Speaker 1 (00:00):
And this is West Michigan's Morning News on Wood Radio.
Looks like more people than perhaps ever will travel as
we head into the holiday season. You're listening to West
Michigan's Morning News with Brad Bakita. I am Steve Kelly Schmidt.
He's back soon. Tanya Jay Powers is on this story
with Box News Radio in New York City. Good morning, Tanya.
Speaker 2 (00:24):
Hey, good morning.
Speaker 1 (00:25):
So one one hundred and twenty two point four million
travelers anticipated spent a long time since we've seen numbers
like that.
Speaker 2 (00:34):
Yeah, that is about two percent more than we had
last year too. It's it is we've been sitting setting
records as we've gone along here with the holidays travel
season already with Thanksgiving. This one is going to be
another big one. Now. This timeframe that we're talking about
here is between December twentieth and January first, so it's
(00:55):
quite a long one, as it normally is, because it
has Christmas and New Year's in there. Eighty nine percent
of that number is expected to go by car. The
gas prices are lower than they were last holiday season,
so that's one of the reasons that you know, it
may be looking more attractive for a road trip right now.
For the first time in four years, the national average
(01:17):
drop below three dollars a gallon this month, so that's
also good news for people traveling and not planning a trip.
A lot of people are also going to fly. Triple
A says a little more than eight million travelers are
going to take domestic flights. As a matter of fact,
it's the first time on record that the number of
domestic air travelers over the year end holiday period will
(01:37):
get above eight million. So that's another notable thing. Again,
I got to ask.
Speaker 3 (01:41):
You, is there any rhyme or reason as far as
trends we're seeing. I know a lot of times, you know,
starting winner, people want to go where it's warm, or
you've got bowl games for college football fans, or And
I say that because I'll be one of those that's traveling.
But I'm not going to tell you where. But I'm
just wondering if there are already hotspots that you notice time.
Speaker 2 (02:00):
Yeah, there are some. The Triple A has also put
out its top ten list of destinations where people are
expected to be going. Number one domestically, there's domestic, and
of course there's international. Number one domestic as Orlando that
is not a big surprise we saw that I think
the top five had maybe five or maybe three or
(02:22):
four out of the top five for Thanksgiving travel was
like Florida destinations this one it's not much different. Orlando, Florida,
Fort Lauderdale, and Miami are one, two to three. Domestically
La Honolulu, Tampa. Those are the next three on the
top ten list. New York City is number seven, Mali
(02:43):
is eight, Dallas for Worth is nine, in Las Vegas
is ten. If you're talking about international travel number one, Cancun.
People want to go to Cancun. The Dominican Republic is
number two. Looking at the destinations like Cosmeo Mexico to Rika,
the Bahamas, Italy, that that's all in the top ten.
Speaker 1 (03:05):
Wow. I mean when you stop to think about it, right,
waking up in Cancun today, as compared to the weather
that we're seeing outside, Merry Christmas, dyve looks awesome.
Speaker 2 (03:16):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (03:18):
Absolutely, that's time that Jay Powers with Fox News Radio
in New York this morning, Thank you for your time.
Speaker 3 (03:25):
Sure.
Speaker 2 (03:25):
Thanks
