Speaker 1 (00:00):
And this is West Michigan's Morning News. We are back
in the midst of the trickiest commute of the season.
We'll get back to traffic and weather cancelations Atwoodradio dot com.
Steve Kelly and Brett Kaita. Laurence Smith is here, but
Rory O'Neil with NBC News Radio joining us on the program.
Speaker 2 (00:18):
Good morning, Rory, Hey, there's Steve.
Speaker 3 (00:20):
Good morning.
Speaker 1 (00:21):
So it Judges allowing the secret grand jury testimony of
Galaine Maxwell now.
Speaker 2 (00:27):
To be released to the public. I guess I didn't
know this was a thing. What could we learn here?
Speaker 3 (00:33):
Well, the judge is already saying, we're not going to
learn much from this now. Keep in mind it's only
being released because of the law recently passed by Congress
that allowed for the release of all this information. Previously,
Judges has said, no, it's grand jury stuff. We're not
going to it's designed to be kept secret. But with
the law passed by Congress, the judge says, Okay, here
it comes. But he specifically wrote in his order that
(00:57):
in this all this information, thousands of pages of documents,
he said they do not discuss or identify any client
of Epstein's or Maxwell's.
Speaker 2 (01:05):
So we're not going to see any names here.
Speaker 3 (01:08):
Maybe more about how Gilaine Maxwell was involved in recruiting
young girls, but don't look for a whole lot of
new information from these documents. And this is just one
of three big sort of legal proceedings still unfolding.
Speaker 1 (01:21):
Yeah, but I guess if it helps us to understand
a little bit more about how this whole giant thing
was working at a scale. Glaine was an assistant to
what was her official title with him?
Speaker 2 (01:34):
Do we know?
Speaker 3 (01:35):
I mean they were sort of half Yeah, it's complicated, people.
Speaker 1 (01:41):
Did we almost here? It sounded to me like we
almost heard a roory o'neilism on half. But anyway, co
conspirator I think is the best way to put this.
Speaker 2 (01:53):
It's just sure frightening what was going on with these people.
Speaker 3 (01:57):
Well look, here's the other thing that this does is
that it shuts down the rumor mill, at least one
branch of it. Right, I mean, because I think I've
said this to you before. This has almost become like
UFOs and the JFK files, right, Like, it's no one's
ever going to be completely satisfied unless everything is released,
even if it's sort of nothing new in these new documents.
(02:18):
So I think that's what we're seeing here, the fact
that they are going forward with this release that the
judge says, you're not going to learn a whole lot here.
Speaker 2 (02:26):
That's sort of that.
Speaker 3 (02:27):
The idea is to play kate people who are saying
release the files.
Speaker 1 (02:31):
And I don't think anybody's going to be satisfied until they, hey,
they here, enter this name here, right, everybody had a
name pop into their head, right.
Speaker 3 (02:39):
Well, and that's sort of reverse engineered, right. It's like,
unless it's the name of the political figure I dislike,
then I'm not going to obsesst.
Speaker 1 (02:48):
That is Roy O'Neil Nbceniors Radio National correspondent. Always a pleasure,
Thank you.
Speaker 3 (02:53):
Lift with the knees, guys, Lift with the knees all
I'm telling you
