We’re calling ourselves out in this one. A new survey reveals the top phone habits people are desperate to break in 2026. From endless scrolling in bed to constantly checking notifications that aren’t even there. We break down the most common bad habits, surprising stats about screen time, and why so many of us admit we couldn’t go a single day without our phones.

Do These Things To Become More Interesting In Social Circles:
What makes someone instantly more interesting to be around? It’s not being louder, smarter, or funnier…it’s the little things. In this episode, we run through a list of subtle social habits that quietly boost your presence, help people feel heard, and make conversations flow better. These are small changes with big impact that once you notice them, you’ll see them everywhere.

What's Trending:
From heartbreak to hype: Bob Weir passes, the 49ers score big, and we’ve got six pics that sum up the weekend. Second Date Update:
After drinks in Redwood City, Miguel walked away feeling hopeful. Hannah was bright, curious, and honest about how exhausting dating in your thirties can feel. Younger Gens Spill The Strangest Things Their Boomer Parents Do:
We love our parents. We really do. But that doesn’t mean we understand why they still balance a checkbook, use speakerphone everywhere, or think handing in a paper résumé will land you a job. Younger generations share the weird, funny, and surprisingly endearing things their boomer parents do. It’s equal parts comedy, nostalgia, and “oh no… that’s my mom.”

Speaker 1 (00:00):
Walking into work on a Monday morning, like, what bang bang,
that's my complete mood this morning. Oh yeah, well, variety
from the two thousands, the nineties, and today it's Star
one on one three, it's Marcus in the morning read
at six o'clock. Good morning, pretty sure Taylor is here?
Good morning, A We got a lot going on this morning.
I just checking my notes. We are going to be

(00:20):
doing a bunch of First of all, how was your weekend?

Speaker 2 (00:23):
It was good, pretty chill, laid back.

Speaker 1 (00:25):
What was your level of bed roding?

Speaker 2 (00:28):
I would say level seven? Level seven?

Speaker 1 (00:30):
Is that high for you? Yeah?

Speaker 2 (00:32):
More than normal.

Speaker 1 (00:33):
Tailor went to the Warriors game on Friday.

Speaker 2 (00:35):
Yes, and it wiped me all through.

Speaker 1 (00:37):
Saturday with a boy that she won't tell me about.

Speaker 2 (00:39):
Oh my gosh, this again.

Speaker 1 (00:41):
Are there any photos? I know you don't post photos
with the guys that you date, but like, are there
are there photos? Yeah?

Speaker 3 (00:46):
Of course we took photos for later use. Yeah, maybe
we'll see.

Speaker 1 (00:51):
So random, we'll see so radom. Anyway, great win for
the Dubs on Friday. I don't know if they won
yesterday or not. I'll be honest, they did not. All right,
we always put all right, you win the home stand continues.
Niner game yesterday was fire.

Speaker 2 (01:06):
I heard it was epic. It's all over Instagram.

Speaker 1 (01:09):
I had to go pick up my child from a
girl Scout meeting at two thirty right in the middle
of the game. Oh no, all right, be a dad,
I'll be back anyway. Epic game. Lots going on this morning,
depends on what you're into. You want to win some money.
The base ten K Day giveaway is back. That's thousand
dollars at a time, starting it approximately eight ten, so

(01:32):
right after eight o'clock, right after nine o'clock, right after
ten o'clock. I know the listening on the app makes
it a little wonky, but just keep the radio on
seven point thirty this morning. If you want to go
see Jeff Foxworthy a Cash Creek casino, that's more your vibe.
We got that plu's going to hook you up with
a hotel room. And then eight thirty five, you remember
what happens Bruno Mars, the show Bruno Mars coming to
town on October ten. This big pop quiz going on

(01:55):
this morning right after eight thirty. Your chance to win tickets.
Stay with us. It's Marcus in the morning. It's Monday.
Last Friday was National Quitter's Day, that day that you
typically dump your New year's resolution. Producer Taylor is here.

Speaker 2 (02:08):
Good morning.

Speaker 1 (02:09):
The reason I bring that up is because I read
this article about the top ten phone habits people that
hope to kick in twenty twenty six. That would have
been my resolution, stop checking your damn phone so much?

Speaker 3 (02:17):
Right.

Speaker 1 (02:18):
First of all, fact that's on the list, checking your
phone even when you don't get a notification, just hoping
maybe one will show up.

Speaker 4 (02:24):
Right.

Speaker 1 (02:24):
That's a a scrolling on the toilet something we were
talking about earlier. That makes the list as well.

Speaker 2 (02:29):
I'm a professional.

Speaker 1 (02:30):
That's not necessarily something I want to stop doing. It's
too much fun now, scrolling on your phone on the
toilet for forty five minutes. Yeah, I should probably cut
down on that. Taking their phone to bed and doom scrolling.
How we doing?

Speaker 3 (02:41):
You know me, Marcus? It can turn my bedtime from
nine to eleven.

Speaker 1 (02:45):
I know. Producer Taylor is here and you said you
had one.

Speaker 3 (02:49):
My worst phone habit is when I open Instagram and
there's nothing going on, so I close it and then
I immediately open Instagram again.

Speaker 1 (02:56):
I do the same thing all the time. I will
open it, scroll o reels, get tired of whatever that
algorithm is. Close it, reopen it, rescroll. Oh, I feel seen.

Speaker 2 (03:06):
It's so bad.

Speaker 1 (03:06):
I thought it was just me. Here's another one. I
don't even think about never cleaning your phone. Do you
ever clean your phone? Like take a wipe and oh.

Speaker 2 (03:13):
Like the act physical outside of it.

Speaker 3 (03:15):
Yeah, yeah, no, but you should because it's supposed to
be good for your face.

Speaker 1 (03:19):
I don't think I've done that ever. I hate to
tell you that, but that's the truth.

Speaker 2 (03:23):
Yeah, I don't think I do that often enough.

Speaker 1 (03:25):
Taking up sports space with duplicate or unneeded photos. How
hard is it when you do a photo shoot? How
many photos are you actually taking before you get to
one you like?

Speaker 2 (03:34):
Minimum fifty?

Speaker 1 (03:36):
Yeah, I'm so glad. I'm a boy and there's only
three that look good and only one makes the cut
right other ones? Really quick? Opening social media as soon
as you wake up, forgetting or taking a long time
to reply to messages. I'm talking to you, So, Taylor
is either immediate response, which I got yesterday while you
were shopping in Trader Joe's, or six hours later. And

(03:58):
the funny thing is she well, she will read it
because she'll drop the red receipt on you. But then
you're not going to get an answer until the following day.

Speaker 2 (04:06):
I have a lot to think about before I respond.

Speaker 1 (04:09):
Top ten phone habits you want to kick in twenty
twenty six. If you have one to add, you can
use the talk back on the iHeartRadio app that little
red microphone. Here's a little something to get you through
your week. These are things that quietly make you more
interesting and attractive in social circles.

Speaker 2 (04:23):
Oh can't wait for this.

Speaker 1 (04:25):
Most of these are good or a couple on here
where I'm like what. So let's start with the good ones.
Number one give compliments about what a person has chosen,
not what they were born with. Example, Taylor, you wouldn't
want to say, Marcus, you're devastating and good looking.

Speaker 2 (04:39):
You wouldn't want me to say that.

Speaker 1 (04:40):
No, Okay, well no I would. But instead you would
say I really like your jacket.

Speaker 2 (04:46):
Okay.

Speaker 3 (04:47):
So if I tell you I like your jacket, yes,
you're gonna think, oh, she thinks I'm devastatingly good.

Speaker 1 (04:51):
Look at that. That would be the conclusion that I
would draw. Okay, here's another one that works again. This
makes you more attractive in social circles. Pause before answering questions.
I like that a lot because it makes you seem pensive. Hmmm,
I see what you're doing. Okay, here's one that's weird.
Hold eye contact for one beat longer than actually feels comfortable. Now,

(05:13):
we demoed this off the air, and I think I
weird to tailor out because we were having a conversation
that I held eye contact for one second longer than
was comfortable and you looked away.

Speaker 3 (05:22):
This is one of those things that sounds better on paper,
but then when you actually do it, it's frightening, lucky, creepy.

Speaker 1 (05:28):
Back to the less weird ones. Position your body at
a slight angle, not head on. I like this a
lot because it's less threatening. I guess when you're sitting
head on with somebody, it could be like a tac
mode in a weird way. Okay, I guess this one's weird.
In order to make yourself more attractive in social circles
and interesting, lower your voice at the end of sentences.

(05:49):
I don't like that, Like every time.

Speaker 2 (05:51):
I don't think I can I have and capable of
that one.

Speaker 1 (05:55):
I'm way too inquisitive. I'm too loud, not a little
more slowly than usual? Should I do that while I'm
holding eye contact a beat longer than it's comfortable?

Speaker 3 (06:05):
Right?

Speaker 2 (06:05):
Are we doing all these at the same time? One
man band over her?

Speaker 1 (06:11):
Oh my god, I'm dying. The problem is you start
doing all of these once, you're gonna look like it's
gonna look very performative. Right, let's see this one. I'm
terrible at let others finish their sentences completely before you
start going. I cut people off like a mofo.

Speaker 2 (06:28):
Me too.

Speaker 1 (06:28):
Oh god, the look on the wife's face when I
cut her off, especially if we're in group. Oh you
know what the look is? The look is there? He
goes again, Right, you cut me off again? Anyway, Ways
for yourself to be more interesting and attractive in social
circles mostly helpful. Star one on one three Ariana Grande,
who has confused the crap out of all of us.
She's the lead story and let's get her now, here's

(06:49):
what's running in the Bay Area and on. So she
spoke with Variety talking about she's got a special passion
project coming up. Everybody wants it to be new music,
but she literally said, do you think I have time?
To write a new album. We want her to, I
know we do. I'm thinking it's probably.

Speaker 2 (07:09):
Movie something like that, or maybe a music video.

Speaker 1 (07:12):
Something's popping. I don't know. We've got producer Taylor in studio.
She's got the tea and the juice. So we'll keep
you posting on this. You can follow he Taylor at
Taylove with two E's on Instagram. What else do we have?
We have some sad news to lead with as well
as a Bay Area legend has passed away. We got

(07:34):
to give it up for Bob Weird. Now we don't
play Grateful Dead on Star one on one three. However,
it doesn't make them any less iconic band out of
the Bay Area. Obviously, Jerry Garcia the the lead singer,
but Bobby Weir was one of the founding members, the
rhythm guitarist, big time songwriter. They are a five. Have
you ever heard their music before? Taylor? Okay, I just

(07:58):
want to make sure because they feel like you're kind
of swag anyway, So rest in peace, Bob Weir. I
guess he succumbed to some lung issues, some respiratory issues
over the weekend. He was seventy eight years old. Absolute legend.
I guess I gotta go to other Sad news. One
of our favorite movie theaters is closed. What's it called

(08:20):
in their cab cinema? The Priniard Cinemas in Campbell literally
shaped Taylor's childhood and early twenties. I'm so sad, Big Recliner's.

Speaker 2 (08:31):
Order a steak to your seat. You could order some wine.

Speaker 1 (08:35):
I guess there's a really nice restaurant right next door.

Speaker 2 (08:37):
Yeah, the sedar room was attached to it.

Speaker 1 (08:39):
They had the co Lab of all co labs. Oh yeah,
you ever ordered a bottle of wine just to your seat?

Speaker 2 (08:44):
Maybe?

Speaker 1 (08:47):
So that stinks. But I guess there was a rental
dispute and so they'll be shutting down the theater there
at the Preniyard in Campbell. Coming up on the twenty fifth.
All right, on the more exciting news is your Sam
forty nine ers killed it over the weekends. Oh yeah,
we went into Philadelphia and beat the Eagles. Did not
think I was going to be saying that sentence this morning.

Speaker 2 (09:09):
I love that's for us.

Speaker 1 (09:10):
Oh so good. Next game is going to be obviously,
playoffs Seattle coming up Saturday, kickoff TBD, Go Niners. The
Warriors split their games over the weekend. The Sharks split
their games over the weekend, so it was a pretty
good weekend for Bay Area. In the sports, we go
to the Star one on one three fm Instagram. Taylor's
got the daily poll up you could participate in right now.

Speaker 3 (09:30):
Yes, it is National Clean your Desk Day, So we
want to know, be honest, what does your desk look
like right now? Is it spotless? Is it some organized chaos?
Could it be a little bit cleaner or is it
just an absolute disaster.

Speaker 1 (09:44):
I mean you're looking at it right now. I look
over here, look over the monitors on the other side
of the board. Does it look like here?

Speaker 2 (09:50):
I think for you it's organized chaos.

Speaker 1 (09:53):
And I'm that guy that could literally put my hand
down and go, oh yeah, that's right over here, right
in a big pile of nothing exactly. So please participate.
It's on the Star one three fm Instagram as well
as our picks from the weekend. A very cute picture
of Taylor's bathroom which you just reorganized.

Speaker 2 (10:08):
Yes, it's so cute and pink, please go check it out.

Speaker 1 (10:11):
And then you went to a wine bar this weekend where.

Speaker 3 (10:13):
Yes, Cavanya it's right across from Oracle Park.

Speaker 1 (10:16):
After the Warrior game on Friday night where they destroyed
the Kings, Taylor was there in the stands. My pictures
are all Niner game. I got a chance to make
my favorite cocktail, and then some DIY around the house
for the missus in the garage. All of that and
more on the Star one on one three FM Instagram.
All right, stay with us, Time for second date update.
Let's just get started, bringing Miguel on right now. What's up, Miguel,

(10:41):
I'm good man. I don't want to bust you up.
Miguel got ghosted. We might as well like who hasn't
been there, to be honest. So what we're trying to
figure out is if we can get this girl Hannah
on the phone, if we can get her to agree
to a second date. At the very least, we need
to close the chapter on this and get you some answers. Right, yeah, no, exactly,
I don't even want to put that in the universe.

(11:02):
So let's go for a second date. So tell me
about the first date. I understand you guys met online.
Roll it out. How did it go?

Speaker 4 (11:08):
It went really well? Like we chatted for a while,
she was already smart, and you know, messaging isn't always
my favorite thing. We had like a nice report and
we met for drinks. Yeah, and like you said, I mean,
you know, ghosting is pretty common now, so sure, but
this one was a weird one because it just went
so well, you know, like, not only was she nice

(11:30):
on when we were messaging back towards in person, she
was still funny. She was bright, she was really thoughtful.
She's one of those girls she's like really listens and
then asks follow up questions the way like you know
that she's listening, you know what I mean. I felt great.
We talked, you know, we talked about like life, work,
what it's like dating in your thirties and stuff. Sure,
we even touched on politics, and it wasn't even that bad.

(11:52):
Like I was like, wow, this is she's super open.
I don't know, I thought things were pretty solid. We're
both really relaxed, looked like pretty comfort and it just
felt like one of those things like all right, probably
gonna lead to another date.

Speaker 1 (12:05):
And here we are. All right, well I'll tell you what,
and here we are. Let's call her. Obviously we're gonna
have you muted. You can listen in. I'm gonna give
her a shout. I'll ask a couple of questions. We'll
see how it went okay from her perspective, it's Marcus
in the morning. We are doing second Date Update everybody,
so haw to Miguel again. What's up, Miguel?

Speaker 4 (12:21):
How you doing? Guys?

Speaker 1 (12:22):
Hey?

Speaker 5 (12:22):
Man?

Speaker 1 (12:22):
All right, So we're gonna call Hannah. We're gonna see
why she ghosted. I think we've kind of figured she's
ghosted on your first date. Let's see if we can
get you a second date. Here we go, go ahead and
mute your phone. Hello, Hi, I'm looking for Hannah. Please Hannah.

(12:44):
This is Marcus from Star one on one three. I
do the morning show. How are you wait? What is this?
It's a it's it's Star one on one three radio
out of San Francisco. I don't suppose you listened in
the morning.

Speaker 5 (12:58):
Oh not usually. This is a radio which I was
calling me right now.

Speaker 1 (13:04):
Yes, So I do the morning show and every morning
we have this situation. It's called second Date Update, and
we try to bring people together after our first date.
So we got floated your phone number by a guy
who says that he had a great time with you
on a date and he feels like you ghosted and

(13:24):
we're just trying to figure some things out. Do you
have a moment? Do you mind being on the air
and do you mind talking about your date with Miguel?

Speaker 5 (13:32):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (13:33):
My god, that's a lot, I know. Hi, good morning?

Speaker 4 (13:39):
Oh god? Yeah?

Speaker 5 (13:43):
Do you have exactly sure?

Speaker 4 (13:46):
Why?

Speaker 1 (13:46):
Okay, so my guy, I would like to take you
out again. Did you ghost?

Speaker 5 (13:54):
I hate to say yeah, because I think that's kind
of but yeah, okay.

Speaker 1 (14:00):
Can you tell us why? He's just trying to better
himself maybe or maybe we could get a second date
out of this. I don't know what are your thoughts?
What happened?

Speaker 3 (14:08):
God?

Speaker 5 (14:10):
You know, pretty much immediately everything was pretty off. I
would say from the very beginning of our art date.
He was like trying to guess what I was going
to say next, Like he was actively trying to finish
my sentence, like not in a rude way or like

(14:31):
aggressive way, but just like too confident, you know, like
and usually wrong. Like like I'd be saying something and
he'd be like, oh, you're about to say that you
hate that, And I'm like, no, I actually was going
to say that, I love that. Like let me finish,
and it was like he did that so many times
where it's like, hey, we're just trying to get to
know each other. Stop cutting me off and trying to
like finish each other's sandwiches, kid, like, let me just

(14:52):
let me talk. Yeah, it was so that was like
off putting, right, And then I.

Speaker 1 (15:00):
Mean maybe he was just nervous other stuff.

Speaker 5 (15:05):
Yeah, oh god.

Speaker 4 (15:06):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (15:06):
Well you know when we like chatted a little bit
before we met in person, and like this was not
the same energy at all, and you were I mean,
he's not wrong.

Speaker 1 (15:16):
I mean, he's not wrong. God no.

Speaker 5 (15:21):
But then like as it kept going, like he kept
calling everything cute, like like that was cute and and
like pointing like looking around and like pointing at the
glassware and being like this is cute. And then I'm like,
you know, he's asking me questions on sort of explaining
things about my life, and he'll kind of again like
interrupt me and be like you're so cute when you
explain that, and it's like it didn't it didn't feel playful.

(15:44):
It feels like that's like a line he just keeps
in his pocket.

Speaker 3 (15:47):
You know.

Speaker 1 (15:48):
Okay, so felt kind of not forced, but but performative.
Very were you out at that point?

Speaker 5 (15:57):
I was kind of out from the beginning, from the
finishing my sense, I'm like trying to read my mind
so incorrectly. But then he kept being like, so how
am I doing here? Like is this still fun? Are
you still having fun right now?

Speaker 4 (16:11):
Like we are?

Speaker 5 (16:13):
We are we vibing right now? Like are we are
we hitting it off? And it's just like bro, like
it was reading very insecure.

Speaker 1 (16:21):
Okay, I get it all right, So let me just
let me stop you only because Miguel is actually listening.
We're trying to use this as a teachable moment, so
he's been listening in and I'd love to bring him
on just to just to discuss. Miguel, are you hearing
what she's saying? Is it making sense?

Speaker 4 (16:41):
Not really, because she's saying like it's from the very beginning,
she was basically out, but it seemed like we were laughing,
and I mean, I just want to kind of address
some of the things that she said right like finishing
your sentences. She's taking it like seriously, like super seriously,
like uh, it was it was playful, like I like
to connect, you know, I want to show her I'm

(17:01):
listening as much she was showing me she was listening,
like I wasn't the only one, you know, cutting each
other off. And then when I say cute, you know
I didn't. She's saying It's like I don't know, like
I'm diminishing for She said something like that. It was
just flirting. It's like what I wanted to let her know, like, oh,
you know, I'm interested in you also because you're a
beautiful girl, like it's cute, like you're dumb or something,

(17:25):
You're like some little kids.

Speaker 1 (17:26):
It's like everything.

Speaker 4 (17:27):
It wasn't everything. It was like her like she responded, you,
when you say that, that's an interview, is how I flirt.
And I thought it was light. It's nothing like big
or anything.

Speaker 1 (17:37):
Okay, what about this like weird checking in?

Speaker 4 (17:39):
I like being upfront and communicative, and I personally like guessing.

Speaker 1 (17:44):
Sure, can of these these weren't the vibes you were
looking for.

Speaker 5 (17:47):
Though, I mean, that's a pretty big simplification of what happened,
and I I'm all for good healthy communication too. But
it felt like a performance review, not a date, and
it didn't feel relaxed or fun. I felt like everything
was very like almost like he'd rehearsed this thing in

(18:07):
his head before he got here. It was like he
was forcing on me this like prescripted gait that he'd
gone through in his head, and it was so different
than talking to him online.

Speaker 1 (18:18):
All right, well can we I mean he likes you,
Can we try this again? Maybe a second date?

Speaker 4 (18:23):
There?

Speaker 5 (18:24):
It was too needy and it was a big turn
off for me, so I'm going to say no.

Speaker 1 (18:29):
All right, hang on, very quirky second date update Star
one on one three. It's Marcus. It's Monday morning. Good morning,
here's something interesting. Oh, producer Taylor's in the studio.

Speaker 2 (18:40):
Hello, Hey, hey.

Speaker 1 (18:42):
Younger generations spilling the strange things that their boomer parents do.
I'm reading this list and I'm like trying to clown
my parents, but this is actually me. Yeah, you do
these things, and I'm gen X. But here we go.
Number one on the list, somebody wrote, my mom writes
her emails in Microsoft word and then attach it said
word document to the email.

Speaker 2 (19:02):
That's hilarious.

Speaker 1 (19:03):
That's bizarro.

Speaker 2 (19:04):
It's like taking an extra step for what.

Speaker 1 (19:06):
I don't know if that's generational or just strange. Typing
Google on Google before they google the thing. They're Googling. Now.
I don't do that, but I do have this weird
habit where if I open a browser and Google's already there,
I'm still typing Google in the you are in the field.
I can't to get to Google even though I'm already
at Google.

Speaker 2 (19:24):
Oh my gosh, that's so boomer market. I know my
parents still have a landline.

Speaker 1 (19:29):
I have a landline, do you put me down?

Speaker 3 (19:33):
Yes?

Speaker 2 (19:34):
They also still write checks.

Speaker 3 (19:35):
Okay, they still have a check book, which I haven't
seen one in a really long time.

Speaker 1 (19:39):
I have people that want checks. Really, there are some
people I write checks too, that give me a discount
for writing a check.

Speaker 2 (19:45):
It's like cash, right, basically cash.

Speaker 1 (19:48):
Yeah, that's the only reason. I literally write two checks
a month. So that's a half a boomer.

Speaker 2 (19:52):
My mom uses a fax machine almost daily.

Speaker 1 (19:55):
Still, yes, mom e facts.

Speaker 2 (19:58):
I know at least old school, a.

Speaker 1 (20:01):
Couple more from Reddit. They think their collectibles are truly valuable.
It's so funny. My mom's house is like a museum.
I guess the older you get, the more stuff you have, right,
and you don't want to let it go, And then
your kids grow up and they're out of the house.
It literally is the Smithsonian of our family.

Speaker 3 (20:18):
Same we still have drawings from second grade, all still up.

Speaker 1 (20:22):
On the fridge. Right, this is a tough one. Somebody wrote,
they stay married forever when they behave like neither one
of them they can actually stand each other. I wow,
being married is a choice, and the number one cornerstone
is you're in it for it and forever's a long time,
and you're in it and you better work it out
with your person. But what if you can't do your

(20:46):
parents do this? Somebody wrote, my dad pretty much exclusively
has his phone on speaker and just walks around in
public talking on it at max volume.

Speaker 3 (20:54):
My dad's the opposite. He's always wearing headphones. That person's
like a screenager.

Speaker 1 (20:58):
I love my father in law. He care He has
a bluetooth earpiece like he could take a phone call
at any second.

Speaker 3 (21:03):
Oh my mom has one that's so crazy, constantly making moves.

Speaker 1 (21:08):
Anyway, younger generations felling the strangest things their boomer parents do.

going on in their lives that this absolutely qualifies for
good news. This is from Robin in the East Bay.

(22:08):
She wants to give a shout out to her stepfather
who was walking five fits a five ka day to
help raise awareness for mental health. She said he started
it at the beginning of twenty twenty five, takes his
dog every single day, walks five kilometers rain or shine,

(22:31):
and at the end of the year he did like
a Forest Gump style kind of ending, kind of reveal,
but then decided, no, we got to keep going, he said.
She said his dog walked with him every single day
and if he stopped doing it, she would be disappointed.
Of course she would. So we got to get a
shout out to David. You might know him, David TRINGHALLI
out there in Pittsburgh walking five ka day to help

(22:54):
