hundred and sixty four. My name is Brando. For ten years,
I've been doing kind of that intro, slowly climbing to
these now six hundred episodes, and look at this. I
have all three of my listeners here today, So we

got Justin, Stephen, and Dan. I really appreciate it. And
this was not on purpose. So Steven is follows on Facebook,
Dan a lot through Twitter X and Justin through Instagram.
I didn't do that on purpose, but I like that
there's a reason for my social media and all different representations.

So you know what, I guess the way we're gonna
do this little round robin. We're gonna just kind of
talk about last ten years of Guns of Roses. Because
I started this with with Ian Scotto. May twenty third,
twenty sixteen, was the first episode Appetite for a Reunion.
Still friends with Scotto, but I wanted to talk to

the people for this episode and just talk about the guests.
We've liked stories that have come out of the podcast
and we'll talk about you guys and your G and
R fandom and what we want, what we've gotten from
Guns and Roses themselves over the past decade. So let's
go to to Justin first, if you don't mind, and

so I know you don't. You're the only one with
out of Guns of Ros's backgrounds. Still, that's my work shirt.
Dan's making time for us before work. I'm making time

kind of the chaos of the podcast. So Justin, where
are you zooming in from today?

I just want to say hello to all the Guns
n' Roses fans out there and Brando, thank you also
for having a song today for the tenth anniversary for
your show ten years man, that is awesome. I'm actually
here from northern Kentucky, closest to Cincinnati, Ohio, so yeah,
and I've been a long time listener and supporter of

the show and obviously of the band. I think we
would all agree that Guns n' Roses, if there was
ever a band that needed a real life movie. There's
never been a dull moment. So it's been a very
turbulent ride as a guns fan. And I think my
biggest favorite thing about being a Guns and Roses fan
is finding other Guns and Roses fans. So I'm glad

to be here today talk about G and R.

Right on, and you're looking like a axe a little bit.
The bandana you got, the glasses you have the I
guess that would be the print of the User Illusion
box set in the background where there did everybody buy that?

I did just buy the gn R Live era and
I almost wore the axle wig.

So here he's holding it. I thought you just had
like a dog with you. Stephen was talking about dogs almost.
Oh he's got a Chihuahua. And speaking of Stephen, I
love this. So you had your background with the looks
like the original User Illusion poster and the appetite is
that like a banner? Are they both banners or posters?

Nice? And where you're located if you don't mind me asking?

Marracuse, New York and a suburb named Maddie Dell inside

Okay, and hopefully I know you've mentioned it. Maybe we
can possibly meet up when we go to Saratoga. You
going to that show?

Oh my god, yes, Christmas present. I got those tickets.

I have a mission, you know, on the lawn seats.
But I will be there absolutely, just a gn R show,
number nine.

I believe, Okay, I think, and we'll get to I
think I'm number eleven. It's gonna be number eleven or
number twelve. And I only started in two thousand and two,
so that number.

Being living in upstate New York, that is good number
to have go to GNR shows and upstate New York.

That's true. And I've never been to that. Have you
been to that? Menu? My wife's seen Dave Matthews of
course there, and so.

She's looking forward to twenty twenty three.

Speaker 3 (04:11):
Okay, saw them there right on right, which was.

Speaker 6 (04:14):
The first show since the ninety one tour, and Axel
acknowledge it on stage a couple times, so he's like,
oh man, I remember this place, and he did a
tweet about it being a racetrack and stuff like that.

Speaker 5 (04:26):
So it was really cool.

Speaker 3 (04:28):
That wasn't. I feel like I'm getting it wrong. It
doesn't matter if it's ten years or not. I've never
been a I've never been the expert in guns and roses.
Information goes in and out. Where was getting the ring
the chant recorded? Was it there? I forget off the
top of my head. I could look that up, of course.

Speaker 6 (04:43):
Yes, I have the bootleg on VHS of that show
and the recording. He tells the crowd to chant it
and they record it, and yes, that is from Sarah
Tooga nineteen ninety, nineteen ninety one. I think it was
like spring or early summer before that fall when that
album was released, the album.

Speaker 3 (05:05):
Some information retains. It's amazing. I feel like I posted
yesterday as we were recording this. It was the thirtieth
anniversary of the Homer Palooza episode of The Simpsons. Yes,
if I ever did a podcast about it, wasn't Guns
of Roses Simpsons might have happened one time. Homer said, Uh,
every time we remember something, something else goes out of
his brain where it just gets replaced. That's kind of

how I feel sometimes. That's why I never got into
my whole radio career started. I wanted to be like
a sportscaster or a sports involved I just don't remember
stats like that. That's why I need Dan, who I
love interacting with on Twitter. Dan wwe who's a favorite

never got to interact because my that's where my wife's from.
I had been there when her sister, who just moved
to Colorado. Telling too much family information. I used to
go there, but I wanted to seal the gn R
sites I could, like I went outside the metro a
little things like that. There's nothing in Denver other than

the birth birthplace of Dizzy Read, which I would not.
I think that would be weird if I visited, like
where did? I didn't know that either until somebody when
I said that I'm going to Colorado? Any cool? I
think I said this on Twitter. At least do you.

Guys remember the the dunk that Scottie pippinhead on Patrick
Ewing and the Eastern Conference Finals?

Anybody both? And I know you're rep on the next
here today Brandon, they're in the Conference finals.

I see they had a big win. A it's hot
in my apartment, so I have a lot of like,
if I've been to wear a tank top, it's got
to be my old Charles Oakley jersey. So yeah, I
do remember that. I remember crying over the Charles Smith
miss lay up all that stuff. So they had a
big win last night over the over the Cavaliers. So
let me just enjoy in this moment. By the time

we put this out, I want this episode to come
out on Saturday, so it's officially ten years. Maybe they'll
lose a game in between then, but in this moment,
I'm okay. And that's what this podcast has been about,
capturing capturing moments. So Dan, thanks thanks for joining. I
know you don't have Guns of Roses background like the
other guys.

I've been a fan of him since ninety one. You
could be mine was the song that Willie I'm like,
I love him. I mean I dabbled in him, of
course in the early eighties, and you know they started
coming up, but I know eve hair thing, and then
when he got sort of his air normal and more

(08:05):
of a badass.

Speaker 7 (08:06):
I was all in and then it was okay.

Speaker 4 (08:09):
Then I went back, you know, I started you keep
in mind, and I went back started from the beginning.

Speaker 5 (08:14):
So same story.

Speaker 1 (08:17):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (08:18):
The NTV era that that that big coverence of the
User Allusion tour was where it really started for me.
I mean just before that. I was born in nineteen
eighty three, so I was it was like second or
third grade. I was wearing a Guns n' Roses Users
User Allusion t shirt, the one that was on the
drum kit with the shreded American flag that Matt Sorum
had on a drum kit. I'm wearing that in like

(08:40):
my third grade picture. And people used to know me
in school was the kid with the Guns and Roses shirts,
and that stuck with me all through high school to
this day. I'm still wearing guns and Roses shirts.

Speaker 3 (08:52):
I just like you guys. I just happened to have
be on a you know, a radio job and happened
to be do I didn't think anybody would listen. Told
you when I've said this story before. When Ian proposed
the podcast, idead me. You know, he worked at Serious Exam,
I work, I still work at iHeart. We met once
at the Hammerstein Ballroom to see Guns and Roses, and

(09:13):
I think that was what dj Ashbro's first tour and
we got introduced and kept in contact, is we should
do with Guns and Roses podcasts. I thought that was
the stupidest idea ever. What am I going to talk about
November rain for an hour? How how often could this happen?
And He's like, oh, it's all about interviews because I'm
always happy to talk to fans, and I had no idea.

(09:33):
That's one of the best parts of doing this podcast
has been the meeting fans and talking to fans just
like you guys.

Speaker 6 (09:40):
I know everybody would say this about, you know, their
favorite band, and like, you know, the fans being a
certain way every G and G and R show I've
ever been to, uh, just meet people and just talk naturally,
and it just there's a certain love there that I
just think is really unique. Already begins to you know,

(10:02):
like was already been said at ten years old. I
discovered MTV. I remember just starting to flip and flipping
through and I know I saw a Madonna video in
nineteen ninety one when I was ten, and then an
LL cool J video and then You Could Be Mine
came on.

Speaker 5 (10:15):
And just bam hit me.

Speaker 6 (10:18):
And I remember, just like jaw was open as a
ten year old kid, and I still remember to this day.

Speaker 5 (10:23):
Hasn't left me. I'm forty five years old.

Speaker 6 (10:25):
I still get the adrenaline, still get the goosebumps, still
excited the same way I was at ten years old.

Speaker 2 (10:31):
That's enough, same man, that you could be mined right
when the video hits and the drum roll and you
start seeing the T two clips, it takes you right
back to that time, right back to that era. And
like I say this to people because it's really kind
of difficult to kind of gauge this now to you
know how big artists are. But I tell people, I say,

(10:53):
there was a point in time when guns n' Roses
was the biggest thing in the world. And I mean
there was Michael Jackson and you said it, Stephen Madonna,
and everything was kind of put out through MTV and
what we saw in the music videos and there wasn't
a point. I think from around nineteen ninety I'd say
around ninety one, i'd say that you couldn't go an

(11:15):
hour watching MTV, which was the dominant radio play right,
Like there was no algorithms and there was no Spotify.

Speaker 1 (11:23):
Don't forget MTV.

Speaker 6 (11:24):
Don't forget MTV had Guns n' Roses weekends. Oh yeah,
non stop, you know. And I remember watch November Rain
premiered on Fox Network at like eight o'clock on a
Saturday night. I believe even before MTV premiered that video,
it was on the Fox network.

Speaker 4 (11:44):
It was a bigger ball actually, from what I remember,
that was the night that I think that that was
a Parish show when they did Parish Frass that same
evening and had Bigger's Ball. I thought premiered if maybe
that was on our end in Chicago, I don't know,
it's put on MTV in Chicago. I normally premiered it
that same evening with the concert.

Speaker 2 (12:06):
Yeah, the GNR TICS Paris weekend was such a big deal.
I remember popping a VHS tape if you guys remember
doing this, and sticking a blank tape into my VCR
and recording and they were playing Guns and Roses the
whole weekend, and there was you know, Aerosmith, A bunch
of people had showed up, Lenny Kravitz and I remember,

(12:26):
and this is kind of a humiliating, slightly embarrassing story,
but my family when I was raised, they would they
would not let me have Guns and Roses tapes because
they thought it was satanic and like evil And obviously
MTV showed a lot of promiscuous women on the show.
So I was only ten and eleven years old watching
this stuff, just loving it. And to this day, I
still have that video cassette and it cuts off right

(12:49):
at the Lenny Kravitz part and slash and I still
have it. So I just want to shout out to
my aunt Laura for ruining that tape for me.

Speaker 3 (12:58):
It's funny. My son, Baby brown Stone again, just turned three.
He found a VHS des set and just shooting my
wife's and he he said it was a toy. He's like,
how do I open this? You know, what is this? Again?
He's a three year old. We're explaining a lot to him,
but I what do I say? This is outdating technology?

(13:18):
I said that to a three year old, So yeah,
It's that's what the ability of having this podcast and
talking about Guns and Roses is. It's a time capsule,
and it's cool that this band does still exist, so
it's not just all going back in the past, like
if we were talking about the Beatles. I mean, yeah,
Paul McCartney still doing stuff ringo, but just like as

(13:39):
an entity, you know, the Beatles are obviously no longer.
Guns of Roses. Yeah, we could talk about lineups and
all that, but yeah, they have this time capsule and
just like from the same age as justin you know,
I'm forty two and define the bands like I'm like
Dan where I found it through November Rain and it's
interesting A comment I guess I saw on the Rocket

an episode that I just put out with Ah, and
it just said, like, it's so interesting to find somebody
who wasn't alive during appetite to make a channel out
of this. A. I was four years old, so I
was alive. Okay, I may have been into like the
mumpid babies and stuff, but still I was still really think.

I'm the oldest one in the group. I'm fifty two.

Yeah, you know the day over second, Yeah.

I think that's the beauty of again, of the podcast
and the ten years of doing it, is there are
people I know here. There's maybe not the best example,
but there's people older, there's people younger. Also, I need
to acknowledge there are women that listen to this podcast.
I need to acknowledge that it's not your bro. Let
me get shout out of Vicky overb On on Twitter,

who said that she might like to join, but she
said she's good. Some people, you know, radio shy. So
I appreciate all that and maybe is a good a
good thing to bounce off of. But she's I asked,
you know, what are your favorite guests over the ten years,
And I appreciate getting all because she mentioned McKagan brothers.
I've had Bruce and Matt on. Those are special. Those

were before I started shooting on video, so that it
would be cool if it was on video, but still opportunities.
I never thought that happened, So as people who actually
listen to this podcast blows my minds. Maybe some of
your favorite guests that have been on the on the
show and some thoughts on the on that.

I really should have I should have been a good

read that. That's one of the cool things. You know,
you think that there are times I just think with
the the podcast, I'm gonna run out of guests, I'm
not gonna be able to interview people. And there's just
like a random story that happens online. And this was

somebody who wrote a story about on on on Reddit.
I'm like trying to be my producer and type this
in at the same time, so I don't know, I
don't know. I'm not having a seizure while I'm talking.
Uh he And I just reached out to him on
on on Reddit just and then he happens to come
on and share this great story I don't want to
get his name. Why isn't it coming up in shorts

I have, I'm doing everything. You're giving me so much
compliments before there we go, Corey Corey, I said, Chris,
I got to see right Corey. So so yeah, you
can find that on my on my YouTube. He tells
a great story and I even put over he has
a He took part of his phone and he was watching.
He turned on his camera while they were doing sound

check in the bathroom and he had nothing to do
for like six hours, so he broke apart like one
of his key chains. He's using it as a fake drumstick,
rocking out. Just not that I can don't breaking into places.
But whatever it happened, it's a rock and story. There
are exceptions, I know. So Dan, I'm glad you mentioned
that one. That was a very cool one off episode. Yeah.

it to my son and I didn't even know I

I've had guests come on, you know, Drew McIntyre, Charlotte Flair,
see him punk, come on the podcast. I got to
get Kevin Owens.

Every time you see Kevin Owens out in public, he's
wearing a recent GNR Towards shirt.

Kevin Owens did his original promos at NXT wearing the
Guns and Roses shirt and they said they wouldn't allow
him to wear that in the promo shots, so he
flipped it around backwards and that's where the KO came from.

He just didn't know that.

Yeah, so he just he just took some duct tape
and put KO And when you see his original NXT photo,
it's an inverted, flipped over Guns and.

Roses t shirt. I actually did.

Some some pro wrestling training with shout out Cody Hawk,
fantastic trainer. He actually trained Dean Ambrose, John Moxley and
l A night and I was wearing my Yeah, I
was wearing my GNR. I have an old cut up
appetite shirt, but I would wear that in practice pretty

much every day.

Well that's cool. Yeah, I didn't know that. I had
learned later on that Kevin Owens used better as an
intro music in the indies, which is good, incredible to
find that out because he's somebody. You know, that's one
of the beauty of talking about this podcast and you
see it on like when I post things online that
you all, all three of you comment and you talk

about different lineups, whether it's the original lineup and that's
the one that included Tracy in there. So if some
people like to say just they didn't think that it
was just Stephen bless you. I don't know if you
heard that. I'm sorry. I needed to be a good
husband and say good bless you with my wife. Uh,
it's with with Tracy and Ole and Rob Gardner or
people became fans through Chinese democracy, so I think all

of that needs to be We all have our opinions
and favorites, but I think why we come here or
what I tried to build. I don't want to shame
anybody for having an opinion. I don't. I don't care
about that. I know again, Dan, you really don't love
Sorry you don't like Izzy, and that's fine. I'm not

all the drugs and everything.

Well, keep doing what you're doing and drive behind them
with through your motorcycle.

It sucks, man, I think he I think he took
the band with him Dan. Unfortunately, a lot of the
songwriting and things I think suffered.

And I agree with you.

I really wish that is you would have just stuck
with the band. It was actually so it's a little
uncomfortable sometimes when I go back and I see I
know there was a show where Axel was like talking
about is he well you know the stories about when
when as He came back to replace Gilby Clark there
when he had that accident and they were kind of
pulling his uh his mic out and turning his guitar down,

and it seemed like nobody wanted him around. But it's
very kind of strange as I have this really interesting clip.
I think it's from Madrid, Spain. It's like a six
minute documentary of Chinese democracy and when you see it,
it's the show that and it might not be in Madrid.
I might have got that wrong, but it's where Iusy
rejoined the band briefly, if you guys recall in two

thousand and six, and you can see he's kind of
walking up to Axel to say what's up and he's,
you know, warming up there, getting ready to walk on stage,
and Axel says, what's up is but he just totally
blows him off like he wants nothing to do with him. So, uh,
it just sucks man that that happened. I kind of
feel like he was definitely the Keith Richards of the band.

Speaker 4 (22:42):
And I don't know, you guys obviously heard that thing
where he told he thought always throws it's he under
the bus always when he did that stupid radio show
with I hate Eddie Trump too.

Speaker 7 (22:52):
I don't like him at all, but.

Speaker 5 (22:55):
He I loved that episode.

I just the end of the bus about to draw
and then the same thing with you could be mine
with the whole thing about how it is about.

Is he doing blow? How do you want to be
friends with somebody who keeps on? And I'm sticky up
Forzzy here what am I doing? But it seems like
Axle is.

Always throwing you is he under the bus when he
has something negative to say about is He?

It's strange because because is he is would be technically
his longest running friendship, right going back to Lafayette.

Yeah, yeah, I mean the more I read about it, it
seems like they knew each other in Lafayette, but they
kind of reunited again in la I think that there's
so many variables, and I never thought that we would
still need to We need to thaw out and then
have these conversations all these years.

We need a movie. We need a movie.

But if you ask Slash and forgive me, it's it

I don't know if it was an awkward part. If

years in things still happen. But these are the conversations

people still happen. You mentioned to Justin that people think
the band died when Izzy left, but there are others.
You know, we wouldn't have certain songs if it was

my eyes to how many people made this band work
