Speaker 1 (00:00):
See how you measure up to a new poll about
how we're doing in American attitudes on a lot of things.
Rory and Neil NBC News Radio National correspondent back on
the liveline with us. Thanks Rory for doing this today, Trusty,
good morning, Good morning. So tell us a little bit
about the poll. You know, it's all about the numbers,
(00:21):
the sample size, the questions and do you like the
poll and where do we start?
Speaker 2 (00:26):
Awkward question. Yeah, So Quipiac University is behind this. It's
a monthly pole that comes out by them. So we
liked this because it does track everything because they do
a mix of, you know, asking about presidential approval every month,
congressional approval, that sort of thing. But then they also
mix in a few questions about current news headlines, in
(00:46):
this case news about Epstein. So I'm looking at the
numbers here, nearly thirteen hundred self identified registered voters nationwide
between July tenth and fourteenth. We're questioned with about a
two point seven percent plus or minus margin of error
here on Trump approval overall, holding about the same, around
forty percent approve but fifty four percent disapproved. That's about
(01:09):
the same as last month and specifically now on the
Epstein files, sixty three percent of voters disapprove are the
way the administration is handling the Epstein files, only seventeen
percent approve. Even among Republicans, they appear split on this.
Forty percent approve, thirty six percent disapprove, Democrats eighty nine. Well,
(01:30):
they disapprove about everything with President Trump.
Speaker 1 (01:33):
How about Congress, how's it holding them?
Speaker 2 (01:35):
Ooh well, not great really for either party. Fewer than
two in ten voters. Nineteen percent approve of the way
Democrats are doing their job. Even among Democrats, only thirty
nine percent approve of the way they're doing their job.
A third of voters approve of the way Republicans in
Congress are doing their job, and among Republicans seventy seven
percent approve. So yeah, some rough numbers there for both
(01:58):
Democrats and republic So what about a third party, Well,
about half of voters say they would consider joining a
third party as an alternate. Forty five percent said they
would not, But about seventy seven percent said they would
not consider a third party if Elon Musk created it
as the alternative.
Speaker 1 (02:16):
Oh that's not at all what he was probably hoping
for when he made.
Speaker 2 (02:19):
That exactly, and there's a fascinating question about the American dream.
Is the American dream still attainable? Now? They did not
define the American dream. I suppose it is different for everybody.
But when they were asked if you think the American
dream is still attainable, half think it is not. Only
(02:40):
forty three percent think the American Dream is attainable. Big
divide among Democrats and Republicans, even among men and women.
Democrats are more pessimistic, they don't think it will happen.
Seventy eight percent think the American dream is no longer attainable.
Seventy nine percent of Republicans think it's alive and well,
and women are less likely to believe the American dream
(03:02):
is something to attain.
Speaker 1 (03:03):
That is Rory O'Neill, NBC News Radio National correspondent, Thank you,
Thanks Dave
