Speaker 8 (03:36):
The experience did you know that there's A school i'm
talking to our listeners right NOW because i know you
know full well. About it there's a school that's doing
so much for its. Student body It's Called christo ray
and it's Been in columbus for how? Many years i'm asking,
Their Principal Miss Michelle ryan michelle?

Speaker 7 (03:57):
Had it What's?

Speaker 8 (03:58):
The michelle and there is that your?

Speaker 4 (03:59):
Middle, Name, yes michelle my.

Speaker 7 (04:00):
Middle name that's funny that.

Speaker 8 (04:02):
You STILL go I sometimes i'll Call myself Mindy su
but this is like.

Speaker 4 (04:05):
Informal, Writing, ryan well this is the. Interesting thing my
husband is Also.

Speaker 7 (04:09):
Named ryan, oh well that.

Speaker 3 (04:10):
MAKES sense.

Speaker 4 (04:12):
I know we Add the michelle in there to.

Speaker 7 (04:15):
Help clarify that does. Make sense so how long has
the school?

Speaker 4 (04:19):
Been here so we opened in? Twenty, thirteen okay. Twenty,
thirteen yes our first graduating class was in. Twenty seventeen and.

Speaker 8 (04:25):
If you Look At, crystal ray it looks like. A
castle it's like something Out Of. Harry potter don't you
think we have one of? Their graduates you just graduated, last, Year,
right yes, Of.

Speaker 9 (04:34):
Course, jalen howell class of twenty. Twenty four and thanks
you both so much for.

Speaker 7 (04:38):
Being here you are Now.

Speaker 9 (04:41):
At villanova we're going to get into some of your
story in. A Minute, but ryan tell us Why Did
kristo ray start in? Twenty thirteen what was the impetus?
Behind it it's a.

Speaker 4 (04:50):
Great Question krista ray is designed to serve families of
load to, modern income and so we want to offer
a High quality catholic education to families that might not
otherwise have, that opportunity and so that's why we started in,
twenty thirteen and that's what.

Speaker 8 (05:08):
We do, you know you think About a, catholic education
and you think you're going to be spending a lot
of money because it can get. Quite expensive BUT if,
i remember right after touring the school with, you guys
it Started in chicago for that. Exact reason there were
a couple a group of students that, you know their
dream was to go To a, catholic education Get a,
catholic education go To a, catholic school but they simply couldn't,

(05:30):
Afford it that's.

Speaker 4 (05:30):
Exactly it and so and we want to offer it's
a College prep, catholic education and we make it affordable
by offering a work. Study program so they started that
at The First Christa race school in the nineties And
Every christa race school has done. That since so our
students are all a part of a professional work study
program that helps to fund.

Speaker 8 (05:47):
Their education and That's how mikayla has become Familiar With.

Speaker 9 (05:50):
Krystal, ray Yeah the Department. Of commerce all of our
interns Come From. Christo Ray so i've had the opportunity
to see a few students through almost all four years
of high school and the growth and the presentations they
did just within the last month those, GRADUATING seniors i
was moved to tears over what they experienced and how
they experienced it. With us that opportunity doesn't come to.

(06:13):
Just anybody this is, So, Unique ryan.

Speaker 4 (06:15):
Oh yes it's when we see the growth from our
students from freshman year to his. Senior year it is.
So moving and then even Talking, with jayalen just seeing
him and what he's. Up to it's the work study
program does so much to help mentor, o students give
them real world. Working experience they make, eye contact they,
shake hands and then we have a really rigorous academic

(06:36):
program with a lot of supports to help them pursue.
Their dreams and so one hundred percent of our. Students
graduate they graduate with a.

Speaker 8 (06:45):
College acceptance one hundred percent. College acceptance and when you,
say that they make eye contact and they do all the. Right, things,
jayalen buddy when you walked into, the studio when you
walk through, the door there was a set of just
strength and confidence that just came. From you and what

(07:07):
did you SAY, To michaela what did you say, To, me,
yes ma'am, thank.

Speaker 7 (07:10):
You ma'am it.

Speaker 8 (07:11):
Comes right it's who, you are it's who. You became
i'm sure within those four Years Of. Crystal ray why
did you pick in your Family Pick?

Speaker 7 (07:18):
Christal ray, Of course I've PICKED.

Speaker 10 (07:20):
Chris a ray solely because my SISTER and i believe
that this was the, right choice both professionally and educationally
to get that kind of sense of belonging as well
as the educational approach to full high school and.

Speaker 7 (07:34):
College, approach yeah by, any chance do You Know? CLARA tolbert.

Speaker 9 (07:38):
I do she is still Working at commerce while she
is going. To college she is so dear to ME
And i just the respect and the work ethic that you,
all have and then just you learn to almost network
kind of in a. Business world So like, I'm, like
clara WHAT can i do to? HELP you i know
she wants to be like a first or second. Grade
teacher like this is just you come into this. Professional

(08:01):
space where did? You intern i'm curious.

Speaker 10 (08:04):
ABOUT that i entered at, Two Companies tim marzetti And.
Net Jets tim marzetti was two YEARS where i was
in it and the, microbiology laboratory and The net jets
was with, crew records dealing with a lot of the
pilots and.

Speaker 8 (08:16):
Flight attendants and now You're at villanova, of course so
how was that? First year was it harder than, you
thought Or Did krista ray really prepare? YOU well i
mean college, is hard whether you're well prepared, or not,
of course but how did they? Prepare you How Did
christi ray prepare you for your first Year?

Speaker 10 (08:30):
At Villanova christia ray allowed me to transition pretty Well.
AT villanova i did A summer bridge Program, at villanova
which allowed me to get exposed to a lot of
the courses and teachers and. Professor's there but the professional
Skills That christa ray taught me as well as the
academic the college prep courses really helped me get my
first step in.

Speaker 7 (08:49):
The, Door ryan i'm going to drop. Some Names pure is.
This season Name pure is going Out to washington. To
school he was one of our in turns us. Last
year he. Was revolutionary he is a true joy Is A.

Speaker 9 (09:05):
Jocelyn ronaldo they were all. Commerce kids so we've. Been
blessed we really have. Been blessed how do Students Choose?
Christo ray you were talking it's like a loan to moderate,
Income situation, but like how do they know you're? Out
there how did they go through the? Application process i'm
very curious about.

Speaker 7 (09:24):
All that it's a.

Speaker 4 (09:24):
Great question we have an admissions department and our admissions
Director Is. Robin scott she's. She's great she goes out
and she visits middle schools and she's out in the
community and ship and spreads the WORD. Of christa ray
and we share what. We do we were very clear
it's it's a rigorous. Academic program STUDENTS. At christa ray.
Work hard they work really hard, at school and they
work hard, at work and we tell families about that

(09:46):
and if they, show interest there's an application that they
can fill out and we we talk with them and
we make sure you know it's it's a good fit
and if and we really we actually have a few
spots open for next year for any parents that.

Speaker 8 (09:58):
Are interested oh, MY gosh i would do, for sure
especially if you're like six 't eight and, play basketball
because my husband is now the, basketball coach the head
basketball Coach At.

Speaker 7 (10:07):
Chris ray he spent.

Speaker 8 (10:08):
The last year as the phyz ed teacher there and
he's been through different school systems and his education has
been such a huge part of, his life from his
father to his mother to everybody else, in between and
the difference that he, talks about he says it's a
game changer that building and, the students the staff and everyone.
In there it's a difference because wherever you choose to

(10:31):
go to school really can defy your future and it
has been such a difference for him and to see
the growth in just.

Speaker 7 (10:38):
One year do you?

Speaker 8 (10:39):
PLAY basketball i. Do, not well if you, WOULD have
i would have.

Speaker 7 (10:42):
Made sure so how do people learn more about it and?

Speaker 8 (10:46):
Get INVOLVED because i, would say jalenre going to be a.
Huge success you're already on well on. Your way but
what is student life there as far as being involved in?
Extracurricular activities do they have the same things at others
scho schools.

Speaker 10 (11:00):
HAVE definitely i. Would say and beyond there's very, inclusive
school a lot of organizations to be a part of
SUCH As Nhs, student council a lot of creative item
club as well as different sports clubs and such as track, of.
Volleyball SOCCER so i Feel like cristira has a lot
of the opportunities as other schools. As well and even beyond.

Speaker 7 (11:21):
That experience, and, basketball yeah very.

Speaker 9 (11:25):
Holistic experience what would you say to families who might
hear this interview and ARE thinking i wonder if this
would be the right fit for my student as a,
former student a, recent alum what would you tell families
and the students' kids in?

Speaker 10 (11:39):
Those families it definitely would be a great experience and it.
Changes lives definitely.

that i was, teaching there and Now that i'm, the
principal even just seeing our students and their growth and

(13:00):
they take those professional skills they bring them into. The
classroom they, are dedicated hard.

Working students do you know how many kids are afraid
to pick up? The phone oh, my, GOSH yes i
mean this is. Really amazing they don't even know what.

Speaker 11 (13:14):
TO say i know some twenty year olds who don't
know how to pick up. A. Phone right the fact
that that even that simple life lesson that that is,
