Speaker 1 (00:00):
Bit a minute since we got to hang out with
this guy. And by the way, last time you were
showing off a awesome World Series ring, it's Chris Young
is in the house. Dude.
Speaker 2 (00:09):
I forgot.
Speaker 1 (00:10):
Yeah, I was that. Is that retired for a little bit?
Where is it at? Uh?
Speaker 2 (00:14):
No, no, no, let's not retired. I just I wore
that for for you.
Speaker 1 (00:21):
Oh.
Speaker 2 (00:22):
I was like, I know your sports guys, Okay, cool,
I'll rock that today and do something kind of cool.
Sorry I'm boring. I'm just wearing a cool watch today.
Speaker 1 (00:33):
Listen. I appreciate you coming. Obviously, you're a busy guy.
We were just talking a second ago. Uh. And I
know this has been a topic you talk about a
million times. I want to touch base. Uh. There's so
many artists with bars, right, Why did it make sense?
Because I'm not gonna ask why, because because while they
are not, that sounds fun. Why was this the right
(00:54):
time and how did everything line up for you?
Speaker 2 (00:57):
I just found the right space. I didn't want something
that was crazy, big, multi story. I wanted to do
a sports bar. I wanted to do something that you know,
doesn't necessarily lean towards the part of my life that
is the majority of it, which is music. I wanted
to do something a little bit different. So I finally
(01:18):
found a spot. It's ninety four person cap and I
was like, Yeah, this is this is it, this is
what I've been looking for. So we put a lot
of effort into that, a lot of effort into the kitchen.
My chefs are absolutely incredible. I feel like it's sort
of a slap in the face to them to call
it elevated bar food because it's so nice. Like we
(01:40):
did a taste test of everything and I was just like, man,
this is insane. But it's going to be a lot
of fun to have that place open. And you know,
we've got a bunch of stuff that we've hung up
on the walls, whether it's sports memorabilia all the way
to you know, plaques of mind for music to stuff
(02:00):
from friends of mine that they've given and been like,
hey man, hang this up. Let it have a spot.
So it's going to be a different vibe and something
that I've been wanting to do for a long time
and just timed out perfectly.
Speaker 1 (02:15):
And I was going to ask that too, because there's
a lot of artists h and not just in Nashville,
but around the country that you know, a company goes, hey,
I'll open a bar for you, and they're like, okay, sweet,
and then they're like, here's a bunch of stuff that
I wore at one point hanging on the walls. How
how were you How involved were you in the process
of like, hey, here's how I want this to look,
(02:36):
Here's how I want this to feel. I mean, were
you like looking at paint schemes of wallpaper or did
you trust somebody else with that.
Speaker 2 (02:42):
I may or may not have been in there, you know,
helping install some of the stuff. Oh yeah, I was
very hands on with it, and you know, very dedicated
to the point where you know, in one of the
bathrooms there may or may not be a photo of
my dog in black and white h framed taking a poop,
(03:08):
you know, because how eloquent, how classy, okay good, I
don't know how that would go over and a labs
to be fair.
Speaker 1 (03:18):
Uh, you you're talking on the decor of the building,
like it's more Chris Young the person versus Chris Young
the artist. Right, it's more you're personal.
Speaker 2 (03:28):
Right, Yeah, So you know I've got one of the
plaques that's in there is a Lee Brice plaque, but
it's the one that was presented to my buddy john Stone,
who wrote the song that Lee cut, and all of
us know each other. So being able to have personal
touches like that, I think are are a lot of fun.
You know, it's going to be a cowboys bar. Sorry
(03:52):
Eagles fans's cry, so let's push some Eagles fans as
far out as we can. It's definitely going to be
a place where everybody just kind of sort of come
hang out. Like one of the things that I mentioned
to somebody and they were like, oh, I've never thought
about that before, is we're going to have a lot
(04:13):
of the football like soccer matches on early in the
morning because a lot of people come to Nashville from
the UK because they want to be here and they
love country music, and they don't have any place to
go to really watch those games because no one's playing them.
So that's something we're going to try and not necessarily
(04:34):
specialize in, but sort of cater to.
Speaker 1 (04:36):
Yeah, that's really cool. Are you Is that your anytime
we've caught up we talk about your podcast to a
certain degree, is that somewhere where you hope that like
even your podcast can can come to life a little
bit more.
Speaker 2 (04:49):
I sort of put that to the side when I
started doing this. I haven't like the podcast has been
on hiatus sort of indefinitely because between that touring, the
new label, being with you know, Black River, and putting
out a new album and then now putting out a
deluxe on the fifteenth, you know, there's there's been a
(05:11):
lot going on. So I've sort of had to pick
and choose, like, Okay, you can only do so much
if you want it to be really well done. So
I've sort of I'm not saying I wouldn't ever revitalize that,
but it definitely is a place that will be used
(05:31):
for multiple different things. Hopefully we're throwing some number one
parties in there, for I didn't come here to leave.
Speaker 1 (05:38):
The last thing I want to ask that is not
music career related, is last time you're in here. I
love talking fantasy football with you. Who And we'll clip
this so we can use it close to the season.
So if they are healthy, who, give me like, who
would be one of your top picks this year? Not
just one? Like give me a couple in the that
(06:00):
you're like, hey, here's or a sleeper. You're like, hey,
this is my ace and the whole guy.
Speaker 2 (06:05):
I oh man, it's it's too early. This is right, Like,
I don't ever do my draft until the week before
the season kicks because it never fails, someone gets hurt
that you have like on your roster, of like, this
(06:25):
is the guy that I'm going to pick, this is
my sleeper pick. And I'm not kidding. It never fails.
I'll have at least one person go down before week
one kicks off. So I'll tell you right now, I
will gladly come back on and hang with you and
talk about that all right when we're closer to the season.
(06:46):
But yeah, it's just going to be interesting to see
how some of the running back situations sort of scale out.
Speaker 1 (06:54):
Yeah, because it looks like those teams gave up on running.
Speaker 2 (06:58):
Well yeah, and then some are gonna have to give in,
you know. I mean you look at the Ravens. They've
always notoriously been a run heavy offense, whether it's Lamar
or Derrick Henry or somebody else that's you know, been
picked up and is sort of their their third option.
(07:21):
Like they've they've always sort of leaned into that. But
I wonder if they're gonna make him more stationary and
less mobile this year's and they're just trying not to
telegraph it. So the little things like that, as you
get closer to the season, you can sort of like
pick up on those.
Speaker 1 (07:36):
Listen, we'll dive in once we get close to fall,
once that Chris breeze hits the air here in Nashville. Yeah,
we're far away from that, but yeah, we got we
got some humidity to swim through. Coming up here always
during zay Fast Week isn't that great?
Speaker 2 (07:50):
It never fails.
Speaker 1 (07:50):
And it's funny because it literally feels, like I said
the other day, I'm like, if your name is Noah
Star building a narc because the rain's coming. Oh yeah,
that's how it's felt. CMA Fest. It looks like, you know,
the weather's going to open up here. We'll talk about
CMA Fest first here. Is that something that you look
forward to because it's really like you're busy, Like it's
(08:12):
even though it's h home and you likely will sleep
in your own bed whenever you get there, whenever you
get done.
Speaker 2 (08:20):
Yeah, it is something I definitely look forward to, and
you know, growing up here obviously being from Murphy Store,
at Tennessee. One of the things that I used to
do was go to it when it was called Fanfare
back in the day at the Fairgrounds. And I've got great,
great memories from that as a kid and being a
(08:41):
country music fan. So as it changed and evolved over time,
of course, is it still really really awesome. Yeah, especially
if you live country music. There's just so much to see,
so much to do. You can't get to everything because
there's so many people doing so many different things, and
(09:04):
you know this is gonna be the last year that
it's at this stadium, the old.
Speaker 1 (09:11):
Stum.
Speaker 2 (09:14):
Good lord.
Speaker 1 (09:14):
What what country music fans don't realize too is as
much as this is work and you're gonna be shaking
hands and kissing babies, making stress.
Speaker 2 (09:24):
Don't say backwards, don't shake babies.
Speaker 1 (09:26):
I heard that shortened career. But this is also an
opportunity for you to catch up with with friends in
the industry, right Like, as much as you can.
Speaker 2 (09:36):
People camera are laughing really hard, right now, go ahead.
Speaker 1 (09:40):
People don't realize this is a shot for you to
catch up with some friends in the industry as well.
You could be super close with another artist, but like
you only see them at stuff like this, Who are
some people that you hope, like, Hey, I haven't seen
so and so in a while, it'd be nice to
run into them. See.
Speaker 2 (09:54):
I actually feel like this week specifically is less of that.
Oh okay, mainly because all of us are like in
different places trying to do different things at the same time. Yeah,
and so like, even if you run into somebody, it's
like you're backstage at an event, You're like, oh, hey, man,
can see you. Dap them up and then move on.
(10:18):
I feel like you get that more at award shows
because you get a lot of downtime after, like you know,
walking carpets and stuff. But yeah, I still feel like
you get to catch up with people. Most of my
friends like I annoy the crap out of them anyway,
So it's like, you know, KB Mitchell Tenpenny, like people
(10:43):
like that that I'm real close with, Like I annoyed
them enough.
Speaker 1 (10:48):
So you were you just brought up. Obviously, we're getting
ready to celebrate the deluxe edition of the album. As
an artist, the deluxe edition thing used to be sporadic,
didn't happen a ton. Now it feels pretty regular for
that to happen for an album. Especially in country music
as an artist. Is that a cool experience for you
(11:11):
because it's almost like the original songs get to get
to have a second life, but like, also, here's you know,
another version or here's some new songs.
Speaker 2 (11:19):
That I mean, for me, I love the timing at
least in this particular instance for me, because I'm going
with I didn't come here to leave as the new single.
It's the title track of the record. Plus now I
get to give people, you know, a duet with Breelin
do it with Shalin and another new song that one
of my really close friends wrote. So I feel like
(11:43):
it gives it a little bit of a new life
at the same time that you know, we're dropping a
new single and then you know, you can have multiple
songs work at the same time now, So it's kind
of cool to have some new stuff to give to,
you know, fans of your music and and people that
are just excited to hear something different that maybe if
(12:05):
they've gone through like the track listing or if they haven't,
they'll find that stuff there.
Speaker 1 (12:12):
You have a certain glow about you, As you mentioned
the single is does this song mean more to you
than others? Is are you more proud of this song
than maybe some others on the album that you're not
proud of you. Yeah, I was gonna say, he's there's
some real shit on there, but there's some.
Speaker 2 (12:31):
Now I'm definitely really proud of this song. It's funny
because I started saying this, and I'm sort of like,
you know, kept it as as like a trademark of
when I talk about the song, you know, it is
the album title, but also you know, this song sounds
(12:52):
like you wrote it at nine pm, and we wrote
this at nine am. And it was because the previous
night I was out and I was getting ready to
go home at like six o'clock in Dallas. Davidson, who's
one of the writers on it with our buddy Kyle Fishman,
he was standing next to me and I'm like, I'm
(13:13):
gonna head out. Man, traffic's dying down, because you know,
everybody loves Nashville traffic. And he goes, do you know
one more? And I was like, yeah, I mean I
could have one more. I'm not driving. I took an
uber down here from my house and he is I
(13:35):
was like, do you want one more? He goes, well,
I didn't come here to leave and I was like,
I'm sorry, what now say that one more time? He goes,
I didn't come here to leave, and I was like, Dallas,
have you ever written that before? And he's like no.
I was like, can we write tomorrow? And he's like,
I've gotten eleven am, but I could do nine am.
(13:56):
So you know, we got up super early, wrote that
song in maybe forty five minutes, and like Kyle did
a quick demo track and I sang the vocal that
morning and was out of there.
Speaker 1 (14:08):
It's funny because even as you say that, it's like, Wow,
that sounds like a great song and like a good
story to tell in his song? Is there? Is there
a song you have, whether it's on this deluxe or
something that's been out that you're like, I'm floored this
hasn't been out there before like this, How with how
easy it came out, how easy the ideas flowed, the
(14:30):
song wrote itself like there, How the hell was this
not done before?
Speaker 2 (14:34):
You know, Honestly, the song that I did with Shalan,
like the hook being that makes one of us. I
don't know how many times I've said that around friends.
Speaker 1 (14:47):
Usually as a smart ass, right, yeah, trying to.
Speaker 2 (14:50):
Be Yeah, that makes one of us and then for
us to turn it into you know, a truly in
absolated breakup song, because I don't care what anybody says.
Ninety nine percent of the time if you go through
a breakup, I don't care. If both of you are
saying you're good, one of the people is not. And
(15:13):
so being able to take that and sort of twist
it around that title I thought was a really cool thing.
Speaker 1 (15:21):
I mean, it's a great idea. Do you so we'll
get the deluxe edition. You're going to be busy on
the road the bars opening. We'll leave a space there
to edit the date. Maybe I may know by the
time I walk out of here, so but you should
leave your phone out in case you get it up there, right,
(15:42):
what are other things this year that you're like, Man,
I'm so fortunate that this is on my calendar this
year and I know all of it, right, Like this touring,
like that's all stuff you enjoy and don't take for granted.
But what's what are other things that you're like that
we as fans might not think that you're like excited
about the rest of the year.
Speaker 2 (16:01):
Oh man, you know, just it sounds very very boring,
but being busy. A lot of the time, you'll look
at your schedule and you'll be like, ugh, I wish
you didn't have to do anything. I didn't want to,
you know, get up at six am this morning, he's
(16:24):
start doing interviews. But it's what I had to do.
And it's been really amazing because I get to talk
about this music that I'm so excited about and the
album that I'm excited about and touring, and you know,
not everybody gets to do that, So you got to
sort of look at things through the lens of I'm
(16:46):
going to enjoy this. I'm gonna celebrate every single minute
that I get. That's a cool thing because there's a
lot of people that you know, I just played a
rodeo at Globelife in Arlington and Texas and it was amazing.
I was just like, not everybody gets to do this,
(17:08):
sitting here in an arena with a whole bunch of
people and playing country music and they know the songs.
So yeah, just celebrating little moments.
Speaker 1 (17:17):
Last thing I want to ask is you mentioned celebrating
number one and number one parties right well, had that
country radio has a special relationship with country music fans.
I think more so than any than any other format
of music. When it comes to your relationship with country radio,
what is that Because they're streaming, there's social media, there's
(17:41):
all these different When you started, all those things didn't exist.
It was radio. But now what does radio mean to
you as far as your success in your career and
that connection that you can still have with fans discovering
new music.
Speaker 2 (17:53):
I don't like how you made me sound old there.
I don't like.
Speaker 1 (17:57):
I'm not old, I said experienced. Although I would say
the info seat leads with his near twenty year.
Speaker 2 (18:04):
Career, well, it's not near anymore.
Speaker 1 (18:07):
Unfortunately, his thirty five years.
Speaker 2 (18:10):
Oh my god, No, don't do that.
Speaker 1 (18:12):
Don't do that to me.
Speaker 2 (18:14):
No, No, it's uh, it's very interesting to me. You know,
the music industry is constantly evolving, like it's constantly changing,
you know. I mean you look at any conversation right now.
People are worried about, you know, how do we adapt
and integrate with AI And it's like a dirty word
(18:37):
to some people. And then some people are like, no,
this is amazing. It's going to unlock all these avenues
for us. And it's the same thing, you know, going
back to before I had a record deal, when LimeWire exist.
So I think it's it's a constant evolution, and I
think the one thing that we've always retained is at
(19:00):
least to me, I can't speak for anybody else, and
you never put words in anybody else's mouth. But with
country music, it has always been my love because of
the love people showed to it. You know, you got
people that have been fans of artists for you know,
four decades, and I just think that while you sometimes
(19:25):
see that in other genres, it is extremely, extremely true
to people that are fans of country and I just
think that's something really special that we need to hold
on to. So it doesn't matter what the changes are,
It doesn't matter how things evolve, you know, keep putting
out good music, people keep showing up.
Speaker 1 (19:45):
That's awesome, man, christ Young, appreciate it. Man. Thanks
