Well, it's what's cool is because I'm taking him. He's
already seen Paul McCartney. We're going to see Guns and
Roses this summer, which we'll get into. But have a
long history of concerts, so since you can see me,
we can see each other. Little show and tell I
have a ticket stole from two thousand and three. Yeah, yeah,

So any any fond memories of that tour, that show
before we get into.
Speaker 1 (01:07):
The that that first show at Jones beach. I'm very
sure is that one Paul's work? Things that didn't come
through right? And I flew out and he didn't get
there until after the sound check and the roadie sound
check for Paul, and then he was playing away and
(01:28):
then he started doing drum fills and stay went right.
Speaker 2 (01:33):
I love that.
Speaker 1 (01:34):
Yeah, it didn't really sound much different from what it
does now, you know.
Speaker 2 (01:38):
Yeah, it was interesting because, yeah, it was a great
show with the sex Pistols and the drop Kick Murphy's,
but sadly the half the venue was empty and he
was just incredible.
Speaker 1 (01:49):
There you go. I can't do much about that. It
was a long way out of town. And I always like,
not long after that, we did two nights is it
Rose Ballroom? And we was playing away is a memory.
Then one side of the stage was the mixer and
on the other side of the stage where I was,
(02:11):
there was supposed to be nobody. And we did one
song and I thought, there's somebody behind the pa in
the darkness, and I thought, there's supposed to be nobody.
And we did another song and there was somebody there
and look, do you know? It was number them okay,
who were made of Steve.
Speaker 2 (02:33):
Nice so random guitar. I mean, the stories you have
are endless. I mean I was actually just watching your
your documentary that they came out last year. Yeah, the
I was a teenage sex pistol and before we get
into the new tour and someone because they don't have
a limited amount of time with you. But I thought
was so funny was at the beginning what Steve Jones said,
(02:55):
The story has been told so many times, there's nothing
else left to say. But obviously you're viewpoint hasn't been said.
What was the most important thing for you to get
across in your autobiography and in the documentary.
Speaker 1 (03:06):
Before I kind of think that over the years I
had been not now, but I had been sort of
skirted over a little bit, and I used to have
a chip on my shoulder about it. And I'm sure
at one stage I was always worried that people would
read the songwriting credits and think that Mattlock was said
Visius his real name, you know. So that's why I
(03:29):
wrote the book. And I mean people who know, no,
but everybody knows, and people who care care, and people
don't always care, but it was important to me and
I found it very cathartic to get that out of
my system. And I think if I had done that,
I doubt if I would have done the Turbu. When
we reformed in ninety six, which was kind of cool.
(03:50):
We did a big world turbe. We probably did ninety
gigs around the world. But you know, it kind of
helped cement and bonds with at least the musicians in
the band, and he got something in common to be celebrated.
The three of us got something in common that nobody
(04:12):
in the world does when we're getting around plugging and
stuff like with the sex pistols. So that's not something
to be denegrated, and so we're here to celebrate it.
But nobody's really saying it over John these days for
quite a long while. And we've wrapped in this guy,
Frank Carter, who is fantastic and he plays it just right.
(04:32):
He's not trying to be John, he's not trying to
intrude on it. He plays tribute in a good way,
and it's exciting. He seems great. He's got a lot
of youthful compared to us energy, and it just works.
Speaker 2 (04:47):
You know, so great getting great reviews and I'm glad
you guys have relaunched this tour because Steve was going
through some health stuff and.
Speaker 1 (04:55):
You're gonna he broke his wrists.
Speaker 2 (04:57):
Yeah, I mean I did to put it lately. I mean,
so he's he's good to go, so I'll be able
to hopefully see you in Brooklyn.
Speaker 1 (05:04):
We did. We've done one show so far about a
fortnight ago, two weeks ago in Spain and stay splaying great.
You know, we've reasked a bit and to react because
we know what we're do. We're not trying to rewrite
kind of Behamian rhapsody. Do you know what I'd really
like to do is do something that people would never

expected a million years, except I'm probably letting the cut
out about now the sex Pristols rock opera Sydney. Who
would expect that?
Speaker 2 (05:38):
Hey, I'm all for it, and so let me let me.

Ask too long, your suffocate.

I won't don't worry, especially since I have to finish
this interview and they just wouldn't be good radio there
with two baits obviously going out on the headlining tour.
And I mentioned earlier and you could see in my
background that the guns and Roses themed podcast opened up
some shows for Guns and Roses.

Last year, the last summer a couple yeah with.
Speaker 2 (06:05):
Frank and my friends who gone just said like, what
a great time. I would love to have seen it
this year. Who I'm going to see is a public enemy,
but that's another story. Uh So, if you can talk
about because you go back with some of the GNR
guys with with Doc McKagan your fellow basis, and maybe
talk about some of your g and R ties and
maybe your experience on the tour.
Speaker 1 (06:24):
If you're in bands and you tend to gravitate and
mate people who are in you know, we were a
bit like minded and the kind of stuff that they play,
and you end up being friends with them and you
have different kind of sort of relationships. I remember, I
don't know, maybe ten to twelve years ago, I was
(06:44):
in New York and Buffle was playing with his band
Velvet Revolver. He said, you want to get up and
do a number, and I went, yeah, what are you
playing in the middle of Times Square? So hits some
pictures of me with Duff in the middle of Times Square.
We remember Jimmy from Trash and Vaudevor. He was a
great guy, but he's sort of dancing aside of the

stage with his shirt off and he had a big
tatto in his back said I Need More, which is
the title of an Iggy pop song which I co
wrote with Eggy Pup. So all these things kind of
sort of fit together, and I'm quite chuffed. Where please
there's Chafters and English Road, but where I live there's
loads of musicians I bump into, like Chrissy ian Is
(07:26):
around the corner and Paul Weller, And there was a
big charity gig at the weekend. A friend of ours
organizes this thing, Artists for Gaza where you believe in
that or not, But sadly his son got murdered and
he did it as true to him. Everybody came out
and would work with the guys from Madness and Jerry
Dammers from from the Specials and Kevin Rodan from Dexis

mid Runners. You know, everybody kind of works together. That's
what I like about the music business is that on
a certain level, people are cool and they help you.
You have out.

You know what, all around the world, I bet there's millions,
not millions, but thousands of tape. There's some good stuff
on it where different combinations and musicians have got together,
not for money, but for the love to rather go
doing something. You know, I got some tracks, so I've
never really quite finished. But Clemberg was a good friend

of mine. He used to stay with me in London
and I just stay and we went in the share
it and put some room tracks down. I've got Clemberg
drumming on some of my stuff that I've got turned
into songs and kind of tribute now, but loads of
people have got like that and everybody just does it
to something. You know.
Speaker 2 (08:39):
I love that, and because I know I only have
a few seconds left, but yeah, in the dark, I
see it couldn't help. But think about Lake Lemburg and
and Wayne Cramer, who were in there talking about you
and talking about that scene. So if you remiss about Rips, well.

I've done kind of quite forever because I think it's
both and Wayne's last interviews. Okay, you know.

Well, well it was a privilege to interview you. I
hope we get to do this again because it's just
endless the stories that you have. And one last thing,
I'm so jealous of your head of hair. You have, Like,
if anything, you should be the most proud of your
head of hair more than just the music. I mean,
it's just I wish I aged like you like it's
just beautiful head. I don't know if that's a weird

thing to say, but I'm forty two. It's my hair's gone.
