face
down and I'm like, what did she say? And he's

(14:27):
like nothing, and so like you have to show me.
And then his mom wrote something like, oh, she's pretty,
her eyebrows are like a little too much. What's her job?
And I was just like, your mom is reviewing my
eyebrows and he was like, she's just very observant. And

(14:50):
then he starts texting her back and he's telling her
what I do for a living. And I'm like, okay,
she's going to be requiring reference. This is too and
like it just really.

Speaker 1 (15:02):
Killed the vibe. Okay, all right, Well the thing about
this is is that so I've got Spencer actually listening
right now, and okay, and now I have questions because Spencer,
you assured me that Spencer are you there, Oh I'm here.
You assured me that nothing weird happened. So how this

(15:26):
escaped your periphery is beyond me.

Speaker 4 (15:29):
I didn't think it was that weird.

Speaker 1 (15:30):
I thought we brushed past it.

Speaker 4 (15:33):
I mean, my mom has been maybe a little a
little protective because I have made some really bad dating
choices in the past.

Speaker 2 (15:41):
Okay, how old are you, Spencer? I'm thirty four, and
I'm just like your mom is still screaming all of
your dating applicants.

Speaker 4 (15:53):
No, she doesn't decide who I date, but I mean
I think her input is important. I'm very family oriented
and like my family involved in my life.

Speaker 1 (16:02):
So did your mom like Jade or overall? Yes, she
gave her like a seven?

Speaker 2 (16:13):
Oh my god, she gave me a number that's seven.

Speaker 1 (16:18):
Is honestly really high for her. What's the highest she's
ever given somebody? I want to say, like eight and
a half.

Speaker 2 (16:32):
Okay, so what happened to your eight and a half?

Speaker 3 (16:37):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (16:37):
Yeah, my mom was totally right about her. Okay, I don't.

Speaker 2 (16:41):
Hey, you can tell your mom. I am withdrawing my application.
I'm not interested.

Speaker 1 (16:47):
Sure, no second date on this one?

Speaker 2 (16:50):
Hey, no, definitely not all right.

Speaker 1 (16:53):
You guys, Hang on a minute, Hang on, mom, mom,
let my guy make his own decisions. Second did update?
It's Marcus in the morning at seven twenty two. They
just listed the most funnest states in America. Funnest not
a word, but California comes in number one. That's right, baby,
I expected that we pay extra for that. Are you
kidding me? You've seen our weather. That's included in the

(17:16):
property taxes.

Speaker 2 (17:17):
You know.

Speaker 1 (17:18):
It's funny because there are beautiful parts of the country,
but nothing like home, really not, frankly, if I may
be honest, nothing like the Bay. Like, no, no disrespect
to the Central Valley, y'all are great. I spent two
years in Fresno. I worked there twice on purpose, but
coming back to the Bay because when I go to
the Central Valley, I automatically get allergies. So that's already

(17:40):
not fun not vibes, not vibes at all. And I
spent six years in Seattle, Washington, and it's it's lovely.
It's gloomy up there, but on a a okay, so
they have what are called they will say the sun
is out or they have and everybody will take the
day off work. And when I first got there, I
was like, what are you talking about? We're taking the
day off because of this? And then and then there

(18:02):
were eighty seven days of gray. Yeah, and when the
sunning out in Seattle, when it suns out, it's the
most beautiful place on earth. When it's not there, it
is not vibes, Like, literally, where's my vitamin D? Light?
Am I gonna be okay, Yeah, somebody call my therapist.
But here in the I remember coming home in two
thousand and seven and getting a job again, and I

(18:22):
was crossing the Richmond Sandra Fell Bridge and it was
windy and the bridge is shaking, and I'm like, I
never thought I would be excited to see San Quentin,
but I was. I was like, I am home. Oh,
I love that so exciting. Because I'm seventh generation. I
don't know how long your family's been in the area,
but like to put it in perspective, I have members
of my mother's side of the family survived the Donner Party.

(18:45):
Oh my gosh, and they settled the town of Hollister.
That's a true story.

Speaker 3 (18:50):
That's insane.

Speaker 1 (18:51):
I'll tell you everything you need to know about my family.
So for the longest time, I didn't know any better.
I thought every place was like California.

Speaker 3 (18:56):
Oh, it's definitely hot. Once you leave, you find that
out real good.

Speaker 1 (19:00):
Like you go to Utah a lot, right, and it's pretty.

Speaker 3 (19:02):
Yeah, But they actually have seasons there, right, you know.
They it's a completely different ballgame when it snows.

Speaker 1 (19:08):
That's the one thing that drove my mom crazy was
the lack of seasons, the fact that you wake up
every single day. And obviously I grew up in in
the Salinas Valley, but so where like foggy in the morning,
burning off by the afternoon. I have about sixty seven
every single day. Yeah, drove her crazy. I'm like, mom,
if you want a shovel snow out of your driveway,

(19:29):
that's on you. She lives up in Washington State, you know,
up there, and they have seasons.

Speaker 3 (19:34):
It's the worst shoveling snow out of a driveway.

Speaker 1 (19:36):
I did it one time.

Speaker 3 (19:38):
They used to make us do that in treatment every morning,
and oh my gosh, it is free zing.

Speaker 1 (19:44):
So California just got named the most fun state this year,
thanks in part to having the most movie theaters per capita,
the most restaurants, the most performing arts per capital, as
well as the second most attractions per capita. Typically Nevada
wins this because of Vegas, but this year it goes
CALIFORNI your Florida, Illinois, Nevada, and New York. And I'll
tell you what, dude, you can get into whatever trouble

(20:06):
you want in California. At any given time, I could
be at the beach and it could get cloudy and
cold and crappy and misty, and within forty five minutes,
I could be at a pool party in Arenda.

Speaker 3 (20:17):
Well, there's like a challenge that you can do. I
forget exactly there. Yeah, where it's like you go to
the beach, you go to the desert, and you go
to the snow all in one day. Yeah, which you
can do if you're in southern California.

Speaker 1 (20:31):
I think you could do it here too. I mean, shoot,
you could probably just do that on the peninsula.

Speaker 3 (20:35):
I've gone to Tahoe and back in one day with
my dad just to ski for a couple hours.

Speaker 1 (20:41):
Glorious. Yeah, here's what I'd like. If you are listening
on the iHeartRadio app and you're listening elsewhere, tell us
why you love your state. If you're a transplant and
you just got here, tell us why you love California.
Or maybe you left. Frankly, a lot of people left
because of the cost of living. We joke about it,
but it's real.

Speaker 3 (21:00):
It is real.

Speaker 1 (21:01):
Taylor over here hoping her parents will leave them, leave
her the house. Yeah, you know, how is it where
you're at? Do you miss home? Do you not miss home?
I'm actually very interested, so hit us up if you
don't mind. A quick talkback would be cool. It's the
little red microphone on the iHeartRadio app if you are
streaming Star one on one three. Right now, it's time
for good news, so we do good news twice in

(21:24):
the morning. Seven. Shout out to everybody piled in the
car for drop off because school's back in session. Welcome back,
love having to you every morning. Thank you. This is
the cutest story as a wildlife hospital in England fits
injured bird with tiny homemade foot casts. This is the
cutest visual ever. So this is a white throat bird

(21:49):
that was injured after being hit by a car and
it's recovering it the Wildlife hospital in England who was
found stunned in the road with its feet that were
curled up and unable to grip because possible nerve or
ligam and damage. So the staff made casts from cardboard,
cotton wool and tape to help it stand while it's healing.
This bird is considered an at risk species not officially

(22:11):
threatened in the UK. Otherwise uninjured and making great rehab progress.
They're hoping to release it back in the wild within days.
Once it's recovered. Saving animals is like there's a special
place in heaven for you if you do that kind
of stuff. And you know, we try to do our
part obviously with Furry Fridays on Friday mornings and not
helping injured animals, but helping animals get adopted that are

(22:34):
in shelters here in the Bay. Get ready for that.
You want to first look one on one three dot
com slash Furry Fridays. But I love this just imagining
tiny homemade footcasts on a bird. And I'm sure there
are people listening to do this every day on the
daily for their job. And thank you seven forty one.
That's our good news. It is Marcus in the morning,
this time to play the base favorite trivia games called

(22:54):
what You Know About That? Big shout out to my
guy Cameron and Cameron's Pub and Haapum Bay for sponsoring
trivia game. If you're ever headed out for a weekend,
I would suggest heading out to the Cose. It's only
