(00:25):
and your exploration.
Speaker 2 (00:27):
Murr, good morning. How are you doing today? Hi, good morning, buddy.
Speaker 3 (00:30):
How are you?
Speaker 1 (00:31):
Very excited because I talked with you a few years back,
and it was one of those situations where we kind
of talked on this, and you said, I can't talk
about it yet, but we will.
Speaker 2 (00:38):
And my God, that's how fast time flies, dude.
Speaker 4 (00:44):
That's wild, man. We talked about Don't Move?
Speaker 1 (00:47):
Well, what happened was I said, what else are you
doing at this time? And you kind of, you know,
you hemmed and you hawed and you said, I got
a project, but I can't talk about it right now.
Speaker 2 (00:56):
So I'm going, I know what you're up to.
Speaker 1 (00:59):
But now that it's here and I've experienced this movie,
first of all, there's two huge questions I got to
ask you. First of all, what's going on in this
movie without spoiling it? The things that are left on
the ground remind me so much of these fiber optic
droids or these drones that are over there in Ukraine
right now. When I saw that scene, I went, oh
(01:20):
my God, he is absolutely spot on with something that's
taking place in our own lives right now with those
things on the ground.
Speaker 4 (01:26):
I got to be honest. I have no idea what
you're talking about.
Speaker 3 (01:32):
Like I understand the drone thing in the UK, but
how does that connect to don't move?
Speaker 4 (01:36):
What are you talking about?
Speaker 2 (01:37):
The spider webs on the ground. the spider webs.
Speaker 3 (01:42):
Sure.
Speaker 4 (01:43):
But how does that connect?
Speaker 2 (01:44):
It was exactly where it took me.
Speaker 1 (01:46):
And so what I did was I thought, Oh my God,
this is one of those situations where, you know, where,
where reality becomes a storyline, which freaked me out even
more because it was like, Oh my God, this guy
is always writing about things that we can relate with.
Speaker 4 (02:00):
Okay.
Speaker 3 (02:00):
So are you, are you now afraid that you might
wander accidentally into a woods or where prehistoric arachnid lives
and can sense your movement by vibration, just like you're
now afraid of drones flying overhead.
Speaker 1 (02:12):
Well, obviously you've been to my forest and why I
don't go out there at night. And I'll tell you what,
and most of your movie is filmed at night, which
even made it freakier for me because I am afraid
of my forest.
Speaker 4 (02:23):
No, I... What is the nearest forest to you? I'll
look it up. I'll see if there's any giant arachnids that.
Speaker 1 (02:31):
Are going to come to me. Well, I'm here in Carolina.
So this is tree country USA. So we are surrounded
by trees all the time. But I did like this
movie in the way that your pacing is fabulous. And
this is every bit the reason why Steven Spielberg said
that today's writers and movie makers are tomorrow's greatest directors
and writers. And the way that you pace things out
(02:51):
is exactly what I wanted.
Speaker 4 (02:54):
Oh, that's awesome.
Speaker 3 (02:55):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (02:55):
It's the, uh, the movie, the movies, uh, it's called
don't move it.
Speaker 3 (02:58):
Uh, it's about a, uh, church group from Chicago that
goes on their annual summer camping trip to the Ozark
wilderness and.
Speaker 4 (03:05):
They wander into the wrong woods.
Speaker 3 (03:06):
Basically they make a wrong turn and they touch on a,
a pristine area of wilderness that humanity has not yet
developed in any way. And there's this prehistoric kind of
creature that can hunt them by the vibration in the forest. Um,
so it is a, uh, the movie starts pretty terrifyingly
when our lead character kind of loses her family and
(03:28):
in this very preventable tragedy. And then she's, then the
movie gets funny because the cast is Rob Riggles in it.
Speaker 4 (03:38):
Tom Cavanaugh's in it. They're so funny, charming.
Speaker 3 (03:41):
And, but then the movie, when the horror hits again,
then it goes all in and the pace is relentless
from that point forward.
Speaker 4 (03:48):
But the cast is awesome, too. We got the rapper
Russ in his debut movie.
Speaker 3 (03:54):
Lindsay Fonseca from every Hallmark movie you've ever seen is
so charming and likable. And you got T-Pain and Q's
in the movie from Impractical Jokers. We worked hard on
that kind of pacing and that energy. It's always keeping
your attention, for sure.
Speaker 1 (04:09):
Please do not move. There is more with James Murr
Murray coming up next. The name of the movie, Don't Move,
but do see it in theaters opening weekend. Give this
man some love and support. It's called Don't Move. We
are back with James Murr Murray. You have some music
inside this soundtrack that really, and I didn't get the
(04:31):
chance to ask Russ if he was part of it,
so I'm going to ask you. Did he record any
of that music? Because you've got a tune right in
the center of this movie. I'm going, holy crap, if
they don't release that as a single, they're totally missing out.
Speaker 3 (04:43):
So not only are there a few Russ songs in
the movie, but he recorded an original song in the
movie that you can only hear by going to see
the movie.
Speaker 2 (04:53):
And it's awesome.
Speaker 4 (04:54):
It is so good. He's so talented, you know. But yeah.
And we've got, of course, Tiffany. I think we're alone
now in the movie. We want to figure songs of
all time.
Speaker 3 (05:03):
And the composer of the movie was really fantastic. Totally
got the style of it. Oh, yeah.
Speaker 1 (05:07):
To see Russ doing the impersonation of the song and
to basically be doing like karaoke. I laughed so loud,
but it really brought me in as a viewer and said,
my God, I'm really becoming a part of this circle.
Speaker 4 (05:19):
Oh, cool, man. That's great. Yeah, yeah. It's got an
original Russ song in the movie. It's pretty cool.
Speaker 1 (05:23):
Could this have easily gone into a graphic novel or
did it start off as that kind of a creative
process for you before it became the movie?
Speaker 4 (05:31):
Well, you know, it's an interesting question.
Speaker 3 (05:34):
Maybe. I am working on a graphic novel now for
my first book, Awakened, that came out years and years ago.
And I could see this developing into that. But it's
based on the book Don't Move, which we wrote five years,
six years ago now. And it did really well and
was a bestseller. And it was a pretty easy adaptation
into a screenplay. And then the variable that makes the
(05:58):
movie so good is the cast is so good. And
the director of the movies, a buddy of ours, McLean Nelson,
comes from a rom-com background. Oh, yeah. Which I do
not think has any kind of correlation to horror. But
what it did, he's made 50 movies that are rom-coms.
His expertise in that has actually given Don't Move, the movie,
(06:19):
so much more heart than the book has. You care
about these people. And also, they make good decisions. And
sometimes it works out for them and sometimes it doesn't.
You know, there's no dumb horror decisions made. Like, they're
all acting rationally and thinking through problems, and sometimes it
works out, but sometimes it doesn't.
Speaker 1 (06:36):
Is there going to be a director's cut? Because I
know that Rob Riggle didn't deliver those lines perfectly. He
loves to have so much fun.
Speaker 4 (06:44):
Some of my favorite lines in the movie are improvised
from Riggle. No joke.
Speaker 3 (06:49):
And when I got into a good rhythm on set where...
I'd be watching on the side and I'd go up
to Riddle, whisper in his ear, but I wouldn't tell
anyone else. And the next take, he'd do the line
I suggested. And I just watched the crew and the
director McLean cracking up laughing. And many times those got
into the cut because they're just improvised wild lines, you know?
Speaker 1 (07:09):
Well, and the thing about it is, though, this could
be that one movie that he does where he plays
kind of a, you know, yes, it is fun, but
he also plays a serious role. And I got to
see a different side of him. And I kept going,
of course, Murr did that because Murr is going to
pull out different personalities out of everybody he works with.
Speaker 3 (07:24):
Yeah, I mean, the most interesting for me, I mean,
Riggle playing straight scenes. There's a couple of scenes where
it gets very serious. It's wild. Because you take him
seriously as a result when you see that total shit.
And then even T-Pain has never been in a horror movie,
never played a serious character ever. He's always cast as
his real personality. He's just a very charming, likable guy.
(07:44):
And to cast him off type to play a very
serious kind of intense character while he still has this
very likable face and charisma, it just works in the
movie as a result, you know? I love horror that
does that kind of stuff, you know?
Speaker 1 (07:58):
Well, I love the idea that the campground itself is
not your typical, I'm taking my RV out to a campground,
that you really put them out there in the wilderness,
which then to me added to the mystery and to
the fear of what was going on. So you picked
the right place for them to be camping.
Speaker 4 (08:13):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (08:13):
I mean, it really is kind of beautiful country out
there and these kind of rivers and valleys and mountains.
It's very much like North and South Carolina, you know,
a similar kind of like just isn't, it's untouched. It's just,
hundreds of miles where there's no humanity you know.
Speaker 1 (08:32):
Wow and in that water the second they go into
that water inside my mind i went they have to
be freezing first of all it's at night and it's
in the forest and lord knows i've been in a
forest enough to know that when they got out of
that water they must have been shaking like it was
52 below.
Speaker 3 (08:46):
You know the uh the whole climax of the movie
ends with uh them in the water and uh just
like in the book and uh we were filming in
kansas city And it was so interesting. During the day,
it was 90 degrees out. At night, it was dropping to.
Speaker 4 (09:01):
The high 40s.
Speaker 2 (09:02):
Oh, my God.
Speaker 4 (09:03):
So that water was freezing. We got one take.
Speaker 3 (09:06):
One take only.
Speaker 4 (09:07):
And that is the take that's in the movie.
Speaker 1 (09:08):
But see, that's what you're all about. I mean, even
with Impractical Jokers, I mean, you guys are all about that.
Get into the moment of right now. Do what you
got to do. We'll worry about splicing later on.
Speaker 3 (09:17):
I mean, dude, I don't know if you saw what
they did to me last week. It'll air on TV
in January. But I stepped foot off the top of
the Empire State Building. dangling from a rope and i
was dressed as a human mop and i used my
own body to clean the outside glass of the empire
state building so yeah that was they called it the
uh miracle on 34th street.
Speaker 1 (09:39):
Now where can people go to find out more about
don't move because i want them to check this out
and experience it on the big screen.
Speaker 3 (09:46):
You know, it's a great date night horror film. It's
not creepy crawly. It's not too gory. You're going to
love it. It's just great mainstream horror. It's go to
don't move movie dot com. And you can see the
map there. Put your zip code in and see all
the theaters it's playing in. in. We just announced yesterday
that AMC picked up the movie as well. So overnight
we just added a hundred more cities and, uh, and, um,
(10:07):
hoping that regal comes on board as well. So you
can see where the movie's playing near you. Uh, and
for an indie movie like us, it's all that first
opening weekend, you know, how much we just like the
Joker's movie. That'll determine how much we expand. So if
you have the means and love a great date on horror,
go to don't.
