and an incredible season for the Seattle Seahawks, their second
Super Bowl title, and for the third time in the
history of this city we have a full on downtown
parade to celebrate a championship. June of nineteen seventy nine,
the Sonics had a parade that went up and down

through the streets of downtown Seattle and estimated five hundred
plus thousand people. And then, of course, in February of
twenty fourteen, the first ever Super Bowl title was celebrated
here in Seattle. After that we waited twelve years, But
twelve years later, here we are the Seattle Seahawks having
a celebration that is just getting underway inside Luminfield. But

outside Lumanfield is where really it's gonna happen with the
parade that will take place here very very soon, and
we are got you covered all the way through. He

and we now have people actually, as I speak, climbing

the light poles here at the corner of Fourth and Sherry.
I'm not sure how the officers are feeling about this,
but a guy has climbed the light pole here at
Fourth and Cherry.

about how emotional the year has been for himself. But

a chance. The young quarterback I felt when I watched
the game, I felt sorry for him, actually, and and
you know what, and they they it didn't work. And
so no, I'm so happy for the Seahawks and coach

Mike McDonald's he's done a great job. And that's it's hard.
He deserves us.

and I think anybody who's ever played the position or

you think was really key to watching that poor guy

You know, Hugh, I think the fact that they could
bother him and pressure him with four guys and then
get the other seven guys who are great athletes running
around behind that to come up the passing game, you know,
it's it's hard. And I when I might take away

from the offensive line for the New England Patriots, couldn't.
They just didn't function. They couldn't handle it. And when
he could rush with four guys and disrupt like that,
you know, the quarterback, it's hard. You don't have much
of a chance.

carries in this game, by far the most carries of
any in the season.

show that they moved him back yep. And then they
hand him the ball and he just looks and waits
and he's good at that, and so it has worked

Just number one, just kind of the human side of this.
You know that this is this is such a sweet
redemption for him. He's the last guy that's spiking the
football after the game because that's just how he's wired.

But just your thoughts about the triumph, the personal triumph
that was represented in Sam Donald tonight. But then then
maybe schematically, you know, the quarterback coach and Mike holmgrin,
what what did you think about the game that he had,
what was going through your mind from a strategic sense,
and how you might have been interacting with him as

that game went along.

Well, first of all, Hugh, you know, and you know
it's better than anybody. I was very happy for how
he played and what he did. And he's been you know,
it's been crazy. We have talked about it on the
show before, how people are critical or not critical, but
they say, you know, he still has to do this.

He's been remarkable this year and it's been a gray
I'm so happy for him. Okay, now what I would say.
He threw some plat passes early that were close. They
were really close, and and you know what, but you
know that shows me the confidence level he has. I

just think I'm very happy for him because of all
the stuff they talked about with him and he finally
got it done.

Coach, I turned to my brother when Sam was six
of seventeen, and I said, you know, Sam, to me,
looks like a guy that's kind of hopped up, like
a kid hopped up on skittles.

You know, he's like he's like, he's like down like three.

Bags of skittles, and he's just a little not nervous,

rhythm a little bit, because he was clearly more comfortable
in the second half than he was in the first half.

Yeah, I agree with I think, and I've had to
deal with that with quarterbacks before, particularly Brett Farv you know,
where you just say, hey, it's okay, calm down, take
a breath, let's get this done. You know, whatever, you say,
whatever you decided decided to say as a coach. But uh,
you know, and he did that. He responded beautifully, and

you know what that that's been his season. Like I said,
I'm so happy for him really because he's been under
the gun and all the all the criticism, whatever it is,
the criticism or the doubt, you know, and now he's
done it. And I couldn't be happier.

I thought there was a good portion of that game,
you could almost say for three quarters, but certainly in
the first half where both quarterbacks were underseas and certainly
for Darnold's part. I mean he was trying to throw

guys all around him, everything closing in on him. Yeah,

you know, he's getting his arm hit, he's having to move,
what have you. I thought there was a portion of
that game where it was very difficult to be a
professional quarterback, regardless of of which.

the you avoided the mistakes, you made a few plays

play the position. So there are games where all of
a sudden you see that, you know, it's it's hard,
you're getting banged around, and how you handle that and
how you bounce back from that, it says a lot
about who you are. And that's what I saw tonight.

I saw him bounce back from that. At the pressure
and what was happening in the game. It was hard,
and then all of a sudden, you know, he hung
in there and he started making good decisions. Well it
didn't start making he made good decisions, right, but he
you know, he hung in there and it was good.

will continue to happen. I think I think the future
is very bright. I think people will look at Seattle
like they've looked in the past at Pittsburgh, you know,
San Francisco, Green Bay, whomever. So it's an exciting thing.
The city should be very excited about this.

Well, Mike, I personally think I'm certain that I speak
for many Seahawk fans. I think that the acquisition of
Mike Holmgren just put an entirely different.

whole generation of kids that when they saw Seattle Seahawks,

But I think you can take a lot of pride

and an incredible season for the Seattle Seahawks, their second

parade to celebrate a championship. June of nineteen seventy nine,
the Sonics had a parade that went up and down

through the streets of downtown Seattle and estimated five hundred
plus thousand people. And then, of course, in February of
twenty fourteen, the first ever Super Bowl title was celebrated
here in Seattle. After that we waited twelve years, But
twelve years later, here we are the Seattle Seahawks having
a celebration that is just getting underway inside Luminfield. But

parade that will take place here very very soon, and

get the other seven guys who are great athletes running

They just didn't function. They couldn't handle it. And when
he could rush with four guys and disrupt like that,
you know, the quarterback, it's hard. You don't have much
of a chance.

Just number one, just kind of the human side of this.
You know that this is this is such a sweet
redemption for him. He's the last guy that's spiking the
football after the game because that's just how he's wired.

But just your thoughts about the triumph, the personal triumph
that was represented in Sam Donald tonight. But then then
maybe schematically, you know, the quarterback coach and Mike holmgrin,
what what did you think about the game that he had,
what was going through your mind from a strategic sense,
and how you might have been interacting with him as

that game went along.

Well, first of all, Hugh, you know, and you know
it's better than anybody. I was very happy for how
he played and what he did. And he's been you know,
it's been crazy. We have talked about it on the
show before, how people are critical or not critical, but
they say, you know, he still has to do this.

He's been remarkable this year and it's been a gray
I'm so happy for him. Okay, now what I would say.
He threw some plat passes early that were close. They
were really close, and and you know what, but you
know that shows me the confidence level he has. I

just think I'm very happy for him because of all
the stuff they talked about with him and he finally
got it done.

Coach, I turned to my brother when Sam was six
of seventeen, and I said, you know, Sam, to me,
looks like a guy that's kind of hopped up, like

Bags of skittles, and he's just a little not nervous,

deal with that with quarterbacks before, particularly Brett Farv you know,
where you just say, hey, it's okay, calm down, take
a breath, let's get this done. You know, whatever, you say,
whatever you decided decided to say as a coach. But uh,
you know, and he did that. He responded beautifully, and

you know what that that's been his season. Like I said,
I'm so happy for him really because he's been under
the gun and all the all the criticism, whatever it is,
the criticism or the doubt, you know, and now he's
done it. And I couldn't be happier.

you could almost say for three quarters, but certainly in
the first half where both quarterbacks were underseas and certainly

what have you. I thought there was a portion of
that game where it was very difficult to be a
professional quarterback, regardless of of which.

the you avoided the mistakes, you made a few plays

play the position. So there are games where all of

you're getting banged around, and how you handle that and
how you bounce back from that, it says a lot

and what was happening in the game. It was hard,
and then all of a sudden, you know, he hung
in there and he started making good decisions. Well it
didn't start making he made good decisions, right, but he
you know, he hung in there and it was good.

is very bright. I think people will look at Seattle
like they've looked in the past at Pittsburgh, you know,
San Francisco, Green Bay, whomever. So it's an exciting thing.

for many Seahawk fans. I think that the acquisition of
Mike Holmgren just put an entirely different.
