Speaker 1 (00:00):
Star one on one three. It's Marcus in the morning
right before six o'clock. Producer Taylor also here this morning.
Speaker 2 (00:03):
Good morning, Good morning.
Speaker 1 (00:04):
I have a gift for you.
Speaker 2 (00:06):
Do you really got.
Speaker 1 (00:08):
All about it's been here all week. You're gonna be mad.
Speaker 2 (00:09):
Okay, what is it? My new headphone? Awesome? Thank you?
Speaker 1 (00:17):
What happened? I forgot? Oh? So, so I bought Taylor
some headphones. Uh for was for Christmas?
Speaker 3 (00:24):
Yeah, I think it was my birthday or so. This
is her first radio gig. You know, you gotta have
the good headphones. And and they broke like six months in.
Speaker 4 (00:35):
I was so heartbroken because I be dazzled them, I know, yeah,
they're so cute and I was.
Speaker 1 (00:40):
And then so we gave her. You know, we have
the house headphones, which is like it's like drinking the
house wine.
Speaker 4 (00:46):
Yeah, I mean, they do the job, but they're not
as comfortable as the other one.
Speaker 1 (00:51):
I don't even want to tell you how many people
have borne those headphones. Oh gosh, thanks for that. So
we got some freshies. It's exciting. We'll have an unboxing'll
be fun. Just found the most fun thing we could
possibly talk about right now. The Top ten britishisms that
Americans love the most.
Speaker 4 (01:08):
This is perfect for us because we'd be doing British
accents every day.
Speaker 1 (01:12):
I was gonna say, it's not about the britishism. The
number one is cheers, but it's not about You can't
just you have to do it correctly. You can't just
say it's Tuesday, isn't it?
Speaker 2 (01:22):
Yeah, you have.
Speaker 1 (01:23):
To say it's.
Speaker 4 (01:27):
And it's I just love it, like I love going
out into like a random accent.
Speaker 1 (01:31):
Now most people get it off TV, social media, YouTube.
Kids are catching it off of British shows like Peppa Pig.
For example. My Whole Existence is an episode of Ted Lasso.
I know you don't know what that means, but it's
an American football coach who goes overseas to coach a
British soccer club. Everybody everyone has an accent. I'll go home,
(01:55):
what are you doing? What's he doing? What is he?
Speaker 4 (01:59):
That's me with Love Island because I love Love Island UK,
And so it'd be like, what's gov you own?
Speaker 2 (02:05):
Bibes?
Speaker 1 (02:05):
Ribes, bribes or babes all day? Bibes babes. We really
are So Cheers is number one. I used to get
clown so hard by Sandy, my old partner for signing
emails Cheers. She's like, who do you think you are?
Speaker 4 (02:20):
Like?
Speaker 1 (02:21):
Apparently it was a little pretentious.
Speaker 4 (02:22):
I like it.
Speaker 2 (02:23):
I think Cheers is okay.
Speaker 1 (02:24):
Number two brilliant brilliant. Yes, yes, my wife loves to
say literally bloody brilliant. Literally cheeky.
Speaker 2 (02:32):
Oh yes, a bit cheeky.
Speaker 1 (02:34):
I love the definition of cheeky described behavior or speech
that is slightly rude, bold, or disrespectful, but in a playful, charming,
or amusing way that is not truly offensive. Okay, just
literally describe my entire existence.
Speaker 2 (02:46):
Yes.
Speaker 1 (02:47):
Number four nickers in a twist. Okay, don't get your
nickers in a twist.
Speaker 2 (02:52):
Yes, I've heard that one before.
Speaker 1 (02:55):
Jolly bloke right then, right right.
Speaker 4 (02:59):
Yes, I but I feel like bloke is a little
bit more Australian.
Speaker 5 (03:03):
Mmm.
Speaker 1 (03:07):
I was gonna correct you, but I'm not gonna dodgy
gobsmacked and posh is a good one. Give me, give
me one more, literally, give me one more Tuesday.
Speaker 2 (03:17):
In it it's change.
Speaker 1 (03:21):
Favorite British ism. So you can check in on the
talk back if you'd like. It's the little red microphone
on the iHeartRadio app do we miss anyone? Do we
miss it?
Speaker 2 (03:29):
I have a couple, go for it.
Speaker 4 (03:31):
So on Love Island they'll say you're being bang out
of order, buying out of order?
Speaker 1 (03:36):
One more time?
Speaker 2 (03:37):
Bang out of order?
Speaker 1 (03:38):
What does that mean?
Speaker 4 (03:39):
Like you're out of line? Okay, so that's that one.
And then there's well crack on, so that means like, okay, well,
if you're gonna do it, just do it and crack on.
And then you're mugging me off, which means like you're
you're being disrespectful.
Speaker 1 (03:55):
Or do you ever code switch? Because I'll code switch.
I don't ever call anybody mate unless they're British. I
have a British friend. Y'all might know Liam Minklin who
used to be on Channel five on Eye on the Bay,
and he and I will text sometimes and I will
always say cheers mate, as if I'm British for ten seconds.
Speaker 4 (04:13):
I don't think I've ever used that one. It's always
bipes pipes. Yeah, all right, British isms. Hit us up again.
The talkback is open.
Speaker 1 (04:21):
Saw this reddit thread hobbies that people secretly judge others
for having. So think about that. What's a hobby someone
would have that you would judge them on and why
is it my tequila obsession? I love this one, somebody
wrote considering my own hobbies include magic, the gathering, and
writing fan fiction in my late thirties, I quite enjoy
(04:43):
my own glasshouse. Really can't throw any stones. They're basically
saying they can't clown anybody else because their hobbies are
so lame.
Speaker 2 (04:50):
I could see that.
Speaker 1 (04:51):
Yeah, somebody else wrote anything that involves street racing or
revving cars so loud people in restaurants can't hear their conversation.
Speaker 4 (05:00):
I can totally agree with that one. Loud cars are
so frustrating for me.
Speaker 1 (05:04):
How pervasive are loud cars down there in those gattles
where you grew up.
Speaker 4 (05:08):
They're actually not too bad in those goddess because those
goddess is kind of quiet. It's where I live right now,
because I live in kind of like a busy little
intersection area, and so people are always honking car alarms
going off, people's street racing.
Speaker 2 (05:22):
It's so frustrating.
Speaker 1 (05:24):
And again I can't throw stones personally because I must
be exhausting to talk to. If you accidentally mentioned the word.
Speaker 4 (05:31):
Tequila, yeah, I can attest to that.
Speaker 1 (05:36):
Because people automatically are like, oh, you must drink a lot,
and it's possible, but I do it for science.
Speaker 4 (05:43):
Will you say that you drink tequila competitively? That's a
weird statement, right, It makes me laugh. Let's see what
else again. These are hobbies that people are secretly judging
you about. A lot of them pertain to sports. Obsessing
too much over a sport or a tea to the
point where it's your entire personality. Yeah, I have an
(06:05):
uncle who is obsessed with one of the teams.
Speaker 2 (06:09):
I think it's the Vikings.
Speaker 4 (06:10):
The purple right he has, Like his whole house is
like decked out in Viking here, Like the rooms are purple,
all of the bedding, everything he has is purple.
Speaker 2 (06:19):
Like he only wears the jerseys.
Speaker 1 (06:21):
We have a mutual friend. Shout out to my guy
Jim down there in the South Bay, completely mild mannered
by day. But once the Dolphins come to town and
we're going to the game and we're crashing the Dolphin
tailgate on September twentieth, and you will see Jim in
full face paint, wearing the craziest dolphin outfits. He's probably
listening right now. He actually got on TV he and
the wife flew to the draft and he got on TV.
(06:44):
I think, like with Roger Godell or something during the draft. Wow,
he's been recognized by the Miami Dolphins as like one
of the top fans.
Speaker 4 (06:51):
You know, honestly, I can't even hate on that because
I would probably do the same thing if it came
to like Billie Eilish or are you on a Grande
Love Island? Love exactly? You know, Like I go hard
for the things I love, so I get it.
Speaker 1 (07:03):
But again, most of us can't say a word because
we have nerdy hobbies. I'm gonna finish strong with this one.
Competitive eating. Somebody wrote, I understand liking food, but turning
turning it into I can eat an unreasonable amount of
this into a hobby will never make sense to.
Speaker 2 (07:20):
Me, Like almost like a muck bang or something.
Speaker 1 (07:23):
Dude, you ever watch a competitive eating contest. It sounds
like a good idea until you watch Joey Chestnuts, San
Jose's Finest take it Down, take down like seventy five
hot dogs.
Speaker 2 (07:33):
Yeah, like choke on a hot dog. See that's roxiety.
It is like you could choke.
Speaker 1 (07:38):
No, he's a pro. A guy's a pro. He trains.
Speaker 4 (07:41):
Dude, that's insane training for that, bro. You have to
lot to see what that regiment looks like. Give me
one hobby that you secretly judge people for having. I
think if you collect anything bodily, what does that mean,
like toenails or god like you're hair or something like that?
Speaker 1 (08:02):
For me is what little zero to silence in the
land is really fast?
Speaker 4 (08:06):
You know, I just watch a lot of horror. But yeah,
that's kind of crazy to me.
Speaker 1 (08:11):
I was in my happy place and now I have
a funny feeling in my tummy.
Speaker 5 (08:15):
Now here's what's running in the.
Speaker 1 (08:17):
Area and beyond. Lookout swifties. Taylor is teasing something, and
I want to know what's up.
Speaker 3 (08:29):
Came back.
Speaker 1 (08:30):
So apparently a bright green TS has surfaced online and
the Empire State Building in New York City has added
fuel by lighting of green and posting what ts happening?
Fanster guessing that it could be a reputation Taylor version
that is getting re recorded ahead of the twentieth anniversary,
(08:52):
or something completely new. So far, nothing has been confirmed.
She does love her Easter eggs. What else? This one
is a little interesting. So Mariah Carey is bringing back
glitter to celebrate the twenty fifth anniversary with a very
special edition starting October thirtieth. It's been off of streaming
because Taylor, were you around when this you were like two.
(09:15):
When Mariah Carey Glitter came out, we all hated it.
Speaker 2 (09:19):
I've never heard it.
Speaker 1 (09:20):
It was terrible. It is terrible, okay, but but it's
developed a cult following sense, So apparently Mimi is putting
it back online. All right, so cool. Does anybody listening
actually like that album? I mean it's possible. I don't know.
Big show coming in this weekend. Noah Khan going to
(09:42):
be at Oracle Park tonight. Oh you know, your boy's
going to be there. Not only that, but my daughter
has agreed to grace me with her presence. So she's
not really a big fan of his, but I think
she wants to hang out with her dad.
Speaker 2 (09:57):
Oh cute.
Speaker 1 (10:00):
I'm gonna try my best not to sing too loud.
I'm sorry. If you're sitting around me tonight, I may cry.
I don't know, I may.
Speaker 2 (10:07):
That would be a great thing to see.
Speaker 1 (10:08):
Honestly, Well, look on Taylor's face, it's like, uh, okay,
what else is going on this weekend? If you're up
in the North Bay or can get there. Savor Sonoma
is happening at Great and Resort, a casino. The all
star lineup of chefs personally assembled by Aron Sanchez from
the Food Network. You know him from Master chev Junior,
you know him from Chopped. He literally called his friends
(10:29):
he lives here, dude. I just found out he lives
in Walnut Creek.
Speaker 2 (10:32):
I know, not far.
Speaker 1 (10:33):
He came through when we hung out a couple of
days ago Life Dream by the way. We went down
to twenty five BLUs to also tape an episode of
the Chef's Day Off podcast that I do, and we
did a tequila tasting together. He's a mescal guy, but
he he he, but it indulged me. Yeah, nice dude.
So there's a really cool video. We did a ping
(10:53):
pong with him, which is a kind of a viral trend.
But we decided what the best Mexican food is. So
if you love Aron Sanchez, you go check that out
on the Marcus in the Morning Instagram. But this Savor
Sonoma going on this weekend at Greaton so the tonight's
deal is sold out. Tomorrow They're doing a live fire
event at the pool at Greyton with all these chefs
cooking at the same time, Sonoma wineries, local breweries, restaurants.
(11:16):
Tickets are still available. I've got a link in bio
on the Marcus in the Morning Instagram if you want
to check that out. Let's finish strong with producer Tale Oh.
Today is free Fridays. Shout out to all our people
at Muttville Senior Dog Rescue, Patty and the crew, and
they have an event coming up which I'm going to
tell you about next hour. And we are out of time.
But Taylor, what do you got for your daily poll?
Speaker 4 (11:36):
Yes, it is National kool Aid Day today, so we're
asking what is the go to kool Aid flavor? Is
it cherry, blue, raspberry, grape, or tropical punch?
Speaker 1 (11:46):
I think it's probably cherry or tropical punch for me.
Do you drink kool Aid?
Speaker 2 (11:51):
I've had it, yes, but not like recently so much sugar.
Speaker 1 (11:54):
I can't.
Speaker 4 (11:55):
Yeah, that's like one of those drinks that you have
during summer camp or something like that.
Speaker 2 (11:59):
You know.
Speaker 1 (12:00):
All right, so you can participate. Hit up the poll.
It's the start one on one three fm Instagram in
the stories. That's what we have. That's trending. It is
Marcus in the morning. We are doing second Date update.
It's on. So basically, you go on a first date.
If you get ghosted, you just call me and then
we'll try to we'll get a hold of your date together.
You can listen in. Usually it's a teachable moment of
some sort. I love getting second dates. That's my favorite.
(12:23):
Let's get Bryce on the phone. Bryce, are you there? Yeah,
what's up?
Speaker 5 (12:25):
Guys?
Speaker 1 (12:26):
What's up? Man? Let's talk about Naomi? Obviously I understand
you guys met online and then what did you do
for your date?
Speaker 5 (12:34):
We went out to dinner in Santa Rosa and I
thought it was going well. But now I'm ghosted and
I don't I don't know why. I don't know if
there's something else going on or now you're in your feelings.
I guess my whole thing was I thought we actually
had a connection. Sure, So whatever happens, I don't know.
(12:54):
I'm yeah, I guess I'm not too sure.
Speaker 1 (12:57):
Okay, go ahead and meet your phone. Here we go.
HELLOHI is this Naomi? Who's this Nailmi? It's Marcus calling
from Star one on one three. How are you okay?
Speaker 3 (13:18):
Hi?
Speaker 6 (13:19):
Hi is there a reason why I'm getting called.
Speaker 1 (13:22):
Do you listen to the show in the morning?
Speaker 6 (13:24):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (13:25):
Am I here for something?
Speaker 1 (13:27):
It's second date update time. Do you know what that is?
Speaker 6 (13:32):
I think, yeah, I know where this is going.
Speaker 1 (13:34):
Then should I bring your date on now or later?
Speaker 6 (13:40):
Now? Is fine? I guess?
Speaker 1 (13:42):
Okay, Bryce? Are you there? Yeah?
Speaker 5 (13:47):
Okay, Naomi. I thought we had a good date. I
just wanted to I don't know figure out what happened
maybe or something else was going on.
Speaker 1 (13:56):
Naomi? Did you go strough? You've just been busy my
guys trying to get a hold of you. He wants
to go on another date?
Speaker 6 (14:02):
Yeah. I thought it might have been like mutual, like,
you know, maybe we weren't really interested in each other
after our date?
Speaker 1 (14:10):
Did it get weird?
Speaker 2 (14:13):
Like?
Speaker 1 (14:13):
What's up?
Speaker 2 (14:13):
I just it was a great date.
Speaker 6 (14:16):
I think in like the later part of it where
I didn't like he wanted to take the steak home
and I wanted to take my steakhome, and I think
there was some sort of like disagreement there, and I
just felt like, oh, maybe we're not like on the
same page.
Speaker 1 (14:31):
I'm slightly confused. Can you elaborate or give me some
context or what what happened with the steak.
Speaker 6 (14:39):
We had a nice dinner and I had half of
my steak left, and I wanted to take that home,
and he took the bills, so he wanted to take
the steak home himself.
Speaker 1 (14:49):
I'm still confused.
Speaker 2 (14:50):
Me my meal.
Speaker 1 (14:52):
Let's run it back for a second. So dinner's over. Yeah,
and then you had left over food and then on
my plate, okay, and then and then somebody you got boxes,
and then he wanted to take his leftovers, and you
were leftovers. Is that what you're telling me?
Speaker 6 (15:09):
Exactly? Like he was trying to just take my dish
home as well, and.
Speaker 5 (15:14):
I wanted to take my Well, first of all, I
paid for dinner, and by the way, it was like
over two hundred dollars. The whole thing was, it's just like,
you know, if you were done eating, I was just
going to take the rest of the steak home.
Speaker 1 (15:27):
I didn't think it was I paid for it.
Speaker 6 (15:30):
I mean, I felt like it was still my steak
because I wanted to still continue eating it just later
in the night, you know, just was I just got
full a little early, that's all.
Speaker 5 (15:40):
See, Like the thing is, it's more of a I'm
taking you out for like an experience with me so
we can get to know each other. The food and
stuff is just like part of it. But I did
it was very expensive, and like the whole thing is
you were done eating. I was just going to take
the rest that I bought.
Speaker 1 (15:54):
I don't get it so at some point it becomes
yours or what right?
Speaker 5 (15:59):
I mean, the thing is, it's whatever, this is how
my family has always done it.
Speaker 1 (16:04):
I didn't think i'd run into this issue.
Speaker 5 (16:05):
Typically, I haven't even really had a person who didn't
finish her meal, and I didn't think it was that
big of a deal because she actually didn't seem like
you were even going to eat it. Again, I don't know.
I wasn't trying to make it this big thing, but
I just thought you wouldn't care. You ate, We got
to have quality time, we got to kind of connect,
and we were talking for like thirty minutes after this.
That's why I just thought this would not be the
(16:27):
big reason that you're making it out to be.
Speaker 1 (16:30):
Is this go ahead? Go ahead?
Speaker 6 (16:33):
Well, I ended up taking it home because we had
this like little argument disagreement where you know, you took
me out on a day and I would like to
continue eating my leftovers, So I would like to take
this home.
Speaker 1 (16:46):
So Bryce, this is a thing in your family if
if somebody if you pay, then you get what first
DIBs on leftovers or what.
Speaker 5 (16:55):
Yeah, if you pay, it's you know, you're buying the meal.
And the idea is you can you know, we're out
together to share an experience. I'm not. The idea is
you're not just trying to buy someone food to eat later.
Speaker 1 (17:07):
Like it's toward the.
Speaker 5 (17:08):
Moment, right, it's the whole experience, you know, like whatever
happens after, like you know what if we never see
each other again or something. It's just like I'm not
just it's not just like a charity thing. Like, look,
it wasn't that big of a deal. I mean, you
got to keep the steak, so you know you I
assume you ended up eating it.
Speaker 6 (17:28):
Yeah, thanks, I ate it.
Speaker 2 (17:29):
Three days ago.
Speaker 1 (17:30):
Okay, I feel weird. Does anybody want a second date
at this point?
Speaker 2 (17:35):
Naomi, I'm good, I'm all right, all.
Speaker 1 (17:38):
Right, hang on you two. That has to be the
most bizarre one of the year. Producer Taylor just walked in.
You date. What's one of the main reasons you go
on dates.
Speaker 2 (17:46):
Oh for the free food for sure.
Speaker 1 (17:49):
Of course you should see her fridge.
Speaker 2 (17:52):
Yeah, it's just leftovers.
Speaker 1 (17:53):
This is ridiculous, all right. Anyway, second date updates Marcus
in the morning, it's seven to twenty. Taylor's here is Well,
good morning. I just realized how poorly timed this discussion is.
But I like it. Do these things after work to
make the most of your weeknights. I mean, it's fished Friday. Yeah,
you should probably have shelved this until next week, but
(18:13):
here we are.
Speaker 2 (18:14):
Here we are.
Speaker 1 (18:15):
Let's call it being preemptive. So things you can do
to make the most of your weeknights. Browse a bookstore,
sit outside and enjoy the fresh air. Take a distraction
free walk. Would you be capable of just taking a walk?
No phone, no headphones, no music for the win?
Speaker 2 (18:34):
Uh?
Speaker 4 (18:34):
Like, if I had to, yeah, I'd be capable, But
I always like listening to music or like talking to
someone on the phone.
Speaker 1 (18:41):
Right, but distraction free, free with your own thoughts.
Speaker 2 (18:46):
I don't know. I have a hard time sitting with
my thoughts for real.
Speaker 1 (18:49):
Okay, here's one that low key stresses me out. Participate
in a rex sports league. Respect But those of us
that are over forty five, like I tore my acl.
Reading that sentence, I.
Speaker 2 (19:01):
Heard pickleball is really big in your community.
Speaker 1 (19:04):
Pickleball stresses me out, though, because I have so many friends.
Wale coworker Todd, how old is he? Fifty five? Fifty six?
Like literally I think he tore his acl playing pickleball.
You know, I.
Speaker 4 (19:16):
Actually I'd take that back because my dad also he
snapped his achilles playing pickleball.
Speaker 1 (19:21):
So, like, the very mention of pickleball stresses me out. Yeah,
my friend Michelle tweaked her knee. That's the knee tweaking
at our age. And I sound like a hundred right now,
but like, once you hit about forty five, it's real.
You have to be careful. We are not. Here's what
I found out from when I tore my shoulder. The
doctor literally says, at some point, our bodies just wear out.
(19:41):
You didn't do anything wrong. Yeah, like our coworker Todd,
I was just talking about, he was basically a professional athlete.
Gro he probably still thinks he is, you know what
I mean? Yeah, Okay, let me move on that. Really
that was a lot of anxiety follow a guided meditation.
There is something wrong with following a meditation that you're
watching on you Tube. Though I have inherent problems with that.
(20:02):
Why because screen time it's basically screens. I mean, I.
Speaker 4 (20:06):
Guess, But if you're not looking at it, you know
what I mean, does it count?
Speaker 1 (20:10):
I like this a lot. Again, we're talking about things
you can do after work to make the most of
your weeknights. Make a list of goals, make a list
of to do for the next day. Make pack your
lunch anytime I get my things together, so the first
thing in the morning, when I'm not awake, I could
just go boo boo boom and get in the car.
Speaker 4 (20:26):
I always feel like such an accomplished adult when I
like use my free time after work correctly by like
doing something like that, you know, pre you packing lunch.
Speaker 1 (20:35):
So if that's correct, what is incorrect?
Speaker 4 (20:37):
Doom scrolling and watching the whole Twilight saga for the
eighty seventh time.
Speaker 2 (20:43):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (20:45):
I love lists crossing off lists so much that if
I accomplish a task that is not on my list,
I will literally write it down just to cross it off.
Speaker 4 (20:53):
I also end that way, Yeah, Or I'll go back
on lists from a while ago and cross things out
that I did, so I feel good.
Speaker 1 (21:00):
I don't feel like such a freak anymore. Right, all right,
if you want to add to the list, you can.
We should have this all stacked and ready to go
for next week again. Things to do after work to
make the most of your weeknights to make you feel
accomplished or lovely, or get you back on track. The
talkback is open. It's a little red microphone. If you're
streaming Star one, one three right now in the free
iHeart radio app set that preset leave us a message
(21:20):
for it's time for good news. This story is wild.
