There is a VERY thin line between looking cool and looking like a complete jerk. We get into the behaviors that cross it, the mistakes Gen Z saw older generations make and decided to skip entirely, and the surprisingly controversial question: what is a normal amount of time to shower?!

Speaker 1 (00:00):
Star one Oh one three. It's Marcus in the morning.
Bridget Taylor is here. It's obviously Friday.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
Oh yeah.

Speaker 1 (00:04):
We're out of our minds.

Speaker 2 (00:05):
It's so Friday.

Speaker 1 (00:06):
It's such the most Friday, Friday ever went to back
to school night last night. And my daughter left us
the cutest note.

Speaker 2 (00:14):
Okay.

Speaker 1 (00:15):
In her homeroom. So the teacher, the assignment to the kids,
my daughter's 12, the assignment to the kids was write
a note to, to your humans. What do you need?

Speaker 3 (00:24):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (00:24):
Some kids wrote like more snacks, more juice boxes, please. Uh,
And my daughter just wrote, I'm only going to read
the first line. Hello, mother and father. And remember, it's
back to school night.

Speaker 3 (00:39):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (00:39):
So I know you don't want to be here right now.

Speaker 2 (00:43):
Oh, my God.

Speaker 1 (00:45):
Don't worry. You'll get ice cream when you get home.

Speaker 2 (00:49):
Oh, that's actually really cute.

Speaker 1 (00:50):
Come on. I know you don't want to be here.

Speaker 2 (00:54):
That's really cute.

Speaker 1 (00:55):
I mean, look, everybody has a long day on back
to school night.

Speaker 3 (00:58):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (00:58):
Whether it's the parents that go to work all day
and then get home and try to manage dinner. And
then like, where am I putting my kids so that
we can go to back to school? And then you
sit through back to school night and, you know, it
was three hours.

Speaker 4 (01:11):
What?

Speaker 2 (01:12):
For why?

Speaker 1 (01:12):
Six, seven, eight. Yeah, because there's a full presentation and
then you go to each classroom and the teachers give presentations.
And it's also a long day for the teachers because
they got to teach your kid all day and then
saddle up and try to hold your attention for three hours.
Like it's rough.

Speaker 2 (01:26):
Floki is snooze fest.

Speaker 1 (01:28):
But necessary. I learned a lot. But then also there
was ice cream at the end of the rainbow.

Speaker 2 (01:32):
There you go.

Speaker 1 (01:33):
How was your night?

Speaker 2 (01:34):
It was good. Yeah, I went out for drinks last
night with one of my girlfriends. It was fun. All right.

Speaker 1 (01:40):
Well, there you go. This is life lessons that Gen
X and boomers learn the hard way that Gen Z
usually avoids. I'm going to run through these. One of
them I don't really agree with. And then you tell
me if these are legit or not.

Speaker 2 (01:56):
Okay.

Speaker 1 (01:56):
Life lesson number one, boredom is not a bad thing.
Older generations learn how to fill empty time, empty space.
while constant entertainment is now the norm, are you able
to be bored?

Speaker 2 (02:09):
I do struggle being bored. I will say that.

Speaker 1 (02:12):
But I do think it's important to be bored. Can
you sit quietly with no phone? No nothing. Just sitting
there doing nothing? With your thoughts.

Speaker 2 (02:22):
Not at my house, but if I'm waiting for something,
like somewhere else, yes.

Speaker 1 (02:27):
Something came up during back to school last night that
I thought was interesting in this regard. the head of
school was talking about back in the day, if you're
Gen X or boomers, you took a road trip. And
a lot of times it was with, you had nothing, nothing.
Literally you're playing, you know, license plate bingo out the window.
We had no phones, no screens, sometimes no books if

(02:49):
you forgot or whatever. And it was just your pleasure
to get in the car and drive eight hours to
the Grand Canyon, let's say. And then you get there
and the destination is the prize and you marvel at
the Grand Canyon and But these days, with kids having
screens and whatever else, the dopamine's hitting them so hard
for so long in the car, by the time they

(03:10):
get to the Grand Canyon, they don't care.

Speaker 2 (03:11):
Also, they can look up a picture of the Grand
Canyon on the way there.

Speaker 1 (03:14):
And be like, I've seen it. Yeah, seen it. Can
we go home now?

Speaker 3 (03:18):
Right.

Speaker 1 (03:19):
Didn't even think about it that way, but that's legit.
Something else. Again, life lessons Gen X and boomers learn
the hard way Gen Z usually avoids. Hard conversations should
happen face to face.

Speaker 2 (03:28):
Oh, I 100% agree with that.

Speaker 1 (03:30):
Phones and texting can make it easier, but it's not
as impactful.

Speaker 5 (03:34):
No, I think it's like if you care about somebody,
I think it's important for your relationship to have a
face to face conversation.

Speaker 1 (03:42):
I'm glad you said that because I don't think I
could have a hard conversation with you on text. Taylor
does this thing. I'll write something super meaningful and then
she'll just leave me on read for eight hours.

Speaker 2 (03:53):
Yeah, I do do that. I can attest.

Speaker 1 (03:59):
Let's do a couple more. You cannot avoid responsibility forever.
Blaming other people will not fix mistakes and refusing to
take responsibility can hurt relationships and other parts of life.
What else? Daily life is not always glamorous. I know
with like Instagram and TikTok, we try to make it
look glamorous at all times. It's not always glamorous. Sometimes

(04:22):
it's a grind.

Speaker 2 (04:23):
Oh, for sure. I think that's true. Majority of the time.

Speaker 1 (04:26):
Sometimes, sometimes you need an extra 10 minute nap in
your car and a way to work.

Speaker 4 (04:30):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (04:31):
Oh yeah. Been there.

Speaker 1 (04:34):
All right. Life lessons that you learned as a Gen
Xer or a boomer that Gen Z will usually avoid.
If you've got one, you can hit us with a
talk back. That's the little red microphone. If you're streaming
star one on one three right now, I want to
continue the discussion. Would love to hear from you. Behaviors
people think make them look impressive that are actually rude.
I have a list of about six. I only care

(04:55):
about two of these. I'm so passionate about these two.
The rest of them don't even matter. It's Star 101.3.
It's Marcus in the morning. Taylor is here. It's Friday.
Number one, being, quote, brutally honest. Nothing irritates me more
than that one person in your friend group that's just like,
I'm just keeping it real. And then they use that
as license to pop off and say whatever they want

(05:16):
about whoever they want and criticize whatever they want.

Speaker 2 (05:19):
Yeah, then they start doing too much.

Speaker 1 (05:21):
It says here, honesty matters. but saying hurtful things and
then defending it by saying you were only, quote, being
honest is different than giving actual useful feedback. The same
truth can be shared without being cruel. So show me
that person that says, I don't hate, but I'm just

(05:42):
keeping it real. Okay. The other one on here that
makes me crazy, the no days off mentality. Bragging about
constantly working.

Speaker 5 (05:52):
Yeah, honestly, that is not the flex that you think
it is. If anything, I just feel sad for you.

Speaker 1 (05:56):
Is it still a thing? It was a thing. Maybe
it is. Maybe it isn't for, you know, you're online
and then all people are talking about is their grind.
I'm on my grind.

Speaker 2 (06:03):
Which is great. Like, you know, I love that for you, but.

Speaker 1 (06:07):
But if you're grinding for like two decades and you're
not getting anywhere, like now I'm questioning your process. Yeah,
that's true. You know what I mean? Like, show me
the results.

Speaker 6 (06:15):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (06:16):
Like, I don't care how hard you work. Show me
the results. You know, or. I follow a couple of
guys where they have to list out what they're doing
that day. And it's like minute to minute. Look how
busy I am.

Speaker 4 (06:30):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (06:31):
At the gym.

Speaker 1 (06:33):
I would rather show you me on the back balcony
overlooking the ocean with a glass tequila.

Speaker 3 (06:38):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (06:39):
That's where I'd be too.

Speaker 1 (06:40):
I'm on my grind.

Speaker 7 (06:41):
I'm on my grind.

Speaker 2 (06:42):
Daily grind.

Speaker 1 (06:44):
My Friday grind. A couple of these are good too.
So again, things that people think make them look impressive
that actually seem rude. Acting like you don't care. Yeah.

Speaker 5 (06:56):
I mean, I think it doesn't cost you anything to
care about something, you know? And I think if you
give off the impression that you don't care about anything,
I don't trust you.

Speaker 1 (07:06):
The other one on here is competing over who's the
most exhausted. Oh, yeah.

Speaker 5 (07:11):
It's like, I'm so tired because I didn't get a
lot of sleep. Oh, well, I didn't get less sleep.

Speaker 1 (07:15):
Okay. Okay.

Speaker 2 (07:18):
We're all tired.

Speaker 1 (07:19):
Refusing to compromise. Standing on business is important. However, refusing
to bend on anything can make you just look stubborn.

Speaker 2 (07:29):
Yeah, I can agree with that.

Speaker 1 (07:31):
So there you go. Free Fridays today. Our shelter this
week is the Humane Society Silicon Valley and Yahtzee is
coming in. He's a very sweet, adventurous pup who loves
people playing and cuddling. He is hearing and vision impaired,
but he doesn't let that slow him down. He's neutered.

(07:51):
He's microchipped. He's vaccinated. He's looking for a family ready
to discover his personality. He looks like the cutest dog ever.

Speaker 2 (07:59):
Adorable.

Speaker 1 (07:59):
He's actually joining us in the studio today, so there
will be a live feed. Make sure you're following Star1013FM
up on Instagram, especially if you love the doggies. Information
on adopting Yahtzee is right there as well. So follow
Star1013FM up on Instagram and check out the video. Spice

(08:23):
rare tracks, previously unreleased recordings. It's going to be a
massive vinyl and CD box set arriving November 6th, just
in time for the holidays.

Speaker 2 (08:30):
There you go.

Speaker 1 (08:30):
Loves that. Harry Styles just added a 2027 stadium tour.
And Taylor said the strangest thing, knowing how much you
love Harry Styles, you said, thank God he's not coming here.

Speaker 2 (08:43):
No, I did not say that.

Speaker 1 (08:44):
Is that not what you said?

Speaker 2 (08:44):
That's not what I said.

Speaker 1 (08:45):
What did you say?

Speaker 2 (08:46):
I said, of course he's not coming here.

Speaker 1 (08:49):
Oh, I totally read that wrong.

Speaker 2 (08:51):
Yeah, no, I would not say that.

Speaker 1 (08:52):
I would not. In my mind, I was like, why
would she say that? Is it too stressful to get tickets?

Speaker 2 (08:56):
No.

Speaker 1 (08:58):
What's the closest he's going to be here?

Speaker 3 (09:00):
L.A.

Speaker 8 (09:01):
Okay.

Speaker 3 (09:01):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (09:01):
So he's going to be in Phoenix as well, I think,
in L.A. No San Francisco date. Now it's weird.

Speaker 5 (09:06):
Well, I'm just like, why does SF always get the
shaft with stuff like this?

Speaker 2 (09:11):
We've got to get some love over here, you know?

Speaker 1 (09:14):
We're going to be out and about this weekend. We
would love to meet you in person. So Taylor is
going to be out in Daly City.

Speaker 5 (09:20):
Yes, I will be at the Grocery Outlet on Mission
in Daly City.

Speaker 1 (09:24):
Okay.

Speaker 2 (09:25):
I will be there tomorrow for their Pack to School event.

Speaker 1 (09:28):
What's that about?

Speaker 5 (09:29):
Where we'll be giving away a bunch of fun prizes
like snacks, lunch boxes.

Speaker 2 (09:33):
Backpacks, stuff like that.

Speaker 1 (09:35):
So 9 to 11?

Speaker 2 (09:35):
Yep, 9 to 11 tomorrow.

Speaker 1 (09:37):
Tomorrow morning with the crew. Come by, get some stuff.
The Grocery Outlet in Daly City there on Mission. I'm
going to be hosting a couple of events. I'll be
at Palma Palooza in Pacifica. This is a benefit. for
the Pacifica Resource Center. They provide basic needs for low-income
families in the area. So if you are in the area,
you want to come through, I know tickets are still available.
That's going to be a great time. Dinner, drinks, I'll

(09:59):
be doing the auction and hoping to raise some money.
So that'll be Saturday starting at 5 o'clock. Sunday, it's
for the animals. It's party like an animal. This is
going to be at the Ameswell Hotel in Mountain View.
from 4 to 7, an outdoor garden party. So meet
me Saturday, meet me Sunday. Let's finish strong with Producer
Taylor's Daily Poll. What do you have?

Speaker 5 (10:19):
It is National Library Day today, so we're asking what
is the best library perk? Is it free books, the
peace and quiet, getting some work done, or some of
their community events?

Speaker 1 (10:29):
I like all of those.

Speaker 5 (10:30):
You know, I like that you can go there and
it's always guaranteed that it's peace and quiet and I
can use their bathroom.

Speaker 1 (10:36):
Dude, the Half Moon Bay Library is top tier.

Speaker 5 (10:39):
Yeah, they right after I graduated from high school, they
redid the library in Los Gatos.

Speaker 2 (10:44):
And it is so beautiful.

Speaker 1 (10:46):
Give some love to your library today for sure. There
it is. And that's what's trending 650 to Marcus in
the morning. We're back with second date update. Y'all know
how it works. People go on first dates. Somebody gets
ghosted happens all the time. We're going to call that
date with their date on the phone and see how
it went down. See what happens. See how we can
improve ourselves. Try to get a second date. That's ultimately

(11:06):
what I want to do. Brought to you by Pomponio
Ranch Meats. It's the Bay's beef jerky. Pasture-raised cows right
here on the San Mateo County coast. If you order some,
I'll get you half off with my code. Use MARCUS50,
M-A-R-C-U-S-5-0 at checkout. It's pomponioranchmeats.com. Let's say good morning to Heather.
Are you there?

Speaker 7 (11:23):
Yeah, I'm right here.

Speaker 3 (11:25):
Hey.

Speaker 1 (11:26):
Heather already sounds defeated. We haven't even started yet.

Speaker 3 (11:28):
Come on.

Speaker 1 (11:29):
Positive vibes. Tell us all about Liam. What, how was
your date?

Speaker 3 (11:36):
Yeah.

Speaker 7 (11:37):
I mean, that's, it was good. I thought like we
went to dinner in San Mateo. Like I just, I
don't know. Date felt great. Like he's funny, confident, easy
to talk to, like all the things.

Speaker 3 (11:46):
Okay.

Speaker 1 (11:47):
I don't know.

Speaker 7 (11:48):
We talked about travel stuff and pets and like, we
had like the same weird childhood fears. Like it was
just like a cute conversation.

Speaker 3 (11:57):
And I don't know.

Speaker 7 (11:58):
I laughed more than I usually do on a first date.
And I was thinking, you know, okay, that was actually
really fun when I left, you know?

Speaker 1 (12:05):
I can hear you psychoanalyzing the date while you're talking.
I don't know how many times it's been.

Speaker 8 (12:12):
I don't know.

Speaker 7 (12:13):
Like, nothing.

Speaker 1 (12:14):
No text.

Speaker 3 (12:15):
No follow-up.

Speaker 7 (12:16):
It was just, like, full ghost.

Speaker 2 (12:19):
Okay.

Speaker 7 (12:22):
So, yeah, I figured, why not? Let's find out what
the deal is.

Speaker 3 (12:25):
Sure.

Speaker 1 (12:25):
All right, so go ahead and mute your phone. We're
going to give him a shout right now and see
why he ghosted. Here we go.

Speaker 3 (12:35):
Hello?

Speaker 1 (12:36):
Hi, I'm looking for Liam.

Speaker 3 (12:38):
Speaking.

Speaker 1 (12:39):
Liam, this is Marcus calling from Star 101.3 from The
Morning Show.

Speaker 3 (12:43):
This is calling regarding.

Speaker 1 (12:45):
Do you listen to my show at all?

Speaker 3 (12:48):
No, no, I can't say I'm much of a radio man.

Speaker 1 (12:51):
Okay, so we do a radio show. We do a
segment on the show. It's called Second Date Update. And
we got floated your phone number because there's a young
lady that you took out on a date who is
convinced you ghosted her. And we're just trying to figure
out if she did something wrong... or if you've just
been busy, or you weren't feeling it. Do you remember
going on a date with a girl named Heather? I

(13:12):
remember it very well. Did you ghost?

Speaker 3 (13:15):
Yeah, I did not reach out again.

Speaker 1 (13:18):
Okay. Did something go wrong?

Speaker 7 (13:23):
It's not.

Speaker 3 (13:26):
Heather is a very lovely person. The date started out strong,
and she's definitely quirky, very funny. We bonded over a lot.

Speaker 1 (13:36):
Okay.

Speaker 3 (13:37):
But I don't really know how to, like, say that
she kept referring to everyone around her as, like, characters.

Speaker 1 (13:46):
Okay.

Speaker 3 (13:46):
And not as a joke.

Speaker 8 (13:48):
It was like she was, like, narrating a movie in
her head or something. So the server that night was
a strong supporting character.

Speaker 3 (13:55):
The couple that was near the bar had definite background energy.

Speaker 1 (13:59):
This sounds like Disneyland or something.

Speaker 3 (14:03):
Yeah, the restaurant had really interesting casting.

Speaker 1 (14:07):
Yes.

Speaker 3 (14:09):
I wasn't sure if I was being pranked or not,
so I was checking to see if somebody was filming
or something at some point. I just didn't know how
to take it, and then I was rolling with the punches.

Speaker 1 (14:19):
Okay.

Speaker 3 (14:20):
And I started... trying to like pull it back into
us and then focusing on, on the two of us.
So I started talking about my job a little bit.
And then she like took me in and said, Oh,
I wouldn't have guessed that for you. And then nothing
else like no, no question, no followup. Like that was
just it move on to something else.

Speaker 8 (14:42):
And, and I just ended up feeling like I was
being judged and psychoanalyzed for.

Speaker 3 (14:47):
The entire evening.

Speaker 8 (14:47):
And that's not, you know, that's not really how I
wanted to Sure.

Speaker 1 (14:52):
Okay, so part of this, Liam, is that Heather's actually listening.
And I hope she's hearing all this. If you don't mind,
I'd like to bring her on.

Speaker 3 (15:00):
Hey, man.

Speaker 1 (15:02):
I mean, we're here. Heather?

Speaker 2 (15:04):
Yeah, hi.

Speaker 1 (15:06):
So this is a little odd. I'm not going to lie.

Speaker 7 (15:09):
Well, I mean, I'm just observant. Like, I like to
read energy, I guess. I didn't mean anything by it.
I notice patterns. This is how my brain works.

Speaker 1 (15:17):
Right.

Speaker 3 (15:18):
But.

Speaker 1 (15:20):
It's not something you want to say out loud, necessarily.
What about this whole character thing? Are you in a sitcom?

Speaker 3 (15:25):
I don't know.

Speaker 7 (15:25):
I'm just, like, figuring out the room and, like, figuring
out what people.

Speaker 3 (15:29):
Are like, I guess.

Speaker 7 (15:31):
And I just never, like, figured your job would be
your job. And so I just said so. Like, just
one of those things.

Speaker 3 (15:37):
Like, I'm just looking at, you know, the room around
me and stuff. Sure. I guess it just feels weird
to feel like I'm being categorized or, like, cast as
in somebody else's story.

Speaker 7 (15:50):
You were laughing, so I just thought I was like
being playful and thoughtful, not strange.

Speaker 3 (15:55):
But like you don't work in TV or film or
anything like that. That would have made sense, I guess.

Speaker 7 (16:01):
Oh my God, it was just a conversation.

Speaker 1 (16:03):
Okay. Does anybody want to try second date at this point?

Speaker 3 (16:08):
I feel like I'm good.

Speaker 7 (16:10):
No, I guess not.

Speaker 1 (16:11):
It's fine.

Speaker 3 (16:13):
Okay.

Speaker 1 (16:13):
Hang on. Well, that was easy. Tap out. Anyway, second
date update. How long do you spend in the shower typically,
Producer Taylor? Oh, sorry. Star 1013. It is Marcus in
the morning. It is Friday.

Speaker 5 (16:22):
It is.

Speaker 1 (16:23):
So average time in the shower and go.

Speaker 2 (16:26):
It depends. Okay. Am I taking an everything shower? Is
this just like I'm washing my body?

Speaker 1 (16:32):
Is that like an everything bagel? What's an everything shower?

Speaker 5 (16:35):
The girlies know what I mean. But an everything shower
means that I'm washing my hair. I'm shaving my legs.

Speaker 1 (16:41):
Okay.

Speaker 2 (16:42):
Everything.

Speaker 1 (16:42):
Full maintenance.

Speaker 6 (16:43):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (16:43):
Full detail.

Speaker 2 (16:44):
Exactly. You know, I might even do a hair mask,
something like that.

Speaker 1 (16:48):
How long does that take in the shower under the water?

Speaker 5 (16:51):
Don't judge me. Roughly around 30 to 45 minutes. Have
you seen my hair though?

Speaker 1 (16:56):
Truth.

Speaker 2 (16:57):
I have so much of it.

Speaker 1 (16:58):
What if you're just doing what they call a body shower?

Speaker 2 (17:00):
Just a body shower, five to 10 minutes.

Speaker 1 (17:02):
Okay. So one environmental science, my scientist says the average
person takes about 15. All we need is three.

Speaker 2 (17:11):
Three minutes? Who are they talking about?

Speaker 1 (17:13):
They're going to give you two extra minutes if you
have to wash your hair.

Speaker 2 (17:17):
Are you kidding me? No, five minutes for all of
this is not happening. It's not.

Speaker 1 (17:22):
Have you ever been in a situation where it was
like a stress shower situation?

Speaker 2 (17:26):
Oh, for sure.

Speaker 1 (17:27):
For me, it's camping, right? You're camping. You get in there.
You put your quarters in. You've got like two minutes.

Speaker 5 (17:32):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (17:33):
No, for me, when you're in treatment, we had 12 minutes.

Speaker 1 (17:36):
That was it?

Speaker 2 (17:37):
Yeah, and if you weren't one of the first three
to get in, your shower is freezing cold. It was
not vibes.

Speaker 1 (17:43):
So they say the average American lasts about 16 minutes.
Longer showers often have less to do with getting clean
and more to do with relaxing, warming up, or just
enjoying the water. Does anybody else just kind of sit
there under the cascading, but get the hottest water imaginable?
This is me. Hottest water imaginable, handle my business. And yes,

(18:03):
I am able to do it in about six minutes,
but then I want to spend about 15 just contemplating
my life choices and pretending I'm under a waterfall.

Speaker 2 (18:11):
Marcus out here wasting water.

Speaker 1 (18:13):
Hey okay whatever miss 45.

Speaker 5 (18:16):
Minutes i'm okay but i'm actually cleaning myself the whole
time still i'm not just standing there pondering life.

Speaker 1 (18:23):
Wait hold on so just because you're doing stuff and
ergo it's not a waste of water okay i.

Speaker 5 (18:28):
Mean technically it's all a waste of water we should
be taking baths right but that's like that's.

Speaker 1 (18:34):
Dirt That's you sitting in your own field?

Speaker 2 (18:37):
A dirt tub and I'm not vibes.

Speaker 1 (18:38):
This is taking a turn. People are having breakfast.

Speaker 3 (18:41):
Sorry.

Speaker 1 (18:42):
Let's go ahead and get back on the road. All right.
So we're about 30 minutes away from the trivia game.
By the way, I forgot to mention, if you want
to check in, how long do you shower? What does
your everything shower consist of? These are all the questions
I have today. Hard-hitting journalism on the show today.

Speaker 2 (18:57):
Of course.

Speaker 6 (18:58):
It's time.

Speaker 8 (19:01):
For good news, Bay Area.

Speaker 1 (19:02):
It's Marcus in the morning. Thank you for having us on.
Happy Friday. Put a smile on your face right now.
I thought I'd do one in honor of furry Fridays
where we try to get the shelters in the Bay
cleared out, get these animals adopted. This is a story
of a kitty whose life was saved by firefighters because
from a house fire, they used a little special kitty
oxygen mask to help him breathe. Earlier this week, these

(19:24):
are firefighters in Phoenix. They rescued the cat from a
burning home, found it while searching the house. And so
one firefighter went to go get the cat. The other
firefighters are helping to bring the fire under control. Once
he got outside, they fitted him with a special little
kitty mask. And I just, I don't know, I think
that's adorable. Saved his life. That's a win. And that's

(19:47):
my good news. It is Marcus in the morning. it's
time to play the base favorite trivia game this is
called what you know about that y'all already know it's
brought to you by my people at cameron's pub love
going down there on the weekends come hang out man
it's 30 minutes from the city 30 minutes from san
jose perfect weekend getaway maybe i'll see you there Say
good morning to our contestants. We go to Newark and
say what's up to Hannah. Good morning, Hannah.

Speaker 7 (20:07):
Good morning, Marcus and Taylor.

Speaker 1 (20:09):
How are you? What's going on this morning? I'm getting
ready to go to work. What do you do for work?
You know what?

Speaker 6 (20:14):
I work at Pets in Need, the animal shelter.

Speaker 4 (20:16):
You're actually going to be our MC for our fundraiser.

Speaker 1 (20:18):
Oh, my God. I'll see you Sunday.

Speaker 7 (20:19):
Yeah, I'm excited to meet you.

Speaker 1 (20:22):
Oh, this is exciting. We have to give a plug.
So Pets in Need, it's an animal shelter on the peninsula.
They're doing an event this Sunday called Party Like an
Animal that I'm emceeing and helping to raise money. It's
at the Ameswell Hotel in Mountain View from 4 to
7 this Sunday, if you could make it. We'll be
on the back lawn. In fact, let me put a
link for tickets in my bio at itsmarcusd on Instagram.

Speaker 5 (20:42):
Yes.

Speaker 1 (20:42):
All right, let's go out to Novato. Say good morning
to Steven. Good morning, Steven.

Speaker 5 (20:46):
Hi, Marcus.

Speaker 3 (20:47):
Taylor, how are you doing?

Speaker 2 (20:47):
Good.

Speaker 1 (20:48):
What are you doing this morning, bud?

Speaker 3 (20:51):
I just dropped my son off at school and now
I'm waiting to get my blood drawn to the doctor's office.

Speaker 1 (20:55):
This is a big day for Steven.

Speaker 2 (20:57):
I hope they give you a cookie afterwards. You deserve it.

Speaker 3 (21:01):
Oh gosh, a lollipop or something.

Speaker 5 (21:03):
Right?

Speaker 1 (21:04):
Well, welcome to the show. So the game is super simple.
It's five trivia questions, 50 seconds to answer them all.
Each person is going to be asked separately with their
opponent on hold. Just get as many right as you can.
Yell out pass if you don't know an answer and
we'll come back to it if there's time, okay?

Speaker 3 (21:17):
All right.

Speaker 1 (21:17):
So Steven goes on hold in Novato. And we start
with Hannah in Newark.

Speaker 8 (21:21):
All right.

Speaker 1 (21:22):
Question number one. What is Superman's alter ego?

Speaker 3 (21:27):
Mark Kent.

Speaker 1 (21:28):
How many branches of government are there in the United States?

Speaker 5 (21:32):
Three.

Speaker 1 (21:33):
What does Hakuna Matata mean?

Speaker 3 (21:36):
No worries.

Speaker 1 (21:37):
In football, how many players does each team have on
the field at one time?

Speaker 6 (21:43):
Eleven.

Speaker 1 (21:43):
And how many days of Kwanzaa are there?

Speaker 3 (21:47):
Two.

Speaker 6 (21:51):
Seven.

Speaker 3 (21:52):
Okay.

Speaker 1 (21:53):
And that's for everything. She goes on hold in Newark.
Pick up Steven in Novato.

Speaker 2 (21:58):
Yeah, I'm ready. Question number one. What is Superman's alter ego?

Speaker 1 (22:06):
Clark Kent.

Speaker 2 (22:07):
How many branches of government are there in the United States? Three.
What does Hakuna Matata mean?

Speaker 1 (22:14):
No worries.

Speaker 2 (22:18):
In football, how many.

Speaker 5 (22:19):
Players does each team have on the field at one time?

Speaker 3 (22:24):
American football, 11. I guess it's the same.

Speaker 2 (22:28):
And how many days of Kwanzaa are there?

Speaker 3 (22:32):
Oh, gosh. I'm going to have to guess. Let's go
with eight. All right.

Speaker 1 (22:40):
Okay. All right, Stephen had an answer for everything. We
bring back Hannah in Newark to see how she did
against Stephen in Novato. Question number one, what is Superman's
alter ego?

Speaker 2 (22:50):
Both of you knew that that was Clark Kent.

Speaker 1 (22:53):
Next question, how many branches of government are there in.

Speaker 2 (22:55):
The U.S.? There are three branches, and both of you
got that correct.

Speaker 1 (22:58):
You guys, can we name them, though? Yeah, right. Are
we real Americans?

Speaker 6 (23:02):
Stop.

Speaker 3 (23:04):
Executive, legislature, judicial.

Speaker 8 (23:07):
Nice.

Speaker 2 (23:07):
There we go.

Speaker 1 (23:08):
Check out the overachiever.

Speaker 2 (23:10):
Nice, good job, Steven.

Speaker 1 (23:11):
Next question, what does Hakuna Matata mean?

Speaker 2 (23:14):
It means no worries for the rest of your days.
You guys both got that correct.

Speaker 1 (23:21):
Yay. In football, or as Steven the overachiever would say, oh,
you mean American football?

Speaker 5 (23:26):
Yes.

Speaker 1 (23:27):
How many players does each team have on the field
at one time?

Speaker 5 (23:30):
I'm so glad both of you knew that it was
11 players, especially because we just started our season yesterday.

Speaker 1 (23:35):
That's right. Go Niners. Finally, how many days of Kwanzaa
are there?

Speaker 2 (23:40):
Hannah said seven. Stephen said eight. The correct answer is seven.
That brings our final score, five to four. Hannah's our winner.

Speaker 4 (23:46):
Hannah, with the perfect score, and you needed every single point.
You've got the tickets for Miss Lauryn Hill, White Clemson.
November 4th at the Greek, courtesy of another plan. They're
on sale now at Ticketmaster, but you've got yours.

Speaker 1 (23:58):
Strong work. Stephen, you're going to grab... So my daughter
bedazzled some star stickers as her summer project. So it
is a custom bedazzled star sticker. Stick wherever you'd like, okay?
Thank you for playing.

Speaker 3 (24:10):
Awesome.

Speaker 1 (24:10):
That's cute.

Speaker 6 (24:11):
I love it.

Speaker 1 (24:12):
What are you talking about?

Speaker 2 (24:13):
Play with us again weekday mornings at 8.05 a.m.

Speaker 1 (24:15):
And add the What You Know About That podcast as
a preset on our iHeart app and never miss an episode.
It's Marcus in the morning. We are joined by Katie
from the Humane Society Silicon Valley. And Yahtzee is here.
Tell us everything we need to know about Yahtzee because
I just met him and I know he's blind and deaf,
but he is the most adorable dog ever.

Speaker 6 (24:35):
So Yahtzee is two years old. The sweetest boy.

Speaker 1 (24:39):
My gosh.

Speaker 6 (24:40):
Loves to be around people. Very sunny disposition. Very playful.

Speaker 5 (24:45):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (24:46):
I'd say he's a Velcro dog. He just wants.

Speaker 1 (24:49):
To be where the action is. No, he wants to
go home with me.

Speaker 4 (24:51):
He does.

Speaker 1 (24:51):
And I want him to come home with me.

Speaker 6 (24:53):
We want this for you too, Marcus.

Speaker 3 (24:55):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (24:56):
The crazy thing is, is he's so playful. You can't
even tell that he can't see or you can't hear
because his sense of smell is so strong. He knows
exactly where you are.

Speaker 6 (25:04):
Absolutely. And without having the visual and audible senses, the
sense of smell really becomes a very important cue.

Speaker 1 (25:13):
Sure.

Speaker 6 (25:13):
They can really map out the room and get that
spatial awareness just through their nose.

Speaker 3 (25:18):
Okay.

Speaker 1 (25:18):
What's his perfect household?

Speaker 6 (25:20):
Perfect household, loves to be with the family. I'd say
where there's a backyard or room to walk, does really
well on leash, but just really loves people. Friendly, does
well with younger dogs, female dogs, but just wants to
be where the people are.

Speaker 1 (25:37):
So somebody out there listening, if they're thinking about adding
a fur baby, gets a better picture. What kind of
dog would we consider him? And what size would you
consider him right now?

Speaker 2 (25:45):
I'd say medium.

Speaker 8 (25:47):
Right.

Speaker 6 (25:47):
Higher end of medium. We don't know the breed, so
definite crossbreed.

Speaker 1 (25:52):
He's some sort of sausage dog. A little bit of
a low rider. Absolutely. Oh, I have to stop. I'm
going to take him home right now. Come see Yahtzee.
The video will be up on the Star 1013 FM Instagram. Actually,
we're live streaming on Marcus in the morning right now,
so you can check that out. And what else is
going on with the Humane Society of Silicon Valley?

Speaker 6 (26:09):
So we've got a couple things going on next weekend,
September 19th. We're going to be in San Jose for
Bark in the Park.

Speaker 1 (26:14):
Love it.

Speaker 6 (26:15):
So we'll be providing vaccines for the community.

Speaker 1 (26:18):
Okay.

Speaker 6 (26:19):
And then that following weekend on the 27th, that Sunday,
we're participating in Champions for Pet Wellness. So we're going
to be joining 11 other Bay Area shelters and providing free,
no-cost spay and neuters.

Speaker 1 (26:32):
Awesome.

Speaker 6 (26:32):
So if you're interested in attending either of those events,
you can check them out on our website, hssv.org.

Speaker 1 (26:38):
There it is. You're a pro, Katie. Now we have
to get Yahtzee out of here before I get him
out of here.

Speaker 6 (26:42):
Absolutely. Yahtzee is looking for a home.

Speaker 1 (26:46):
And available to adopt. Oh, just adopt this guy right now.
Thanks for coming in.

Speaker 6 (26:49):
Thanks for having me, Marcus.

Speaker 1 (26:50):
Get that adoption info link in bio star one, one,
three FM up on Instagram right now. Marcus in the morning.
Have a great weekend.

Speaker 3 (26:58):
Okay.

Speaker 1 (26:58):
We're getting out of here. Enjoy that sunshine. We'll talk
to you Monday.
