Congressional Work Before Break

Fox News Radio's Ryan Schmelz joins us to discuss Congressional priorities before the House and Senate head home for the holidays.

Speaking of timing, So Congress gets back after the longest
government shut down ever and they have got some scheduled
time off and there's a lot of stuff that needs
to get done. On the liveline this morning is Ryan
Schmels at the White House. Ryan, thanks for doing this today.

Speaker 2 (00:17):
Yeah, of course, good money.

Speaker 1 (00:19):
So there's a January deadline, right, so they're all pairing
up trying to figure out, so what are our major
things that need to get done before we take a
holiday break.

Speaker 2 (00:28):
Well, there's going to be a vote this week on
healthcare and Democrats are going to be putting a bill
on the floor that would address healthcare and be an
extension of his Affordable Care Act premium tax credits. Now,
what's till they put on the floor and what the
ultimately time to go with. It looks like they're going
to go with Leader Schumer's plan of a three year
extension of the Affordable Care Act tax credits, but that

does not really stand much of a chance of passage.
So we'll see if Schumer sticks of that plan. It
looks like that's what the case is going to be,
but like I said before, it stands a very small
chance of getting enough Republican votes.

Speaker 1 (01:03):
Was this one of those things when they were deciding
if they'd come back, you know, in the midst of
this deadline that will Well Republicans said we'll take it up,
and it appears as if they're actually gonna do it.

Speaker 2 (01:15):
It was part of a deal to grew up in
the government. Yes, So what else.

Speaker 1 (01:19):
Is big that needs to get done before everybody wraps
Christmas presents and gets their troubles reader for Hannaka.

Speaker 2 (01:28):
It looks like they have at least the framework for
the NDAA out now, which is the National Defense Authorization Act.
That's a major month past piece of legislation that sets
military policy for the next fiscal year. So walk I
haven't had a chance to read it and see what's
in it, but it's probably gonna have a major increase
in troop pay some other things like that, so we'll see.

This was kind of a big back and forth between
actually Republicans and the White House because the White House
has been pushing to keep spending levels for the military
relatively flat, where other Republicans are saying no, no, no,
we want a one trillion dollar defense budget that you
promised on the campaign trail. But we'll see what that
looks like.
