Speaker 2 (00:13):
All right, it's all college football here. I want to
get into Michigan, Texas with the bowl game, Notre Dame,
not getting in with ty Heleik. But we'll start tie
with our first two segments. And there are two subjects
I should say in the fact of the games that
I had you preview going into conference championship weekend, and
they really didn't disappoint, especially when it came to the
Big Ten Championship game. Number two Indiana knocks off number
(00:34):
one Ohio State thirteen to ten. So many amazing stats
in this one, but the one that stands out the
Indiana defense shutting out Ohio State in that second half time.
Speaker 3 (00:44):
Yeah, no doubt about it. I mean, you know, when
you thought about this game between Mendoza uh In that
offense for Indiana, along with you know, all the knowns
of Ohio State, you know, receivers, quarterback and how they've
been on a role, you felt like this would be
at least somewhat of an offensive showcase, and both the defenses,
(01:09):
quite frankly, were amazing, but Indiana's was just better, and
Kurt Signetti, once again, albeit not with a happy face,
won one of the biggest games of his career obviously
and in the big ten for the year in beating
Ohio State in a game that quite frankly, I don't
think anybody really saw it coming other than you know,
(01:32):
I think people thought it was going to be competitive,
and probably a lot of people thought Ohio State just
was you know, quote unquote a better team. But the
reality of it is Indiana has done nothing except for
really win and win games that people kind of bypassed them.
That quite frankly, is just awesome. I mean, it's just
(01:54):
a fun thing to see what Indiana's doing.
Speaker 2 (01:56):
Yeah, they want Oregon. They win this game, first big
outright championship for Indiana in football since nineteen forty five.
They Ohio State to just fifty eight yards rushing when
you count the sack yardage, which you got to do
because they were all over Julian saying in that game
to get the victory, all right, Speaking of on the
other side of things. That was a great game. The
defenses were dominating, but just a dominating performance in general
(02:20):
for number three Georgia. In the rematch with number nine
Alabama twenty eight to seven, we talked about how many
times Alabama had beaten Georgia. Matter of fact, they beat
them in Georgia in the regular season, their most impressive win,
and I think why they got into the College Football playoff.
But how about that Georgia team, and Kirby Smart, I
mean this was impressive.
Speaker 3 (02:38):
Yeah, impressive across the board. I mean special teams defense,
obviously timing Alabama. Yeah, and to your point earlier in
the season, I mean Alabama came in with probably one
of the most impressive wins earlier in the year, going
into Georgia and beating them there, which just not happened
(02:59):
very often. So Georgia bounces back, does it? Multi faceted?
Their offense was tough, they were able to run the ball,
They created some special teams problems for Alabama, and then
also stepped up and stopped them defensively. So very impressive
for Georgia. That's certainly a team I don't think I
(03:20):
want to play in the playoffs at this point, but
we'll see where it all fear it's out here as
we move forward.
Speaker 2 (03:29):
All right, Ty, your thoughts on Notre Dame not getting in.
I talked about earlier that basically the two teams that
got in ahead of them, if you will, Miami and
Texas A and M they didn't beat them in the regular season.
Their biggest win was number twenty USC at home, thirty
four to twenty four. As far as ranked teams, they
looked good against it a few weeks ago. But I mean,
I just don't really think that Notre Dame, when you
(03:50):
look at it head to head, has a leg to
stand out.
Speaker 3 (03:52):
Now.
Speaker 2 (03:52):
I don't think the committee handled it very well on
their rand as far as the rankings going into this.
But do you agree or disagree with that?
Speaker 3 (04:01):
You know, I at the end of the day, I
do agree that they didn't take care of their business
and put themselves in a position that there's some subjectivity
that you have to deal with. But I'll say, look,
I said this a long time ago. When they went
(04:21):
from four to twelve, you were creating more problems, not
less problems for committees and people to put people in
on who's best Now from the eye test, Notre Dame
should be in, but there's arguments for multiple teams that
are on the outside looking in. Because you went to twelve,
now you've probably got to go to sixteen. And I
(04:42):
don't think anybody, particularly James Madison or Tulane would want
to play Notre Dame right now. And that's what to
me where it's flawed. There does have to be some
reconciliation of putting knowing that you're putting the absolute best
teams in because the last too, it's no disrespect to them.
(05:02):
I don't think they'd want to play Texas. You know,
there's there's multiple teams here that probably looks for an
argument to expand it. Notre Dame. I you know, look,
they didn't beat Miami, they lost of Texas A and
m at home, like you said, I but I still
believe they should have gotten in just logically speaking. But
(05:23):
the system and the way that it is and the
tough decisions those people had to make, it is what
it is. But you again, Notre Dame put themselves in
this position by losing a couple of ballgames and leave
themselves on a teeter totter there, and they don't like
the outcome. They're going to go home and not playing
a bowl game, which I think is a bigger mistake.
Those kids and everybody needs to be developed. There's money
(05:45):
to be made. Obviously Notre Dame doesn't need it. They
got a ton, but it just looks bad for football.
