Good intentions don't always equal good results. We're sharing the times trying to do something nice completely backfired, plus the conversation parents know they need to have but would rather avoid. And finally, science may have given us the excuse we've been waiting for to sleep in this weekend.

Speaker 1 (00:00):
Star 101.3. It's Marcus in the morning, 5.56. Good morning.
Producer Taylor is here as well.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
Good morning. Hey, girl. Hey.

Speaker 1 (00:06):
We both got sleep last night, although I fought it.
I fought it like a toddler. It was weird. Why? Because,
you know, I have my night routine. And so I
was sitting there watching my shows. And I don't even
watch it. This is how weird it is. I don't
even watch TV anymore. I'm watching at the dining table
on my laptop. Somehow that's my new comfort spot.

Speaker 3 (00:25):
Been there.

Speaker 1 (00:26):
I have this massive 65-inch television that just goes unwatched. Anyway,
I find myself halfway through a movie, and I'm literally
falling asleep in the chair, nodding off, nodding off. It's 8.30.
I should really go to bed. Didn't get a nap.
Fighting it. Snow. I don't want to go to bed.

(00:46):
So stupid. Why? I don't know. But I finally got
up and texted you and said, go to bed.

Speaker 3 (00:51):
I know.

Speaker 4 (00:52):
That's so funny because when you texted me, I was
also like kind of doing that same thing. I was
on the couch. I was watching Vanderpump Rules. I was like,
I should probably go to bed.

Speaker 1 (01:01):
The two hardest things I do with my day are
getting out of bed and getting back into bed. It's
so stupid.

Speaker 3 (01:06):
It's true.

Speaker 1 (01:06):
Just go to sleep. Why can't I be like people
my age where they're just like, dude, I never leave
the house, man. I never get out of bed, man.
Bed rotting for like five hours, naps.

Speaker 3 (01:16):
That's not you.

Speaker 1 (01:18):
Not at all. Anyways, good morning. And I just want
to say thank you for having us on this morning.
Check in. Let us know how your week is going
thus far. I know it's only Tuesday, isn't it?

Speaker 3 (01:28):
Tuesday, isn't it?

Speaker 1 (01:30):
What is the talk that parents dread more than the
birds and the bees talk or talking about drugs with
their kids?

Speaker 3 (01:37):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (01:38):
Finances. Oh. Money.

Speaker 3 (01:42):
They're like, you're off the payroll.

Speaker 1 (01:43):
Third of the... No, not even that. That's not the conversation. Oh.
That's hilarious. That's the first thing you think of. I'm
dreading telling you I'm not paying for everything anymore. You
think your parents are dreading that talk? Well, you'll never
have it, so it doesn't matter.

Speaker 3 (01:57):
Yeah, well....

Speaker 1 (02:01):
Literally, the sound Taylor makes when she has no comment. Well...
A third of the people surveyed admit they avoid talking
about money with their kids because their own financial situation
and experience with money or money habits aren't great. And
to which I would say, like, I wasn't taught a

(02:21):
bunch of stuff. I know the mistakes that I've made
over the years. I don't pass them on to my daughter.
It's more like, I'm going to tell you what daddy's done.
Here's what you should do.

Speaker 3 (02:33):
Do as I say, not as I do.

Speaker 1 (02:35):
Yeah, that. Yeah. I'll tell you what, dude, and I've
said this a thousand times. If I knew then what
I know now, like if I was your age with
the knowledge that I have about money today, I'd be
sitting on $ 3 million right now.

Speaker 3 (02:49):
I feel like a lot of people could say that.

Speaker 1 (02:51):
No, it's the truth. It doesn't take that much. I
learned about compound interest and just dropping in a little
bit of money every month into some really easy investments
by the time you reach my age, which is to
say 53%. You'd be rolling on dubs, B.

Speaker 3 (03:08):
All I've heard is that you really need to have
a good credit score.

Speaker 1 (03:11):
Wow, that's a piece. That's super important. That's a piece.
If you want to get a car or you want
to get a house or whatever, yeah, having a good credit.
You want to keep your annual percentage rate on whatever
loans you get down. We're going down a rabbit hole
that I didn't really want to go down, but I
will say I started my daughter investing when she was
nine and she's 11 now and her stuff's off the charts.

(03:32):
For an 11-year-old, all that grandma money, Grandpa money? Grandparent money?

Speaker 5 (03:38):
Smart.

Speaker 1 (03:38):
I wish. I wish. Meanwhile, I'm like raw dog in
my 401k pulling money out all the time.

Speaker 3 (03:45):
You're wild.

Speaker 1 (03:47):
So stupid.

Speaker 5 (03:50):
The other thing that this survey pointed out was that 73%
of the kids that were pulled believe the way to
financial freedom is to become an influencer.

Speaker 3 (04:01):
I've heard that.

Speaker 1 (04:02):
78% want to become content creators. But only 3% say
they even trust online influencers to tell them about money.
Does that resonate? So they want to be somebody that
they don't trust?

Speaker 3 (04:17):
I mean, I guess.

Speaker 4 (04:18):
I think also you're asking young kids. They don't really
know what they want.

Speaker 1 (04:22):
True. So, a suggestion, just because I did this. There's
this book, and it sounds corny as heck.

Speaker 3 (04:30):
Is this the book you gave me?

Speaker 1 (04:31):
Yes, that you haven't read yet. Read the book. Okay.
It's literally called I Will Teach You to Be Rich.
Super corny, super cheeseball title, but it outlines everything you
need to know about how to get your finances established.
There's nothing. Why am I? This sounds like an infomercial.
Now it's not. I read this book and it just

(04:53):
blew my head off. Anyway, sorry.

Speaker 3 (04:55):
No, it's fine.

Speaker 1 (04:57):
Taylor's eyes are glossing over.

Speaker 4 (04:58):
I know.

Speaker 3 (04:59):
I'm about to fall asleep.

Speaker 5 (05:00):
All right.

Speaker 1 (05:00):
We'll move on. I just thought that was interesting. The
talk parents dread more than the birds and the bees
talk or drugs talk is talking about money with their kids.
There you go. Best news ever. Sleeping in on the
weekends might actually be good for you.

Speaker 4 (05:15):
I knew it.

Speaker 3 (05:16):
I knew it.

Speaker 1 (05:17):
You've heard before. They're like, oh, make sure you keep
your internal clock the same. How many times have we
said on the show that we've read scientifically you should
wake up every single day at the same time? And
how much that hurts my soul.

Speaker 3 (05:29):
I will never do it, though. I won't.

Speaker 1 (05:31):
Because what... Okay, if you're running on time, what time
are you waking up in the morning?

Speaker 3 (05:37):
Like here to come here?

Speaker 1 (05:38):
Yeah, during the week.

Speaker 3 (05:39):
Like 4 to 4.20, somewhere in there.

Speaker 1 (05:42):
4.10, a little more. For me, it's like 3.45 to
4 a.m., right? I'm not doing that on a Saturday.
I'm just not.

Speaker 3 (05:51):
Heck no, techno. I'm not waking up that early.

Speaker 1 (05:53):
Dude, it's so intense at my house. I don't even
set an alarm.

Speaker 3 (05:58):
I don't. I don't either. Unless I have something to do,
I'm sleeping in.

Speaker 1 (06:01):
I'm fitting a wake up when I wake up.

Speaker 3 (06:03):
I got the eye mask on. I don't want to
see daylight.

Speaker 1 (06:07):
So it says here that because not getting enough sleep
is so bad for your health, like it actually strains
your body on so many different levels, catching up is
good for you. They analyzed the sleep of 41,000 people,
found those who slept in on the weekends were up
to 10% less likely to have high blood pressure. There

(06:30):
you go. But this is not creative license to bed
rot all day. There's actually a sweet spot for it.
90 minutes.

Speaker 3 (06:39):
90 minutes of what?

Speaker 1 (06:41):
That's your, of sleeping. Well, listen, you could listen. I
guess you could, you could lay in bed all day
as long as you're awake. I mean like extra sleep.
So if you normally get up at four 20, five 26, 6am,
6am on Saturdays, does that work for you?

Speaker 4 (06:58):
That is actually usually when I wake up on a Saturday, honestly.

Speaker 2 (07:02):
Right.

Speaker 1 (07:02):
And then, For me, it's not even about waking up.
It's about getting out of bed. That's the hard part.

Speaker 3 (07:06):
Yeah, I do love to lay in bed.

Speaker 1 (07:08):
I'm typically up by 7, 730 on the weekends, but
I'm not out of bed until 930.

Speaker 4 (07:14):
Sometimes I'll move just from the bed to the couch.
That's about as much movement.

Speaker 1 (07:20):
We call that exercise.

Speaker 3 (07:21):
Yeah, right?

Speaker 1 (07:23):
At least I move. I feel better about myself. So
that's the takeaway. Sleeping in on the weekends might actually
be good for you. And this is a massive study,
almost 50,000 people. So I'm taking it. It's gospel. I'll
practice it this weekend, 631. Now here's what's.

Speaker 4 (07:38):
Trending in the Bay Area and beyond.

Speaker 1 (07:43):
Anything sound weird to you right now? What do you mean?
My headphones just gave out. No, they did not. In
real time.

Speaker 3 (07:51):
Actually?

Speaker 1 (07:52):
I can only hear the right channel. This is so nerdy.

Speaker 2 (07:55):
Oh, wow.

Speaker 1 (07:56):
I can't hear you. I can't even hear me talking.

Speaker 3 (07:59):
No?

Speaker 1 (08:01):
I feel like I'm doing the show underwater.

Speaker 3 (08:03):
This is wild. Do you want to use my headphones?

Speaker 1 (08:06):
I don't know yet.

Speaker 3 (08:07):
I have another pair.

Speaker 1 (08:08):
Okay.

Speaker 3 (08:09):
Here.

Speaker 1 (08:10):
For next hour, because we can't do this right now
in real time. Let me get through the trends as
quick as I can. All right. Is anything going to
work this morning? Let's see. Olivia Rodrigo was reflecting on
her Daisy Chain Fields Festival. She called it the greatest
joy of her career. Sold out women led festival drew

(08:31):
about 45,000 fans. Chapel Roan was there. Dochi was there.
Alanis Morissette came out on stage. Sarah McLachlan. It was
so good. It was like generational.

Speaker 3 (08:39):
Yeah, it really was.

Speaker 1 (08:41):
All in all, raised about $ 20 million for organizations supporting
women and girls. I am here for it. I love that.
Miley Cyrus has entered her new era. She simply wants
to be called Miley. I know she has so many songs.
That one's my favorite.

Speaker 3 (08:59):
This one is a good one.

Speaker 1 (09:00):
What's it like knowing there's literally no one else on
earth named Miley, maybe? That's a large statement. But my
point is to be an icon at such a young age.

Speaker 4 (09:13):
Well, there's no one famous with that name, you know,
especially with her type of reach.

Speaker 1 (09:18):
Correct.

Speaker 3 (09:19):
The Cyrus was a little iconic.

Speaker 1 (09:21):
She's changed her social handle to just at Miley and
posted a mysterious red photo captioned Miley with red and
black billboards teasing something coming soon. There is music coming out. Oh, absolutely.
It's just happening. We'll keep you posted on that. Ariana
Grande says she suffered a deep cut on her foot,
but it won't stop her from finishing her tour. She
jokes she might be a few inches shorter. Is that

(09:42):
even possible? She says she has to ditch the heels
for her final London show.

Speaker 3 (09:46):
Oh, no.

Speaker 1 (09:47):
So how tall is she? Like IRL?

Speaker 3 (09:50):
I think the same height as me.

Speaker 1 (09:51):
OK, so like four, three.

Speaker 3 (09:53):
Stop like five, one, five, two.

Speaker 1 (09:56):
Well, I noticed just about an hour ago, Taylor came
over to help me with my computer. I was sitting down,
she was standing up, and we were the same height.

Speaker 3 (10:03):
I know.

Speaker 1 (10:06):
Kelly Clarkson's show wrapped up, officially ended. She closed out
her series with performers, brought out her kids, said she
was stepping away to spend more time with them. Lionel
Messi has also just retired from international soccer at the
age of 39. leaving Argentina as the all-time leader in
goals and appearances in the World Cup championship and two
Copa America titles. He will continue playing for Inter Miami, however.

(10:31):
Tim Cook is stepping down as Apple CEO after 15 years.
During his tenure, Apple's annual revenue actually quadrupled. So there
you go. And then they just closed out the Tupac case,
finding the defendant Dwayne Davis guilty. Guilty of first degree
murder in this 1996 killing. Crazy to me that Tupac

(10:53):
was only 25. I remember the day it happened. I
was on the radio and we were all just stunned.
It was so long ago.

Speaker 2 (11:01):
I know.

Speaker 3 (11:01):
I'm older than him.

Speaker 1 (11:02):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (11:04):
Isn't that crazy?

Speaker 1 (11:04):
You made it.

Speaker 6 (11:05):
I did.

Speaker 1 (11:05):
There it is. Let's wrap out strong with Producer Taylor's
Daily Poll. What do you have?

Speaker 4 (11:09):
It is National Chess Day today. So we're asking, which
chess piece are you? Are you the queen, the king,
the knight, or are you the pawn just surviving?

Speaker 1 (11:19):
Definitely the queen.

Speaker 3 (11:20):
No, I'm the queen. So I don't know. I don't
know who you are.

Speaker 1 (11:25):
I have so many chess pictures. I got to put
a little carousel together from my days.

Speaker 3 (11:31):
Yeah, post the chocolate chess.

Speaker 1 (11:33):
I will. Okay, so that's up on the Star 101.3
FM Instagram. In the stories, you can participate. It is
Marcus in the Morning, and this is Second Date Update.
If you're new to the show, you just started listening, basically...
If you go on a first date and you get ghosted,
then you just call me. And then you and I
will call your date together. It'll be slightly passive-aggressive, only
because you will be on mute. So let's say good

(11:55):
morning to Ben. Ben, hello.

Speaker 4 (11:57):
Hey, how are you?

Speaker 1 (11:58):
Good, man. You ready to be muted out? Ready to
find out what happened, I guess. Yeah, you and me both.
Let's talk about Ashley. So what did you guys do
for your date?

Speaker 7 (12:05):
So we went to the city for a movie.

Speaker 5 (12:07):
Okay.

Speaker 1 (12:08):
And I suggested a horror movie. Okay.

Speaker 2 (12:12):
I don't know. I.

Speaker 7 (12:14):
Afterwards, I thought we had a good time, but she
just kind of stopped responding to my calls after the
date or any sort of communication.

Speaker 1 (12:22):
She just didn't reach back out. That's it? She just disappeared?

Speaker 2 (12:27):
Yeah, I don't know.

Speaker 7 (12:28):
Things seem to be going okay, but yeah, something about
the movie.

Speaker 1 (12:32):
I mean, she didn't seem like she was opposed.

Speaker 6 (12:34):
To horror movies.

Speaker 1 (12:34):
It's just after the date, she just kind of dropped
off the face of the earth. Let's give her a shout.
Go ahead and mute your phone, bud, okay? Okay. Here
we go. This is Ashley. Hey, Ashley. This is Marcus
calling from Star 101.3. How are you?

Speaker 2 (12:55):
You said Star 101.3?

Speaker 7 (12:57):
Yes.

Speaker 1 (12:58):
I don't suppose you listen to our morning show, do you?

Speaker 2 (13:02):
Not really like in the morning.

Speaker 1 (13:03):
Okay. It's literally Marcus in the morning. I wonder if
you might have a second to be on the air. Okay.
Let me explain. Yeah. So we do a dating segment.
It's called Second Date Update.

Speaker 2 (13:17):
And.

Speaker 1 (13:19):
Basically, if you go on a first date and somebody
gets ghosted, I call them and try to figure out
what went sideways, kind of as a teachable moment, but
trying to get maybe a second date brokered. So I
wanted to ask you about a specific date you've been
on recently with a guy named Ben. Oh my gosh.
I literally thought I won something for a second.

Speaker 2 (13:39):
Sorry.

Speaker 1 (13:40):
What a tremendous letdown.

Speaker 2 (13:44):
Yes, I went on a date with Ben in the
city recently.

Speaker 1 (13:47):
Did you ghost?

Speaker 2 (13:48):
I mean, I haven't talked to him since then.

Speaker 1 (13:51):
No, I haven't. Where did he screw up? Or what happened?
I heard, like, to your point, it was just a movie, right? Yes.

Speaker 2 (13:58):
I mean, it was a horror movie, so that's interesting
for a date, but whatever.

Speaker 1 (14:03):
Do you do horror movies? Or are you like me,
where you're like, no. He claims like you were cool
with it. Yeah, I do.

Speaker 2 (14:10):
I mean, I like thrillers, but yeah, I mean, it's fine.
It really wasn't the movie.

Speaker 1 (14:15):
Okay. What happened?

Speaker 2 (14:17):
So the movie was good, super good, highly recommend. But
like going with Ben to the movie, not good.

Speaker 5 (14:23):
So he was basically watching me instead of the screen,
which is very, very awkward.

Speaker 2 (14:31):
Like every scary scene, he was staring at me.

Speaker 1 (14:35):
Why?

Speaker 2 (14:35):
Honestly, I had to ask him.

Speaker 1 (14:37):
Because I'm like, why do you keep looking at me?

Speaker 2 (14:40):
But I said it like totally different. But so then
he was like, I intentionally picked out the movie because
I wanted to see how, like how I would react.

Speaker 1 (14:48):
To what?

Speaker 2 (14:48):
I guess my fear response is what he said.

Speaker 1 (14:55):
Are you serious? I'm sorry, your fear response?

Speaker 2 (14:59):
Well, okay, so he said that you can learn a
lot about people by how they respond to fear.

Speaker 1 (15:05):
Okay. Hang on for one sec. Now I have questions.
Ben is actually listening right now. He's been with us
the whole time.

Speaker 2 (15:16):
I apologize.

Speaker 1 (15:16):
I apologize. I'd love to bring him on to discuss
because now I understand why you might have ghosted. Ben,
are you there? Yeah. What is this? Like, what are
you doing?

Speaker 7 (15:29):
Well, I mean, look, it's a legitimate thing. It's this
thing I've developed. It's a compatibility thing.

Speaker 1 (15:37):
When you go to.

Speaker 7 (15:38):
Horror movies, they elicit this really visceral response, right?

Speaker 2 (15:41):
They're like.

Speaker 7 (15:42):
some of the only movies that do that and some
people scream some people laugh because there's or you know
to ease the tension or whatever and some grab their
date you know.

Speaker 2 (15:53):
Okay ben ben so what did i do you uh
covered your eyes because it was a horror movie oh.

Speaker 1 (16:01):
My god okay may i ask was there something you
were hoping she would do grab my arm Okay.

Speaker 3 (16:10):
Oh, my God.

Speaker 2 (16:11):
This is just a plan to get me to touch you, Ben? No.

Speaker 7 (16:15):
I mean, when you say it like that, you know.

Speaker 2 (16:20):
How else, like, how else could I say it, seriously?

Speaker 7 (16:23):
I mean, look, you're not the first woman I've taken
to a horror movie to see if this happens.

Speaker 1 (16:28):
This is a recurring thing?

Speaker 2 (16:30):
It's interesting.

Speaker 7 (16:31):
I mean, you know, it's people being honest as opposed
to all this. built up stuff that people present when
they're on date.

Speaker 2 (16:39):
You know, it's honest. Ben, how is your research going?
Because this is gross.

Speaker 1 (16:44):
That's what I wanted to know. How is it going, Ben?
Not particularly great, but you know. Hey, you guys, hang on.
Hang on one sec. Hang on. Ashley? Yes? What do
you want me to do with this guy? I guess... No, I....

Speaker 6 (17:04):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (17:04):
It's weird that he takes multiple girls to do this,
but I'm never going to talk to him again.

Speaker 1 (17:09):
Okay, very good. I'll take care of it. You have
the best day. Star 1013, I am further convinced that
the road to hell is paved with good intentions.

Speaker 6 (17:17):
Okay.

Speaker 1 (17:17):
Because I am getting hammered because of something nice that
I tried to do for you. What?

Speaker 3 (17:24):
What do you mean?

Speaker 1 (17:25):
Do you remember that day we were, was I giving
you a ride home? This is directly after your surgery.
And you were in a lot of pain and you
were talking about how your back was getting jacked up
because you were having to sleep in it on the
couch or something.

Speaker 3 (17:42):
I think I know where this is going.

Speaker 1 (17:44):
And so I started calling around to chiropractors in Taylor's
neighborhood to be a good friend. Well, unbeknownst to me,
once you call them, they capture your phone number. And
then they put you into a text database. Oh, OK.

Speaker 3 (17:59):
I like this.

Speaker 1 (17:59):
And then they start reaching out intermittently, wondering when you
want to go ahead and make your appointment.

Speaker 4 (18:04):
OK, so duly noted from here on out, I'm using
your phone number for all.

Speaker 3 (18:08):
These types of things.

Speaker 1 (18:11):
Because I am getting hammered right now. by no less
than three separate chiropractic offices here in San Francisco. I'm
not going to name them because they're just doing their jobs.
They were all very sweet and very nice on the phone.
But in my wildest dreams, I did not think of
the scenario where they would actually capture my phone number
and then just start kind of low-key bombarding me with, hey,

(18:33):
so when are you coming in?

Speaker 3 (18:34):
I love that.

Speaker 1 (18:35):
Then I felt like your agent because there was one
day a couple of days ago where not only did
I get text bombed, But the lady called me on
the phone wondering when I was coming in.

Speaker 3 (18:45):
Oh, wow.

Speaker 1 (18:46):
And I said the words, let me check with my client.

Speaker 3 (18:50):
I love that. I love that.

Speaker 1 (18:53):
So last Thursday. Hi, this is your wellness coordinator with
the blank, blank, blank chiropractic in San Francisco. Thank you
for taking my call. Here is a link to schedule
with our calendar at your earliest convenience. Link to calendar. Yesterday. Hey,
this is joint chiropractic checking in. Following up. Did you
get my message above? Cheers. It's going to keep coming.

Speaker 2 (19:16):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (19:17):
You're welcome.

Speaker 3 (19:18):
Well, okay. You said you'll check with your client. You
haven't said anything to me.

Speaker 1 (19:23):
So when do you want to make your appointment, ma'am?

Speaker 3 (19:26):
I'm feeling closer and closer to ready every day.

Speaker 1 (19:29):
Can you fit me in? I know you're very busy.
It's very important. Like I said, God bless them. They're
just doing their job. I guess food for thought. Keep
in mind, it's not even just about I'm texting you
and opting in. If you call a business, they could
very well capture your phone number. Oh, yeah. FYI.

Speaker 3 (19:47):
This is known.

Speaker 1 (19:48):
Is it, though?

Speaker 2 (19:49):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (19:50):
Am I unking out right now?

Speaker 3 (19:51):
A little bit.

Speaker 1 (19:52):
Okay.

Speaker 3 (19:53):
It's like when you answer a telemarketer.

Speaker 1 (19:55):
Uh-huh.

Speaker 3 (19:55):
Like, now you're going to get calls forever.

Speaker 1 (19:59):
This just hurts my heart. Anyway, I digress. Good morning.

Speaker 7 (20:02):
Here we go.

Speaker 1 (20:03):
It's time for good news, Bay Area. A little situation.
at the Pokemon World Championships over the weekend has turned
into national news and now good news. There was a
Pokemon fan who got scammed out of his most prized card.
This is a kid who was here in San Francisco

(20:23):
over the weekend, apparently struck a deal with a card
vendor up on the second floor of the Moscone Center,
lost his prized card. This is according to his dad
who went online and posted the whole story on Twitter.
but he's getting an outpouring of support from the collecting community.
Apparently the young man had spent years saving and trading
to obtain a valuable Rayquaza card. I say that like

(20:47):
I know what I'm talking about, but I don't. Before
an adult allegedly took advantage of him during a trade.
Dad shared the story online. Collectors began offering replacement cards, packs,
other gifts. There is a popular Pokemon YouTuber by the
name of Deep Pocket Monster who was among those who
reached out and offered to help. The other part of

(21:08):
the good news, the card in question has since been returned.
And the trader, the guy who did the trade, disputed
the father's account of what happened. And dad has now
thanked everyone. So this is all in all a thousand
percent good news. Happy ending. My man gets his card
back and all is right with the world because people

(21:29):
are awesome. It is Marcus in the Morning. It is
time to play the Bay's favorite trivia game. It's called
What You Know About Matt. Brought to you by Cameras
Pub in Half Moon Bay. Come through for the weekend.
Huge hotel right next door. RV hookups. Maybe I'll see
you there. Let's say good morning to our contestants. We
go first out to the official, unofficial city of the
Marcus in the Morning show. Martinez, say hi to Carrie.
Good morning, Carrie.

Speaker 2 (21:50):
Good morning, Marcus and Taylor. How are you guys doing? Good.

Speaker 1 (21:53):
How are you? What's going on this morning? Good.

Speaker 2 (21:54):
I'm actually driving to your neck of the woods. I'm
heading into Half Moon Bay for work.

Speaker 1 (21:58):
Oh, yeah? What do you do for work?

Speaker 2 (21:59):
I support veterinary hospitals, and I'm heading to visit one
down there. Oh, adorable. It's not like I commute there
every day. That'd be a really long commute.

Speaker 6 (22:07):
That'd be brutal.

Speaker 2 (22:08):
But today, that's where I'll be. Beautiful town, though.

Speaker 1 (22:11):
For sure. Enjoy your time. Thanks for being on. Let's
take it out to Oakland. Say hi to Brendan. Good morning.

Speaker 2 (22:16):
Good morning, Marcus and Taylor.

Speaker 1 (22:18):
How are we? So far, so good. How are you,
my man? What do you got going on this morning?

Speaker 6 (22:22):
We are stuck in 580 on our way to school drop-off.

Speaker 1 (22:26):
I love it. Give me some names. Who's in the car?

Speaker 2 (22:27):
We got Roslyn, we have Hudson, and we have Allie.

Speaker 1 (22:31):
Morning, y'all. Thank you for being here. Appreciate it. Let's
go ahead and get started, you guys. I'm going to
ask you each five questions. You'll have 50 seconds. You
yell out pass. If you don't know an answer, we'll
come back to it if there's time. We good? Got it.

Speaker 2 (22:44):
Yeah, let's do it.

Speaker 1 (22:45):
Brandon and the kids go on hold in Oakland. And
we start with Carrie and Martinez. All right, Carrie.

Speaker 6 (22:50):
All right.

Speaker 1 (22:51):
Question number one. What is Spider-Man's real name?

Speaker 2 (22:56):
Peter Parker.

Speaker 1 (22:57):
True or false, Dalmatians are born with spots.

Speaker 2 (23:03):
That is true.

Speaker 1 (23:04):
What is another term for a snow house or a
snow hut?

Speaker 7 (23:09):
Igloo.

Speaker 1 (23:10):
What was the name of the spacecraft that successfully landed
on Mars in 2012? Oh, boy. What state can the
Mount Rushmore National Memorial be found in? One of the Dakotas,
I think.

Speaker 2 (23:24):
I'm going to go with San Francisco. Okay, South. I'm
going to go South Dakota.

Speaker 1 (23:29):
Okay, and what was the name of the spacecraft that
successfully landed on Mars in 2012? We're out of time.
Hang on the line for me. Don't move. All right,
Carrie goes on holding Martinez. We pick up Brendan in Oakland.

Speaker 2 (23:46):
Ready.

Speaker 3 (23:47):
Question number one. What is Spider-Man's real name?

Speaker 6 (23:53):
Peter Parker.

Speaker 3 (23:54):
True or false, Dalmatians are born with spots.

Speaker 6 (23:59):
False.

Speaker 3 (24:00):
What is another term for a snow house or a
snow hut?

Speaker 1 (24:06):
Igloo.

Speaker 3 (24:07):
What was the name of the spacecraft that successfully landed
on Mars in 2012? Pass.

Speaker 4 (24:17):
What state can the Mount Rushmore National Memorial be found?

Speaker 3 (24:24):
Go back to the one you passed on. What was
the name of the spacecraft that successfully landed on Mars
in 2012?

Speaker 2 (24:30):
Uh....

Speaker 1 (24:42):
All right, Carrie comes back in Martinez. We'll see how
she did against Brendan in Oakland. Question number one. What
is Spider-Man's real name?

Speaker 3 (24:49):
Both of you knew that that was Peter Parker.

Speaker 1 (24:51):
Question two. True or false? Dalmatians are born with spots.

Speaker 3 (24:55):
Carrie said true. Brendan said false. The answer we were
looking for was false.

Speaker 4 (25:00):
Dalmatian puppies are born completely white and do not have
their spots until.

Speaker 3 (25:04):
Their fur at birth.

Speaker 1 (25:05):
I was today years old, you guys.

Speaker 4 (25:06):
I know.

Speaker 3 (25:07):
I didn't know that either.

Speaker 1 (25:07):
Third question. What is a.

Speaker 3 (25:12):
Are you good, dude? I got thrown up.

Speaker 1 (25:15):
Carrie, didn't you say you worked for a veterinarian?

Speaker 2 (25:18):
I was hoping you were going to skip past that part.

Speaker 1 (25:21):
Please forget. Derailed the entire show. Next question. What is
another term for a snow house or snow hut?

Speaker 3 (25:27):
Both of you said igloo, and that was correct.

Speaker 1 (25:30):
What was the name of the spacecraft that successfully landed
on Mars in 2012?

Speaker 4 (25:33):
That was the Curiosity rover, better known as the Mars rover.

Speaker 1 (25:39):
And finally, what state can the Mount Rushmore National Memorial
be founded?

Speaker 4 (25:43):
Both of you said South Dakota, and that was correct,
bringing our final score four to three.

Speaker 3 (25:48):
Brandon's our winner.

Speaker 1 (25:49):
Brandon, I don't know who gets the $ 100 David Buster's
gift card, but you win.

Speaker 2 (25:53):
Thank you so much.

Speaker 1 (25:54):
Great job.

Speaker 5 (25:55):
Nice playing.

Speaker 1 (25:56):
Carrie, we're going to get you a custom bedazzled star
sticker courtesy of my daughter and this summer project. They're beautiful.
You can stick it wherever you like, okay?

Speaker 2 (26:05):
I would love to see that. Thank you so much
to you and your daughter.

Speaker 1 (26:07):
What are you talking about?

Speaker 3 (26:09):
Play with us again weekday mornings at 8.05 a.m.

Speaker 1 (26:12):

Speaker 1 (26:17):
Star 101.3. It's Marcus in the morning, 924. Producer Taylor
is here. Week four of Get to Know Your Coworkers.
We welcome Thomas to the studio.

Speaker 3 (26:25):
Welcome, Thomas.

Speaker 1 (26:26):
From our sales department. I have realized now that I'm
cruising your LinkedIn, we are in the presence of a
Shaolin monk as we speak.

Speaker 3 (26:32):
What is that?

Speaker 1 (26:33):
Thomas has a bachelor's degree in philosophy and psychology.

Speaker 2 (26:36):
Ooh. That's right.

Speaker 3 (26:37):
That's right.

Speaker 1 (26:38):
Now, does this assist you in your sales goals? Absolutely.

Speaker 6 (26:41):
I love connecting with people. Just trying to figure out
how to get from point A to point B.

Speaker 1 (26:45):
Have you already... kind of ascertained, done a deep dive
on both of us, just how we're speaking and what
we're talking about.

Speaker 6 (26:51):
I've been listening to you all the entire time. What's
your assessment of producer Taylor? I find you both to
be very big personalities. It's very refreshing to be here
with you guys.

Speaker 1 (27:00):
What do they tell you about this show when you
sign up to work here at iHeartRadio San Francisco? What
do they say about this obviously the number one show
of all time.

Speaker 6 (27:10):
And honestly very lucky to even be in this studio
what are you.

Speaker 1 (27:14):
Looking forward to the most here with your sales job here.

Speaker 6 (27:27):
I love working with people to help them figure out
how they want to get their message out to the
general public. It's really fun to bring that creative element.
And it's never the same experience whenever you walk into
the office day to day. And it's a very rewarding
experience to translate that for the public.

Speaker 1 (27:42):
Gosh, he's so verbose as well. Now, what made you
choose philosophy as a major in college? And how did
your parents feel about it?

Speaker 6 (27:51):
Well, that's why I balanced it out with a double
major in psych. But no, philosophy is a great way
to kind of structure how you should approach problem solving.
And I really try to blend that in with work
as well. You've got to connect with people. You also
need to kind of translate that into something that's actually
going to translate and work out.

Speaker 1 (28:09):
Look at Thomas with the practical application. How many times
did you have to tell your parents that one?

Speaker 6 (28:15):
People forget, too, that a lot of philosophy majors go
into law school. So you've got to have some sort
of structure to formulate what you're thinking.

Speaker 1 (28:22):
Don't worry, Ma. Don't worry, Dad. I'm going to be
a lawyer. You're also very active in the Rotary community.

Speaker 6 (28:28):
That's right. I am the vice president of public relations.
I've been there for a year and a half.

Speaker 1 (28:32):
Rotary Club San Francisco. That's right. We're the second oldest club.

Speaker 7 (28:35):
In the world.

Speaker 6 (28:35):
Question.

Speaker 3 (28:36):
What is a Rotary Club?

Speaker 6 (28:38):
Rotary Club is the original, or Rotary was the original
networking group in the United States. It was founded in Chicago,
but ultimately it was just a group of people wanting
to get together and help grow commerce in their local community.

Speaker 1 (28:50):
Okay.

Speaker 6 (28:51):
But then obviously it's evolved a little bit too into
a volunteer aspect. That's also very important. Service above self
is kind of the tagline.

Speaker 3 (28:57):
Sounds like vibes.

Speaker 1 (28:58):
Thomas was also in the Peace Corps. He might be
the best human being in this building. Oh my gosh.

Speaker 3 (29:02):
What haven't you done?

Speaker 1 (29:03):
We don't have that kind of time. Anyway, welcome, Thomas.
Get to know your coworkers.

Speaker 6 (29:08):
Thank you so much.

Speaker 1 (29:08):
Thank you for joining us. It's Marcus in the morning,
about to get out of here. Have a great day.
We'll talk to you tomorrow.
