Speaker 1 (00:00):
During the bottom of the hour news Brian Coberger did
admit to the killings of those four University of Idaho students.
On that story, Tanya Jay Powers with Box News Radio
in New York this morning, Tanya, thanks for doing this today.

Speaker 2 (00:12):
Thank you, good morning. Thank you.

Speaker 1 (00:14):
So give us a little recap of this very high
profile case and an apology from the judge because this
thing happened so quickly toward the end, Yeah.

Speaker 2 (00:27):
This was I mean, this was over two and a
half years since all this happened. It has just kind
of dragged out in court. And Brian Coberger did plead
guilty yesterday, like I said, to the stabbing death of
those four University of Idaho students. There was a plea
deal with prosecutors that allowed him to avoid the death penalty.

(00:49):
He had been set to go to trial next month.
He was asked by the judge, are you pleading guilty
because you are guilty, and he said yes. One by one.
The judge made him confirm that he had murdered each
of his victims, and he would ask did you on
Noumber thirteenth, twenty twenty two, you know in the state
of Idaho, you know? And he went through each one

(01:11):
of those with with each one of them's name, and
after each one of them, coworker said, yes, that he
had he had done that. There was the prosecuting attorney
had said in court that they had evidence that is
a selfie from Coworker's phone that on the day of
the crime, you know, he had made a selfie with
like a thumbs up in you know, his apartment. It

(01:33):
appeared to be you know, like a like a just
a thumbs up photo. He said this. The prosecuting attorney
was like, he didn't show any remorse. The families are
kind of mixed as to what they think of this
plea deal. Kaylee Goncalva's father, Thieves, said he's he's been
kind of outspoken about this. Yesterday, he said that he

(01:54):
did not agree with the prosecutor's deal with Coburger that
allowed him to avoid the death penalty. He said, as
talking about the prosecutor, he said, he only negotiated with
the murder of our murderer of our children. That was
the only person he negotiated with the family of a
different victim, Medisine Mogan. They said they're happy with the result.

(02:16):
They they along with one of the other families had.
You know, I think the Shape and family praised the
deal that prosecutors made with him, saying that it spared
the family's a lengthy trial and having to you know,
go through all of that. The gone Calvis family and
the Kernodle family have expressed, you know, outpage and they

(02:37):
said that justice was not properly served because of this.

Speaker 1 (02:40):
You have to kind of look at the case that
was laid out before him. I mean, there's no murder
weapon this what is he a master's level CJ student,
criminal justice student. This guy was kind of smart and
this at least gets a conviction, right, I mean, certainly
understand those parents that were hoping for the death penalty though.

Speaker 2 (03:02):
Yeah. Yeah, I mean, like I said, you've got you've
got a couple of them that were, you know, outraged
at the fact that you know, this guy was not
He's like I said, Gon Calvis, Steve Gonkalvis said, we
didn't agree on anything. You know, he didn't even he
didn't negotiate with him at all, you know. So that's yeah,
I mean, we will know what his sentencing is on

(03:23):
the twenty third, that's when that is supposed to take place.
He's probably going to spend the rest of his life
from prison. But they did, you know, for this plea deal,
they did take the death penalty off the table.

Speaker 1 (03:34):
It is tiny. Jay Powers with Fox News Radio in
New York this morning, Thank you for your time today.

Speaker 2 (03:40):
Thank you
