Speaker 2 (00:07):
Hey, it's Laney. Today, We're going to explore Scribner, Nebraska,
which is located along the Elkhorn River in the eastern
central part of the state, about twenty two miles northwest
of Fremont. Scribner was officially founded in eighteen seventy one
when John Blair mapped out the town and named it
after his Chicago's son in law, Charles Scribner, whose family
later became famous for the Scribner Publishing Company. Scribner may

(00:31):
be small, but hospitality is the core of the town.
Scribner's website proudly shouts out the garbage man who honks
waves and sometimes gives out snacks, the baggers at Lee's
Market who bring your groceries to your car, and hands
on teachers who give one on one mentorship to their
classrooms of less than twenty students. More than seventy businesses
operate in Scribner, including Mel's Bar and Lounge, The Nook,

(00:53):
Pebble Creek, Vintage Thrift, and Cameron's Catering and Sweets. If
you visit downtown Scribner, you'll notice that there's a unique
Park king layout where vehicles actually park in the middle
of the road as well as parallel on the sides.
One other fun tidbit is that George Dern, the sixth
Governor of Utah, was born and raised in Scribner. If
the last name sounds familiar, that might be because his grandson,

(01:14):
Bruce Dern, was the lead actor in the Alexander Payne
movie Nebraska, and his great granddaughter is Laura Dern, who's
known for her roles in Jurassic Park and Big Little Lies,
among others.

Speaker 1 (01:24):
Connection, Yeah, for sure, we.

Speaker 2 (01:26):
