Speaker 1 (00:00):
A new national security strategy quietly rolled out by the
White House on December fourth, but summer signaling a little departure.
Let's try to make a little sense of that with
Fox News Radios Jessica Rosenthal. Jessica, thanks for joining us
today on West Michigan's Morning News.
Speaker 2 (00:16):
Thanks for having me. Do I sound o kid to you.
I'm getting the crackle.
Speaker 1 (00:19):
You sound great to us. No crackle at all, although
that's my favorite nesle candy bar. And if there's a
big bag, I'm getting the crackle first. So talk to
us a little bit more about what was released and
what we know now about the Secretary of War's plan.
Speaker 2 (00:37):
Yeah. So, the National Security Strategy released December fourth, as
you noted, was a market departure from the president's first
term strategy. As you probably recall, eight years ago, he
was prioritizing China, Russia, Iran, North Korea. They were top concerns,
all mentioned on page two of that strategy in twenty seventeen,
it said China and Russia erode American security and prosperity.
(00:58):
In this new strategy, China and mentioned till page nineteen.
It's in the context of our economy, business and trade.
Russia is mentioned on page twenty five really as a
frustration for Europe. The threat of Iran is mentioned now
is greatly reduced. The strategy heavily mentions US as being
non interventionists now, and it realigns our focus first and
foremost on our own hemisphere, the western hemisphere, the migration, drugs,
(01:24):
human trafficking. These are the priorities not just for law enforcements,
but for our military now. This includes in the document
keeping the hemisphere free of hostile foreign incursion or ownership
of key assets. So without mentioning China, that's like a
reference to Chinese footholds across Latin and Central America. But
there's also several mentions of fairness. You might think that
relates to trade with China, and it does, but it's
(01:46):
also a dig at our allies when we tell in
this document they need to stand up for there's themselves
and pay more of their own defense. This ended up
being quite a bit of the focus of the Secretary
of warhead set speech at the Reagan Defense Form last weekend,
and just to go on a little bit. While he
mentioned many things, including our industrial base which is greatly suffering,
(02:08):
i'll mention as part of this discussion and refocusing our hemisphere.
Heg Sat said, we will hunt down narco traffickers like
we hunted al Qaeda. They will be treated as a
terrorist threat to our country. That the President has designated
certain cartels and groups as foreign terrorist organizations. I think
that's a clear reference and I think we can all
see what's happening with these attacks, in these Venezuelan and
(02:30):
drug votes. This is all part of a shift in
a realignment and focusing on our own backyard.
Speaker 1 (02:36):
Man. This is Jessica Rosenthal with Fox News Radio. Thanks
for your time this morning.
Speaker 2 (02:41):
Thank you.
