Speaker 1 (00:00):
And this is West Michigan's morning news stee Kelly, Brett, Kaita,
Lauren Smith with the day off today. Complete team coverage
of the Thanksgiving storm continues today. A little break is
you'll be watching along with the Kelly family, the Bikitas
as well the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade tomorrow. There's a
(00:20):
tracker on their website. It is one day, one hour
and fifty three minutes away. Tanya Jay Powers with Fox
News Radio and New York City gets to see it
right up close and personal. Tanya, thanks for doing this
again today.
Speaker 2 (00:33):
Sure, thanks for having me on.
Speaker 1 (00:35):
It's the standard by which parades should be measured. Talk
to us a little bit about what we can expect
to watch before we then all watch the dog show later.
Speaker 2 (00:44):
I know that's everybody here in the newsroom. That's our tradition.
We cover the parade and then at noon we watch
the dog show and we all we all take our
pick as to okay, this is going to be the winner.
I think this one is good. We kind of like
place our so called bents early on and be like,
all right, I'm rooting for the French the French bulldog,
and some of them got the pug and you know whatever.
(01:05):
But that's our tradition as well. This is you know,
it's a huge day, parade Day in New York City.
More than three and a half million people are going
to line the parade route, the two and a half
mile parade route from the Upper West Side where the
balloons and the parade starts, down to Macy's, the big
(01:26):
flagship macy store on Harold Square. That's where you see
you know, the rocket dancers and everybody. When you see
the TV shots and all the big you know set
up there where everybody performs and stuff. That's where that is.
They will come right down sixth Avenue and that is
right in front of the Fox News World headquarters building
(01:48):
here where I am, so we get to we get
to see it right out the front of our building,
and it is. It's amazing. This year there are I
think five new balloons. Buzz light Year is one of them.
You're also going to see a new balloon, Dorothy Tiger
from tepat Theman Hunters. You're also going to see Shrek's
onion carriage, Packed Man Shout out to the gen Xers
(02:13):
and Mario Mario is another another new one. This year,
so and of course they joined SpongeBob and Spider Man.
And you know, I don't know if Bluey's in the lineup,
but I would imagine. So it's a pretty popular balloon, Tanya.
Speaker 3 (02:25):
How about it's getting a lot of buzz. There's some
new floats, including the Littlest Float with Goldfish, but upside
Down Invasion Stranger Things, which everyone I know, my daughter's
fired up. I think the new episode drops today, right,
but the Upside Down Invasion is going to be big,
I know tomorrow morning.
Speaker 2 (02:45):
Yes, Stranger Things. I mean the fact that the I
can't I can't even believe it's the fifth and final season.
I've bet it's been going on for what ten years?
I mean, this is crazy. And yeah, that has gotten
a lot of attention. That one I'm looking forward to seeing.
There's of course, you know, my favorite thing is see
which performers are going to be on what floats. And
(03:06):
some of these floats are amazing because they have to
they're assembled, you know, like over New Jersey or wherever,
and then they have to fold up. They're engineers where
they can fold up to the size of a New
York City bus because they have to fit through the
Lincoln Tunnel and go from the parade studio over you know,
to the parade starting line on the upper west side.
(03:29):
So they have to be able to fold up, uh
and get through the tunnel when they come over, which
is kind of kind of funny. I'd love to see
them all folded up, honestly. I think that would be
kind of this feat of engineering because so many things,
I mean, they're huge, you know, some of them, as
you mentioned, not the smallest one obviously that I think
that one probably is going to be okay. But yeah,
(03:50):
and and today is the day that they have the
balloon inflation. They're at the Natural History Museum kind of
in the yard. They're on the upper west side. It's
they that's that's almost as big of an event as
the parade is. If you tried to go see it
just as a spectator, not just cover it. Last year
and I was when I went in. It's free and
(04:12):
you kind of you walk around and you can go
see that, you know, being balloon's being inflated. And I
was told at that point there was a two hour
wait just to get to the line to go in.
And yeah, it's a it's a if you're ever coming
up here and you're like, oh, let's go see you
blow up the blues. Go early, don't don't, don't go
late in the day, because it is a it is
(04:35):
a whole thing. Everybody wants to go see that.
Speaker 1 (04:37):
We have a winter store and watch your warning or
advisory for most of our listening area today. How's the
weather in New York City for this thing?
Speaker 2 (04:46):
It looks like we're going to have a high forty five.
Earlier we did have rain in the forecast, but I'm
hoping that's all going to just loosed out. It looks
like it's going to be you know, partly cloudy tomorrow,
maybe not. It doesn't say rain in the forecast, which
I'm grateful for. And hopefully the wind won't be you know,
anything that keeps the balloons you know, down or you
(05:07):
know altered. I've covered it in the past where we
had a huge winds where they had to keep them.
The balloons were like SpongeBob's foot was like at my
like head high. It was really low, so and we
were all just like, wow, Okay, I never thought we'd
see the balloons this this close. But hopefully they'll be
(05:29):
able to fly where they where they normally do.
Speaker 1 (05:31):
We'll be watching. Hopefully we'll have power time that Jay
powers with Boxings Radio in New York. Thanks for your
time today, sure, thank you,
